• System 67 error scheduled task to transfer files

  Running directly on command line the batch script works.   I'm trying to make an ad-hoc network for personal uses.. while creating it, it was created but when i tried to turn internet sharing on i got this error Windows could not set up internet connection sharing (ICS) I looked up google what is ICS and i found that it was an option in sharing tab in my connection properties, so i tried to enable it and i got this error An error occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled. The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion. I tried to also look up google for solution for this and i ended up with nothing really, i tried to enable the required services @ services.msc for it.. rebooted and still same thing it was working a while ago (had a problem at enabling my wireless for about 2 months and i just found a solution for it..) for some reason it doesn't now

  I am still newbie configuring nginx. Is it posibble to configure multiple domain in one file and they share mostly the same config? For example I want to configure two domains that based from one app and one domain need basic auth, the other doesn't. • Assign two static IP addresses to one mac address

  Can Isc-dhcp-server give two static ip addresses to one mac address? I have several home terminals in my network. Each terminal have two interfaces. One for public traffic and one for a management traffic. Both interfaces have same mac address. DHCP server can detect interfaces via dhcp option field and dhcp class declarations. Every terminal have to have static ip address instead of dynamic address. With dynamic address and dynamic pools this would be an easy task. Or is there any dhcp server that can do this?

• Is proprietary vendor software required to use a wireless printer?

  On Windows Vista, other than the driver, one can use a regular printer w/o any extra software, either plugged in via USB or over the network. I don't have to install extra software from the printer vendor to use the basic printer functionality. Is the same true for wireless printers? I need to install the HP 6000 wireless printer, and I hate installing vendor software other than the required drivers. So I'm wondering whether I need to install HP software on every PC that wants to use this printer? I haven't had a chance to read the manual but I'm hoping I don't have to. Can folks that have experience with wireless printers comment on whether vendor software, other than the printer driver, is required to use a wireless printer?

  I know that you can set up multiple virtual machines per physical computer. I'm wondering if it's possible to make multiple physical computers behave as one logical unit? Fundamentally the way I imagine it working is that you can throw 10 computers into a facility one day. You've got one client that requires the equivalent of two computers worth, and 100 others that eat up the remaining 8. As demands change you're just reallocating logical resources, maybe the 2 computer client now requires a third physical system. You just add it to the cloud, and don't worry about sharding the database, or migrating data over to a new server. Can it work this way? If yes, why would anyone ever do things like partition their database servers anymore? Just add more computing resources. You scale horizontally with the hardware, but your server appears to scale vertically. There's no need to modify your application's infrastructure to support multiple databases etc.

  Hi guys, I create the same question is stackoverflow, but I was recommended to post my question here. So I apologies for those who saw this post twice. I am try to create a JSP page that will show all the status in a group of local servers. Currently I create a schedule class that will constantly poll to check the status of the server with 30 second interval, with 5 second delay to wait for each server reply, and provide the JSP page with the information. However I find this way to be not accurate as it will take some time before the information of the schedule class to be updated. Do you guys have a better way to check the status of several server within a local network?

• rsync creating thousands of ..ds_store files from mounted volume

  I've been using rsync on OS X to sync all our website admins. It was working fine until the OS X 10.6.3 update! Now it creates thousands of empty (0-kb) folders. It only does it when synching to a mounted network drive (which we need to do) as when I sync to my local drive it works as usual! • Wireless printer going offline upon entering power save mode

  I recently bought a printer, Samsung ML1865W, a wireless laser printer. It works very well, wirelessly until after a while, it goes to power save mode when the printer goes offline. I then cannot connect to the printer (pinging the ip and various ports associated with it do not give any response) until I power cycle the printer. I have checked my wireless settings and my router, I have installed the printer software in WinXP, Win2000 and in Mac and the printer behaves just the same. Any ideas if the printer hardware itself is broken or that its something on my network/application side that's the culprit. If you own the printer, have you had any trouble like that at any time?

