• Build Advise for Home Web/NAS Server with Ubuntu Server 12.04 [closed]

  I need to have a personal Webserver with NAS capabilities. The Webserver to test some LAMP projects I develop for clients, and also NAS to be able to stream media to local network. I want to have full control of the box, so I'm planning to build it with some spare parts and Ubuntu Server. The services/software that will run are (remember, is for personal and testing use only): SAMBA/CIFS SSH Server Apache 2 MySQL 5 Mercurial Repo PHP 5.3 Ruby on Rails OwnCloud Dovecot Webmin Postfix PureFTPd ClamAV The Hardware: Intel Dual Core E2180 2.0 GHz MSI P35 Neo Kinkston 1GB DDR2, 667 MSI Nvidia 7300le PCIe x16 256mb RAM HDD SATA WD Green 2TB x2 (RAID-1 with MDADM RAID Controller) 16 GB USB Pendrive (For server system installation) My idea is to build this system, using the pendrive for the Ubuntu Server software, and packages, and the RAID-1 for gross data storage. • How does one switch tracks in Windows 8.1's XBox Music app?

  XBox Music Now Playing In the XBox Music app (both app and Windows completely updated) I tried playing a folder full of MP3s from a USB HDD. In the screenshot above the track Sometimes is currently playing (indicated by the small green spectrum analyzer icon to the left). Now suppose I want to start playing the sixth track So Hard, how do I do it without pressing the Next Track button five times? Double-clicking (using touch) doesn't work and selecting the track by swiping left or right doesn't show any Play Now option in the bar that pops up from the bottom. Cannot believe the default music player app is so bad! :o

• Can't get sync with SVN to work to put a directory under version control

  I've created a directory on our SVN server and added a local directory with my project to it. It got uploaded and seems to be OK. However, I didn't get those cute green (or any others) icons on the file. So I clicked on the project's directory and used "checkout". That wasn't good because I've downloaded ALL of the repository. How can I synchronize my uploaded directory with it's corresponding directory on the server? (It's probably something easy that I've forgot to check in or so...)

• NVidia raid 5 array spooling sounds and delay

  I've had a raid 5 array setup with 3 2TB WD Green drives for about 3 years now. Starting last week, when I would access the array for the first time, I hear a loud drive spooling sound and experience a ~5 second delay before being able to access\save files. This behavior happens when I don't use the array for some time (about an hour) and after occurring it doesn't happen again if I continue to access the array. I've run SMART scans on all drives and they come back as being a-ok. What's causing this? Is my array getting close to death?

• How do I force Windows to play sound through the speakers only when a USB headset isn't connected?

  I'm using a speaker set connected through the green audio jack and a headset which I connect through USB. My problem is that every time I connect/disconnect my headset, I have to go through a lot of settings/restart some programs to make the sound go through the speakers again. What I want is to have audio play through the headset when it's connected, but if I disconnect the headset, I want the audio to automatically play through the speakers. For example, if I connect/disconnect the headset while listening to music, I have to restart the application to make the music play through the correct speaker/headset, and it shouldn't be that inconvenient. (I found this somewhat relevant topic, but the problem is that it doesn't really give an answer. (Also, it is 2 years old.))

• My images look desaturated and brighter on the iPhone than on my Mac (in PS, Pixelmator & Finder)

  I save my image in Photoshop (No Color management). I put it on the iPhone and it looks brighter and desaturated. Also my blue-green looks more like blue. I have tried some color profiles on the net: http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38121 http://www.colorwiki.com/wiki/Color_on_iPhone But the images still look different. I'm going insane with this because its stealing my time away and i can't fix it. Every bit of help would be appreciated! Do I have to create my own profile? Is there an easy way??

• Can't boot into my Windows 7 64-bit Acer laptop

  Boot normally -- it hangs on "Starting Windows" animation forever. Boot safe mode -- it bluescreens. Boot with a recovery CD (or try Repair Installation directly without a CD) -- it hangs on the green loading bar forever. I dual-boot Ubuntu and can get into the Ubuntu partition fine so I don't think anything is necessarily wrong with the harddrive, but the Ubuntu partition is tiny and I rarely use it and can't access my Windows files anyway. Is there anything I can try that'll help repair whatever happened? I just want to run a checkdisk utility or something similar that'll repair whatever got botched. • My Computer will not turn on?

