• Domain Trust Issues When Setting Up TFS 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2

  I am trying to setup Team Foundation Server 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 using a single server configuration. During the "Readiness Checks" phase of the configuration wizard, I am facing an issue that i preventing me from communicating with the domain controller (which is Windows Server 2000). [ System Checks ] TF255435: This computer is a member of an Active Directory domain, but the domain controllers are not accessible. Network problems might be preventing access to the domain. Verify that the network is operational, and then retry the readiness checks. Other options include configuring Team Foundation Server specifying a local account in the custom wizard or joining the computer to a workgroup. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=164053&clcid=0x409 After reading the log file, the main issue I am encountering appears to be: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed. (type SystemException) I have read in several other locations that the solution to this issue is to: Leave the domain Restart Join a workgroup Restart Rejoin the domain Unfortunately, I have tried this several times now and the issue persists. Is there anything I can try on the either the client machine or the domain controller that may help solve my issue?

• Can't successfully run Sharepoint Foundation 2010 first time configuration

  I'm trying to run the non-GUI version of configuration wizard using power shell because I would like to set config and admin database names. GUI wizard doesn't give you all possible options for configuration. I run this command: New-SPConfigurationDatabase -DatabaseName "Sharepoint2010Config" -DatabaseServer "developer.pleiado.pri" -AdministrationContentDatabaseName "Sharepoint2010Admin" -DatabaseCredentials (Get-Credential) -Passphrase (ConvertTo-SecureString "%h4r3p0int" -AsPlainText -Force) Of course all these are in the same line. I've broken them down into separate lines to make it easier to read. When I run this command I get this error: New-SPConfigurationDatabase : Cannot connect to database master at SQL server a t developer.pleiado.pri. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it. I'm running: Windows 7 x64 on the machine where Sharepoint Foundation 2010 should be installed and also has preinstalled SQL Server 2008 R2 Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core is my domain controller I've installed Sharepoint according to MS guides http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee554869%28office.14%29.aspx installing all additional patches that are related to my configuration. Any ideas what should I do to make it work?

• SharePoint 2010 User Profile Synchronization

  Hello, I'm completely new to working with SharePoint and Windows Server, but last week I was given a small brief to play with SharePoint 2010 to see how I got along with it. Anyway I've set up a SharePoint server and had a mess around to get some new sites and pages created etc, but I'm now looking to have a try at importing some AD groups. As part of this I've look at these tutorials, here and here. So far I've got through to the process of starting the User Profile Service which works fine, but when I get it starting the User Profile Synchronization service it sits on starting. But when I refresh the page or go to the monitoring section it shows it as aborted. Now I'm new to administering servers like I say and when I start the User Profile Synchronization service it tries to run as NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE and asks for a password so I've been providing it with the admin password, now I'm not sure if this is part of the issue or not as I've checked the log files and they seem to say that it doesn't have permissions, which is fair enough, but I can't see how you can change the account even if I wanted to. So if anyone could help it would be appreciated, if you need any further information to help with an answer, just let me know.

