• ODI 11g – Expert Accelerator for Model Creation

- by David Allan
Following on from my post earlier this morning on scripting model and topology creation tonight I thought I’d add a little UI to make those groovy functions a little more palatable. In OWB we have experts for capturing user input, with the groovy console we open up opportunities to build UI around the scripts in a very easy way – even I can do it;-) After a little googling around I found some useful posts on SwingBuilder, the most useful one that I used for the dialog below was this one here. This dialog captures user input for the technology and context for the model and logical schema etc to be created. You can see there are a variety of interesting controls, and its really easy to do. The dialog captures the users input, then when OK is pressed I call the functions from the earlier post to create the logical schema (plus all the other objects) and model. The image below shows what was created, you can see the model (with typo in name), the model is Oracle technology and references the logical schema ORACLE_SCOTT (that I named in dialog above), the logical schema is mapped via the GLOBAL context to the data server ORACLE_SCOTT_DEV (that I named in dialog above), and the physical schema used was just the user name that I connected with – so if you wanted a different user the schema name could be added to the dialog. In a nutshell, one dialog that encapsulates a simpler mechanism for creating a model. You can create your own scripts that use dialogs like this, capture input and process. You can find the groovy script for this is here odi_create_model.groovy, again I wrapped the user capture code in a groovy function and return the result in a variable and then simply call the createLogicalSchema and createModel functions from the previous posting. The script I supplied above has everything you will need. To execute use Tools->Groovy->Open Script and then execute the green play button on the toolbar. Have fun.

• How to get sound on macbook pro 4,1

• Secure iptables config for Samba

- by Eric
I'm trying to setup an iptables config such that outbound connections from my CentOS 6.2 server are allowed ONLY if they are of state ESTABLISHED. Currently, the following setup is working great for sshd, but all the Samba rules get totally ignored for a reason I cannot figure out. iptables Bash script to setup ALL rules: # Remove all existing rules iptables -F # Set default chain policies iptables -P INPUT DROP iptables -P FORWARD DROP iptables -P OUTPUT DROP # Allow incoming SSH iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 22222 -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -o eth0 -p tcp --sport 22222 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT # Allow incoming Samba iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -s 10.1.1.0/24 -p udp --dport 137:138 -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -o eth0 -d 10.1.1.0/24 -p udp --sport 137:138 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -s 10.1.1.0/24 -p tcp --dport 139 -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -o eth0 -d 10.1.1.0/24 -p tcp --sport 139 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT # Enable these rules service iptables restart iptables rule list after running the above script: [root@repoman ~]# iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy DROP) target prot opt source destination ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:22222 state NEW,ESTABLISHED Chain FORWARD (policy DROP) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy DROP) target prot opt source destination ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp spt:22222 state ESTABLISHED Ultimately, I'm trying to restrict Samba the same way I have done for sshd. In addition, I'm trying to restrict connections to the following IP address range: 10.1.1.12 - 10.1.1.19 Can you guys offer some pointers or possibly even a full-blown solution? I've read man iptables quite extensively, so I'm not sure why the Samba rules are getting thrown out. Additionally, removing the -s 10.1.1.0/24 flags don't change the fact the rules get ignored.

• LibGDX Boid Seek Behaviour

- by childonline
I'm trying to make a swarm of boids which seek out the mouse position and move towards it, but I'm having a bit of a problem. The boids just seem to want to go to upper-right corner of the game window. The mouse position seems influence the behavior a bit, but not enough to make the boid turn towards it. I suspect there is a problem with the way LibGDX handles its coordinate system, but I'm not sure how to fix it I've uploaded the eclipse project here! Also here are the relevant bits of my code, in case you see something obviously wrong: public Agent(){ _texture = GdxGame.TEX_AGENT; TextureRegion region = new TextureRegion(_texture, 0, 0, 32, 32); TextureRegion region2 = new TextureRegion(GdxGame.TEX_TARGET, 0, 0, 32, 32); _sprite = new Sprite(region); _sprite.setSize(.05f, .05f); _sprite_target = new Sprite(region2); _sprite_target.setSize(.1f, .1f); _max_velocity = 0.05f; _max_speed = 0.005f; _velocity = new Vector2(0, 0); _desired_velocity = new Vector2(0, 0); _steering = new Vector2(0, 0); _position = new Vector2(-_sprite.getWidth()/2, -_sprite.getHeight()/2); _mass = 10f; } public void Update(float deltaTime){ _target = new Vector2(Gdx.input.getX(), Gdx.input.getY()); _desired_velocity = ((_target.sub(_position)).nor()).scl(_max_velocity,_max_velocity); _steering = ((_desired_velocity.sub(_velocity)).limit(_max_speed)).div(_mass); _velocity = (_velocity.add(_steering)).limit(_max_speed); _position = _position.add(_velocity); _sprite.setPosition(_position.x, _position.y); _sprite_target.setPosition(Gdx.input.getX(), Gdx.input.getY()); } I've used this tutorial here. Thanks!