  I recently built a gaming pc. It was working fine before the following events: I installed a graphics card driver update then: in windows it said that the user experience index needed to be refreshed, so i started the test and somewhere in the middle of the test my pc just switched off. No shutting down just stopped. Now it won't turn back on. I have checked its plugged in and the switch on psu is down, i tried a different power cable and i checked all the connections. When i press the power button nothing happens, no fans no lights no post beep. • Sony Vaio Sleep Mode

  I have a problem with the sleep mode on Sony Vaio F Series and Windows 7 x64. If I wake it up by opening the lid and pressing power button everything works fine. However, if I wake it up on some other way (e.g. move the mouse), power light turns green and fan starts spinning, but LCD is dark and I cannot use keyboard (well, actually there is no sign that anyting works). Only thing I can do is to reboot it by pressing power button. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

• Xubuntu Terminal overrides shell- and vi color schemes, how to deactivate?

  I'm running an up-to-tade Xubuntu and have a real problem with these Terminals. I don't want them to be all that design-ish. Just the plain old Terminal with a black background and green text. And in VIM I want to use my own color scheme. But the xfce-4-terminal doesn't seem to let me do that. It always uses it's own color schemes and they just don't work for all cases (you have like 6 different types of text elements to color, for coding you need more). How can I disable the coloring in the terminal or just load a simple one without all these features?

  I would like to create a couple of short cuts on my iMac which ssh on to my dev box and on to my prod box. I would like my dev connection to use the settings something similar to home-brew (green text black background) and my prod connection to use red text black background) - How can this be configured so that this is possible. Would I need multiple bashrc files one for prod and one for dev and source individually? If this is the case, how can i get the profiles to be sources as soon as i double click the shortcuts? Thanks

• Windows hangs on startup

  I got in to work this week to find four windows xp computers all having the same problem - they are all hanging on the windows loading screen (the one with the logo and the green progress bar). The only thing I could think that would cause this to happen on all of them at the same time are bad windows updates. Can anyone shed some light? Edit: some further details: CAN get to safe mode. System restore DOESN'T help. HDDs are ok. All were working fine last week.

• How to read from path in wpf comboboxitem and write into path of binding

  Hi, I tried to make up an example to show my problem. My combobox has a list of objects as itemssource. In my example it's a list of Persons. In the combobox i want to show the first name and the last name of the person. But i want to save the last name of the person in the "owner" property of the house-object. My guess was that i bind the SelectedValue to my property and the SelectedValuePath to the name of the property in the comboboxitem. I already googled and tried a view other versions but nothing worked. If i use SelectedItem instead of SelectedValue with the same binding at least the value of the "tostring" function get's written in the property. Sadly that solution doesn't fit in the Rest of my Program because i don't want to override "ToString". • OpenGL/SharpGL - Points only on -near surface of Ortho projection?

  When you create points using three dimensions for each point and you use an Ortho projection to view the points, would there be a reason that only the points on the -near surface would appear? For example, if you use (the SharpGL method) gl.Ortho(0, width, height, 0, -10, 10), only the points at z=10 (because the near surface is at -10) actually show up. I'm currently using SharpGL - but I'm hoping the issue I'm having isn't with that particular implementation/library. EDIT: I'm adding the code below that demonstrates the issue. Note that this example requires SharpGL and is in fact a modification of a WPF sample project that comes with the current SharpGL source code (the original sample project is called TwoDSample). The project requires a MainWindow.xaml and a MainWindow.xaml.cs. • Problem receving in RXTX

