Script to setup ubuntu as a wireless accesspoint on a bridge mode

I use the following script to make my netbook a full-fledged wireless accesspoint. It creates a bridge with eth0 and wlan0 and starts hostapd. #!/bin/bash service network-manager stop ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0 #remove IP from eth0 ifconfig eth0 up #ensure the interface is up ifconfig wlan0 0.0.0.0 #remove IP from eth1 ifconfig wlan0 up #ensure the interface is up brctl addbr br0 #create br0 node hostapd -d /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf > /var/log/hostapd.log & sleep 5 brctl addif br0 eth0 #add eth0 to bridge br0 brctl addif br0 wlan0 #add wlan0 to bridge br0 ifconfig br0 192.168.1.15 netmask 255.255.255.0 #ip for bridge ifconfig br0 up #bring up interface route add default gw 192.168.1.1 # gateway This script works efficiently. But if I want to revert back to use Network Manager, I cannot do it. The bridge simply cannot be deleted. How can I modify this script so that if I run bridge_script --stop, the bridge gets deleted, network manager starts and interfaces behave as if the machine had a fresh reboot.

Suggestions for debugging print stylesheets?

I've recently been working on a print stylesheet for a website, and I realized that I was at a loss for effective ways to tweak it. It's one thing to have a reload cycle for working on the on-screen layout: change code command-tab reload but that whole process gets much more arduous when you're trying to print: change code command-tab reload print squint at print-preview image open PDF in Preview for further inspection Are there tools I'm missing out on here? Does WebKit's inspector have a "pretend this is paged media" checkbox? Is there some magic that Firebug (shudder) can do?

Apache on Mac Mavericks issue [migrated]

Trying to run Apache so that I can create a testing server on my mac.When I start apache it starts, but it doesn't run (no connection to local host. Ill upload the unix,you'll see that after starting there is no processes, and I did a check to show you what was running on my port 80... I don't entirely know that means. Install squid3 + and eCAP module

I want to install squid3 and eCAP module on my latest ubuntu. Squid installed well with command i followed these instructions. http://e-healthexpert.org/node/431 sudo apt-get install squid3 but how do i configure it to enable eCAP module ?. I need to give something like --enable-ecap option while installation, which i could not. Then i tried to manually install using http://code.google.com/p/squid-ecap-gzip/source/browse/wiki/Installation.wiki?r=24 but while installing squid3 it gives error. i.e. command sudo make gives some g++ error. SO how do i install it and configure for eCAP. please h

TeX on iPad compatible with Apple's policy?

Hi, As a nerd, I think it would be nice to have a TeX editor on the iPad. But TeX is a Turing-complete language, and it is arguably a general-purpose compiler/interpreter. Does that make it unacceptable to the App Store? Furthermore, if somebody ports TeX compiler to javascript and runs inside WebKit, does it make acceptable to the App Store? FYI, here's the section of the developer's agreement: 3.3.2 An Application may not itself install or launch other executable code by any means, including without limitation through the use of a plug-in architecture, calling other frameworks, other APIs or otherwise. No interpreted code may be downloaded and used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple's Published APIs and builtin interpreter(s).

Designing binary operations(AND, OR, NOT) in graphs DB's like neo4j

I'm trying to create a recipe website using a graph database, specifically neo4j using spring-data-neo4j, to try and see what can be done in Graph Databases. My model so far is: (Chef)-[HAS_INGREDIENT]->(Ingredient) (Chef)-[HAS_VALUE]->(Value) (Ingredient)-[HAS_INGREDIENT_VALUE]->(Value) (Recipe)-[REQUIRES_INGREDIENT]->(Ingredient) (Recipe)-[REQUIRES_VALUE]->(Value) I have this set up so I can do things like have the "chef" enter ingredients they have on hand, and suggest recipes, as well as suggest recipes that are close matches, but missing one ingredient. Some recipes can get complex, utilizing AND, OR, and NOT type logic, something like (Milk AND (Butter OR spread OR (vegetable oil OR olive oil))) and I'm wondering if it would be sane to model this in a graph using a tree type representation? An example of what I was thinking is to create three "node" types of AND, OR, and NOT and have each of them connect to the nodes value underneath. How else might this be represented in a Graph Database or is my example above a decent representation?

Simple 2d game pathfinding

So I was trying to implement a simple pathfinding on iOS and but the outcome seems less satisfactory than what I intended to achieve.The thing is units in games like Warcraft and Red Alert move in all direction whereas units in my case only move in at most 8 directions as these 8 directions direct to the next available node.What should I do in order to achieve the result as stated above?Shrink the tile size? The screenshot intended for illustration. Designing Algorithm Flowchart Application

I need to develop an GUI application in C# where users can freely add conditional/statement blocks on the algorithm flowchart like the one shown below. By freely, I mean users can add a block on wherever the arrows are. I'm having some problems brainstorming how to approach this problem, especially what to choose for my datastructure to store the blocks. I was thinking LinkedList since everything follows a linear fashion and every node always has a head and tail, but the If/Else block (ba) has two branches (heads) to store, so this complicates things a little bit. How would a smart one approach problems like this? My apologies if this question isn't suited for Programmers stackexchange, but this is more of a conceptual problem rather than implementation problem so I figured this place was appropriate for the question.

Dashcode and firefox compatibility

Hi all, I started to use Dashcode with a Safari Custom Project, my apps work fine, but StackLayout Object does not work in Firefox. I know Dashcode use many wekbit-specific things but is there any way I can get StackLayout object o work in Firefox? I would not mind losing some fancy stuff like transition-animations as long as my Views change. StackLayout also does not work in IE, but I think that is too much to expect from IE. lol. Any suggestions, ideas? Maybe jQuery or Dojo libraries can be used with DashCode in case webkit is not available?. in this case how can I do this? Thanks.

