• A good file management/hosting/storage web service with embed-function?

  I am looking for a file management web service that lets me integrate the directory-view into a commercial website. Another requirement: User can register themselves, but need to be approved, before being able to download files. So something like box.net, but with more than just a a flash-widget. I would prefer some javascript, that can be embedded. Thanks for any recommendations.

  When I drag a file from "Downloads" to my USB stick window, it copies. I want it moved. What do I have to config, or which key to press to achieve this? (Yes, I googled, but came up empty). And cut/copy... not an option, since cut doesn't. System is Ubuntu 9.10, if it's an Ubuntu thing.

• How do I get ftype & assoc to match Windows Explorer?

  I changed the association to use upon launching a .py file, via Windows Explorer: Tools - Folders - File types. Then browse to .py. Change the association to Wordpad. Now when I type the name of a py file in the command line, Wordpad opens it. But assoc and ftype in the command line still return the following: C:\> assoc .py .py = Python.File C:\> ftype Python.File Python.File = "C:\Program\Python27\python.exe" "%1" %* How come the association is working, but assoc and ftype are not aware of it? I did restart the prompt. More info from my registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.py = Python.File HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.py\Application = wordpad.exe HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.py\OpenWithProgids\Python.File = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.py\(Standard) = Python.File More registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\python.exe\shell\open\command\(Standard) = "C:\Program\Python27\python.exe" "%1" %*` I suppose this is what is showing up in ftype Python.File. • Understanding Authorized Access to your Google Account

  I'm having trouble understanding what I'm am granting to sites when they have "Authorized Access to my Google Account." This is how I see what has authorized access: Log into gmail. Click on the link that is my name in the upper-right corner, and from the drop-down select Account. From the list of links to the left, select Security. Click on Edit next to Authorized applications and sites. Authenticate again. At the top of the page, I see a set of sites that have authorized access to my account in various ways. I'm having trouble finding out information about what is being told to me here. There's no "help" link anywhere on the page and my Google searches are coming up unproductive. From the looks of what I see there, Google has access to my Google calendar. I feel comfortable about that, I think. But other sites have authorization to "Sign in using your Google account". My question is, what exactly does that authorization mean? What do the sites that have authorization to "Sign in using my Google account" have the power to do? I hope that this simply means that they authorize using the same criterion that gmail does. I assume that this doesn't grant them the ability to access my email. Can someone please calm my paranoia by describing (or simply pointing me to a site that describes) what these terms mean exactly? Also, if you have any thoughts about the safety of this feature, please share. Thanks!

  I have installed web application behind IIS which access the files/directory located on the another machine. Now while developing the application using the Visual Studio 2008 then Developer Web Server it provides when build the site was able to access the location. However when the site is deployed on the IIS its saying Unable to access the file because of insufficient permissions. Can some one please help regarding what could be the issue ? any idea or pointers could be helpful. Thanks,

  I have just replaced XP with Server 2008 R2 on my test sever, and have been running 2008 R2 on my dev laptop. When my server was still XP, file sharing just worked, but now it just doesn't. I've enabled everything I can about sharing, and I can ping the server by machine name, but if I try an access a share, I get asked for a password. The passowrd dialog assumes a domain for this user, but neither my laptop admin user nor my server admin user can get past this login. What am I doing wrong?

• Linux program unable to access files in group

  I'm having trouble configuring things on linux so that a program can access certain files. Let's call it pgm A. It has uid uA and gid gA. In addition, uid uA is listed in /etc/group as a member of group gX. The problem is that pgm A cannot access files for which the uid is root and the gid is gX, but only when pgm A is called from another program, pgm B, which also runs as user uA. If I su as user uA and run pgm A from bash, it has no problem accessing files in group gX. But if another program, pgm B, which also runs as user uA, forks and execs pgm A, pgm A cannot access the files. I've verified that pgm A is indeed running as user uA, group gA, when launched from pgm B. So, if uA is a member of group gX, why can't the program access files which are readable by group gX? It's as if the operating system is ignoring the fact that user uA is also in group gX.

  I'm having trouble with my new server and accessing its directories. I updated my proftpd.conf with: DefaultRoot / No I'm able to see the root directory of my server. But, trying to access some directories gives different results. For example, I can access /vars but I can't access /home or /root How can I overcome this? • Client cannot access my IIS7 web server

  I have a Windows 2008 web server on running IIS 7 with about 25 websites. One of those sites is an SaaS application that is accessed constantly throughout the day. However, one particular client keeps getting blocked from my server. They will be using the service, and then all of a sudden they cannot access the program, or any other site on the server. The entire office of 4 users is blocked from accessing anything on the web server. A trace route reveals they get all the way to the server before they are blocked. However, they can access a linux server that is a different VM with a different IP on the same physical server. Also, when they are blocked from their office, they can still access the site from their mobile phone or local Starbucks. They can also occasionally reset the router and gain access to the web server again as they are on a dynamic IP address. I checked IIS and allow all IPs to access the server. There is nothing in the logs the says anything about a user being banned. I really have no idea what is causing this? Could it be a virus on their end? I have even moved the SaaS to a completely new server in a different location, and they were working fine for about a month, and then the problem started occurring again. Are there any hidden blacklists in IIS? Or is it a routing issue on their end?

