• Unable to do forwarding in BIND DNS?

  I have BIND working on Windows Server 2003. i want to forward my queries to another server. Recursion is working but forwarding is not working. can u guide me to set it. i've given the following in the options: options { directory "c:\named\zones"; allow-transfer { none; }; forward only; forwarders { 8.8.8.8 ; }; recursion no; }; is the format for forwarding correct in the above. if not what is the format. Am i to give any port number in the forwarders line? Does forwarding have any particular port number? Thank You in advance....

• Is it OK to use images of GPD'd code in a CC 3.0 BY video?

  I am making a video in which I would like to use pictures of some Linux Kernel code. I am looking to release the finished product under the CC 3.0 BY license, but the Kernel is released under the GPL, which would not allow this if the code is in text format. However, since it will be in low-resolution, incredibly incomplete, non-usable, non-compilable, non-editable (at least without lots of finagling) format, would this constitute fair use or find another loophole to slip through? • Should I convert my AAC M4A files to MP3?

  Due to Apple, I have a large majority of my music files in the AAC M4A format. They do NOT have DRM so I don't have to worry about that. I'm getting tired of Apple products and really want to switch to a different brand player (and something more compatible with Linux). It appears most MP3 players support...well...MP3 and not AAC. Should I convert my library to be free of Apple and open to other players? Is this a lossless conversion? Can it be lossless? If I will lose quality, I'm not interested. Am I even doing the right thing? AAC is the better format, but I'm not seeing a lot of support for it yet. I'll be honest and say that I need some education in this department. Any helpful advice is most welcome.

  I'm following this tutorial to customize a Live CD, http://www.debuntu.org/how-to-customize-your-ubuntu-live-cd However, it's failed to upgrade linux-image, I guess it's just can't update-grub. Any idea? EDIT I copied the custom/ directory into an ext4 image, now the linux-image-2.6.35-24 package is successfully upgrade. But as shown in the original CDROM, the vmlinuz-* and initrd.img-* file is moved out to /casper/vmlinuz and casper/initrd.lz. Well, I can move vmlinuz-2.6.34-24-generic to /casper/vmlinuz, but how to compress file initrd.img-2.6.35-24-generic in .lz format? (It looks like lzip, but it's not: ) # cd original-maverick/casper # lzip -d initrd.lz initrd.lz: bad magic number (file not in lzip format).

  I'm pretty sure the options consist of Just don't do it (use a nice open standard file format). Not great when someone sends you something. Translate the format on Windows. I think you need Publisher, the viewer won't even print. But you can download a trial version for a once off (been there, done that). Submit the file for online translation to PDF. www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/ Use a Windows VM, wine, crossover office, Win4Lin, or otherwise run Publisher "under" linux. What I really want to do is convert it to something nicer natively under Linux.

• Where do I learn about IP blocks and subnets? Or is there just a calculator that does it all for me?

  Amazon's elastic compute tool (among others) requires the ip block format for their command: ec2-authorize websrv -P tcp -p 80 -s 205.192.0.0/16 I may be doing this wrong, but as far as I can tell I need to use the block format even for a single IP address. 1) So, how would I do that for this IP? 71.75.232.132 Several years ago I took a CCNA class, and I remember going over IPs and subnets, masks, broadcast addresses, class a/b/c networks, etc. However a lot seems to have changed since then - for example I don't think you can tell what "class" a network is in just by looking at it anymore - sometimes they could be multiple classes. 2) Anyhow, my second question is where do I go to get a refresher on all these things? 3) Or should I just be using ipcalc or an online calculator to do it all for me - and if so, which one?

  I have an SSL certificate in .p7b format that I need to convert to .pfx. If I try this through the windows certificate managment the option to expert as a .pfx is disabled. Trying with openssl I have found the following two commands to do the conversion: openssl pkcs7 -print_certs -in certificate.p7b -out certificate.cer openssl pkcs12 -export -in certificate.cer -inkey privateKey.key -out certificate.pfx -certfile CACert.cer but I'm not sure what key to use for teh esecond command, or what certificate CACert.cer refers to. How can I convert this key to .pfx format?