Architecture guidelines for a "single page web-app"

I'm going to start a side project to build a "single page" web application. The application needs to be real-time, sending updates to the clients as changes happen. Are there any good resources for best-practice approaches wrt the architecture for these kinds of applications. The best resource I've found so far is the trello architecture article here: http://blog.fogcreek.com/the-trello-tech-stack/ To me, this architecture, although very sexy, is probably over-engineered for my specific needs - although I do have similar requirements. I'm wondering if I need to bother with a sub/pub at the server side, could I not just push updates from the server when something happens (e.g. when the client sends an update to the server, write the update to the db, and then send an update to the clients). Tech-wise, I'm probably looking to build this out in Node.JS or maybe Ruby, although the architecture guidelines should to some extent apply to any underlying server technologies.

Blank screen after installing nvidia restricted driver

I have a new machine with a MSI N560GTX Ti Twin Frozr II/OC graphic card and MSI PH67A-C43 (B3) main board. If i install the current nvidia restricted driver and reboot the machine on Natty (64-bit), then i only get a black screen after reboot and my system does not respond. I can´t see the login screen. On nvidia web page i saw that the current driver is 270.41.06. Is that driver used as current driver? Btw, i am an ubuntu/linux beginner and therefore not very familiar with ubuntu. What can i do to solve the black screen problem? EDIT: Setting the nomodeset parameter does not solve the problem. After ubuntu start, first i see the ubuntu logo, then strange pixels and at the end the black screen. HELP! EDIT2: Thank you, but setting the "video=vesa:off gfxpayload=text" parameters do no solve the problem too. Same result as in last edit. HELP. I would like to see Unity. As fossfreedom suggested I executed sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup However, there is still the black screen after reboot. EDIT5 Neutro's advice (reinstalling the headers) did not solve the problem, too. :-( Any further help is appreciated! EDIT6 I just installed driver 173.xxx. After reboot the system shows me only "Checking battery state". Just for information. As a result i got a BSOD after installing the nvidia driver. :-) For this reason i sent my new machine back to the hardware reseller. I will inform you as soon as i have a new system. Can we build a list of things developer use that will and won't be allowed under these possible new rules? Why CSS Transitions -module does not support image-to-image transitions?

Hi, I've read the spec for CSS Transitions Module Level 3 and I'd like to know why it does not support image-based transitions. According to the draft, the background-image transitions are only supported when using with gradients. Both Webkit and Gecko seems to follow this practice. It's just that I see this as a major drawback. HTML 5 and CSS 3 could become the killer of Flash, but if I can't even transit between two images, I don't see how one could have beautiful menus without Flash.

UIWebView finishes too fast

I'm loading a biggish (and javascript-heavy) page into a UIWebView, and I want to add a UIActivityView to spin while it thinks. Problem is, my - (void)webViewDidFinishLoad:(UIWebView *)webView method gets called quite a while before the rendering actually happens. Enough so that my spinner (which set to hide when stopped) never actually shows up. By the time the UI is even assembled, the spinner has already been stopped and hidden, even though there's enough time to wonder if it's broken before the UIWebView actually gets the goods to the screen. I wish there was a "webViewDidFinishRendering", but that would imply that WebKit is something other than lickedy-split fast... ;-) Thoughts? Perhaps I should toss the thing up and set a timer to come stop it, and unhook that from anything that's actually happening in the WebView?

Nginx and Google Appengine Reverse Proxy Security

The scenario is that I have a Google compute node running Nginx as a reverse proxy to the google appengine. The appengine is used to service REST calls from an single page application (SPA). HTTPS is used to the Nginx front end from the Internet. Do I also need to make the traffic from the Nginx reverse proxy to the appengine secure by turning on HTTPS on the appengine? I would like to avoid the overhead of HTTPS between the proxy and the backend. My thinking was that once the traffic has arrived at Nginx encrypted, decrypted in Nginx, and then sent via the reverse proxy inside of Google's infrastructure it would be secure. Is it safe in this case to not use HTTPS?

I am new to server side development and am currently learning node.js. What sort of networking information should I be familiar with to allow for a smooth learning curve with server side development. Could anyone provide resources pertaining to the information required to get into server programming? To give you a better idea of my standpoint: I do not know how a server interacts with a database [Q: How does a NoSQL database, or database in general, communicate with a server?] I am unsure of how a web stack works [Q: I have heard of LAMP but do not know how Apache, MySQL, and PHP interact. Hopefully this applies to other stacks as well. How do the components of a stack work together? Also, is a MEAN stack an alternative, or is it completely irrelevant to this] I have trivial knowledge of internet protocol [however extremely inefficient][Q: What resources are beneficial when learning about networking, and how much/what knowledge should I acquire to program on the server side] I am unsure of what I am unsure of concerning networking information necessary to start development Information on how the client-server model works would be greatly appreciated

Need a way for users to enter data while offline and re-submit it when back online

Bitmapdata heavy usage - memory disaster (spark/FB4)

I've got a flex component which works pretty well but unfortunately turns into a disaster once used in a datagroup item renderer of about 40-50 items. Essentially it uses bitmapdata to take screenshot of a fully-rendered webpage in mx:HTML (this version of webkit rocks btw, miles better than flex 3). The code is pretty self-explanatory I think. http://noben.org/show/PageGrabber.mxml I've optimized it all I could, browsed, search for answers and already trimmed it down a lot, I'm desparate to reduce the memory usage (about 600mb after 100 draw) The Garbage collector has little effect.
