• Avoiding Duplicate Data in DB (for use with Rails)

  I have five tables that I am trying to get to work nicely together but may need some help. I have three main tables: accounts members and roles. With two join tables account_members and account_member_roles. The accounts and members table are joined by account_members (fk account_id and member_id) table. The other 2 tables are the problem (roles and account_member_roles). A member of an account can have more than one role and I have the account_member_roles (fk account_member_id and role_id) table joining the account_members join table and the roles table. That seems logical but can you have a relationship with a join table? What I'd like to be able to do is when creaeting an account, for instance, I would like @account.save to include the roles and update the account_member_roles table neatly ..... but through the account_members join table. I've tried ..... accept_nested_attributes_for :members, :account_member_roles in the account.rb but I get ..... ActiveRecord::HasManyThroughCantAssociateThroughHasManyReflection (Cannot modify association 'Account#account_member_roles' because the source reflection class 'AccountMemberRole' is associated to 'AccountMember' via :has_many.) upon trying to save a record. Any advice on how I should approach this? CIA -ants

  I have a classroom application,and a follow relation. Users can follow each other and can create classrooms.When a user creates a classroom, he can invite only the people that are following him. • J2ME cache issue

  I have to write a J2ME app to retrieve images from server and display in mobile phone. I have seen and test that Snaptu have a mechanism to cache image, event with 100 images (both normal size and zoom size). I wonder how they can do that? I though that those guys use rms to save image stream to data. But when i check in working folder of simulater( I use Windows XP and Sun Wireless Toolkit 3.0, the Emulator device i use to run my program is CLDC Device 1 - my working folder is C:\Document And Settings\Administrator\javame-sdk\3.0\work\6\appdb), i see some .db file. When i delete these files, i still can view cache image in my emulator???? I also thought that those guys use heap memory to save image. But it is not correct because when i set limit device memory is 2MB (like some mobile phones), and i load and view 100 images in zoom size, it didn't make OutOfMemory Error? It so weird. Any one can help me? Thanks

• What is the best way to auto-generate INSERT statements for a SQL Server table?

  We are writing a new application, and while testing, we will need a bunch of dummy data. I've added that data by using MS Access to dump excel files into the relevant tables. Every so often, we want to "refresh" the relevant tables, which means dropping them all, re-creating them, and running a saved MS Access append query. The first part (dropping & re-creating) is an easy sql script, but the last part makes me cringe. I want a single setup script that has a bunch of INSERTs to regenerate the dummy data. I have the data in the tables now. What is the best way to automatically generate a big list of INSERT statements from that dataset? I'm thinking of something like in TOAD (for Oracle) where you can right-click on a grid and click Save As-Insert Statements, and it will just dump a big sql script wherever you want. The only way I can think of doing it is to save the table to an excel sheet and then write an excel formula to create an INSERT for every row, which is surely not the best way. I'm using the 2008 Management Studio to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database.

• Zend Sessions problem with IE8

  I'm running a Zend Framework powered website and it seems to have serious problems with sessions. I have a 5 step process where I save the form data in the session between the steps and then save it into the database on the last step. When we built the site sometimes the session just went away and forced us to restart. Now it seems to work again but recently we discovered an issue with Internet Explorer 8. It fails between step 2 - 3 and forgets the session. It works fine in IE6, IE7, FF, Chrome, Safari and even in my mobile web browser (SE P1). We're storing our sessions in the database and if I deactivate the session db handler it works. What's the difference between using the database and not using it for sessions? Do I loose something if I switch back? • Datagridview Winforms Add or Delete Rows in Edit Mode with Collection Binding

  In my datagridview, I bind a List of objects named 'ProductLine'. But unfortunately with this approach I cannot 'Add' or 'Delete' rows to the datagridview in edit mode. When I create a fresh new order I can Add or Delete rows but once I save it and try to open it in Edit then it doesn't let me 'Add' or 'Delete' (via keyboard). Any idea?   TLDR How could I tell "page.html" which one of 3 or so cookies to look at when the cookie is set on the previous page? Currently: When a link is clicked save text of link to cookie When "page.html" is loaded get the value of the cookie Loads the getjson call as per value of the cookie. E.g: <a href="page.html">link1</a> -c1 <a href="page.html">link2</a> -c2 <a href="page.html">link3</a> -c3 See previous discussion here Now that is all good and well apart from the fact if I were to say open them in multiple tabs. It changes the cookie and correctly loads the right data. But if I were to refresh one of these tabs it will load the most recently open data rather than what it should be. So if I were to save a cookie as c1 with a value of link1 c2 with a value of link2 c3 with a value of link3 How could I tell "page.html" which cookie it should be looking at, therefore not breaking the back/forward/refresh buttons on the browser when multiple tabs are open?

When I introduced the above statement which contains ContactDataContext, I got the following error "In assembly ... PublicKeyToken=null' is not marked as serializable" It's clear that the DataContext class is generated by the framework (). I checked and did not see where that class was marked serialize. What can I do to overcome that? What's the rule when I'm not the author of a class? Just go ahead and mark the DataContext class as serializable, and pretend that everything will work? • In what order does DOJO handles ajax requests?

