• Ruby: How can I have a Hash take multiple keys?

  I'm taking 5 strings (protocol, source IP and port, destination IP and port) and using them to store some values in a hash. The problem is that if the IPs or ports are switched between source and destination, the key is supposed to be the same. If I was doing this in C#/Java/whatever I'd have to create a new class and overwrite the hashcode()/equals() methods, but that seems error prone from the little I've read about it and I was wondering if there would be a better alternative here.

I have this dictionary-esque string: myvalue=0;othervalue=1;anothervalue=0; How do I split this so that the keys end up in one array and the values end up in another array?

• Serve external template in Django

  Hey, I want to do something like return render_to_response("http://docs.google.com/View?id=bla", args) and serve an external page with django arguments. Django doesn't like this (it looks for templates in very particular places). What's the easiest way make this work? Right now I'm thinking to use urllib to save the page to somewhere locally on my server and then serve with the templates pointing to there. Note: I'm not looking for anything particularly scalable here, I realize my proposal above is a little dirty.

• asp:upload postedfile lost during postback

  I am using an asp:upload control to upload an image and am using the postedfile property to insert the path to the database. In my form I have a dropdown with autopostback=true where the user can select a topic to populate a checkbox list of categories. During that postback, the postedfile value is being lost and after a little research I have discovered that the posted file value is not maintained in viewstate for security reasons. Has anybody else found out how to get around this?

  I'm looking for a way to create a tree of test files to unit test a packaging tool. Basically, I want to create some common file system structures -- directories, nested directories, symlinks within the selected tree, symlinks outside the tree, &c. Ideally I want to do this with as little boilerplate as possible. Of course, I could hand-write the set of files I want to see, but I'm thinking that somebody has to have automated this for a test suite somewhere. Any suggestions?

• How to crop scanned image using C#?

  I have a scanned image of a book page and i need to crop this scan for leaving only page area. I tried to use AForge to detect page borders, but it doesn't work because the space which i need to crop may consist of little "light" areas (due to scanner quality) and edge detector detects borders there. That's why this is bad idea as for me. Could you recommend something? P.S. Please don't tell me to use non-free libraries.

There are also problems with little/big edian, so what would be a good way to do this?   Is it possible to make Visual Studio 2010's code completion window more like that of Eclipse (Java)? In particular, I'd love the code completion window to give me a variable's type, and a method's return type and expected parameters, without needing to hover the highlight over that particular variable/method. VS's code completion's little icons that indicate if something is a property, method etc are useful, but they just aren't enough.

  For quickly mocking up UI, I'd like to be able to drag buttons onto a view in interface builder, then drag a connection from that button to the view that should appear when you click it. A subclass of UIButton is a little inconvenient to use in IB, so I'd prefer to add the behavior to UIButton itself. How can I create a SQL script from the command prompt or Powershell that will let me insert the files into a simple table with the following schema: XMLDataFiles ( xmlFileName varchar(255) , content xml ) All I need is for something to generate a script with a bunch of insert statements.   Ok, so I've read both PEP 8 and PEP 257, and I've written lots of docstrings for functions and classes, but I'm a little unsure about what should go in a module docstring. I figured, at a minimum, it should document the functions and classes that the module exports, but I've also seen a few modules that list author names, copyright information, etc. Does anyone have an example of how a good python docstring should be structured?

• How do I set a single virtual directory of my web app to not inherit web.config?

  I have a virtual directory setup in one of my web apps that needs to not inherit the web.config of the main app so it can run on it's own. I am wondering how I can do this because right now when I hit it (mainwebapp.domain.com/virdir) it throws an error saying it can't find some dependencies that are listed in the main apps web.config (shows main app web.config in the error message), this virdir contains it's own little app that needs to just run standalone.