• How to Buy an SD Card: Speed Classes, Sizes, and Capacities Explained

- by Chris Hoffman
Memory cards are used in digital cameras, music players, smartphones, tablets, and even laptops. But not all SD cards are created equal — there are different speed classes, physical sizes, and capacities to consider. Different devices require different types of SD cards. Here are the differences you’ll need to keep in mind when picking out the right SD card for your device. Speed Class In a nutshell, not all SD cards offer the same speeds. This matters for some tasks more than it matters for others. For example, if you’re a professional photographer taking photos in rapid succession on a DSLR camera saving them in high-resolution RAW format, you’ll want a fast SD card so your camera can save them as fast as possible. A fast SD card is also important if you want to record high-resolution video and save it directly to the SD card. If you’re just taking a few photos on a typical consumer camera or you’re just using an SD card to store some media files on your smartphone, the speed isn’t as important. Manufacturers use “speed classes” to measure an SD card’s speed. The SD Association that defines the SD card standard doesn’t actually define the exact speeds associated with these classes, but they do provide guidelines. There are four different speed classes — 10, 8, 4, and 2. 10 is the fastest, while 2 is the slowest. Class 2 is suitable for standard definition video recording, while classes 4 and 6 are suitable for high-definition video recording. Class 10 is suitable for “full HD video recording” and “HD still consecutive recording.” There are also two Ultra High Speed (UHS) speed classes, but they’re more expensive and are designed for professional use. UHS cards are designed for devices that support UHS. Here are the associated logos, in order from slowest to fastest: You’ll probably be okay with a class 4 or 6 card for typical use in a digital camera, smartphone, or tablet. Class 10 cards are ideal if you’re shooting high-resolution videos or RAW photos. Class 2 cards are a bit on the slow side these days, so you may want to avoid them for all but the cheapest digital cameras. Even a cheap smartphone can record HD video, after all. An SD card’s speed class is identified on the SD card itself. You’ll also see the speed class on the online store listing or on the card’s packaging when purchasing it. For example, in the below photo, the middle SD card is speed class 4, while the two other cards are speed class 6. If you see no speed class symbol, you have a class 0 SD card. These cards were designed and produced before the speed class rating system was introduced. They may be slower than even a class 2 card. Physical Size Different devices use different sizes of SD cards. You’ll find standard-size CD cards, miniSD cards, and microSD cards. Standard SD cards are the largest, although they’re still very small. They measure 32x24x2.1 mm and weigh just two grams. Most consumer digital cameras for sale today still use standard SD cards. They have the standard “cut corner” design. miniSD cards are smaller than standard SD cards, measuring 21.5x20x1.4 mm and weighing about 0.8 grams. This is the least common size today. miniSD cards were designed to be especially small for mobile phones, but we now have a smaller size. microSD cards are the smallest size of SD card, measuring 15x11x1 mm and weighing just 0.25 grams. These cards are used in most cell phones and smartphones that support SD cards. They’re also used in many other devices, such as tablets. SD cards will only fit into marching slots. You can’t plug a microSD card into a standard SD card slot — it won’t fit. However, you can purchase an adapter that allows you to plug a smaller SD card into a larger SD card’s form and fit it into the appropriate slot. Capacity Like USB flash drives, hard drives, solid-state drives, and other storage media, different SD cards can have different amounts of storage. But the differences between SD card capacities don’t stop there. Standard SDSC (SD) cards are 1 MB to 2 GB in size, or perhaps 4 GB in size — although 4 GB is non-standard. The SDHC standard was created later, and allows cards 2 GB to 32 GB in size. SDXC is a more recent standard that allows cards 32 GB to 2 TB in size. You’ll need a device that supports SDHC or SDXC cards to use them. At this point, the vast majority of devices should support SDHC. In fact, the SD cards you have are probably SDHC cards. SDXC is newer and less common. When buying an SD card, you’ll need to buy the right speed class, size, and capacity for your needs. Be sure to check what your device supports and consider what speed and capacity you’ll actually need. Image Credit: Ryosuke SEKIDO on Flickr, Clive Darra on Flickr, Steven Depolo on Flickr

