• ecommerce options for 5-6 products

  Hi, We're looking to develop a simple e-commerce solution to sell 5-6 products. We'd rather not have to use PayPal's buttons (buy it now!) if there's an existing alternative, but would also for budget/time constraints don't want to roll our own. Are there any small, basic ecommerce solutions available that would allow this? I did look at Foxy Cart but the monthly fee was a bit of a turn off. (I must sound extremely fussy I'm aware!) Something like Zen would just be overkill for our needs. Thanks for any suggestions.

• Self learning automated movement

  I am trying to make a small demo in Javascript, I have a black border and a car the car travels randomly and a line is drawn of its trail. When the user click inside the area it creates an object (we'll call this the wall). If the car hits the wall then it goes back 3 paces and tries a different route. When its hit the wall it needs to log down its location so it does NOT make that mistake again. • Cuda GeForce GT 555m (on Ubuntu 12.04 (Virtual Box))

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 in a Virtual Box as guest OS. Today I have tried to enable all functions of my graphic card under Ubuntu. But all my efforts were off the mark... because my experience with Linux is relatively small... I have tried the procedure which is described as in http://sn0v.wordpress.com/2012/05/11/installing-cuda-on-ubuntu-12-04/. Running the cuda-filepack always lead to an error like "installing driver canceled". Then I have tried to install the Bumblebee project. But I always get the error that the bumblebee daemon is not started. After some internet research I found a test-command lspci -nn | grep '[030[02]]' which results in 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: InnoTek ... [80ee:beef] I've been trying to activate the card you for hours without success. Could you please give me some hints how to activate CUDA? Kind regards

• Choosing a crossplatform for mobile development

  I am creating a enterprise project and will develop the app for WP, Android and IPhone (Maybe also tablets) I have then done some research of what solutions are out there and have narrowed my choice down to 3 platforms (Due to my requirement to work with Bluetooth) The biggest requirement other than Bluetooth is the need to create good interfaces and module programming so its easy to maintain the whole solution, other than that I would like to use C# but its not a real requirement, but if the difference between 2 platforms is very small then it might tip the scale. Mono (MonoTouch, Mono for android) PhoneGap RhoMobile From my understanding then PhoneGap is not suited for business apps and I am not entirely sure why, but it seems like a platform made for speed rather than long term developement, not sure how true this is. RhoMobile is made for enterprice and might suit my needs, but not sure if its a good platform Anyone with insight that care to share their opinion Mono is C#, seems to be very mature and I found MvvmCross which should help organize the project

I am not comfortable with c# but have working skill in jQuery and front-end development. from a year I do UI kind of work. Now someone can suggest me what should I do for next. Should I learn asp.net mvc or I should go for PHP then I can do some wordpress development. The problem is I never found small people use asp.net rather then PHP.( I am not currently employed). • Help with Kodak esp 3250 printer driver on Lubuntu 12.1 SOLVED!

  First my system: pentium 4 -don't remember the speed-, 1g ram, dual boot to separate physical drives, Fdos and Lubuntu 12.1 second my lan: I have four computers operating for the same printer. 1. Intel quad core i5, 4g ram, running Windoze 7 64 bit, printer connected and shared from here. Kodak ESP 3250 2. Gateway 17" laptop running Windoze 7 32bit 3. Asus tablet (small laptop) running Lumbutu 12.1 4. My dual boot system running Fdos and Lubuntu 12.1 The problem: I downloaded c2esp_25c-1_i386.deb, tried to install it using DEBI Package Installer, it loads the files, looks for cups driver and ends with an error: "Dependancy is not satisfiable: libcupsdriver1 (=1.4.0)" What do I do now? Is there some place that I can get the correct cups driver? further information: The Asus tablet was running Ubuntu 12.1 (very slowly and with a few crashes) and could print from the lan printer with no problems. I want to first start using git with small, personal, pet projects so to gain experience before doing it on large scale (i.e., bigger projects, team dev). What areas of the git system should I, as a lone player, devote most of my study time to... what parts should I leave for the larger scale work later on. In other words what features of the git system will fully be grasped in team work only, and therefore should not be too involved with at an individual level?

