• Bind list from FormView to model in ASP.net webforms

  For a large fillin form I use the asp.net FormView for the magic databinding to my model. In this model I've a property called Rides (shown below), which exposes a list, which I obviously not want to be replaced entirely. So I made it readonly. However, this way I can't use the databinding features anymore. • Get CLSID by PIA interface Type

  How can I get the CLSID for a given interface within a Primary Interop Assembly? Here's what I'm talking about: // The c# compiler does some interesting magic. // The following code ... var app = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application(); // ... is compiled like so (disassembled with Reflector): var app =((Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application) Activator.CreateInstance(Type.GetTypeFromCLSID(new Guid("0006F03A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046")))); Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application is an interface, and therefore it cannot be instantiated directly. What's interesting here is that c# lets you treat these COM interfaces as if there where classes that you can instantiate with the new keyword. What I want to know is, given the System.Type for a given interface, how can I get the CLSID? Note: I ultimately want to be able to create an instance given the interface's System.Type - I don't really care how. I'm assuming here that the easiest way to do this would be to get CLSID given the Type, just as the c# compiler does.

• AJAX Partial page update problem when displaying a control

  Hello! I have an interesting problem when using partial page update in asp.net with scriptmanager and a update panel. My scenario looks like this: I'm using the tab control from the ajax toolkit. I also implemented this control using lazy loading, so that when the page is loaded only the current tab gets loaded all the other tabs don't get rendered, because Im using an UpdatePanel (on a .ascx control) on each of these tabs and when a tab gets selected the updatepanel makes a async postback to load the content for a selected tab. On one of my tabs Im using a combobox control from obout.com, and it doesn't work. Now I know why it doesn't work. It doesn't work because the control is shown via a partial page refresh, but to correctly display the control it has to do some "magic" that is - register some .css and .js includes on the page (in the head I guess)....but because I load this control via async page refresh...it can't do these stuff. What kind of workarround do you suggest? Thanks!

• Disable Return key outside textareas on a Asp.Net web page (containing ajax code)

  Hi, I have an Asp.Net web page, having the common Asp.Net form. The outer "border" of the page (i.e. main menu, header, ...) is build using normal Asp.Net code using a master page. The content of that page uses jQuery to display dynamic forms and to send data to the server. If I push the return key on that page, I jump to a (more or less) random page - which is not what the user expects. ;-) There are some text areas and the user must be able to enter line breaks. Otherwise it would be fine to disable the return key completely. Any bullet proof way to do that? I found some solutions on the web, which capture the keypress event and ignore \x13, but that does not really work. It works as long as the page has just loaded, but as soon as I have clicked on some elements, the return key behaves as usuall. Any hint would be really appreciated! Achim

• Customize VisualStudio syntax highlighting even more

  Hi everybody, I am wondering if it is possible to set VisualStudio IDE so it highlights private/protected/public variables of the class differently as well as change formatting on locals (i.e. variables that are either passed in or declared inside a function, like this). I did not find any such options in the normal Fonts and Colors menu of VS. Also a search on SO reveals that (at least as of 2 years ago) only add-ons provide such features. But is there a way to manually edit some file? Just because we don't get a nice UI to edit, doesn't mean underlying framework automatically doesn't support it. I mean add-ons have to plug into something to do their magic in the editor. Any insights into this issue? Thanks!

• Haskell's type system treats a numerical value as function?

  After playing around with haskell a bit I stumbled over this function: Prelude Data.Maclaurin> :t ((+) . ($) . (+)) ((+) . ($) . (+)) :: (Num a) => a -> (a -> a) -> a -> a (Data.Maclaurin is exported by the package vector-space.) So it takes a Num, a function, another Num and ultimately returns a Num. What magic makes the following work? Prelude Data.Maclaurin> ((+) . ($) . (+)) 1 2 3 6 2 is obviously not a function (a-a) or did I miss out on something?