But my virtual host wiki.mysite.com is not responding. Please, help me to setup iptables config to allow wiki.mysite.com working too. I think, I need to setup iptables FORWARDING options, but I don't know how. update: I have 1 server with 1 IP. On server I have apache2.2 on 80 port. Also I have tomcat6 on 8901 port. In apache I setup to forwarding domain wiki.mysite.com to tomcat (mysite.com:8901). I want to secure my server by disabling all ports, except 80, 22 and 443.

Thoughts? -- EDIT -- After playing with it a bit, I would think it has something to do with referencing the projects. I'm already referencing the TiledLib within my main windows project (TiledTest). However, this doesn't seem to make a difference. I can place the dll generated from the TiledLib project into the debug folder of TiledTest, and this causes it to generate a different error: Error loading "desert". The TiledLib I am utilizing is from Nick Gravelyn, and can be found here: https://bitbucket.org/nickgravelyn/tiledlib. The demo it comes with works fine, and yet in recreating I always run into this error.

• Understanding Photography and Color Temperature

- by Jason Fitzpatrick
Most digital cameras have the ability to set the “color temperature” based on the condition, but what exactly does that mean? This simple cheat sheet highlights the differences between various lighting situations and what settings you should use. Courtesy of Digital Camera World, the above chart shows where on the scale various color temperatures fall, how the automatic white balance works, and which presets you should use if available. • iptables port forwarding works only for localhost

- by Venki
Below is my iptables config. I used this for my accessing a node js website running in port 9000 through port 80. This works fine only if access the website through local host / loop back. When I try to use the ip of eth0, which is assigned by my router through dcp. this does not work, when I use ip like 192.168.0.103 to access the website. I am not able to figure what is wrong here, Already burnt a day in this, still not able to figure out :( Edit: ( more information) Earlier, I was using this configuration to develop the website, i had configured the domain name to point to 127.0.0.1 in the /etc/hosts file. It was working fine, but now I am trying to deploy the website in a vps with static ip, This configuration does not work with both static IP. # redirect port 80 to port 9000 *nat :PREROUTING ACCEPT [57:3896] :INPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [4229:289686] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [4239:290286] -A PREROUTING -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-ports 9000 -A OUTPUT -d 127.0.0.1/32 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-ports 9000 COMMIT # Allow HTTP and HTTPS connections from anywhere (the normal ports for websites and SSL). -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 9000 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -j REJECT

• Gesture Detector not firing

- by Tyler
So I'm trying to create a input class that implements a InputHandler & GestureListener in order to support both Android & Desktop. The problem is that not all the methods are being called properly. Here is the input class definition & a couple of the methods: public class InputHandler implements GestureListener, InputProcessor{ ... public InputHandler(OrthographicCamera camera, Map m, Player play, Vector2 maxPos) { ... @Override public boolean zoom(float originalDistance, float currentDistance) { //this.zoom = true; this.zoomRatio = originalDistance / currentDistance; cam.zoom = cam.zoom * zoomRatio; Gdx.app.log("GestureDetector", "Zoom - ratio: " + zoomRatio); return true; } @Override public boolean touchDown(int x, int y, int pointerNum, int button) { booleanConditions[TOUCH_EVENT] = true; this.inputButton = button; this.inputFingerNum = pointerNum; this.lastTouchEventLoc.set(x,y); this.currentCursorPos.set(x,y); if(pointerNum == 1) { //this.fingerOne = true; this.fOnePosition.set(x, y); } else if(pointerNum == 2) { //this.fingerTwo = true; this.fTwoPosition.set(x,y); } Gdx.app.log("GestureDetector", "touch down at " + x + ", " + y + ", pointer: " + pointerNum); return true; } The touchDown event always occurs but I can never trigger Zoom (or pan among others...). The following is where I register and create the input handler in the "Game Screen". public class GameScreen implements Screen { ... this.inputHandler = new InputHandler(this.cam, this.map, this.player, this.map.maxCamPos); Gdx.input.setInputProcessor(this.inputHandler); Anyone have any ideas why zoom, pan, etc... are not triggering? Thanks!