• Command line options style - POSIX or what?

  Somewhere I saw a rant against java/javac allegedly using a mix of Windows and Unix style like java -classpath ... -ea ... Something IMHO, it is no mix, it's just like find works as well, isn't it? AFAIK, according to POSIX, the syntax should be like java --classpath ... --ea ... Something and -abcdef would mean specifying 6 short options at once. I wonder which version leads in general to less typing and less errors. I'm writing a small utility in Java and in no case I'm going to use Windows style /a /b since I'm interested primarily in Unix. What style should I choose?

• Using an open source non-free license

  Are there any projects/products out there that use an open source license that basically says "free for small companies" and "cost money for larger companies" in addition to "make modifications available"? (And are there any standard licenses with such a wording?) If I were to release a project under such a license, would it be automatically shunned by every developer on the face of the earth, or, assuming it is actually a useful project, does it have a fair chance at getting contributions from Joe Programmer? The second part of this question can easily become subjective, but any well argued point of view will be highly appreciated. For example, do dual licensed projects made by commercial entities have success with the open source communities?

• How to recover data from NTFS partition that was made into a Swap partition?

  I have extremely important stuff on my windows partition which during the ubuntu 10.10 installation,when it said that I should create something called swap space, I selected it to be a swap space (without even knowing what it actually meant) The Grub2 doesn't show up so I don't get a choice to boot Ubuntu or Windows. I don't get my windows partition as a removable device in Ubuntu either. When I go to disk utility and select the sda2 (i.e.. my windows partition) and click edit partition and select HPFS/NTFS for the type and tick bootable and click OK the small processing sign keep on rotating on the bottom right of the sda2 in the chart and after about 10 to 15 minutes it gives an unknown error and thus, I am still unable to use my windows. I am even worse than a beginner who doesn't know a thing about Ubuntu so please be patient and help me out.

  The .NET MicroFramework claims to work on 64K RAM and has list of compatible targets vendors. At the same time, same vendors who ship hardware and create Board Support Packages (vendors like Adeneo) keep releasing something named Windows 7 CE BSP for the same hardware targets. Obviously the OS as heavy as WinCE needs more than 64K RAM. So, somehow .NET MicroFramework is relevant to WinCE, but how ? Is it part of bigger OS or is it base of it, or are both mutually exclusive ? Background: 0.00006103515625 GByte of RAM is same as 64Kbyte of RAM. • Are all languages basically the same?

  Recently, i had to understand the design of a small program written in a language i had no idea about (ABAP, if you must know). I could figure it out without too much difficulty. I realize that mastering a new language is a completely different ball game, but purely understanding the intent of code (specifically production standard code, which is not necessarily complex) in any language is straight forward, if you already know a couple of languages (preferably one procedural/OO and one functional). Is this generally true? Are all programming languages made up of similar constructs like loops, conditional statements and message passing between functions? Are there non-esoteric languages that a typical Java/Ruby/Haskell programmer would not be able to make sense of? Do all languages have a common origin?

• Help migrating from VB style programming to OO programming [closed]

  Being a hobbyist Java developer, I quickly took on with OO programming and understood its advantages over procedural code from C, that I did in college. But I couldn't grasp VB event based code (weird, right?). Bottom-line is OOP came natural to me. Curently I work in a small development firm developing C# applications. My peers here are a bit attached to VB style programming. Most of the C# code written is VB6 event handling code in C#'s skin. I tried explaining to them OOP with its advantages but it wasn't clear to them, maybe because I have never been much of a VB programmer. So can anybody provide any resources: books, web articles on how to migrate from VB style to OO style programming ?

