  • Using dd-wrt Dynamic DNS client with CloudFlare

    I'm trying to configure Dynamic DNS client on my router with dd-wrt (v24-sp2) firmware so it would dynamically change IP address in one of the DNS records. Unfortunately I encountered a problem… Here is an example request from their ddclient configuration: https://www.cloudflare.com/api.html?a=DIUP&u=<my_login>&tkn=<my_token>&ip=<my_ip>&hosts=<my_record> It works if I use it in browser, but in dd-wrt I get this output: Tue Jan 24 00:36:47 2012: INADYN: Started 'INADYN Advanced version 1.96-ADV' - dynamic DNS updater.   • Preview hidden options on web sites

    I want to have hidden options on my web site and be previewed only when the user chooses. I want to animate them from left and right (about 15%). At the moment I have them visible in my html but with width set at 0 and animate it at 15%. In these containers are many options which should disappear to the left/right (with slide effect). But I am not so sure that having all of this in my HTML so I am thinking to create them with jQuery, with 0 width and animating it to it's should be width and setting the other elements to 0 width. Is this approach good, or should I create them and hide the overflow so I would animate position. Or is there a better approach ??

  • Setup Reverse DNS with Cpanel and WHM?

    I needed to set-up a reverse DNS via cpanel. I followed the steps in this tutorial but it didn't work: http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/view/11_30/WHMDocs/RdnsForBind. I use my own name servers registered with go-daddy. But I am with VPS hosting company. I did use a new serial number and exactly as the tutorial however didnt seems to be working When I check this via windows nslookup {ip-address} I still get the my hosting company name, when reversed.

  • DNS servers not set properly? Site failing to load by hostname, though loads fine by IP

    We run www.tekiki.com. Some users, including us, cannot reach www.tekiki.com because of DNS issues. The site resolves fine on the desktop, but it fails from our iPhones and iPads. This doesn't happen to everyone. We noticed the problem yesterday, then set our DNS servers to Cloudflare's DNS servers, hoping that would fix things. Accessing the site by IP addr loads the site fine. Two questions: 1) Does anyone know what the solution is? 2) Should we use other DNS servers besides Cloudflare?

  • Creating PDF documents dynamically using Umbraco and XSL-FO part 2

    Since my last post I have made a few modifications to the PDF generation, the main one being that the files are now dynamically renamed so that they reflect the name of the case study instead of all being called PDF.PDF which was not a very helpful filename, I just wanted to get something live last week, so decided that something was better than nothing :)The issue with the filenames comes down to the way that the PDF's are being generated by using an alternative template in Umbraco, this means that all you need to do is add " /pdf " to the end of a case study URL and it will create a PDF version of the case study.   • PDF from Umbraco | Creating PDF case studies from data in the Umbraco CMS

    Last week we launched the first version of our website based on Umbraco 4.5.2 and this week we have just added a bit of extra functionality to the case studies section which enables you to download the case studies as PDF documents.To do this we used the PDF Creator package by Darren Ferguson, this is actually a wrapper around a product from a company called Ibex, which is where you can download documentation for the mark up required.The way Darren has made the implementation is really simple for anyone already familiar with the Umbraco CMS. You simple create a new template and call a Usercontrol macro, this then does the magic in the background and passes an XSLT file to the ibex engine.What you need to be aware of is that you need to learn a new mark up language called XSL-FO this is actually part of the XSL 1.0 specification and is a language used to express print layouts.As an indication of timescale, from knowing nothing about XSL-FO to the finished product that you can see on the website now has taken me 2 days of learning and just fiddling with the mark up to get the final result.If anyone is interested I might post some code snippets to show you how some of it is done, I would also be really interested to have some feedback about the PDF layout and what you like and don't like about it.Cheers,ChrisPosted using BlogPress from my iPad

  • Web Development Trends: Mobile First, Data-Oriented Development, and Single Page Applications

    I recently had the opportunity to give a keynote talk at an Intel conference about key trends in the world of Web development that I feel teams should be taking into account with projects. It was a lot of fun and I had the opportunity to talk with a lot of different people about projects they’re working on. There are a million things that could be covered for this type of talk (HTML5 anyone?) but I only had 60 minutes and couldn’t possibly cover them all so I decided to focus on 3 key areas: mobile, data-oriented development, and SPAs. The talk was geared toward introducing people (many who weren’t Web developers) to topics such as mobile first development (demos showed a few tools to help here), responsive design techniques, data binding techniques that can simplify code, and Single Page Application (SPA) benefits.     I have two domains hi.org and bye.net and one dynamic IP address and two servers. I want to attach one domain bye.net to server1 and hi.org to server2. I'm using Apache wamp 2.0i. I have two servers behind one router with a dynamic IP address #httpd.conf file additions <IfModule mod_proxy.c> ProxyRequests Off <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> </IfModule> #vhost file additions NameVirtualHost *:80 #default <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www/fallback" </VirtualHost> # Server 1 <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www" ServerName h**p://bye.net ServerAlias bye.net </VirtualHost> # Server 2 <VirtualHost *:80> ProxyPreserveHost On ProxyPass / h**p://192.168.1.119/ DocumentRoot "g:/wamp/www" ServerName h**p://hi.org ServerAlias hi.org </VirtualHost> After doing all this I fallback to server1 only I don't get the page hi.org I only get the page bye.net, I don't even get the default fallback page which gets executed when a person enters IP address but not the domain name. I use Windows 7 (server 2) and Windows XP (server 1) UPDATE: I needed to remove DocumentRoot "g:/wamp/www" line :D it was there by mistake! things are working fine now. But one thing: the URL gets replaced by the local ip address any way to not make that happen?

  • C# 4.0 in a Nutshell, Fourth Edition

    Just became a lucky owner of this book C# IN A NUTSHELL 4th edition. This is a fourth edition of this book’s series. I saw previous third edition of this book, we presented it on one of our events at Yaroslavl State University, but that book was a Russian translated version and published in Russia, this is was bad side of that book – all books at Russia printed on really bad paper. I should say that I didn’t read this book by end, but already I was surprised. Why? Why I heard a lot about Richter CLR via C# (English version of 3rd edition of this book I already have, and this book are waiting my attention), and just a few words about C# IN A NUTSHELL, at least in my sphere. I just listen once about this book at one of the podcast of Alt.Net group, and this words was Richter it is really good book, and C# IN A NUTSHELL it is a good handbook. My opinion is - you should read Richter if you want to develop with .NET. But if you want to develop on .NET with C# you should read C# IN A NUTSHELL too. Read more...
