  • why LINQ 2 SQL sometime add a field like select 1 as test, others valid fields....

    I have to concat 2 linq2sql query and I have an issue since the 2 query doesn't return the same number of columns, what is weird is after a .ToList() on the queries, they can concat without problem. The reason is, for some linq2sql reason, I have 2 more column named test and test2 which come from 2 left outer join that linq2sql automatically create, something like "select 1 as test, tablefields" Is there any good reason for that? how to remove this extra "1 as test" field? here a few of examples of what it look like: google result for linq 2 sql "select 1 as test"

  • Is there a way to split the results of a select query into two equal halfs?

    I'd like to have a query returning two ResultSets each of which holding exactly half of all records matching a certain criteria. I tried using TOP 50 PERCENT in conjunction with an Order By but if the number of records in the table is odd, one record will show up in both resultsets. Example: I've got a simple table with TheID (PK) and TheValue fields (varchar(10)) and 5 records. Skip the where clause for now. SELECT TOP 50 PERCENT * FROM TheTable ORDER BY TheID asc results in the selected id's 1,2,3 SELECT TOP 50 PERCENT * FROM TheTable ORDER BY TheID desc results in the selected id's 3,4,5 3 is a dup. In real life of course the queries are fairly complicated with a ton of where clauses and subqueries.

    I'm trying to figure out how to allow a user to enter in a string of tags (keywords separated by spaces) in a textbox to filter a grid of results. Here are the tables: PACKETS *PacketID Name PACKETTAGS *PacketTagID PacketID TagID Tags *TagID Name Here is the basic query without the WHERE parameters: SELECT Packets.Name, Tags.Name AS Tag, PacketTags.PacketTagID FROM Packets INNER JOIN PacketTags ON Packets.PacketID = PacketTags.PacketID INNER JOIN Tags ON PacketTags.TagID = Tags.TagID I need to filter out all the Packets that don't have tags that match any of the words BUT ALSO ONLY include the Packets that have the tags entered in the string of text (spaces separate the tags when entered into the textbox) I'm starting with the basics by figuring this out in t-SQL first but ultimately I need to be able to do this in Linq-to-SQL

    Hi, I have a rather large class stored in the datastore, for example a User class with lots of fields (I'm using java, omitting all decorations below example for clarity): @PersistenceCapable class User { private String username; private String city; private String state; private String country; private String favColor; } For some user queries, I only need the favColor property, but right now I'm doing this: SELECT FROM " + User.class.getName() + " WHERE username == 'bob' which should deserialize all of the entity properties. Is it possible to do something instead like: SELECT username, favColor FROM " + User.class.getName() + " WHERE username == 'bob' and then in this case, all of the returned User instances will only spend time deserializing the username and favColor properties, and not the city/state/country properties? If so, then I suppose all the other properties will be null (in the case of objects) or 0 for int/long/float? Thank you

    In Internet Explorer 7, you can select options from comboboxes by typing the first few letters of the value you're looking for. However, some people in our organisation are a bit slow and can't type their selection quick enough, with the result that the timeout is triggered and the "select as you type" process starts all over again. Example: If I type A-R-M-A (looking for Armadale) then wait half a second and type D, I'll get selections beginning with the letter D. What I want to do is increase this timeout to allow for slow typers. (We're in a corporate environment so rolling out these changes to all machines won't be a problem).

    I have a temp table with the exact structure of a concrete table T. It was created like this: select top 0 * into #tmp from T After processing and filling in content into #tmp, I want to copy the content back to T like this: insert into T select * from #tmp This is okay as long as T doesn't have identity column, but in my case it does. Is there anyways I can ignore the auto-increment identity column from #tmp when I copy to T? My motivation is to avoid having to spell out every column name in the Insert Into list. EDIT: toggling identity_insert wouldn't work because the pkeys in #tmp may collide with those in T if rows were inserted into T outside of my script, that's if #tmp has auto-incremented the pkey to sync with T's in the first place.

User choose several he is interested in and than orders them by priority. For example I am interested in "programming microcontrollers", "system analysis" and "experimental physic".     Hi all, i am wondering how can i select specific number of child objects instead of taking them all with include? lets say i have object 'Group' and i need to select last ten students that joined the group. When i use '.Include("Students"), EF includes all students. I was trying to use Take(10), but i am pretty new to EF and programming as well, so i couldn't figure it out. Any suggestions? UPDATED: ok, i have Group object already retrieved from db like this: Group group = db.Groups.FirstOrDefault(x=>x.GroupId == id) I know that i can add Include("Students") statement, but that would bring ALL students, and their number could be quite big whether i need only freshest 10 students. Can i do something like this: var groupWithStudents = group.Students.OrderByDescending(//...).Take(10);? The problem with this is that Take< no longer appears in intellisense. Is this clear enough?     I've been reading a lot about the disadvantages of using "order by rand" so I don't need update on that. I was thinking, since I only need a limited amount of rows retrieved from the db to be randomized, maybe I should do: $r = $db->query("select * from table limit 500"); for($i;$i<500;$i++) $arr[$i]=mysqli_fetch_assoc($r); shuffle($arr); (i know this only randomizes the 500 first rows, be it). would that be faster than $r = $db->("select * from table order by rand() limit 500"); let me just mention, say the db tables were packed with more than...10,000 rows. why don't you do it yourself?!? - well, i have, but i'm looking for your experienced opinion. thanks!

    hi, I've installed Taxonomy SuperSelect module in my Drupal. Now my customer can not only type the tag for some content types pages but also select multiple tags using checkboxes. I've also ordered the chekboxes alphabetically.     The MSDN gives this code example in the article on the Func Generic Delegate: Func<String, int, bool> predicate = ( str, index) => str.Length == index; String[] words = { "orange", "apple", "Article", "elephant", "star", "and" }; IEnumerable<String> aWords = words.Where(predicate).Select(str => str); foreach (String word in aWords) Console.WriteLine(word); I understand what all this is doing. What I don't understand is the Select(str => str) bit. Surely that's not needed? If you leave it out and just have IEnumerable<String> aWords = words.Where(predicate); then you still get an IEnumerable back that contains the same results, and the code prints the same thing. Am I missing something, or is the example misleading?

    What are the implications of using a INSERT INTO foo ... SELECT FROM bar JOIN baz ... style insert statement versus using the same SELECT statement to dump (bar, baz) to a file, and then insert into foo by loading the file? In my messing around, I haven't seen a huge difference. I would assume the former would use more memory, but the machine that this runs on has 8GB of RAM, and I never even see it go past half used. Are there any huge (or long term) performance implications that I'm not seeing? Advantages/disadvantages of either?

With this you send the POST data and also the user is taken to the page. I know you can send POST data using cURL and get a response back in PHP but how do I take the user there, I need to simulate exactly what a tag does in php. Some sample code or links would be great!     Hi folks, Here is my problem: I have a list of Python dictionaries of identical form, that are meant to represent the rows of a table in a database, something like this: [ {'ID': 1, 'NAME': 'Joe', 'CLASS': '8th', ... }, {'ID': 1, 'NAME': 'Joe', 'CLASS': '11th', ... }, ...] I have already written a function to get the unique values for a particular field in this list of dictionaries, which was trivial. That function implements something like: select distinct NAME from ... However, I want to be able to get the list of multiple unique fields, similar to: select distinct NAME, CLASS from ... Which I am finding to be non-trivial. Is there an algorithm or Python included function to help me with this quandry? Before you suggest loading the CSV files into a SQLite table or something similar, that is not an option for the environment I'm in, and trust me, that was my first thought.
