• How do I store in subversion my customizations to a public open source project?

  Hi, I'm working on customizing a couple of open source projects in ways that are very much personalized -- i.e., not appropriate to send the patches back to the maintainers for the public. One of them is stored in CVS, one in SVN. I use SVN for my own work. The CVS project is fine. I check the tree in to my svn repository, including the CVS directories. I can commit all my changes, and still do a cvs update to stay up to date with bug fixes/features of the public project. How should I work on the svn project? Is there a 'best practice' or known procedure for this kind of scenario?

  I have 2 div boxes. It's all working fine but when the browser is shrunk to less than 800 pixels or so, the second div moves underneath the first div. • Mac Console.app not logging any messages

  I recently attempted to overcome the 500 message limitation on console logs using the advice provided here: Mac: Extend or disable 500 Messages Limit of Console I copied the PLIST file onto my desktop, made the modifications, and re-copied into the LaunchDaemon folder. No dice. Unfortunately, this also broke logging in general- the console hasn't logged a message since I attempted this switch. I even went back and undid my changes. Still no logs. What's going on? Is there a way to reinstall Console.app, or revert to original settings?

• My laptop was stolen. What do I need to do?

  My laptop was recently stolen. It was a corporate system running XP, which means it was part of a domain - I'm assuming that makes it impossible for someone to log into it, although I know there are ways to reset the local admin account. Is there any way to tell if someone boots it up? I was logged into gmail, using two factor authentication. I will change my password, but is there any chance of tracking any attempted accesses? Other than changing passwords on all my web accounts, is there anything else I need to do?

• Easy way to replicate web page across machines?

  I am trying to replicate a browser page to another browser on another machine. I basically want to reproduce a page exactly how it appears to a customer for viewing by the website owner. I have done this before using some impersonation trickery, but found that it would throw the session state out of wack when the site owner would switch customers. So I would like to stay away from cookie and authentication manipulation. Anybody done anything like that? Is there a way to easily transfer the DOM to a webservice? The tech/programming at my disposal are C#, javascript, WCF.

• Dynamically change MYSQL query within a PHP file using jQuery .post?

  Hi, Been trying this for quite a while now and I need help. Basically I have a PHP file that queries database and I want to change the query based on a logged in users name. What happens on my site is that a user logs on with Twitter Oauth and I can display their details (twitter username etc.). I have a database which the user has added information to and I what I would like to happen is when the user logs in with Twitter Oauth, I could use jQuery to take the users username and update the mysql query to show only the results where the user_name = that particular users name. At the moment the mysql query is: "SELECT * FROM markers WHERE user_name = 'dave'" I've tried something like: "SELECT * FROM markers WHERE user_name = '$user_name'" And elsewhere in the PHP file I have $user_name = $_POST['user_name'];. In a separate file (the one in which the user is redirected to after they log in through Twitter) I have some jQuery like this: $(document).ready(function(){ $.post('phpsqlinfo_resultb.php',{user_name:"<?PHP echo $profile_name?>"})}); $profile_name has been defined earlier on that page. I know i'm clearly doing something wrong, i'm still learning. Is there a way to achieve what I want using jQuery to post the users username to the PHP file to change the mysql query to display only the results related to the user that is logged in. • Minimal Linux distribution with sshd and apt

  When I signed up for my Debian Linux VPS hosting and first logged on and invoked ps, there was the only user process running: sshd. As I can see, this was minimal Linux with only two things installed and configured: sshd and apt (plus all dependencies, of course). I want to build (or use existing) similar Linux distro, any advice on how to build (or pick) one? Googling "minimum linux", or "linux with sshd only" usually brings up Debian's netinstall, which is not what I want. Thanks in advance.

• C# .NET Controls for docked tool windows?

  I was using Qt with C++ to develop my GUI applications, but I have recently switched to try out C# .NET as it is much easier to do what I need to. I was wondering what controls I need to be using for a few things and if they exist for C# .NET or if I need to do something custom/special. If you look in that screenshot, I want to do something similar to how they have each tool window grouped into its own docking area with the option of closing it or breaking it out of the layout so it can be dragged. I am talking about the tool windows titled "Groups", "Resources", "Tools", etc. I also want to make these tool windows stay in the same place when the main window is resized. Qt has spring like widgets that will let you create a UI that keeps its shape when the window is resized. Does anything like this exist in C# .NET?

