I have a SHA1 password and PasswordSalt in my aspnet_Membership table. but, when I run a query from the server (a Sql Query), the reader reveals that the pass has returned as its cleartext equivalent. • How to break up HTML documents into pages for ebook?

  For an iPhone ebook application I need to break arbitrarily long HTML documents up into pages which fit exactly on one screen. If I simply use UIWebView for this, the bottom-most lines tend to get displayed only partly: the rest disappears off the edge of the view. So I assume I would need to know how many complete lines (or characters) would be displayed by the UIWebView, given the source HTML, and then feed it exactly the right amount of data. This probably involves lots of calculation, and the user also needs to be able to change fonts and sizes. I have no idea if this is even possible, although apps like Stanza take HTML (epub) files and paginate them nicely. It's a long time since I looked at JavaScript, would that be an option worth looking at? Any suggestions very much appreciated!

I have written some small unit tests for Android activities before but I'm not sure where to start here. I want to feed the accelerometer some different values and test how the activity responds to it. For now I'm keeping it simple and just updating a private int counter variable and a TextView when a "shake" event happens. So my question largely boils down to this: How can I send fake data to the accelerometer from a unit test?

• Facebook photo additions showing as separate / individual posts

  When posting additional photos to an existing Facebook album, each individual photo is being displayed on the mobile Facebook view as a separate post. Desktop display still groups them (correctly) into 1 album and shows as a single post. For instance, if I add 20 photos to an album, the people who have liked my page will see 20 individual posts in their feed from my account on their mobile devices. This has been happening for about 2 weeks now as far as I've noticed. My upload process has not changed. I should note that I've noticed this behavior by uploading via Lightroom as well as through the direct Facebook interface. Has anyone else experienced this? Did something change that I am not aware of? Thanks.

I think that I can obtain a read-only stream from such a column using a SqlDataReader, calling GetSqlBytes() on the reader, getting the SqlBytes instance, and then referencing the Stream property on that. What I want is the converse - I want a stream for update or insert. Possible? (from c#... Without writing T-SQL ?)

• Oracle: delete suddenly taking a long time

  Hi We have a feed process which runs every day of the year. As part of that we delete every row from a table (approx 1 million rows) every day, repopulate it using 5 different stored procedures and then commit the transaction. This is the only commit statement that we call. All of a sudden the delete has started takign about 2 hours to complete. The delete is also very simple (delete from T_PROFILE_WORK) This has worked perfectly well for the past year, but in the past week i have noticed this issue.   Hi, I'm working on a rake task which imports from a JSON feed into an ActiveRecord called Person. Person has quite a few attributes and rather than write lines of code for setting each attribute I'm trying different methods. The closest I've got is shown below. This works nicely as far as outputing to screen but when I check the values have actually been set on the ActiveRecord itself it's always nil. So it looks like I can't use .to_sym to solve my problem? Any suggestions?   I know that in StructureMap I can read from my *.config files (or files referenced by them), when I want to pass specific arguments to an object's constructor. Sure I could surround the .EqualToAppSetting("data.db_server_address"), with #if DEBUG, but for some reason those statements make me cringe a little when I put them in. I'd like to know if there was some way to do this with the StructureMap library itself. So can I feed my objects different settings based on whether the project is built in debug or release mode?

  We noticed that on W7 with DPI set to 125% or to 100% with ("Use windows xp style dpi scaling") turned off, our fullscreen mode (which sets the client rect of our window = desktop rect of the main monitor) no longer hides the task bar like it does for other settings. (The setting can be found in the Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display section after clicking on the "Set custom text size (DPI)" link) I found the following interesting article: http://www.mathies.com/weblog/?p=908 So I set out to try to work around the bug in other means than manually hiding/restoring the taskbar visibility but so far I've failed and currently believe it's a bug in W7 (and possibly vista). The following applications also fail to work properly in fullscreen mode (the taskbar is still visible): * Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 * Microsoft Word 2007 * Adobe Reader 9.1.3 These apps work (probably by hiding the task bar through the WIN32 API): * Powerpoint Slide Show I also tried creating a brand new MFC-based app and use its "SetFullScreenMode()" functionality but it fails in the same way as all other apps on the list.   My java J2SE application is reading a lot of (png) images from the web and some of them use features such as a transparency color for true-color images (tRNS section) that Sun's/Oracle's PNGImageReader implementation simply ignores. Therefore the common solution for loading via ImageIO.read(...); does not work for me as it relies on this incomplete PNGImageReader implementation. Does anybody know a png reader implementation that can read all forms of PNG images correctly - those with color table or true-color and alpha transparency or transparent color? As it is for a GPL project it should be a non-commercial one that can be included without licensing problems into the app. Edit: My be this question was too specific. Therefore let be redesign my question: Who knows alternative implementations and libraries that are able to load PNG files? • FtpWebResponse and StreamReader - specifying an offset

  Hi, I am using the FtpWebRequest / FtpWebResponse objects in C# to download files from a server - so far, so good. I create a StreamReader object from the response stream and use a StreamWriter to create a local file. Now, the file I am reading happens to be in a very simple 'archive' format - there is a small TOC at the start of the file followed by the actual file data. I can therefore read the TOC and get a file offset and size of the data I want to download. My question is: Supposing the offset is 1024. I would use StreamReader.Read(buffer, 1024, length), but will .NET and the FTP protocol actually allow me to skip bytes 0-1023, or does the reader still go through the (relatively) slow process of downloading and discarding the bytes I don't need? This may make the difference between whether I want to use a single archive file, or a TOC file with the data files stored separately. As a bit of a secondary question, would my mileage vary using the Http classes instead of Ftp? Cheers, Adam