  2010 has been a very good year for me and I wanted to create a list and thank everyone for what they have done for me.  I also wanted to thank everyone for reading and subscribing to my blog. It is hard to believe that people actually want to read what I write. I feel like I owe a huge thanks to everyone listed below. Looking back upon 2010, I feel that I’ve grown as a developer and you are part of that reason. Sometimes we get caught up in day to day work and forget to give thanks to those that helped us along the way. The list below is mine, it includes people and companies. This list is obviously not going to include everyone that has helped, just those that have stood out in my mind. When I think back upon 2010, their names keep popping up in my head. So here goes, in no particular order.  People Dave Campbell – For everything he has done for the Silverlight Community with his Silverlight Cream blog. I can’t think of a better person to get recognition at the Silverlight FireStarter event. I also wanted to thank him for spending several hours of his time helping me track down a bug in my feedburner account. Victor Gaudioso – For his large collection of video tutorials on his blog and the passion and enthusiasm he has for Silverlight. We have talked on the phone and I’ve never met anyone so fired up for Silverlight. Kunal Chowdhury – Kunal has always been available for me to bounce ideas off of. Kunal has also answered a lot of questions that stumped me. His blog and CodeProject article have green a great help to me and the Silverlight Community. Glen Gordon – I was looking frantically for a Windows Phone 7 several months before release and Glen found one for me. This allowed me to start a blog series on the Windows Phone 7 hardware and developing an application from start to finish that Scott Guthrie retweeted.  Jeff Blankenburg – For listening to my complaints in the early stages of Windows Phone 7. Jeff was always very polite and gave me his cell phone number to talk it over. He also walked me through several problems that I was having early on. Pete Brown – For writing Silverlight 4 in Action. This book is definitely a labor of love. I followed Pete on Twitter as he was writing it and he spent a lot of late nights and weekends working on it. I felt a lot smarter after reading it the first time. The second time was even better. John Papa – For all of his work on the Silverlight Firestarter and the Silverlight community in general. He has also helped me on a personal level with several things. Daniel Heisler – For putting up with me the past year while we worked on many .NET projects together in 2010. Alvin Ashcraft – For publishing a daily blog post on the best of .NET links. He has linked to my site many times and I really appreciate what he does for the community. Chris Alcock – For publishing the Morning Brew every weekday. I remember when I first appeared on his site, I started getting hundreds of hits on my site and wondered if I was getting a DOS attack or something. It was great to find out that Chris had linked to one of my articles. Joel Cochran – For spending a week teaching “Blend-O-Rama”. This was my one of my favorite sessions of this year. I learned a lot about Expression Blend from it and the best part was that it was free and during lunchtime. Jeremy Likness – Jeremy is smart – very smart. I have learned a lot from Jeremy over the past year. He is also involved in the Silverlight community in every way possible, from forums to blog post to screencast to open source. It goes on and on. The people that I met at VSLive Orlando 2010. I had a great time chatting with Walt Ritscher, Wallace McClure, Tim Huckabee and David Platt. Also a special thanks to all of my friends on Twitter like @wilhil, @DBVaughan, @DataArtist, @wbm, @DirkStrauss and @rsringeri and many many more. Software Companies / Events / May of gave me FREE stuff. =) Microsoft (3) – I was sent a free coupon code by Microsoft to take the Silverlight 4 Beta Exam. I jumped on the offer and took the exam. It was great being selected to try out the exam before it goes public even though Microsoft eventually published a universal coupon code for everyone. I am still waiting to find out if I passed the exam. My fingers are crossed. Microsoft reaching out to me with some questions regarding the .NET Community. I’ve never had a company contact me with such interest in the community. Having a contest where 75 people could win a $100 gift certificate and a T-Shirt for submitting a Windows Phone 7 app. I submitted my app and won. All of the free launch events this year (Windows Phone 7, Visual Studio 2010, ASP.NET MVC). Wintellect – For providing an awesome day of free technical training called T.E.N. Where else can you get free training from some of the best programmers in the world? I also won a contest from them that included a NETAdvantage Ultimate License from Infragistics. VSLive – I attended the Orlando 2010 Conference and it was the best developer’s conference that I have ever attended. I got to know a lot of people at this conference and hang out with many wonderful speakers. I live tweeted the event and while it may have annoyed some, the organizers of VSLive loved it. I won the contest on Twitter and they invited me back to the 2011 session of my choice. This is a very nice gift and I really appreciate the generosity. BarcodeLib.com – For providing free barcode generating tools for a Non-Profit ASP.NET project that I was working on. Their third party controls really made this a breeze compared to my existing solution. NDepend – It is absolutely the best tool to improve code quality. The product is extremely large and I would recommend heading over to their site to check it out. Silverlight Spy – I was writing a blog post on Silverlight Spy and Koen Zwikstra provided a FREE license to me. If you ever wanted to peek inside of a Silverlight Application then this is the tool for you. He is also working on a version that will support OOB and Windows Phone 7. I would recommend checking out his site. Birmingham .NET Users Group / Silverlight Nights User Group – It takes a lot of time to put together a user group meeting every month yet it always seems to happen. I don’t want to name names for fear of leaving someone out but both of these User Groups are excellent if you live in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Publishing Companies Manning Publishing – For giving me early access to Silverlight 4 in Action by Pete Brown. It was really nice to be able to read this awesome book while Pete was writing it. I was also one of the first people to publish a review of the book. Sams Publishing and DZone – For providing a copy of Silverlight 4 Unleashed by Laurent Bugnion for me to review for their site. The review is coming in January 2011. Special Shoutout to the following 3rd Party Silverlight Controls It has been a great pleasure to work with the following companies on 3rd Party Control Giveaways every month. It always amazes me how every 3rd Party Control company is so eager to help out the community. I’ve never been turned down by any of these companies!   The SpamAssassin 2010 bug was supposed to be fixed not long after the bug became widely known, and indeed the offending rule in my /usr/share/spamassassin/72_active.cf has been updated. However, incoming messages are still being tagged by this eg: X-Spam-Status: No, score=3.188 tagged_above=-999 required=6.31 tests=[BAYES_50=0.001, FH_DATE_PAST_20XX=3.188, SPF_PASS=-0.001] Here is the relevant rule: ##{ FH_DATE_PAST_20XX header FH_DATE_PAST_20XX Date =~ /20[2-9][0-9]/ [if-unset: 2006] describe FH_DATE_PAST_20XX The date is grossly in the future. ##} FH_DATE_PAST_20XX I'm on spamassassin/3.2.5-2+lenny1.1~volatile1 on Debian Lenny, completely up to date. Any pointers on where to look to figure out what's going on? I don't know anything about SpamAssassin; someone else usually manages this but I'm free right now and am trying to figure out what the problem is because it's been annoying us for a while and we only just realized this bug was still affecting us. Update: I've lowered the score for the FH_DATE_PAST20XX rule to 0.1, both in /etc/spamassassin/local.cf and /usr/share/spamassassin/50_scores.cf and it's still giving 3.188 points for this rule. Any idea what's going on? This really has me stumped. Update 2: It seems that after restarting amavisd, it's been fixed. What's the difference between amavisd and spamd? It seems like both should not be running, or something.