• Vehicle: Boat accelerating and turning in Unity

- by Emilios S.
I'm trying to make a player-controllable boat in Unity and I'm running into problems with my code. 1) I want to make the boat to accelerate and decelerate steadily instead of simply moving the speed I'm telling it to right away. 2) I want to make the player unable to steer the boat unless it is moving. 3) If possible, I want to simulate the vertical floating of a boat during its movement (it going up and down) My current code (C#) is this: using UnityEngine; using System.Collections; public class VehicleScript : MonoBehaviour { public float speed=10; public float rotationspeed=50; // Use this for initialization // Update is called once per frame void Update () { // Forward movement if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.I)) speed = transform.Translate (Vector3.left*speed*Time.deltaTime); // Backward movement if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.K)) transform.Translate (Vector3.right*speed*Time.deltaTime); // Left movement if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.J)) transform.Rotate (Vector3.down*rotationspeed*Time.deltaTime); // Right movement if(Input.GetKey(KeyCode.L)) transform.Rotate (Vector3.up*rotationspeed*Time.deltaTime); } } In the current state of my code, when I press the specified keys, the boat simply moves 10 units/sec instantly, and also stops instantly. I'm not really sure how to make the things stated above, so any help would be appreciated. Just to clarify, I don't necessarily need the full code to implement those features, I just want to know what functions to use in order to achieve the desired effects. Thank you very much.

• Wolfram is out, any alternatives? Or how to go custom?

- by Patrick
We were originally planning on using wolfram alpha api for a new project but unfortunately the cost was entirely way to high for what we were using it for. Essentially what we were doing is calculating the nutrition facts for food. (http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=chicken+breast+with+broccoli). Before taking the step of trying to build something that may work in its place for this use case is there any open source code anywhere that can do this kind of analysis and compile the data? The hardest part in my opinion is what it has for assumptions and where it gets that data to power the calculations. Or another way to put it is, I cannot seem to wrap my head around building something that computes user input to return facts and knowledge. I know if I can convert the user input into some standardized form I can then compare that to a nutrition fact database to pull in the information I need. Does anyone know of any solutions to re-create this or APIs that can provide this kind of analysis? Thanks for any advice. I am trying to figure out if this project is dead in the water before it even starts. This kind of programming is well beyond me so I can only hope for an API, open source, or some kind of analysis engine to interpret user input when I know what kind of data they are entering (measurements and food).

• Mail server hammering

- by Rodrigo
I've noticed a quick increase on smtp connections coming to my server, investigating it further i figured out that there's a botnet hammering my smtp server. I've tried to stop it by adding a rule at iptables: -N SMTP-BLOCK -A SMTP-BLOCK -m limit --limit 1/m --limit-burst 3 -j LOG --log-level notice --log-prefix "iptables SMTP-BLOCK " -A SMTP-BLOCK -m recent --name SMTPBLOCK --set -j DROP -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -m state --state NEW -m recent --name SMTPBLOCK --rcheck --seconds 360 -j SMTP-BLOCK -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -m state --state NEW -m recent --name SMTP --set -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -m state --state NEW -m recent --name SMTP --rcheck --seconds 60 --hitcount 3 -j SMTP-BLOCK -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT That would avoid them from hammering "too fast", however the problem still, there's like 5 tries per second, it's going insane, i had to incrase the maximum number of childs of sendmail/dovecot. There's too many ips to filter out manually and simply changing the smtp to another port is not practical since i got many other clients on that server. I'm using sendmail with dovecot, any ideas to have this filtered out more efficiently?