• Cannot connect on TFS 2012 server through SSL with invalid certificate

  I saw the problem on some forums and even here, but not as specific as mine. So here's the thing, So I've configured a TFS 2012 server, on one of my personnel server at home, and now, I'm trying to make it available through the internet, with the help of apache2 on a different UNIX based, physical server. The thing is working perfectly, I don't have any problem accessing the address https://tfs.something.com/tfs through my browser. The address can be pinged and I do have access to the TFS control panel through it. How does it work? Well, with apache2 you can set a virtual host and set up the ProxyPass and ProxyPassReserver setting, so the traffic can externally comes from a secure SSL connection, through a specified domain or sub-domain, but it can be locally redirect on a clear http session on a different port. This is my current setup. As I already said, I can access the web interface, but when I'm trying to connect with Visual Studio 2012, it can't be done. Here's the error I receive: http://i.imgur.com/TLQIn.png The technical information tells me: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. My SSL certificate is invalid and was automatically generated on my UNIX server. Even if I try to add it in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities either on my TFS server or on my local workstation, it doesn't work. I still receive the same error. Is there's a way to completely ignore certificate validation? If not, what's have I done? I mean, I've added the certificate in the trusted root certificates, it should works as mentioned on some forums... If you need more information, please ask me, I'll be pleased to provide you more. • [Cocoa] NSTableView bound to NSArrayController

  Within Interface Builder I've got an NSTableView with two columns bound to a vanilla NSArrayController. The NSArrayController has its Content Array bound to an NSMutableArray in my application delegate. I've used further bindings to setup the addition and removal of rows via bindings (magic!). The issue I'm running into now is that I'd like to grab the currently selected NSTableView row and use its index to look-up the object stored in my NSArrayControllers associated array. The problem I'm running into is trying to access the NSTableView. Within my application delegate, using the following code will cause my application to crash: NSLog(@"%@", [timersTableView selectedRow]); Similarly, this also causes my application to crash: NSLog(@"%@", [timersController selectionIndex]); Given the simplicity of the code above, I must be doing something fundamentally wrong?

• Debugging asp.net with firefox and visual studio.net - very slow compared to IE

  Debugging asp.net websites/web projects in visual studio.net 2005 with Firefox is loads slower than using IE. I've read something somewhere that there is a way of fixing this but i can't for the life of me find it again. Does anyone know what i'm on about and can point me in the right direction please? I prefer Firefox for debugging (firebug etc) hitting F5 when debugging with IE the browser launches really quickly and clicking around my web application is almost instant and when a breakpont is hit i get to my code straight away with no delays. hitting F5 when debugging with FireFox the browser launches really slowly (ok i have plugins that slow FF loading) but clicking around my web application is really really slow and when a breakpoint is hit it takes ages to break into code. i swear i've read something somewhere that there is a setting in Firefox (about:config maybe?) that when changed to some magic setting sorts all this out.

• MagicLibrary.dll 32bit convert for 64bit

  Hi Guys, I recently received an email about a guy who like to make my software compatible with 64Bit Windows 7 OS. I have 1 single problem though .. I have followed a steps regarding on compiling VS Solution/Project for 64bit. But when I start to to compile the solution for 64bit, this "Crownwood.Magic.Forms" (MagicLibrary.dll) doesn't work anymore. This is the compilation error message "Error 6 The type or namespace name 'Crownwood' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)" Please don't tell me I did not referenced the MagicLibrary.dll It's a bit of confusing because the MagicLibrary.dll is already in my reference list. I also remove and add it back. There was this CorFlags.exe but am not sure how to convert it to 64bit. "CorFlags MagicLibrary.dll /32BIT- /Force" did not work.. :( Please help. Thanks in advance - Jayson