• How to make FileZilla open all the required files with one click

  Is there any way of configuring FileZilla so that I can open all the files on a server that I use to edit with just one click. For example if the files are like this: /home/abc/def/one.txt /home/abc/def/yet/another/directory/two.txt /home/abc/def/ghi/yet/another/directory/three.txt Then it is very time-consuming to navigate through each directory and open the required files. These are only 3 files but what if we have around 10 to 20 files? Yes, copying the path of the directories is one thing. But something that is built-in so that I can just click a button like open all the required files of this connection and it opens all the files in the editor (as set in FileZilla preferences) then that would be great!

Hence we would like to setup a tacacs+ server integrated with some central system. We have two options: Integrate with a central Database server which stores the user configuration. • Fixing mac user file permissions, not the system

  Usually those files get wrong permission when coming from the network, even when I copy them from it, but mostly through "file sharing". So, definitely not talking about Disk Utility repair here, please. But regardless of how the file got wrong permission, I know of two bad ways to fix them. One is CMD+I and the other is chown / chmod. The command line isn't all bad but isn't practical either. Some times it's just 1 file I need to repair, sometimes it's a bunch of them. By "repair" I mean 644 for files, 755 for folders, and current user:group for all of them. Isn't there any app / script / automator out there to do that?

• Can ping device from one computer and not the other

  I've recently been assigned to work on a diagnostic program done in C++ which communicates with a piece of electronic equipment. Our normal scenario involves communicating via an RS232 interface, but I've been asked to make our program work over ethernet, source code having been done in Visual Basic. After much thrashing about trying to get the code to work and continuing to get 10049 Winsock errors when I tried to connect, I tried pinging the switch. From the computer the VB program is running on, I can see the switch via ping, nslookup, tracert, and pathping (I was going down the list of programs) and I can do this via URI or IP address. From my laptop, sending the same commands fails every time. They're both using the same network cable and the same USB-to-Ethernet device (I've been swapping them between tests) but one can see the switch and the other cannot. I'm working on the programming end, but the ping results makes me think that there might be a network issue stymieing me. wry grin I'm not much of a network guy, so I'm appealing to expert assistance. Both computers are running Windows XP if that helps. The connection is to an "IP-RS8" device which then connects to our VCU-C units. Each unit is accessible via URI or IP address on the desktop computer we usually have connected to the units (it's running the older VB program that I was asked to lift the networking code from). The connection is made via a USB-to-Ethernet adapter so as to leave the regular Ethernet port available for connecting to the company network. Hmm... come to think of it, I've probably been confusing the issue, talking about pinging "the switch" rather than indicating that it's the devices. My apologies. Communication is generally done with a DLL that uses Winsock functions to make queries for data from the VCU and then to receive. I'm failing when connecting. I haven't found anything on the firewall which should block these commands, but I'll keep poking. I don't know if it's potentially relevant, but on the desktop, the adapter maps to Local Area Connection 3 while on the laptop, it consistently maps to Local Area Connection 2. • Multi serial devices on one port

  I am developing one software for managing parking lot. System is designed to use four HID RFID devices for authorization clients on gates. Each device should be connected to server by Serial port RS232. Now I wondering is there some device or method to join all that devices on one device and after that to I have only one RS232 cable connected to server. My problem is in that RFID card readers are simple (stupid) devices and there I am not able to change anything, but Ill like to know from which specific device is coming input. What Ill want to do with that new device which need to join four readers is to add suffix or prefix to string that sent from RFID card reader. So I can identify device that is sending card number to my server. I am developing my system on Win platforms.

• Change desktop background at school

  On school computers, I can log in with a user account stored on the school network (something like that, I have no experience in networking and this sort of stuff). Everything is fine and dandy and totally works as it should, but there is one thing that I find annoying. Apparently for some reason I can't change my background to anything more than a couple of different solid colors with our school's logo still stuck in the middle. (the original background is a white logo on black background. If I change it to a different color, the central 6x6 inch black/white logo still remains, only the surrounding color is changed.) It may have been set by school administrators or something, I don't really know. I find this really ugly. Is there any way to change a setting so that I can set the background to any picture I wish? (like on a home pc...) Thanks.