  Hi, Using a form in a dialog box I am using Dojo in jsp to save the form in my database. After that request is completed using dojo.xhrPost() I am sending in another request to update a dropdown box that should include the added form object that was just saved, but for some reason the request to update the dropdown is executed before saving the form in the database even though the form save is called first. Using Firebug I can see that the getLocations() request is completed before the sendForm() request. • iPhone code to create new NSUserDefaults objects?

  I have NSUserDefaults storing a number of string variables for things like name, date of birth, address, etc. What I would like to know is how to write a code that will create a new object for each new user. For example, I have a spinning wheel that shows up immediately after the first time the user runs the app. What I want, is for that wheel to have one single option - "New User". Once that New User fills out a bunch of text fields that I am using NSUserDefaults to save, I want that user to be saved on that spinning wheel so that the next time they open up the app they have the option of returning to all of the variables that they previously put in, or creating a new user so they can input all new variables. I know how to do everything except write the code to create new users automatically. Potentially, the program should allow for a limitless number of these user objects and then just use something arbitrary like their last name to input into the spinning wheel. I would assume that the code would need to be put somewhere in the following code used to save the NSUserDefaults: NSUserDefaults *userData = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [userData setObject:txtName.text forKey:@"name"];

• C#.NET DataGridView - update database

  I know this is a basic function of the DataGridView, but for some reason, I just can't get it to work. I just want the DataGridView on my Windows form to submit any changes made to it to the database when the user clicks the "Save" button. On form load, I populate the DataGridView and that's working fine. Now ruleTableDA.Update(dt) is throwing the exception "Concurrency violation: the UpdateCommand affected 0 of the expected 1 records." Thanks very much!

• How to convert a printer driver to a stand-alone console application which can generate a printer fi

  I have a situation where the only way to generate a certain datafile is to print it manually to FILE: under Windows and save it in a file for further processing. I would really like to have a small stand-alone program which embeds this binary printer driver so I can run it from a batch file and have it generate that binary file for me, as we can then fully automate the "save file in Visio, 'print' it and upload it to the final destination and trigger a remote test". Is this possible with a suitable Windows SDK? I am a Java programmer, so I do not know Visual Studio and the possibilities with MSDN - yet! - but I'd appreciate pointers. EDIT: I have the installation files for that printer driver, both 32 and 64 bit. Older versions may include a 16 bit driver. EDIT: The "print to FILE:" functionality is just what was recommended by the documentation. I have played a little bit with using the LPR-protocol to see what it can do. I'd still prefer the "invoke small binary" approach.

• Open XML document ContentControls problem with signed id's

  I have an application that generates Open XML documents with Content Controls. To create a new Content Control I use Interop and the method ContentControls.Add. This method returns an instance of the added Content Control. I have some logic that saves the id of the Content Control to reference it later, but in some computers I've been having a weird problem. When I access the ID property of the Content Control I just created, it returns a string with the numeric id, the problem is that when this value is too big, after I save the document, if I look through the document.xml in the generated document, the <w:id/> element of the <w:sdtPr/> element has a negative value, that is the signed equivalent of the value I got from the Id property of the generated control. For example: var contentControl = ContentControls.Add(...); var contentControlId = contentControl.ID; // the value of contentControlId is "3440157266" If I save the document and open it in the Package Explorer, the Id of the Content Control is "-854810030" instead of "3440157266". What have I figured out is this: ((int)uint.Parse("3440157266")).ToString() returns "-854810030" Any idea of why this happens? This issue is hard to replicate because I don't control the Id of the generated controls, the Id is automatically generated by the Interop libraries.

  I have an issue where the local version of django is handling image upload as expected but my server is not. • datepicker value is blank when disabled, jquery

  Hi. I'm fairly new to jQuery. I have a Jquery datepicker in a user control. I have added a "disable" property to the datepicker. Whenever I save the page(having this usercontrol) the datepicker with disable set to true is empty. All other datepickers save fine. Here is my code. • add row to a BindingSource gives different autoincrement value from whats saved into DB

  I have a DataGridView that shows list of records and when I hit a insert button, a form should add a new record, edit its values and save it. I have a BindingSource bound to a DataGridView. I pass is as a parameter to a NEW RECORD form so // When the form opens it add a new row and de DataGridView display this new record at this time DataRowView currentRow; currentRow = (DataRowView) myBindindSource.AddNew(); when user confirm to save it I do a myBindindSource.EndEdit(); // inside the form and after the form is disposed the new row is saved and the bindingsorce position is updated to the new row DataRowView drv = myForm.CurrentRow; avaliadoTableAdapter.Update(drv.Row); avaliadoBindingSource.Position = avaliadoBindingSource.Find("ID", drv.Row.ItemArray[0]); The problem is that this table has a AUTOINCREMENT field and the value saved may not correspond the the value the bindingSource gives in EDIT TIME. So, when I close and open the DataGridView again the new rowd give its ID based on the available slot in the undelying DB at the momment is was saved and it just ignores the value the BindingSource generated ad EDIT TIME, Since the value given by the binding source should be used by another table as a foreingKey it make the reference insconsistent. There's a way to get the real ID was saved to the database?