• Migrating to CF9: trouble getting JRun working with SSL

  I have a client on MX7 who wants to migrate to CF9. I have a dev environment for them on my WinXP machine where I've configured MX7 to run with JRun's built-in web server. I've had that working for a long time with both regular and SSL connections. I installed CF9 yesterday side-by-side with the existing MX7 install to start testing. The install was smooth and detected MX7, adjusted CF9's port numbers for no conflict, etc. Testing started well: MX7 over regular and SSL still worked and CF9 worked over regular HTTP. But I can't get CF9 to work with SSL. I installed a new certificate with keytool, FireFox (v3.6) complained about it being unsigned, I added it to the exception list, and now I get this: Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to localhost:9101. Peer reports it experienced an internal error. (Error code: ssl_error_internal_error_alert) I've been Googling that in all variations but can't find much help to get past this. I don't see any info in any log files either. • Fastest way to do mass update

  Let’s say you have a table with about 5 million records and a nvarchar(max) column populated with large text data. You want to set this column to NULL if SomeOtherColumn = 1 in fastest possible way. The brute force UPDATE does not work very well here because it will create large implicit transaction and take forever. Doing updates in small batches of 50K records at a time works but it’s still taking 47 hrs to complete on beefy 32 core/64GB server. Is there any way to do this update faster? Are there any magic query hints/table options that scarifies something else (like concurrency) in exchange of speed? NOTE: Creating temp table or temp column is not an option because this nvarchar(max) column involves lots of data and so consumes lots of space!

• Create a special folder within an outlook PST file

  Original question I have two problems caused by missing special folders. I added a second email address for which Outlook created a new PST file with an Inbox to which emails are successfully imported. But there is no Deleted Items folder. If I attempt to delete an unwanted email it is struck out. If move an email to a different PST file it is copied. I created a new PST file using Data File Management. This PST file has no Drafts folder. This is not important but I fail to see why I cannot have Drafts folder if I want. Any suggestions for solving these problems, particularly the first, gratefully received. Update Thanks to Ramhound and Dave Rook for their helpful responses to my original question. I assumed the problem of not have a Drafts folder in an Archive PST file and not having a Deleted Items folder associated with an Inbox were part of the same problem or I would not have mentioned the Drafts folder issue since I have an easy work-around. Perhaps my question should have been: How to I load emails from an IMAP account and be able to delete the spam?

• How to create an SaaS Application?

  I don't know how else to say it so I'm just going to explain my ideal scenario and hopefully you can explain to me how to implement it... I'm creating an application with the Zend Framework that will be hosted with DreamHost. The application will be hosted on its own domain (i.e. example-app.com). Basically, a user should be able to sign up, get their own domain sampleuser.example-app.com or example-app.com/sampleuser which points to, what looks like their own instance of the app, which is really a single instance serving up different content based on the url. Eventually, I want my users to be able to create their own domain (like foobar.com) that points to sampleuser.example-app.com, such that visitors to foobar.com don't notice that the site is really being served up from example-app.com. I don't know how to do most of that stuff. How does this process work? Do I need to do some funky stuff with Apache or can this be done with a third party host, like DreamHost? Update: Thanks for the advice! I've decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my hosting plan to utilize wildcard subdomains. It's cheaper than I was expecting! I also found out about domain reseller programs, like opensrs.com, that have their own API. I think using one of these APIs will be the solution to my domain registration issue.

• Unicode characters in URLs

  In 2010, would you serve URLs containing UTF-8 characters in a large web portal? Unicode characters are forbidden as per the RFC on URLs (see here). They would have to be percent encoded to be standards compliant. My main point, though, is serving the unencoded characters for the sole purpose of having nice-looking URLs, so percent encoding is out. All major browsers seem to be parsing those URLs okay no matter what the RFC says. My general impression, though, is that it gets very shaky when leaving the domain of web browsers: URLs getting copy+pasted into text files, E-Mails, even Web sites with a different encoding HTTP Client libraries Exotic browsers, RSS readers Is my impression correct that trouble is to be expected here, and thus it's not a practical solution (yet) if you're serving a non-technical audience and it's important that all your links work properly even if quoted and passed on? Is there some magic way of serving nice-looking URLs in HTML http://www.example.com/düsseldorf?neighbourhood=Lörick that can be copy+pasted with the special characters intact, but work correctly when re-used in older clients?