  Background I'd like to have Outlook 2010 automatically move e-mails into folders designated by the person's name. For example: Click Rules Click Manage Rules & Alerts Click New Rule Select "Move messages from someone to a folder" Click Next The following dialog is shown: Problem The next part usually looks as follows: Click people or public group Select the desired person Click specified Select the desired folder Question How would you automate those problematic manual tasks? Here's the logic for the new rule I'd like to create: Receive a new message. Extract the name of the sender. If it does not exist, create a new folder under Inbox Move the new message into the folder assigned to that person's name I think this will require a VBA macro. • Change the Default Date setting in Word 2010

  I am using Word 2010 and Windows 7. You know how when you start typing a date in Word it will automatically suggest what it thinks you want? Like if I start typing “6/29”, a little grey bubble will display “6/29/13 (Press ENTER to Insert)”. How do I get it so the bubble will display the year in a 4 digit format, such as "6/29/2013 (Press Enter to Insert)"? The below picture is how it looks when typing a date into Word. I have already gone to the Date & Time option under the Insert menu and the date format that I want is already selected. I think this is only for using quickparts anyway, so the date automatically updates when you open a document. The Region and Language settings under the Control Panel are correct as well. I thought at one point I found it somewhere under options, but I am sure I looked through everything many times and I can’t find it. I posted this exact question at the Microsoft website and someone replied: Go to the Windows Control Panel and click on Clock, Language and Region and then on Change the date, time, or number format and then modify the Short date format so that it is what you want to be used. So please don't suggest this again, because in my question I did say that I already tried this and it doesn't work, at least not for Word, in this situation. Thanks.

• NetApp NDMP backup with BE 2010 R2 works, restore fails

  Hi, I'm having some issues with a new Backup Exec 2010 R2 installation. I configured a NetApp FAS2020 as an NDMP device and want to backup files from the NAS to a tape drive connected to my backup server. I set up ndmpd according to this document (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH48957) and created a separate backup user (http://filers.blogspot.com/2006/09/setting-veritas-netbackup-with-non.html). Backup works perfectly, but restoring any file gives me an authentication failed error. The NDMP device has a "global" ndmp user configured in the device tab (tried this with the newly created ndmpd backup user and the netapp root) and I can also configure separate resource credentials in the BE restore job. I have tried setting the same accounts for the "global" ndmp device and the restore credentials and have also tried setting different accounts for them. NDMP debug level is at 5 and this is what shows up in /etc/messages. The session is closed immediately after it has been granted. 16:12:07 PST [Java_Thread:info]: ndmpdserver: ndmpd.access allowed for version = 4, sessionId = 51, from src ip = 192.168.11.17, dst ip = FAS2020-1/192.168.11.75, src port = 50857, dst port = 10000 16:12:07 PST [Java_Thread:info]: Ndmpd51: ndmpd session closed successfully for version = 4, sessionId = 51, from src ip = 192.168.11.17, dst ip = FAS2020-1/192.168.11.75, src port = 50857, dst port = 10000 Running wireshark on the backup server doesn't produce much. It shows a SYN - SYN/ACK - NDMP CONNECT_CLOSE Request from the backup server. The Resource Credentials for the restore job behave very oddly. If I enter NDMP credentials and do "Test All" it fails. If I use my regular domain backup account, it is successful. There are no failed or succeeded logons in the NetApp ndmp log and tracing this check shows that it doesn't even connect to the NAS. This makes me think that this is more likely flaky BE behaviour rather than misconfiguration of the NAS. • Exchange 2010 remove Arbitration mailbox and mailbox store db

  I have a problem with Exchange 2010 which is a nightmare for me. The problem is, that in Exchange management console i have several store databases in database management tab. only one is mounted, because i am using it. the second one is mounted, but it was used on other server before (now that server is dead). that database mounted status is UNKNOWN. The file of that database does not exist, but it still shows there. I can't remove it from management console, because it has mailboxes. i removed all mailboxes and disabled two arbitrary mailboxes. i can't delete it because i still have one arbitrary mailbox left. i can't move it, because it requires connection to dead server. i can't disable it, because i get error that it is the last one in organization. Can somebody help me? Solved it by using this command: Get-Mailbox -Arbitration -Database db1 | Remove-Mailbox -Arbitration -RemoveLastArbitrationMailboxAllowed Now i have another problem. Exchange management console shows public folder from different server which is dead now. That folder was copied here, but it is not needed anymore. Public folder file has been deleted, and records from ADSI edit has been removed too. But i can't remove that folder from management console. i get an error Exchange isn't able to check for public folder replicas for "My Public Folder Database". Anybody can help me with that?