• How do I remove partitions in the 'Places' section of the Gnome file dialog?

  In the Gnome file dialog under 'Places' I can add and edit bookmarks to directories. That list however not only contains my bookmarks, but also a list of all partitions on the system that Gnome seems to gather automatically. I can't edit that list as the right-click-menu items for that are greyed out. How can I get rid of those automatically generated entries or limit it to just my bookmarks?

• Cannot access folder locally, but can remotely

  I'm having a peculiar problem on one of my servers at the moment, which seems to be related to authentication in some way, but I have no idea how to find the root of the problem. I have a folder on the server D:\Somefolder\Logs. If I am connected to the server via an RDP terminal, so essentially "local", I cannot access that folder - I get an access denied. If I am connecting from my machine to it using the share \server\d$\Somefolder\Logs, I can access it. I'm logging in to both machines as the same user. Permissions on the folder seem quite simple, CREATOR OWNER, SYSTEM and Administrators. I am a Domain Admin, and they are in the local "Administrators" group. It is also affecting things like access to SQL Server, so I don't think it's a simple folder-permissions thing. For example, I cannot connect SQL Management Studio to all the local SQL instances using a domain account, but I can if I connect remotely to it.

  Need to block access to certain website types without listing each URL to block. Students at secondary school are going to porn sites. Need to be able to block all such access without having to list each possible site URL. Having the Content -- Ratings tab set to None for all categories on the ratings files listed on my computers does not prevent access. Unchecking users may access sites with no rating, even with the security settings set to High, still allows the porn sites to come up. If that is checked, then ONLY listed sites can open and students would not be able to do any research via google, for example. I would rather not have to continue checking each computer and blocking sites as they find them.

  I am trying to tune a SQL Server. Per Brent Ozar's Performance Tuning Video, he says the PerfMon's Paging File:%Usage should be zero or ridiculously close to it. The average metric on my box is around 1.341% The box has 18 GB of RAM, the SQL Server is off, the Commit Charge Total is 1GB and yet the PerfMon metric is not 0. The Performance of the Task Manager states that PF Usage is 1.23GB. What should I do to better tune the box?

The application does not support the copy operation if multiple files are selected in the listbox, but at the same time, the application supports 'drag and drop' event for multiple files (allows dragging the files 'out of the application').   I'm Confused from the fact that Vlan tagging is done at access port and trunk port always gets tagged packets (until its case of native vlan).But I still believe in other fact which says tagging happen only when a frame hit the trunk port which means trunk port gets untagged frame and tagging is not possible at access port.   I'm trying to set up our SVN server so that by default the group developers will have access to all repositories, but I want to override that setting on some certain repositories where I want to allow access only to single defined users (or separate groups) The current configuration is SVN + WebDAV on Apache2. All my repositories are located at /var/lib/svn/ In dav_svn.authz I currently have [/] @developers = rw @users = r Now I want to add one repository (let's call it secret_repo) that would only allow access to one user who is also a member of the developers group.¨ I tried to do [secret_repo:/] * = secret_user = rw Where secret_user is the user I'd like to give access to the repository, but it doesn't seem to work. Currently the server is using Apache's LDAP module to authenticate users from our active directory domain and I'd like to keep it that way if possible. Also I seem to be able to browse all my repos freely with any web browser, which I'd like to block. Second problem is that I have webSVN on the server, which is using Apache's LDAP authentication. Everyone who is a member of our domain can access it, so I'd like to hide this secret_repo from websvn listing. It's configured not with parentPath("/var/lib/svn");. Do I really need to remove that and add every repository separately, except the ones I want to hide?

I have admin rights and can set the security for a folder to give me full access but when I switch the check box for read only off then exit out and open the properties back up it is checked. It is a grayed out check box if that helps. I just don't know how I have read/write access but can't switch off read only for a particular folder. Thanks

• Using Dropbox as a cloud based file share - does everyone need an upgraded account?

  We have a file share in our small office (3-5 users). We now have the need for the files to be accessible outside of the office. I like the idea of dropbox - we have been using it for small remote sharing. If we buy the upgrade account, and move 30 to 70 gigs of files to it, will every user have to have the pro account? I have submitted this question to dropbox - but thought that the advice of users here would also be valuable
