• Fatsest way to edit alpha of CGImage (or UIImage) with touch and then display?

  I have two image views, one on top of the another, with two different images. As the user touches the image and moves his/her finger, the top image should become transparent along the touch points with a fixed radius. (Like the PhotoChop app). Currently I am doing it this way... For each touch. Get a copy of the image buffer from CGImage of the top image. Edit the alpha channel of the buffer to create a transparent circle centered at the touch point. Create new CGImage from the buffer. Create UIImage from the CGImage and use the new UIImage as the top image view's image. This works but as you can see too many copy, creates are involved and it is slow. Can somebody please suggest me a faster way of doing the same thing?

How can I do that? I know about 'copy settings' when creating a new workspace, but it does not keep updated copies.

  I've got a one to many table with ids and traits for those users. I want to copy one user's settings to another. userid trait onoff ------ ----- ----- 1 1 on 1 2 on 1 3 on 1 4 on 2 1 off 2 2 off 2 3 off 2 4 off So I want to copy the onoff values from user 1 to 2, so that user2 has everything on when I'm done. update table set onoff = (select onoff from table where userid=1) where userid=2 that's the basic idea, but obviously doesn't work. I imagine I want the server to think in terms of a correlated subquery, but the outer part isn't a query, it's an update. Is this even possible in one step?

• Xcode + Perforce: it frequently shows me the spinning wheel for no reason! What can i do?

  While working on an Xcode project i keep getting the spinning wheel while switching files, scrolling, searching, typing, debugging, removing breakpoints, switching back from another app or saving. It also happens before compiling but usually it just happens from time to time for no apparent reason. This is the second time this started happening in a Xcode project and it's driving me nuts. It completely breaks my flow of work to have to wait for the spinning wheel to go away (2-5 seconds). What on earth could i possibly do to ... figure out what's causing the problem? resolve the problem? More details: When any project is small, everything is super-smooth with Xcode and Perforce. Two of my projects eventually had this spinning wheel problem after about 4 weeks of work. It only happened with those two projects so far. They consist of around 1000-1200 files in source control, most of them assets. The problem occurs even if i manually check out the whole project in Perforce. The problem is gone when i copy the project directory and work in the copy which is no longer under source control, or if i create a branch in Perforce and work in the branch (under source control). One of these projects i shared with a colleague, and he had exactly the same issues on his Mac. We eventually switched to Subversion and the spinning-wheel issue immediately went away. Now that i've received an updated copy of the project and simply put it under Perforce as a new project, the problem also went away (so far it did not resurface). It leads me to think that it may be caused by a larger number of file revisions. The server itself (version 2009.1) is on a different (Windows) machine on my LAN, so there's definetely no Internet lag involved. The complete repository is just 1 GB in size spread over a dozen projects or so. I'm sorry if the question seems more like a support inquiry for Perforce. However i'm using the free version of Perforce so i'm not entitled to get support from them. I hope no one minds me asking here. I'm really bummed out by this. I don't want to have to create a new branch for the project each time the spinning wheel problem surfaces.

• is there a way to transfer thousand of small files faster on Windows 7

  I noticed that if I transfer a few LARGE files between two hard drives, it's pretty speedy around at least 30 MB per second but if I transfer thousands of files less than 5 KB, it is pretty damn too slow.. around 1 to 2 MB per second. Is there a way to speed up the copy/paste process with thousands of small files on Windows 7?

• Newbie - what do I need to do with httpd.conf to make CakePHP work correctly?

I'm a total newbie to Cake and not much better with apache; I've done a lot of PHP but always with a server that's already been set up by someone else. So I'm going through the basic blog tutorial, and it says: A Note On mod_rewrite Occasionally a new user will run in to mod_rewrite issues, so I'll mention them marginally here. If the Cake welcome page looks a little funny (no images or css styles), it probably means mod_rewrite isn't functioning on your system. Here are some tips to help get you up and running: Make sure that an .htaccess override is allowed: in your httpd.conf, you should have a section that defines a section for each Directory on your server. Make sure the AllowOverride is set to All for the correct Directory. Make sure you are editing the system httpd.conf rather than a user- or site-specific httpd.conf. For some reason or another, you might have obtained a copy of CakePHP without the needed .htaccess files. This sometimes happens because some operating systems treat files that start with '.' as hidden, and don't copy them. Make sure your copy of CakePHP is from the downloads section of the site or our SVN repository. Make sure you are loading up mod_rewrite correctly! You should see something like LoadModule rewrite_module libexec/httpd/mod_rewrite.so and AddModule mod_rewrite.c in your httpd.conf." I'm using XAMPP on linux. I've found my httpd.conf file in opt/lampp/ etc, but am not sure what I need to do with it. I've searched for "rewrite", and there's only one line: LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so There's nothing about AddModule mod_rewrite.c. Do I just create a Directory section for the directory I've installed Cake in and set AlllowOverride to All? (I created a separate subdirectory of my wwwroot and installed in there, since I also have installs of Joomla and CodeIgniter.) Is there anything else I need to do?   Is there a simple way to export the current selected layer as a png/jpg file in Gimp 2.8.4 ? I did some searching in google, and the export should do it in gimp 2.6 if the layer is the only visible layer, but I can't get that to work for gimp 2.8 The way I currently do it now is that I select the content, and cut/paste it to a new image, then export the image and close it, but a simple export selected layer would be much more easy to use.