• Imaging: Paper Paper Everywhere, but None Should be in Sight

- by Kellsey Ruppel
Author: Vikrant Korde, Technical Architect, Aurionpro's Oracle Implementation Services team My wedding photos are stored in several empty shoeboxes. Yes...I got married before digital photography was mainstream...which means I'm old. But my parents are really old. They have shoeboxes filled with vacation photos on slides (I doubt many of you have even seen a home slide projector...and I hope you never do!). Neither me nor my parents should have shoeboxes filled with any form of photographs whatsoever. They should obviously live in the digital world...with no physical versions in sight (other than a few framed on our walls). Businesses grapple with similar challenges. But instead of shoeboxes, they have file cabinets and warehouses jam packed with paper invoices, legal documents, human resource files, material safety data sheets, incident reports, and the list goes on and on. In fact, regulatory and compliance rules govern many industries, requiring that this paperwork is available for any number of years. It's a real challenge...especially trying to find archived documents quickly and many times with no backup. Which brings us to a set of technologies called Image Process Management (or simply Imaging or Image Processing) that are transforming these antiquated, paper-based processes. Oracle's WebCenter Content Imaging solution is a combination of their WebCenter suite, which offers a robust set of content and document management features, and their Business Process Management (BPM) suite, which helps to automate business processes through the definition of workflows and business rules. Overall, the solution provides an enterprise-class platform for end-to-end management of document images within transactional business processes. It's a solution that provides all of the capabilities needed - from document capture and recognition, to imaging and workflow - to effectively transform your ‘shoeboxes’ of files into digitally managed assets that comply with strict industry regulations. The terminology can be quite overwhelming if you're new to the space, so we've provided a summary of the primary components of the solution below, along with a short description of the two paths that can be executed to load images of scanned documents into Oracle's WebCenter suite. WebCenter Imaging (WCI): the electronic document repository that provides security, annotations, and search capabilities, and is the primary user interface for managing work items in the imaging solution SOA & BPM Suites (workflow): provide business process management capabilities, including human tasks, workflow management, service integration, and all other standard SOA features. It's interesting to note that there a number of 'jumpstart' processes available to help accelerate the integration of business applications, such as the accounts payable invoice processing solution for E-Business Suite that facilitates the processing of large volumes of invoices WebCenter Enterprise Capture (WEC): expedites the capture process of paper documents to digital images, offering high volume scanning and importing from email, and allows for flexible indexing options WebCenter Forms Recognition (WFR): automatically recognizes, categorizes, and extracts information from paper documents with greatly reduced human intervention WebCenter Content: the backend content server that provides versioning, security, and content storage There are two paths that can be executed to send data from WebCenter Capture to WebCenter Imaging, both of which are described below: 1. Direct Flow - This is the simplest and quickest way to push an image scanned from WebCenter Enterprise Capture (WEC) to WebCenter Imaging (WCI), using the bare minimum metadata. The WEC activities are defined below: The paper document is scanned (or imported from email). The scanned image is indexed using a predefined indexing profile. The image is committed directly into the process flow 2. WFR (WebCenter Forms Recognition) Flow - This is the more complex process, during which data is extracted from the image using a series of operations including Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Classification, Extraction, and Export. This process creates three files (Tiff, XML, and TXT), which are fed to the WCI Input Agent (the high speed import/filing module). The WCI Input Agent directory is a standard ingestion method for adding content to WebCenter Imaging, the process for doing so is described below: WEC commits the batch using the respective commit profile. A TIFF file is created, passing data through the file name by including values separated by "_" (underscores). WFR completes OCR, classification, extraction, export, and pulls the data from the image. In addition to the TIFF file, which contains the document image, an XML file containing the extracted data, and a TXT file containing the metadata that will be filled in WCI, are also created. All three files are exported to WCI's Input agent directory. Based on previously defined "input masks", the WCI Input Agent will pick up the seeding file (often the TXT file). Finally, the TIFF file is pushed in UCM and a unique web-viewable URL is created. Based on the mapping data read from the TXT file, a new record is created in the WCI application. Although these processes may seem complex, each Oracle component works seamlessly together to achieve a high performing and scalable platform. The solution has been field tested at some of the largest enterprises in the world and has transformed millions and millions of paper-based documents to more easily manageable digital assets. • 8-Puzzle Solution executes infinitely [migrated]

- by Ashwin
I am looking for a solution to 8-puzzle problem using the A* Algorithm. I found this project on the internet. Please see the files - proj1 and EightPuzzle. The proj1 contains the entry point for the program(the main() function) and EightPuzzle describes a particular state of the puzzle. Each state is an object of the 8-puzzle. I feel that there is nothing wrong in the logic. But it loops forever for these two inputs that I have tried : {8,2,7,5,1,6,3,0,4} and {3,1,6,8,4,5,7,2,0}. Both of them are valid input states. What is wrong with the code? Note For better viewing copy the code in a Notepad++ or some other text editor(which has the capability to recognize java source file) because there are lot of comments in the code. Since A* requires a heuristic, they have provided the option of using manhattan distance and a heuristic that calculates the number of misplaced tiles. And to ensure that the best heuristic is executed first, they have implemented a PriorityQueue. The compareTo() function is implemented in the EightPuzzle class. The input to the program can be changed by changing the value of p1d in the main() function of proj1 class. The reason I am telling that there exists solution for the two my above inputs is because the applet here solves them. Please ensure that you select 8-puzzle from teh options in the applet. EDITI gave this input {0,5,7,6,8,1,2,4,3}. It took about 10 seconds and gave a result with 26 moves. But the applet gave a result with 24 moves in 0.0001 seconds with A*. • Let’s try this again…

