  Hi there I have set up my coldfusion application to have dynamic urls on the page, such as www.musicExplained/index.cfm/artist/:VariableName However my variable names will sometimes contain backslashes, such as www.musicExplained/index.cfm/artist/GZA/Genius This is causing a problem, because my application presumes that the slash in the variable name represents a different section of the website, the artists albums. So the URL will fail. I am wondering if there is anyway to prevent this from happening? Do I need to use a function that replaces slashes in the variable names with another character? Thanks

  We are using ASP.NET with a lot of AJAX "Page Method" calls. The WebServices defined in the Page invokes methods from our BusinessLayer. To prevent hackers to call the Page Methods, we want to implement some security in the BusinessLayer. We are struggling with two different issues. First one: public List<Employees> GetAllEmployees() { // do stuff } This Method should be called by Authorized Users with the Role "HR". Second one: public Order GetMyOrder(int orderId) { // do sutff } This Method should only be called by the owner of the Order. I know it's easy to implement the security for each method like: public List<Employees> GetAllEmployees() { // check if the user is in Role HR } or public Order GetMyOrder(int orderId) { // check if the order.Owner = user } What I'm looking for is some pattern/best practice to implement this kind of security in a generic way (without coding the the if then else every time) I hope you get what i mean :-)

  I'm using the built-in ajax functionality of MVC2. Basically the user types a search query, and on every key press a set of results for the query is shown. This works fine in almost all cases, but sometimes the server is a bit slow with a single response, and thus the result for the next key stroke is returned before the previous. When the previous key stroke result set is finally returned to the client it will overwrite the results for the newer search query that should actually have been shown. My code follows more or less along these lines: <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("SearchUser", null, new AjaxOptions() { UpdateTargetId = "findUserResults" }, new { id = "findUserAjaxForm" })) {%> Every keystroke submits this form and thus outputs the results in the 'findUserResults' element. The typical pattern is to present a challenge to each URL that is opened, yet the challenge doesn't actually belong to the page itself which causes additional bandwidth usage.   Q:i have a general problem ,,when i wanna to do some thing and i find the jquery file which can do exactly what i wanna to do .. after a while i need another case and i find that another jquery file serve me and fix my problem .. after i add set of jquery files i find conflicts among those files and some features does not work or work in awkward manner ..and when i try to find which file exactly the source for those problems i find myself in closed circle cannot modify this file or cannot delete this file or cannot find that file itself at all ..sometimes the file like this:: <script src="http://jqueryjs.googlecode.com/files/jquery-1.3.js" type="text/javascript"></script> cannot modify it.. the problem has many faces ,, and i cannot really know how to handle the whole matter from the beginning... can any one give me instructions ,, advices,, notes, or explanation to prevent the problem from the beginning and how to fix it if it was happened..

• Is there a browser-agnostic way to detect client-side script errors with Watin?

  We're using WatiN to test our web portals. During the course of an E2E test, we'll occasionally see client-side script errors on the IE status bar. I'd like to chain a handler onto the script error event and record the error for later analysis and bug filing. Problem is, I don't know that there's a global script error event or how to chain into it. And if there's not a browser-agnostic way to accomplish this, I can create MyIE and MyFF subclasses but then this becomes two browser-specific questions. In essence, I'm thinking of something like this entirely made-up call: browser.ScriptEngine.SetCustomErrorHandler(LogScriptingError); ... where LogScriptErrors is my code that does the obvious. Many of our client-side scripting errors don't necessarily prevent the test from continuing (a pretty UI element didn't animate, for example, but the underlying form is still submittable), so I'd like to log the error and forge ahead in most cases.

However, using the same connection causes SQLite to synchronize access to the database. Thus, if I have many threads performing reads against an in-memory database, it is slower on a multi-core machine than the exact same code running against a file-backed database. Is there any way to get the best of both worlds? That is, an in-memory database that permits multiple, concurrent calls to the database?

• Disable buttons on post back using jquery in .net app

  I have a asp.net app that I want to disable the buttons as soon as they are clicked in order to prevent multiple submissions. I'd like to use jquery for this as the site already liberally uses it anyway. What I've tried is: $(document).ready(function () { $("#aspnetForm").submit(function () { $('input[type=submit]', $(this)).attr("disabled", "disabled"); }) }); The above will disable the button, and the page submits, but the asp.net button on click handler is never called. Simply removing the above and the buttons work as normal. Is there a better way?

  Hey, Is it possible that the same name used can have many different values stored separately and to be shown in a list? e.g. function save() { var inputfield = document.getElementById('field').innerHTML; localStorage['justified'] = inputfield; } <input type="text" id="field" onclick="save();" /> Everytime someone enters something in the input field, and click on save, the localstorage will only save the value in the same name, however, does this conflict the way storage are saved, like being replaced with the latest input value? Also, is there anyway to prevent clearing the localstorage when clearing the cache? Thanks.