• How do I implement .net plugins without using AppDomains?

  Problem statement: Implement a plug-in system that allows the associated assemblies to be overwritten (avoid file locking). In .Net, specific assemblies may not be unloaded, only entire AppDomains may be unloaded. I'm posting this because when I was trying to solve the problem, every solution made reference to using multiple AppDomains. Multiple AppDomains are very hard to implement correctly, even when architected at the start of a project. Also, AppDomains didn't work for me because I needed to transfer Type across domains as a setting for Speech Server worfklow's InvokeWorkflow activity. Unfortunately, sending a type across domains causes the assembly to be injected into the local AppDomain. Also, this is relevant to IIS. IIS has a Shadow Copy setting that allows an executing assembly to be overwritten while its loaded into memory. The problem is that (at least under XP, didnt test on production 2003 servers) when you programmatically load an assembly, the shadow copy doesnt work (because you are loading the DLL, not IIS).

  I'm familiar with the way Qt uses D-pointers for managing data. How do I do this in my code? I tried this method: 1) move all data into a struct 2) add a QAtomicInt to the struct 3) implement a = operator and change my constructor/deconstructor to check-up on the reference count. The issue is, when I go to do a shallow copy of the object, I get an error about QObject declaring = as private. How then do I accomplish this? Here's an example of my copy operator: HttpRequest & HttpRequest::operator=(const HttpRequest &other) { other.d->ref.ref(); if (!d->ref.deref()) delete d; d = other.d; return *this; } Am I going about this the wrong way?

• getResourceAsStream returns HttpInputStream not of the entire file

  Hi, I am having a web application with an applet which will copy a file packed witht the applet to the client machine. When I deploy it to webserver and use: InputStream in = getClass().getResourceAsStream("filename") ; The in.available() always return a size of 8192 bytes for every file I tried, which means the file is corrupted when it is copied to the client computer. The InputStream is of type HttpInputStream (sun.net.protocol.http.HttpUrlConnection$httpInputStream). But while I test applet in applet viewer, the files are copied fine, with the InputStream returned is of type BufferedInputStream, which has the file's byte sizes. I guess that when getResourceStream in file system the BufferedInputStream will be used and when at http protocol, HttpInputStream will be used. How will I copy the file completely, is there a size limited for HttpInputStream? Thanks a lot.

• Could I use Revert after abrupting Merge?

  Hallo all, Just now I tried to upload a modified working copy to its branch in the following steps: 1. Update 2. Commit Then I attempted to Merge the changes in the trunk to this branch. However during editing of the conflicts I realized there were so many conflicting codes that I could not address completely today, then I gived up the Merge, and the working copy got an exclamation mark immediately. Thru Check for modifications I found that many many files had been modified or had conflicts. It seems that the Merge has been somehow wrongly carried out. My question: could I return to the state before the Merge simply using Revert? Thanks a lot in advance, John

• Handling hundreds of dependencies with ant

  Hi guys, I have to refactor an ant xml file. Basicly I have one big task that checkouts (using cvs) a lot of dependencies, build them, and then copy all the jar/wsdl generated by building them to a directory that I specify. If one dependency version changes, I have to change the name in at least 3 places on the xml file (cvs checkout, build, copy). What I'd like to have is just a single place where I can specify my dependencies name, without having to search & replace the dependency name through the code. One of the problems is that the cvs project could be /path1/path2/project with tag=v12 but then the jars generated by the single project build could be several with different names, so it seems to be a bit complicated. Do you have any idea on how I can get this done?

My question is: Does parameter p get the full copy of object p1? If so, I wonder if this is a good practice? (I assumed when the struct gets big in size, this will create a lot of copy overhead).
