  • Issue Creating SQL Login for AppPoolIdentity on Windows Server 2008

    IIS7 introduced the option to run your application pool as AppPoolIdentity. With the release of IIS7.5, AppPoolIdentity was promoted to the default option.  You see this change if you’re running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.  On my Windows 7 machine, I’m able to define my Application Pool Identity and then create an associated database login via the SQL Server Management Studio interface.  No problem.  However, I ran into some troubles when recently installing my web application onto a Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit machine.  Strange, but the same approach failed as SSMS couldn’t find the AppPoolIdentity user.  Instead of using the tools, I created and executed the login via script and it worked fine.  Here’s the script, based off of the DefaultAppPool identity, if the same happens to you: CREATE LOGIN [IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool] FROM WINDOWS WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE=[master] USE [Chinook] CREATE USER [IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool] FOR LOGIN [IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool]

    I had asked a similar question on stackoverflow but didn't really get anywhere. This page shows the output that I'm currently getting from my MSSQL server. I have a table of venue information (name, address, etc...) that our events happen on. Separately, I have a table of the actual events that are scheduled (an event may happen multiple times in one day and/or over multiple days).   • Using Sql Server Change Data Capture with a frequently changing schema

    We are looking into enabling Sql Server Change Data Capture for a new subsystem we are building. It's not really because we need it, but we are being pushed for having a complete history traceability, and CDC would nicely solve this requirement with minimum effort on our parts. We are following an agile development process, which in this case means that we frequently make changes to the database schema, e.g. adding new columns, moving data to other columns, etc. We did a small test where we created a table, enabled CDC for that table, and then added a new column to the table. Changes to the new column is not registered in the CDC table. Is there a mechanism to update the CDC table to the new schema, and are there any best practices to how you deal with captured data when migrating the database schema?

    In several of my programming courses in the University, my teachers always told me the following: A function and a procedure are basically the same thing: the only difference is that a function returns a value, and the procedure doesn't. That means that this: function sum($a, $b) { return $a + $b; } ... is a function, and this: function sum($a, $b) { echo $a + $b; } ... is a procedure. In the same train of thought, I've seen that a method is the equivalent of a function in the OOP world.     I am trying to install PrestaShop 1.4.0.17, and reach Step 3. I enter database information, which tests okay, and I choose the second option: Full mode: includes 100+ additional modules and demo products (FREE too!).     I have an issue with Visual C++ and Microsoft SQL Server 2008R2. The following code will occasionally hang: Object->Update(); if(Object->CanRestart()) { //Why does this not return?? m_pDBRoRBaseObject->Requery(); } Object is derived from CRecordset. It looks to me as though a call to ::SQLExecute(m_hstmt) in the Requery() method is hanging, but I can't (with my current skill set anyway) figure out a way around this. Has anyone had a similar problem, or an insight of any sort?

    I have a domain installed on virtual Windows Server 2008 x64. SQL Server 2008 Express x64 is running in Windows Server 2008 x64 and client on Windows 7 RTM x86. Both are into the domain. I'm starting both Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio 2008 under domain admin user. This account is a member of group sysadmin on SQL Server. Server has firewall exceptions for both TCP and UDP on ports 135-139 and 1433-1434. Visual Studio 2008 Remote debugger services is started on server and Domain Admins group is allowed to debug, When I'm starting debugging of a query in SMS I'm getting this error: Failed to start debugger Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.   • SQL Server Agent was not running on Server Dynamics CRM 2013

    I'm trying to install Dynamics CRM 2013 on a server. This server is on a VM. There are several other VMs, an ADDS & DNS, a MSSQL and a WebServer VM. Each server is a Windows Server 2012 R2. The SQL Server is 2012 Enterprise. Each VM is part of the main Domain, set by the ADDS & DNS. NSLookup confirms I can see the computer at the right IP address. Each separate VM has its own static IP, the DNS is set to the ADDS & DNS. I use the domain administrator to log into all the servers, and make the that domain administrator a local administrator. I've set up all the domain users for the CRM and gave them appropriate permissions, I have also added the accounts to the appropriate places, such that the CRM Deployment user is in the SQL security. The SQL Agent is running. SQL server configuration manager has SQL server network configuration TCP/IP enabled to allow remote connections. The SQL server has the domain user as a administrator, which is the same user being used to install the CRM. In the CRM setup i point to the [Servername]\[Instance] and I have also tried just the [Servername]. to make this easier I called the server MSSQL and left the instance name to the default. I even install the MSSQL instance as the domain administrator. CRM can find the ReportServer url. I have enable all the ports required, including: 135, 1433, 1434, 2382, 2383, 4022. 1434 UDP. I feel like I have absolutely done everything, I have google many times and tried all the different methods, and for the life of me I cant seem to get the CRM setup to find the SQL server agent. It passes everything else perfectly fine. I can even ping the MSSQL server. What is the problem, why does the CRM still keep giving the error: SQLSERVERAGENT (SQLSERVERAGENT) service is not running on the server MSSQL On the MSSQL server, the name of the sql server agent service is: SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)