• Why does my webpage look different when I connect using different routers?! Does routers cache files?

  Here is the case, I am working on a site from office and home, I recently updated the stylesheets and logged in the live site from office (using my same laptop I use all the time), and everything looks okay, I come home use my home internet connection to connect to the site using the SAME laptop, the styles are not updated! The thing is: this happens on ALL browsers, and after emptying the cache many times, and even after one month of work, and even if I have never opened the site before on that browser (as if my router has a cache of its own) Another thing: only one particular styles.css file seem to be hanging Extra info: I use the same IP for my home wireless router as that defined in the office, the usual 192.168.0.1

  Hello, I have an @url.Action in which I pass a parameter to the action. When the parameter is null, I would like to just do nothing and stay on the same page. What I have done is the following: routes.MapRoute( null, "Test/View/{Id}", new { controller = "Test", action = "View" }, new { Id = @"\d+" } //id must be numerical ); routes.IgnoreRoute("Test/View/{*pathInfo}"); The action is not executed but my problem is that I get this: Description: HTTP 404. • Set height of Flex Accordion to height of tallest child

  By default the height of an Flex Accordion container is the height of the initially selected child. I'd like to be able to set the height to the tallest child so that no resizing or scrolling is necessary when other children are selected. I do not want to use the resizeToContent property. I want the size of the container to stay constant no matter what child is selected. My current thought is to extend the accordion class setting the creation policy to "all" and then override the measure function to loop through all the children and find the tallest one and use that for the height. This seems a little kludgy though, so I'd like to know if there is a better approach. Ultimately my question is: is there a way to set the size of an accordion container such that the container never resizes and scoll bars are never necessary to display any of the children?

• Loked out: Windows 8.1 administrator account disabled

  I installed a Windows 8.1 laptop. By default the Administrator account is disabled. During the install process, the user created belongs to the administrators group (call it FirstUser). I installed various softwares, I created a normal account for the user (call it RealUser), and I mistakenly deleted FirstUser account (while I was connected under this account). I rebooted and... oh well, I understood the mistake. I no longer have access to any administrative privileges. The laptop is still in workgroup. I tested with Offline Windows Password & Registry Editor (latest version): activated Administrator account, and blancked its password (no option to set a new one) gave RealUser account administrative privileges After reboot, only RealUser account is still available. Once logged in, I'm unable to access anything requiring administrative provileges. Does anyone know a way to successfully activate the Administrator account, or whatever ?

  My home Windows XP Pro SP3 machine is DHCP client receiving configurations from ISP. Trying to access in WindowsExplorer -My Network Places - Microsoft Windows Network shows Workgroup with a delay of 3 min and then popups messagebox: Microsoft Windows Network Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available OK I am logged-in as local machine Administrator. The internet is accessible (I am writing this post through it) The Firewall is disabled The "Computer Bowser" and all networking services, I could find, are running Control Panel -- Network Connections -- Properties (of connection) --- Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), btn Properties --- --- tab General, btn "Advanced..." -- tab WINS-- rbtn "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" checked Why cannot I access my own PC (and shares on it) through My Network Places What is the possible problem? • Do Chrome and Firefox share a browser cache?

  So I was having a problem with some stuff on SO not working that was similar to this post on Meta which recommended clearing the browser cache. Now it wasn't working in both Chrome and Firefox and I had never logged in to SO on FF before today so FF couldn't have cached the file itself. Tried hitting refresh multiple times and even tried Ctrl-F5 with no luck. I cleared the browser cache in Chrome only, and after that it started working on both Chrome and FF. How could clearing the cache of one browser affect the other?

• Appropriate high level language to deal with binary data

  Hi, I need to write a small tool that parses a textual input and generates some binary encoded data. I would prefer to stay away from C and the like, in favour of a higher level, (optionally) safer, more expressive and faster to develop language. My language of choice for this kind of tasks usually is Python, but for this case dealing with binary raw data can be problematic if one isn't very careful with the numbers being promoted to bignums, sign extensions and such. Ideally I would like to have records with named bitfields that are portable to be serialised in a consistent manner. (I know that there's a strong point in doing it in a language I already master, although it isn't optimal, but I think this could be a good opportunity to learn something new). Thanks.

