• Oracle Usability Advisory Board, Europe

  Earlier this month, I attended the first Oracle Usability Advisory Board meeting in Europe (held in Oracle's big campus in Thames Valley Park, Reading, in the UK). My main interest here of of course was to listen to customer's experiences and requirements in the area of user experience, focusing in on user assistance natch, but also, given my background in the translation and internationalization world, to watch out for issues in those areas that impact on the UX. I met some great people there and took away some powerful UX thoughts about where might go with the area of language in the UI, localizations, and other cultural issues. One area of special interest to me is language as part of the user experience. By language I mean terminology and style of wordings you see in interfaces and help. Are they reflective of how people really work and are used to. What is its relationship to competitiveness and productivity. An area rich in research potential for UX. • A simple deployment example using Oracle Solaris 11

  Last week I was over in Melbourne and Sydney to present at an Oracle Technology Network System Administration Day. During a set of morning sessions, I presented on some of the new things that we've done in Oracle Solaris 11 and our focus for the future. One of the sessions I presented was giving a quick technical overview of what a typical application deployment scenario would look like using technologies like the Image Packaging System (IPS), Service Management Facility (SMF), Oracle Solaris Zones, and network virtualization. While it's just a simple example, it provides the basic building blocks for a more advanced configuration that a data center would typically deploy. Given these would likely be of general interest, I thought I'd upload the slides for others to view - enjoy!   Projects Support has a published document with a consolidated listing of mandatory code and data fixes for Project Costing.  Generic Data Fix (GDF) patches are created by development to fix data issues caused by bugs/issues in the application code.  The GDF patches are released for download via My Oracle Support which are then referenced in My Oracle Support documents and by support to provide data fixes for known code fix issues.Consolidated root cause code fix and generic data fix patches will be superceded whenever any new version is created.  These patches fix a number of critical code and data issues identified in the Project Costing flow.This document contains a consolidated list of code and data fixes for Project Costing.  The note lists the following details: Note ID Component Type (code or data) Abstract Patch Visit DocID 1538822.1 today!

• Leviton Manufacturing Upgrades to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1

  Leviton Manufacturing is a global manufacturer of electrical wiring devices, data center connectivity solutions, and lighting energy mgmt systems. It's portfolio consists of more than 25,000 devices and systems used in homes, business, and industry. Leviton upgraded to the latest version of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 to support its service business with change management, purchasing, accounts payable, and an internal IT help desk. They consolidated seven Web sites that are used to host individually onto iStore. In addition, they run a site, using the Oracle E-Business Suite configurator, pricing and quoting for their sales agents to do configuration work. This site can now generate a complete sales proposal using Oracle functionality.