What I need is something that: Creates a database table from a simple type description (int, float, datetime etc) Takes a dictionary object and inserts it into the database (including handling datetime objects!) If possible: Can handle basic references, so the dictionary can reference other tables I would prefer something that doesn't do a lot of magic.   I looked under the hood for EnumSet.allOf and it looks very efficient, especially for enums with less than 64 values. Basically all sets share the single array of all possible enum values and the only other piece of information is a bitmask which in case of allOf is set in one swoop. On the other hand Enum.values() seems to be a bit of black magic. Moreover it returns an array, not a collection, so in many cases it must be decorated with Arrays.asList( ) to be usable in any place that expects collection. So, should EnumSet.allOf be more preferable to Enum.values? More specifically, which form of for iterator should be used: for ( final MyEnum val: MyEnum.values( ) ); or for ( final MyEnum val: EnumSet.allOf( MyEnum.values ) );

  Hi I have a UITableViewController where I added a "editButtonItem" in the navigation bar : self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = self.editButtonItem; No magic here, but I try to define the color (background and foreground/textcolor) of this button. I read in the Apple forum somewhere that the button changes the color if I change the navigationbar to the same color, well despite the fact that I do not get this to work either (for testing) I do not want to touch the navigationbr itself, just the button. • Paypal adaptive payment API call with C# .NET? Preferably with WebServices

  Okay I might be entirely off track now but here goes: Our "webshop" offers two functions, buying a specific product and selling it back to us. Back-end handles if the user can sell or not. I've decided to use Paypal's adaptive payments for this one as it seems the way to go doing these kinds of transactions. I've never implemented any kind of shop so I'm totally green with this one. I only recently learned ASP.NET and have mainly developed games before moving to this kind of development. HTTP is still some level of magic to me hehe.. I might be confused but I think paypal offers a webservice with their adaptive payment API. My humble request: A nice soul who wants to share an example of implementing an adaptive payment API call with C# .NET. If they don't offer it as a webservice I'll probably find it as a custom .dll or something. Any tips and examples are highly appreciated! Thanks for reading

• Scipy sparse... arrays?

  Hey, folks. So, I'm doing some Kmeans classification using numpy arrays that are quite sparse-- lots and lots of zeroes. I figured that I'd use scipy's 'sparse' package to reduce the storage overhead, but I'm a little confused about how to create arrays, not matrices. I've gone through this tutorial on how to create sparse matrices: http://www.scipy.org/SciPy_Tutorial#head-c60163f2fd2bab79edd94be43682414f18b90df7 To mimic an array, I just create a 1xN matrix, but as you may guess, Asp.dot(Bsp) doesn't quite work because you can't multiply two 1xN matrices. I'd have to transpose each array to Nx1, and that's pretty lame, since I'd be doing it for every dot-product calculation. Next up, I tried to create an NxN matrix where column 1 == row 1 (such that you can multiply two matrices and just take the top-left corner as the dot product), but that turned out to be really inefficient. I'd love to use scipy's sparse package as a magic replacement for numpy's array(), but as yet, I'm not really sure what to do. Any advice? Thank you very much!

• glitchy stuttery iphone game loop

  This is a problem I've been trying to solve for a few days now, and I've looked at the various solutions on stackoverflow and nothing has really seemed to work for me. I'm making an iPhone game with OpenGLES graphics and accelerometer input, at this point it's very simple, but the rendering is already pretty bad... it stutters and seems to jump back or forward in time. It doesn't happen a lot, but it happens enough to be a problem. I mean, who wants to play a game where a bullet gets magically transported into the player, and then it's game over? No one. I've tried using NSTimer for the game loop, I've tried using a separate thread (with a frame rate and continuously) I've tried using different frame rates, from 30FPS to 60FPS (It seems to have a max frame rate around 45FPS, but no problems at 30FPS) I've tried using timeIntervalSince1970 and CFGetAbsoluteTime to measure loop time, with no noticeable diffence Anyone have any ideas on what is the best way to get this looking better? One of the posts I've read suggested running the simulation at a fixed frame rate and then just render as fast as possible, does that seem like a good idea?
