  I can change the irb prompt mode with irb --prompt prompt-mode I can see what null and simple does, but I can't tell the difference between null and xmp and the difference between default/classic/inf-ruby. Can someone explain to me what these other modes do? It seems pointless to have multiple modes doing the same thing.

  A rather unusual situation perhaps, but I want to specify a private SSH-key to use when executing a shell (git) command from the local computer. Basically like this: git clone [email protected]:TheUser/TheProject.git -key "/home/christoffer/ssh_keys/theuser" Or even better (in Ruby): with_key("/home/christoffer/ssh_keys/theuser") do sh("git clone [email protected]:TheUser/TheProject.git") end I have seen examples of connecting to a remote server with Net::SSH that uses a specified private key, but this is a local command.   What open source (preferably gem-based) parser-generator options do I have in Ruby? I've used (flex&bison)|(lex&yacc) from C in the past, and I'm comfortable with BNF-style specifications. I've heard of treetop, but it looks a bit alien and verbose compared to yacc... Purpose: I want to convert my text markup language to a BNF and generate the parsing code.   I can, on some of my systems, get my IP address (192.68.m.n format) by doing this: addr = IPSocket::getAddress(Socket.gethostname()) ...the trouble is that this only works if the name the local machine uses for itself is the name the DNS server associates with it. How *&#( hard can it be for ruby to just return its primary interface's IP address? I have to do this in a platform-independant way or I'd just call ifconfig or ipconfig and parse it.