- by svanvliet
So it’s been a really long time since I consistently blogged on my previous ASP.NET blog (and, let’s be honest, it wasn’t that consistent to begin with!) With the mainstream use of microblogging sites like Facebook and Twitter, I’ve been able to post more frequent updates (http://www.facebook.com/scott.vanvliet & http://twitter.com/scottvanvliet) but haven’t really authored any good content lately. Well, I decided it’s time for me to try again! I’ve relocated my blog from the ASP.NET weblogs site to my new home here at http://geekswithblogs.net (thanks @jjulian and @jalexander!) I hope to be posting musings on here about Silverlight, motion graphics, digital media, digital supply chain, and even personal/fun stuff. Stay tuned!

• IPTables configuration for Localhost

- by Gabe Mc
I have a problem in connecting a JIRA instance running on a cloud server to an instance of MySQL running on the same box. I have configured it previously using quite a few iptables rules, but it seems overly broad/terribly inprecise. I want access to several of localhosts ports from the local machine, but deny it from all other accounts. Currently, my /etc/iptables.rules file looks like: *filter :INPUT DROP [223:17779] :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [10161:1120819] # SSH Access -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -i eth0 -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT # Apache2 Access for connecting to Tomcat on port 8080 -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT # MySQL -I INPUT -i lo -p tcp -m tcp --dport mysql -j ACCEPT COMMIT However, this doesn't allow me to log in when I try logging in; it just hangs on: #> mysql -u root -p -h 127.0.0.1 The Tomcat servlet container starts throwing all kinds of exceptions, as well. This is a more general problem, as I need to enable things like accessing the shutdown port for the Tomcat container, but I need to at least get the MySQL part ironed out first, without the ugliness I was originally trying. Thanks.

• tcpdump output with iptables REJECT policy enabled

- by Pablo Santa Cruz
Hi all, Quick question. I have a firewall with these simple rules: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s 127.0.0.1/32 --dport 6000 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s 192.168.16.20/32 --dport 6000 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 6000 -j REJECT Now, suppose I am using TCPDUMP like this: tcpdump port 6000 And I have host 192.168.16.21 trying to connect to port 6000. My question is: will/should tcpdump output some packages coming from 192.168.16.21?

• Automatically select headphones when plugged in

- by Joachim Pileborg
When I plug headphones into my desktop computer, they are not automatically selected for output, instead all sound still goes through my S/PDIF output to the stereo. The headphones alternative is added in the sound settings, and I have to manually select it as output device. $ cat /proc/asound/pcm 00-00: ALC898 Analog : ALC898 Analog : playback 1 : capture 1 00-01: ALC898 Digital : ALC898 Digital : playback 1 00-02: ALC898 Analog : ALC898 Analog : capture 2 I have done a Google search, as well as search askubuntu.com, but none of the answers in the hits I found seems to help. Also, after listening with the headphones and then unplug them, the previous output is not automatically selected, so I have no sound at all then. I have to manually select the correct output in the settings.

• Logitech USB headset not working on 12.04

- by thepeoplescoder
I've looked around for answers to this question, But none of them seem to work for my particular problem. Obviously my USB headset isn't working, But I might as well share the scenario. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and I have a Logitech USB headset. The relevant output from dmesg is as follows: [160708.528047] usb 2-1.2: USB disconnect, device number 9 [160768.890123] usb 2-1.2: new full-speed USB device number 10 using ehci_hcd [160768.997578] input: Logitech Logitech USB Headset as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.2/2-1.2:1.3/input/input15 [160768.997795] generic-usb 0003:046D:0A0C.0005: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.00 Device [Logitech Logitech USB Headset] on usb-0000:00:1d.0-1.2/input3 When I go to System Settings - Sound, My headset shows up in both the Output and Input tabs, It is called "Clear Chat Comfort USB Headset" in those tabs, But I doubt that's a serious issue. When I click my headset in either tab to use it, The changes are not remembered when I reopen the sound settings, the built-in audio is still used. Also when I select the headset in the Output tab, and click the Test Sound button to test everything, The sound still comes from my laptop's onboard audio, instead of from my USB headset. Does anyone know how to correct this? I am stumped.