  Does anyone knows if every SmartCard has some unique identifying number that can be read by using ordinary card reader? Number format doesn't matter at all (or string format), just the fact that it exists and that it's readable is enough. I know that new smartcards can be programmed to my liking, and that I can issue unique IDs to them in the process, but I'm more interested in reading unique ID from credit cards, phone calling cards, stuff like that. I should probably mention what is intended purpose for this, before I get incinerated. I want to find easy way to uniquely identify walk-in customers, most of people have at least one smartcard in their pocket...

• Convert a gray PNG with alpha to a 1-bit black rectanble with 8-bit alpha

  I use a tool to render LaTeX equations as PNG. The resulting images are in RGBA8888 format. I would like to extract the luminance (grayscale from RGB channels, multiplied by the A channel) as my new alpha channel, set the picture fully black, and save the result in Gray1Alpha8 (G1A8) format. So far I've only managed to get G1A4 or G8A8 but not G1A8. Also, the resulting picture looks like it's not multiplied correctly… convert original.png \ \( -clone 0 -alpha extract \) \ \( -clone 0 -clone 1 -compose multiply -composite \) \ -delete 0 +swap -alpha off -compose copy_opacity -composite -colorspace Gray -depth 4 result.png What am I missing?

• How to make use of movie events imported by imovie 09 from a DVR

  I have imported about 100 clips of video from my DVR using imovie 09 and they are all saved under movie events folder, this is ok. The problem is all the movie events files are not in standard formats, they are in some 'Apple Intermediate Format' only Quicktime and iMovie recoginize and play. My problem is I simply want to give my 100 clips of video to someone using PC and this intermediate format produced by imovie is not playable or convertable by anything I have found. Now the only option for me seems to be creating a project in iMovie and drag all the clips into the project and then export these 100 clips into a single standard file, but iMovie doesn't even let me conveninent do that, I can only click at some clip, select all, drag into the project, and repeat for 100 more times, Is there a alternative way I can do so? (or use Quicktime player to convert video formats one by one). Thanks

  I have an Apache server that serves up binary files to an application (not a browser). The application making the request wants the HTTP Content-MD5 header in HEX format. The default and only option within Apache is Base64. If I add "ContentDigest on" to my VirtualHost, I get this header in Base64. So I wrote a perl script, md5digesthex.pl, that gives me exactly what I want: MD5 in HEX format but I'm struggling with the RewriteRule to get my server to send the result.   I have a video in Matroska format (MKV, file extension .mkv), 3D half-SBS, where the 1280x720 frame shows the left-eye frame on the left and the right-eye frame on the right. I don't have a 3DTV, but I have NVidia 3D Vision: I tried to open it with PowerDVD 10 with no result (program hangs). With the same PowerDVD, I tried to play the Avatar 3D trailer downloaded from YouTube (MP4 format), but it now shows it the two frames. PowerDVD 10 is advertised to support 3D and 3D Vision. Why can't I play these videos? NVidia Stereoscopic player plays the Avatar trailer fine, but it doesn't support MKV.

• Weird problem, special characters coming after formatting the hard drive, computer isn't starting 0_

  Hya friends , Last night my computer was working fine. But today when i came back from college and started it , it was starting fine but after sometime it's getting restarted , again and again getting restarted at different points , so i tried to boot it in safe mode but same problem. Now after all this , i finally decided to format the drive C (it is in 80 GB) and load new OS windows XP3. After formatting (quick format) and loading xp3 sufficient files , when it was getting rebooted for copying the actual os files , it hung and a weird screen came. • Best way to upscale a video?

  If I have a video file at 320x240 resolution which I want to re-encode (because I don't like the encoding it's in now) and I also want to play it at double size (640x480), will I get higher quality if I scale it up to 640x480 when I convert it to a new format, verses keeping it at 320x240 in the new format and playing it at double size? This probably depends on the program used to convert, and if so, please let me know any program which might increase the quality. Here's my thinking. If I play a 320x240 file at double size, the system has to scale up each frame in real time, whereas if I scale up while recompressing the system may be able to use a more intensive algorythm like Bicubic interpolation . However I am not sure if this is true or not.