• Determining idle network transfer bandwidth

  I'm building an application that will move around some potentially large files, but I want to do it without disturbing the user's network connection by flooding it. I know that Windows BITS has this kind of functionality, and that's essentially what I'm looking to replicate (as far as the throttling goes). I know BITS has other functionality as well that I'm not interested in, and I also have the option to consume it from .NET, but I'm interested in how it works. I've looked online, and I haven't found a clear explanation of how exactly BITS determines how much bandwidth to consume, aside from a vague "BITS polls activity to watch for a drop in the bandwidth used by other programs." What does this mean? Bandwidth consumed by other programs can drop for a number of other reasons as well - can BITS tell the difference? If I was looking for a process that replicated this "stay just under the radar, where the user won't notice the transfers" functionality, how would I go about doing it?

• Qt: Dragging a widget to scroll the widget's parent QScrollArea?

  I've got a long horizontal QLabel displaying a png (the image shows a signal/time graph). Under that, I've got a QTableWidget. Both of these are in a QScrollArea because I want them to stay vertically aligned (the cells in the table correspond with the signal seen directly above them). I'm trying to add a handler to the QLabel such that the user can use the picture itself to scroll the scrollarea, rather than having to use the scrollbar. Is there a tried-and-tested way to do this? Directly setting the scrollarea's sliderPosition inside the QLabel's dragMoveEvent doesn't seem smart, because when the scrollarea scrolls it also leads to another dragMoveEvent on the (moving) QLabel.

• Exclude pings from apache error logs (ran from PHP exec)

  Now, for a number of reasons I need to ping several hosts on a regular basis for a dashboard display. Want to log all their activity with screen shot. So I would like to know how can I capture the active screen. I tried 'RUNAS' but its show me current screen shot where I run. I am able to use user's application data but not get Actual screen. I also tried LogonUser, CreateProcessAsUser but not getting actual point. So please let me know how can I do it ? • AIX 7.1 su root password bug?

  In our AIX 7.1 machine there is a weird bug we've ran into.. If you are logged into the AIX box via SSH as a regular user and you try to su - you get prompted for the password, lets say our password is "P@$$w0rd23", you can type "P@$$w0rd2ANYTHING" and it will still grant you root. As long as you have "P@$$w0rd2" it will grant you root regardless of what else you specify in the authentication and even though the actual password is "P@$$w0rd23". This seems to be a bug? Anyone see anything like this before? Thanks.

• Configure akamai to ignore favicon errors [on hold]

  We have hosted our services through akamai and have configured and alert in akamai to notify us of 404 errors. We dont want to serve favicon from our services (as they are rest webservices which are not consumed by humans, hence no point in serving favicons). But whenever thesewebservices are accessed from a browser the browser would send a request for the favicon, which ends up being logged as a 404 and akamai sends us an alert for this. Is there a way to configure akamai in a way that it understands that favicon 404s should not contribute to the alert?

  Hello, I have a Windows Server 2008 machine with IIS installed which is hosting a webapp that is sending some notification mails once-in-a-while. What I'd like to do is to monitor the email sent by the application. For this I need a dummy SMTP server which intercepts messages but won't send them further but save them locally on the hard disk.I've already found some of them like Papercut, SMTP4Dev. The problem with these that I have to be logged on the server all the time which is not suitable because the server has only 2+1 TS connections. • How do I start Chrome using a specified "user profile"?

  I use the new built-in "Users" feature of Chrome to switch between Home/Work accounts easily. However, Chrome remembers the "last" user profile you had selected when launching new windows. This is a problem if I close down my "Home" profile last, because when I then click the Email shortcut on my taskbar, because it goes to mail.mycompany.com using my Home profile, and I'm not logged in. I'd like to change the shortcut to the company webmail to pass a switch that tells Chrome to always start as the "Default" user, regardless of the last one used. Note: I have tried user-data-dir, and this seems to do something very different, completely isolated from the Users functionality built in to Chrome. It's possible I'm using it wrong, but please test this before assuming it does the same thing and posting an answer ;-)