• Creating a blog for software changes

  I work for a small company where I maintain a number of project all at once. I would like to create a blog and note software changes/update so that I can keep track of things. Plus it will also serve as help tool for other if they need help. I would like to install something locally on my machine or network, either ASP or PHP is fine. Which software would you recommend? Is it good idea, bad idea? Has anyone done it? I have worked with wordpress and I like it but I am afraid it is not best for code snippets. Any thoughts I do use source control. • Fonts totally unreadable

  I've just upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 and my fonts are all just small rectangles with nothing in them. They are completely unreadable. EVEN THE FONTS IN THE TERMINAL. Thank god the fonts in my Chromium were ok, because I wouldn't be able to find this site or write this message. So far I've tried to use the Appearance - Font thing and it doesn't work. For some reason there was an error with the fonts during the installation. Please help, this is an utter nightmare...

• At what size of data does it become beneficial to move from SQL to NoSQL?

  As a relational database programmer (most of the time), I read articles about how relational databases don't scale, and NoSQL solutions such as MongoDB do. As most of the databases I have developed so far have been small to mid scale, I have never had a problem that hasn't been solved by some indexing, query optimization or schema redesign. What sort of size would I expect to see MySQL struggling with. How many rows? (I know this is going to depend on the application, and type of data stored. the one that got me thing was basically a genetics database, so would have one main table, with 3 or 4 lookup tables. The main table will contain amongst other things, a chromosome reference, and a position coordinate. It will likely get queried for a number of entries between two potions on a chromosome, to see what is stored there).

• Configuration server problem after changing /tmp mountpoint: how to solve?

  I created a new partition on my hard drive because my /tmp partition was too small. I changed the mountpoint in /etc/fstab and rebooted. Every time I reboot, I get the following error message at the login screen: There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256) When I log in, /tmp is mounted correctly and everything seems to work fine. When I reboot, the error shows again. When I change the /tmp mountpoint back to the old partition, the error message disappears. What could be causing this and how can I solve this issue?

• Bootstrap 3.0.0: How to use data-slide-to outside of indicators?

  I am attempting to make a small gallery like the one shown below - I'm sure you've all seen them considering they are fairly common. When trying to make one using bootstrap I ran into a major problem. I can't seem to link the smaller bottom images to the larger top one that was when one of the smaller ones is clicked it changes to the selected image. I am attempting to use data-slide-to however it does not seem to work outside of the "carousel-indicators". I can't put it into the carousel indicators list because that moves the images up into the gallery (It may be possible to fix this with CSS but my attempts have been worthless). Does anyone know the problem? I've tried tags around each image that didn't seem to work then I tried divs. Still nothing. Things to note: I am using 3.0.0 All images are generated (if you haven't guessed already) Smaller images are separate from larger one (not auto scaled down)

• URL structure for content that is updated daily

  A small, simple site I am working on displays a single page with the day's best offers on it. The user is able to move back and forth between previous days. Which of the following URL structures works best? Structure 1 /index.html -- today's best offers /2013-06-29.html -- yesterday's best offers, etc. Structure 2 /index.html -- 302 redirects to /2013-06-30.html (or whatever today is) /2013-06-30.html -- today's best offers /2013-06-29.html -- yesterday's best offers, etc. I quite like structure 2 from the user's point of view (they can share content easily), but I am a bit concerned about updating the redirect from /index.html every single day -- would this perhaps have unintended SEO consequences?

• Scrolling Box2D DebugDraw

  I'm developing a game using Box2D (javascript implementation - Box2DWeb), and I would like to know how I can pan the debug draw. I know the usual answer is - don't use debug draw, it's just for debugging. I'm not, however not all my objects are on the same screen, and i'd like to see where they are in the physics representation. How can I pan the debug drawing? As you can see the debug draw stuff, is show on the top left, but it only shows a small part of the world. • Problem installing from Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32bit cd

  Older laptop currently running xp, only 128mb ram too. Is 128 just too small? But, 20+ gigs free hard drive and it's been defragmented. When I try to install Ubuntu from a CD I get the screen that says ubuntu and has the four red dots and then eventually goes blank and I just hear hard drive noises. Stays this way indefinitely (shut it off after half a day). Burned another cd, at slow writing speed too, and dl is from Ubuntu and get same result. Any help much appreciated!