  If you run Sharepoint 2010 in one forest, users in another forest and a 1-way forest in-place.  There is some additional configuration needed in Sharepoint 2010.  I included links below that discuss the details.  My post is not to be in-depth how to setup, rather share a tidbit not discussed in documentation (not that I could find).  Thanks to a smart co-worker and process monitor, it was found there is a registry entry, the application pool needs READ access.  You can either manually grant permissions on the server or add registry permission in AD Group Policy.  Hope this helps. • Conditionally Rewrite Email Headers (From & Reply-To) Exchange 2010

  I have a client who maintains Company A (with email addresses %username%@companyA.com) and they own the domain companyB.com however there is no "infrastructure" (no Exchange server) set up specifically for companyB.com. My client needs to be able to have the end users within it's company (companyA.com) add a specific word or phrase to the Subject (or Body) line of the Outgoing email (they are only concerned with outgoing, incoming is a non-issue in this case) that triggers the Exchange 2010 servers to rewrite the header From and Reply-To [email protected] with [email protected] but this re-write should ONLY occur if the user places the key word/phrase in the Subject (or Body). I have attempted using Transport Rules and the New-AddressRewriteEntry cmdlet however each seems to have a limitation. From what I can tell Transport Rules cannot re-write the From/Reply-To fields and New-AddressRewriteEntry cannot be conditionally triggered based on message content. So to recap: User sends email outside the organization: From and Reply-To remain [email protected] User sends email outside the organization WITH "KeyWord" in the Subject or Body: From and Reply-To change to [email protected] automatically. Anyone know how this could be done WITHOUT coding a new Mail Agent? I don't have the programming knowledge to code a custom Agent... I can use any function of Exchange Management Shell or Console. Alternatively if anyone knows of a simple add-on program that could do this that would be good too. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!

• VT-x not enabled on 2010 Mac Pro

  To start I had a Hackintosh as per the instructions from Lifehacker.com before and moved everything to a new 2010 8 Core Mac Pro. I opted for a restore from the time machine backup rather than using the migration assistance. I believe this may have caused more problems but one in particular is the lack of VT-x support. When I checked Parallels Desktop under "Host Hardware" information, I get the following that shows that VT-x isn't enabled. <Cpu dyn_lists=""> <Number>16</Number> <Model>Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz</Model> <Mode>1</Mode> <Speed>2400</Speed> <VtxEnabled>0</VtxEnabled> <VtxMode>1</VtxMode> 1) Does Parallels Desktop support using VT-x? 2) Does this setting show that my VT-x isn't enabled? 3) Is there a way of fixing it so that it is enabled? 4) Is there a way of using my Time Machine backup as if I'm doing a restore using migration assistance and just restore the files and settings?

• Do you have to recreate workspaces after upgrading a TFS 2008 server to TFS 2010?

  I am just reposting this thread from a MSDN forum since it seems to be unavailable. It was very useful when I was having trouble with my folder mappings after migrating to TFS 2010. Question: I opened VS2008 and connected it to the upgraded 2010 TFS server.  Upon clicking any of our Team Projects in source control explorer I get "Team Foundation Error - The workspace MYWORKSPACE;DOMAIN\MYUsername already exists on computer MYPCNAME." Answer: The same local paths on your machine are mapped to 2 different workspaces, one on the preupgrade server and one on the postupgrade server.  It's not safe to have multiple workspaces on different servers mapped to the same local paths b/c you could pend some changes while connected to one server, and the other server would have no idea what you did.  You should either delete your conflicting workspaces from one of the servers (if you don't need them on both), or test the new TFS instance from a new workspace (on different machine). If you want to test an existing production workspace on both servers, then yes, you will have to mess around with the workspace cache. You don’t have to delete the entire cache, you just need to run "tf workspaces /remove:* /server:<serverurl>" to clear the cached workspaces from a server (the command won't delete the workspaces), and possibly "tf workspaces /server:<server>" to refresh the workspace cache for a given server.  You will also have to do back up and restore the workspace before switching servers or your local files could be inconsistent.
