  • Searching for a track on iTunes

    I'd like to search for tracks on iTunes using a Python script on Mac OS/X. I found a way to access the iTunes application through: iTunes = SBApplication.applicationWithBundleIdentifier_("com.apple.iTunes") but I haven't figured out (yet) the way to perform searches. A little help appreciated. Disclaimer: OS/X newbie here.

  • Fixing VB6 inaccurate mathmetical results due to rounding

    Try running this in a .VBS file MsgBox(545.14-544.94) You get a neat little answer of 0.199999999999932! This rounding issue also occurs unfortunately in Sin(2 * pi) since VB can only ever see the (user defined) variable pi as accurate as 3.14159265358979. Is rounding it manually (and loosing accuracy) the only way to improve the result? What is the most effective way of dealing with this kind of problem?

  • Where has MS Charting gone in .NET 4.0?

    Forgive me for being a little naive perhaps, but it seems that System.Windows.Controls.DataVisualization.Charting has vanished from VS2010, and blend 4. I'm trying to make a bar graph with a line overlayed, but can't even get started because I can't find the appropriate controls. I know I could use an external graphing package, but I'd like to try the inbuilt controls first.

I don't need that complex of FTP interaction. Its just the typical create/delete dirs, upload/download files... What do you recommend?

    Hi, is it legal to remove the logo/terms of use link displayed on my integrated google map (google maps premier)? The problem is that when I zoom into the map, the link tends to get longer and loger and overlays the whole website which is pretty ugly. Of course it is possible to give the div container a "overflow: hidden;" flag which helps a little. But it is still not satisfying. Thx

    From the perspective of an end user, what makes a software great rather than just good or functional? What are some fundamental principles that can shift the way a software is used and perceived? What are some of the little finishing touches that help put an application over the top? I'm in the later stages of developing a web app and I'm looking for ideas or concepts that I may have missed. If you have specific examples of software or apps that you absolutely love, please share the reasons or features that make it special. Keep in mind that I'm looking for examples that directly affect the end user, but not necessarily just UI suggestions. Here are some of the principles and little touches I'm trying to use: Keep the UI as simple as possible. Remove absolutely everything that isn't necessary. Use progressive disclosure when more information can be needed sometimes but isn't needed all the time. Provide inline help and useful error messages. Verbs on buttons wherever possible. Make anything that's clickable obvious. Fast, responsive UI. Accessibility (this is a work in progress). Reusable UI patterns. Once a user learns a skill, they will be able to use it in multiple places. Intelligent default settings. Auto-focusing forms when filling out the form is the primary action to be taken on the page. Clear metaphors (like tabs) and headings indicating location within the app. Automating repetitive tasks (with the ability to disable the automation). Use standardized or accepted metaphors for icons (like an "x" for delete). Larger text sizes for improved readability. High contrast so that each section is distinct. Making sure that it's obvious on every page what the user is supposed to do by establishing a clear information hierarchy and drawing the eye to the call to action. Most deletions can be undone. Discoverability - Make it easy to learn how to do new tasks. Group similar elements together.

    Hallo, first I want to say that I hope this doesn't look like I am lazy but I have some trouble understanding a piece of code from the following project. http://kigg.codeplex.com/ I was going through the source code and I noticed something that would be usefull for my own little project I am making. In their BaseController they have the following code: private static readonly Type CurrentUserKey = typeof(IUser); public IUser CurrentUser { get { if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(CurrentUserName)) { IUser user = HttpContext.Items[CurrentUserKey] as IUser; if (user == null) { user = AccountRepository.FindByClaim(CurrentUserName); if (user != null) { HttpContext.Items[CurrentUserKey] = user; } } return user; } return null; } } This isn't an exact copy of the code I adjusted it a little to my needs. This part of the code I still understand. They store their IUser in HttpContext.Items. I guess they do it so that they don't have to call the database eachtime they need the User object. The part that I don't understand is how they maintain this object in between requests. If I understand correctly the HttpContext.Items is a per request cache storage. I think they use Unity to do some dependency injection on each request? In my project I am using Ninject and I am wondering how I can get the same result. I guess InRequestScope in Ninject is the same as UnityPerWebRequestLifetimeManager? I am also wondering which class/method they are binding to which interface? Since the HttpContext.Items get destroyed each request how do they prevent losing their user object? Anyway it's kinda a long question so I am gradefull for any push in the right direction.     I'd like to script p4 a little. Unfortunately, some of the filenames that we're tracking have "@" in the filename. The filenames are in the form [email protected]. If I try to do something like p4 sync a\@b.xml on a mac (or p4 sync [email protected] on windows) it gives the error: Invalid changelist/client/label/date '@b.xml' Is there another way to escape it that perforce will recognize?

He told me to use this method as a constructor. Which I did: CCard::CCard() { m_Sperre = false; m_Guthaben = rand() % 1000; /* Work */ /* Convert them */ ssPIN >> m_Geheimzahl; ssBN >> m_Nummer; } All variables with m_ are member variables. However, the constructor works when I initialize the card normally CCard card(); at the start of the program. However, I also have a function, that is supposed to create a new card and return it to the user, this function is now broken. The original command: card = newCard(); isn't available anymore, and card = new CCard(); doesn't work. What other options do I have? I have a feeling using the constructor won't work, and that I probably should just create a class method newCard, but I want to see if it is somehow at all possible to do it the way the teacher wanted. This is creating a lot of headaches for me. I told the teacher that this is a stupid idea and not everything has to be classed in OOP. He has since told me that Java or C# don't allow code outside of classes, which sounds a little incredible. Not sure that you can do this in C++, especially when templated functions exist, or generic algorithms. Is it true that this would be bad code for OOP in C++ if I didn't force it into a class?