  I've been using RXTX for about a year now, without too many problems. I just started a new program to interact with a new piece of hardware, so I reused the connect() method I've used on my other projects, but I have a weird problem I've never seen before. The Problem The device works fine, because when I connect with hyperterminal, I send things and receive what I expect, and Serial Port Monitor(SPM) reflects this. However, when I run the simple hyperterminal-clone I wrote to diagnose the problem I'm having with my main app, bytes are sent, according to SPM, but nothing is received, and my SerialPortEventListener never fires. Even when I check for available data in the main loop, reader.ready() returns false. If I ignore this check, then I get an exception, details below. Edit: something interesting When I open hyperterminal after sending a bunch of commands from java that should have gotten responses, all of the responses appear immediately, as if they had been put in the buffer somewhere, but unavailable. Edit 2: Tried something new, same results I ran the code example found here, with the same results. No data came in, but when I switched to a new program, it came all at once. Edit 3 The hardware is fine, and even a different computer has the same problem. I am not using any sort of USB adapter. I've started using PortMon, too, and it's giving me some interesting results. Hyperterminal and RXTX are not using the same settings, and RXTX always polls the port, unlike HyperTerminal, but I still can't see what settings would affect this. As soon as I can isolate the configuration from the constant polling, I'll post my PortMon logs. Edit 4 Is it possible that some sort of Windows update in the last 3 months could have caused this? It has screwed up one of my MATLAB mex-based programs once. Edit 5 I've also noticed some things that are different between HyperTerminal, RXTX, and a separate program I found that communicates with the device (but doesn't do what I want, which is why I'm rolling my own program) HyperTerminal - set to no flow control, but Serial Port Monitor's RTS and DTR indicators are green Other program - not sure what settings it thinks it's using, but only SPM's RTS indicator is green RXTX - no matter what flow control I set, only SPM's CTS and DTR indicators are on. • Writing an Iron Python debugger

  As a learning exercise I'm writing myself a simple extension / plugin / macro framework using IronPython - I've gotten the basics working but I'd like to add some basic debugging support to make my script editor easier to work with. I've been hunting around on the internet a bit and I've found a couple of good resources on writing managed debuggers (including Mike Stall's excellent .Net Debugging blog and the MSDN documentaiton on the CLR Debugging API) - I understand that IronPython is essentially IL however apart from that I'm a tad lost on how to get started, in particular: Are there any significant differences between debugging a dynamic language (such as IronPython) to a static one (such as C#)? Do I need to execute my script in a special way to get IronPython to output suitable debugging information? Is debugging a script running inside the current process going to cause deadlocks, or does IronPython execute my script in a child process? Am I better off looking into how to produce a simple C# debugger first to get the general idea? (I'm not interested in the GUI aspect of making a debugger for now - I've already got a pretty good idea of how this might work)

  I'm having trouble selecting a subset of data with doctrine. I have 3 tables Location Contact Contact_location The contact and location tables hold a name and an id the other table holds only ID's. For instance: Location loc_id: 1 name: detroit Contact contact_id: 1 name: Mike Contact_location loc_id: 1 contact_id: 1 In doctrine there is a many to many relation between the location and contact tables with contact_location as the ref_class. What i want to do is on my location page i want to find all contacts where for instance the loc_id = 1. I tried: $this->installedbases = Doctrine::getTable('contact')->findByloc_id(1); hoping doctrine would see the relation and get it, but it does not. How can i make doctrine search in relevant related tables? I read it can be done using Findby but i find the documentation unclear.

• Grafting Scala 2.8 into a Netbeans NBAndroid Project...What steps am I missing?

  Hi All; Due to Apple's recent T+C hijinks, I've become interested in developing for Android. Anyways, I'm trying to get a mixed-language Android 2.1 project going in Netbeans 6.8 (with the NBAndroid 0.10 plugin). The two languages being Java and Scala(2.8 head build). To give you a basic idea of what the app does right now, it's just a simple "Hello World" app. To get this to build, I've modified the projects's build.xml file: -- -injars ${scala-library}(!META-INF/MANIFEST.MF,!library.properties) -outjars "${build.classes.dir}/classes.min.jar" -libraryjars "${file.reference.android.jar}" -dontwarn -dontoptimize -dontobfuscate -keep public class * extends android.app.Activity -keep public class scala.xml.include.sax.Main** I've gotten the project so that it'll build, but it errors on startup in my Android Emulator(inside the emulator Android tells me my application has stopped unexpectedly). Thanks, Mike Background information: I'm doing this because the original source code came with a VS project designed to compile as a static (.lib) library. In order to use ctypes/Python, I'm converting the project to a DLL. I started a VS project as a DLL and imported the original source code. The project builds into a DLL, but none of the functions (including functions such as the one listed above) are exported (as confirmed by both the absence of dllexport in the source code and tools such as DLL Export Viewer). I tried to follow the general advice here (create an exportable wrapper function within the header) to no avail...functions still don't appear to be exported.