• RSync to WebDAV mounted volume very slow

  I have a mounted WebDAV store, which I am playing around with to try and put together my own pseudo-DropBox set up. However, it seems very slow to upload larger files (my bandwidth graph goes ok for a little bit, then just stops dead for long periods of time). Has anyone tried this? I'm wondering if the way it gets mounted makes rsync think it's a local drive or something and so may be chattier than it would be if it knew it was a mounted network drive? (I'm new to rsync so may be all wrong here!) I'm syncing using rsync -rv /source/directory/ /mounted/webdav/directory/ This is running using MacOS 10.6, and WebDAV is mounted using the native mounting mechanism.

• Setting up a linux server to share an internet connection.

  I in the process of reconfiguring my network. It is currently like this: internet - modem - wireless router - wired server/clients | |---- wireless clients but I need to move the router to get a better signal for the wireless clients. So, I'm looking at this: internet - modem - server - switch - wired clients | |---- wireless router - wireless clients How do I set up the server to enable this? Also, what set ups do the clients need. The server is Ubuntu 9.04 and the clients are a mix of Windows XP / 7, Ubuntu and printers. I believe this new set up will allow me to control access to the internet, which would be useful.

• 4 - 7 second delay accessing Mysql across the network

  Hello, our company has recently purchased a new server with the intention of replacing our aging database server. its a full 64bit 2008 enterprise system, i have got the basic server setup and configured and then installed the 64bit version of mysql on the server, this has then been configured to match where possible our existing server as much as it can. however i have noticed that when it was swapped with the production database server our software systems had an increased delay accessing the mysql database this was anything beween 4 - 7 seconds. i have tried disabling TOE, IPv6 and a few other suggested soultions to this but so far cannot find out where this slowdown is coming from. replacing the server with the production one and the delay goes away. in terms of software and hardware the servers are not very identical at all due to one being windows 2003 std with a 32bit server and the new one being windows 2008 enterprise with a 64bit server. thanks Kris

• Can a Linksys Router be the cause of bad speeds on a 1.5 mbps link.

  We use a Linksys 5-port router at a smal organization with about 20 employees. We recently acquired a 1.5 mbps fibre link, but sometimes the link goes down and speeds are still low. On enquirey from the ISP, this was part of the response, However there maybe throttling due to the router in place. A Linksys is a low end router and may be unable to carried traffic of up to 1536Kbps. We are in a position to deploy a Cisco 871 router on test for 2 wks to eliminate that possibility. Also kindly advise the destination of the ping results they look to high. How true is that about the router throttling the network and need for a bigger one.

• Authenticating a Windows client to a Samba share

  I have a Samba network share being served by a Linux machine. The share is read-only unless you give it a username and password. I want my Windows 7 client machine to connect to it. It appears that the Windows machine is connecting as a guest because it does not have write access. The Windows machine never asks me whether or not it should connect as a guest or with a username. How do I make the Windows machine authenticate? Where do I input my password? This seems like such a simple thing yet I am totally confused. On Mac OS and Linux, it simply asks you for a username.

• Limit disk I/O one program creates?

  Hardware: one virtualization server. Dual Nehalem, 24GB RAM, 2 TB mirrored HD. Software: Debian, KVM, virt-manager on the server with several virtual machines that use Linux too. 2 TB Disk is a big LVM, each VM gets a logical volume and makes its own partitions in that. Problem: One of the programs that runs on one of the VMs creates huge disk load. This never was an issue, because the program never ran on such a powerful hardware. Now the CPUs are fast, and lots of I/O is the result. We cant do much against that at the moment, because the tool is a black box. On the other hand, the speedy computation is welcome. The program creates about 5 GB of temp files which get overwritten during the next iteration. Question: How can we limit the disk I/O for the process?

• Windows refuses to believe printer is online unless I delete and re-add it

  I have a Canon MP560. It is online, in the sense that (a) I can connect to its internal web server; and (b) if I delete the printer in windows (windows 7), and reinstall it, windows will recognise that the printer is online, and talk to it. In all other cases, the windows and mac computers (purchased last week, running whatever is the latest and greatest mac os) in my household will simply not recognise that the printer is online. The printer is statically configured to use the same IP address, so that's not an issue. Because the printer works just fine with windows after delete and re-add, I assume that the issue with the mac is that I haven't installed whatever drivers Macs need to talk to Canon printers over a network.
