• What is the standard for naming variables and why?

  I'm going through some training on objective-c. The trainer suggests setting single character parameter names. The .NET developer in me is crying. Is this truly the convention? Why? For example, @interface Square : NSObject { int size; } -(void)setSize: (int)s; I've seen developers using underscores int _size to declar variables (I think people call the variable declared in @interface ivar for some unknown reason). Personally, I prefer to use descriptive names. E.G. @interface Square : NSObject { int Size; } -(void)setSize: (int)size; C, like C# is case sensitive. So why don't we use the same convention as .NET?

• What can I do with urllib?

While that blogpost does a great job explaining why this monitoring is necessary, how you can tweak it, it still becomes a nuisance on SharePoint virtual machines used for development. It also becomes a nuisance on production environments because SharePoint databases are set to auto grow. In other words, as the database is being used, it only grows, and grows, and GROWS! I'll start with an example - when I get an email and open it on my iPad, there is a feature, which recognizes the timestamp from the text and offers me to create an event in the calendar. Simply told, I want to know theoretically how it's done - I believe it's some kind of semantic parsing, and I would like if someone could point me to some resources, where I can read more about this.

• Maya and Game Engines (i.e. Environment Testing)

  What does it mean if I'm designing an environment and I want to test it in the game engine, to see what its like to "run" [or fly] around my environment? I heard an instructor say that exact thing in a Maya training video and I'd like to know more about "How Game Engines and Maya are related to each other." He stated this would be done to see how things look in "size" (e.g. I assume he meant: 'How big is the cathedral, bridge, wall, building, etc.'). I've tried to research such information but it's too complicated, and detailed. I just want a simplistic response to my query. Thanks to everyone willing to help and not criticize my question.

Has any formal research been done into architecture defects, and their impact on project speed, defects, and the like? • Where would you start if you were trying to solve this PDF classification problem?

  We are crawling and downloading lots of companies' PDFs and trying to pick out the ones that are Annual Reports. Such reports can be downloaded from most companies' investor-relations pages. The PDFs are scanned and the database is populated with, among other things, the: Title Contents (full text) Page count Word count Orientation First line Using this data we are checking for the obvious phrases such as: Annual report Financial statement Quarterly report Interim report Then recording the frequency of these phrases and others. So far we have around 350,000 PDFs to scan and a training set of 4,000 documents that have been manually classified as either a report or not. We are experimenting with a number of different approaches including Bayesian classifiers and weighting the different factors available. We are building the classifier in Ruby. My question is: if you were thinking about this problem, where would you start?

  SharePoint 2010 Training: more information Deciding on a new phone is so difficult. I currently use an iPhone4, and I am itching to upgrade to either iPhone5 or Lumia 920. The decision is difficult because a lot of my work depends on my communication device, and whatever I pick, I will be stuck with for 2 years. Here is how I see the two stacking up. iPhone 5 of course based on rumors so far. I didn’t even consider Android here because I don’t like Android as an OS.   SharePoint 2010 Training: more information I’m putting this here, because I know I’m gonna forget it :) Overall size limits - On an on premises installation, there are no fixed limits on storage. You can configure it as you wish. For Office 365 (SharePoint Online), the limit is 7GB per user. Number of items (documents and folders): You can sync up to 20,000 items in your SkyDrive (personal library). You can sync up to 5,000 items from other libraries, per library. In other words, you could sync 10 libraries (for example), with each library having up to 5000 items. Third, site limits: No fixed limits. It depends on your computer's resources.