But, the problem occurs when I try to find the newly added script. I use this code to iterate through all script elements: var bAdd = true; $("script").each(function() { if(this.src == sFile) bAdd = false; }); (I need this code to prevent adding script that is already loaded) Problem is that all other script elements have src attribute set, but the newly added (dynamically) has not...   Hello fellow SO members, I want to prevent the user from copy-pasting values in my TextBox IF AND ONLY IF the values do not respect a certain condition. For instance, I created a DigitsOnlyTextBox which will be used for phone numbers. • HTML table with fixed cells size

  I have an HTML table which has equally divided rows and columns. I would like each cell to be of a fixed size, say 40px width and 30px height. When I change the size of the browser window, the cells size changes also. How can I prevent it ? I would expect to see the scroll bars if browser's window become too small. Is that right to set the height and the width of the cell in pixels ? Thanks !

  Hi, I have a script which captures tweets and puts them into a database. I will be running the script on a cronjob and then displaying the tweets on my site from the database to prevent hitting the limit on the twitter API. So I don't want to have duplicate tweets in my database, I understand I can use 'INSERT...ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE' to achieve this, but I don't quite understand how to use it. My database structure is as follows. Table - Hash id (auto_increment) tweet user user_url And currently my SQL to insert is as follows: $tweet = $clean_content[0]; $user_url = $clean_uri[0]; $user = $clean_name[0]; $query='INSERT INTO hash (tweet, user, user_url) VALUES ("'.$tweet.'", "'.$user.'", "'.$user_url.'")'; mysql_query($query); How would I correctly use 'INSERT...ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE' to insert only if it doesn't exist, and update if it does? • sudo changes PATH - why?

  This is the PATH variable without sudo: $ echo 'echo $PATH' | sh /opt/local/ruby/bin:/usr/bin:/bin This is the PATH variable with sudo: $echo 'echo $PATH' | sudo sh /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin As far as I can tell, sudo is supposed to leave PATH untouched. What's going on? How do I change this? (This is on Ubuntu 8.04). UPDATE: as far as I can see, none of the scripts started as root change PATH in any way. From man sudo: To prevent command spoofing, sudo checks ``.'' and ``'' (both denoting current directory) last when searching for a command in the user's PATH (if one or both are in the PATH). Note, however, that the actual PATH environment variable is not modified and is passed unchanged to the program that sudo executes.

• Customizing File Linkage for a Build Configuration (Not Buil Target)

  I have a project that has several build configurations (FREE version, male-only, female-only, etc.). I am avoiding using multiple build targets because (A) the products are mostly all the same and (B) I don't want to have to do checkbox-management to keep every file I have included with all the targets. However, I have just a few files it would be nice NOT to include in certain builds. For example, I have male and female voice files, but I only want the male files in the male build and female voices in the female build. Question...is there a way to manage the build configuration to prevent these files from being included/linked in? What are my options?

• Magento cache wrong read permissions?

  There seems to be a problem in Magento's reading of the var/cache directory. I've disabled Full Page Caching for testing. When I execute the bash command chmod -R 777var/cache/` before loading the page, it loads ~3 seconds quicker (the time it takes before 'mage::dispatch::routers_match' is reached in the Profiler is reduced from ~4 seconds to ~1 second). This speed-up remains a while but then is lost until the chmod is called again. I'm guessing this has to do with writing permissions somehow? The odd thing is, the cache contents are afaik owned by the process that is executing magento (the web user). Does anyone have any clues what could be the problem or what could be changed to prevent this?

• Why does Google append while(1); in front of their JSON responses?

  This is something I've always been curious about, is exactly why Google appends while(1); in front of their (private) JSON responses. For example, here's a response while turning a calendar on and off in Google Calendar: while(1);[['u',[['smsSentFlag','false'],['hideInvitations','false'],['remindOnRespondedEventsOnly','true'],['hideInvitations_remindOnRespondedEventsOnly','false_true'],['Calendar ID stripped for privacy','false'],['smsVerifiedFlag','true']]]] I would assume this is to prevent people from doing an eval() on it, but all you'd really have to do is replace the while and then you'd be set. I would assume eval prevention is to make sure people write safe JSON parsing code. I've seen this used in a couple other places, too, but a lot more so with Google (Mail, Calendar, Contacts, etc.) Strangely enough, Google Docs starts with &&&START&&& instead, and Google Contacts seems to start with while(1); &&&START&&&. Does anyone know what's going on here?

  Basically I create a page with a jQuery scroller on it. However in IE7 specifically, on refresh all the li's on the page are shown full out then they hide and the scroller begins. • How can I leverage String constants in an XML file?

  I'd like to enforce standardized keys by storing them as static final String variables on a Java class, and either referencing or statically importing them, to use them as values in either XML, Strings, Methods, Annotations, etc. Does anyone know a good way to have Maven insert (like filtering) values like StringKeys.SOME_KEY into an XML file? e.g. something like <element value="${StringKeys.SOME_KEY}"/> or similar - the main idea is to enforce commonality and prevent key mis-alignment. Or an alternative solution to accomplish the same - with some semantic that if a non-existant String is referenced, that it fails during build? Bonus points if it works in C# as well.
