  Recently we renamed our domain from single domain name COMPANY to COMPANY.LOCAL due to multiple problems. However now I get this information from BPA. Issue: The Active Directory integrated DNS zone _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL was not found. Impact: DNS queries for the Active Directory integrated zone _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL might fail. Resolution: Restore the Active Directory integrated DNS zone _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL. Clearly there is no _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL as there is only old one _msdcs.COMPANY however when i check under COMPANY there is no _msdsc, but there is one when i check inside COMPANY.LOCAL. So it seems to me that _msdcs.COMPANY.LOCAL should use the one that is inside COMPANY.LOCAL? Should it not? Should I try to recreate it by hand (since it wasn't created on domain rename).

• SQL Server 2008 Web edition in a hosting plan?

  Do any hosting companies offer SQL Server 2008 Web edition in a hosting plan. GoDaddy for instance offers Standard/Enterprise editions which raise the price by $200 or so a month. I've tried a few hosting companies and can't find the web edition available. Why not? The web edition is supposed to be only $15/month - but I was hoping to be able to get this pricing through a dedicated server and not have to go off and separately get the licensing. I don't even know if its possible to buy just one copy!?

• Is it safe to change the time on hosting VM server?

  So, I noticed there's about a 10 minute drift on my VM hosting server from what time it's supposed to be. In traditional environments, I would just restart the system (and change the BIOS time if necassary). The hosting server is Ubuntu 12.04. Undertsanding that some process could be time sensitive (NTP?), I was wondering how this might affect the relation between the host and hosted system (currently hosting 4: 3 Ubuntu 12.04 servers with one being a web server, and 1 Windows Server 2008 file server). I am using Virtual Box 4 with it's headless option. Ultimately, I am trying to avoid from shutting down the host (which ultimately mean shutthing down the other hosted systems). Is this safe?

• BIND: How do I allow DNS query from specific external host?

  I'm running Centos 5.8 (bind 9.3.6). Here is my issue... I run my own DNS server to serve the local machine. I would like to use my DNS server from home. Since my home is a dynamic IP address, I am not sure how this would be accomplished. In my named.conf, there is an allow-query{} and allow-recursion{}. It seems both of those take an IP address, but i need to specify a hostname (at least a cname). This is not a public DNS server (so any is not an option). My hostname/cname is already updated automatically using nsupdate. The only solution I can think of, which I do not like, is to change my nsupdate script to somehow modify the named.conf to search/replace the allow-query/recursion IP address. That would require restarting named whenever the hostname changes as well as Is there some other way to handle this?

  Hi, I'm about to set up a server upon which a friend and I will be hosting web sites, and I'll be using Debian. I've set up a LAMP solution many times just to using for local testing purposes, but never for actual production use. I was wondering what are the best practices are in terms of setting the server up, in reference specifically to accessing the web root directory. A couple of the options I have seen: Set up a single user account on the server for us both to use and use a virtual host to point to the somewhere in the home directory, e.g. /home/webdev/www. Set each of us up a user account, and grant permissions in some way to /var/www (What would be the best way? Set up a new group?) I want to get this right when I first set this up as there won't be any going back for a while once our first site is up and running. Appreciate any guidance in advance.

• How to recover Wordpress on GoDaddy hosting after reseting database password? [migrated]

  I did reset my database password, so I could enter the phpMyAdmin, but now my Wordpress installation can't connect to the database. I tried to access the "wp-config.php" (should be at http://mysite.com/wp-config.php right?) but, again, I get the "can't connect to database" message. Also, now when I try to access the file manager on the GoDaddy hosting, I get "The page isn't redirecting properly". I did e-mail the GoDaddy support, and I'm researching while they do not answer. Not sure if it's a GoDaddy or Wordpress issue. Is there any way to fix Wordpress, or I'll need to re-install it?

• possible to use an IP derived from Dynamic DNS in htaccess IP allow/deny commands?

  On a website I manage, I want to use an .htaccess file to allow access to a certain administrative directory only from my home IP address, which is dynamically assigned by my ISP and therefore changes -- not regularly, but it does happen. I also have an account from DynDNS and have one of the auto-update clients making sure it always points to my actual home IP address. I don't actually host anything at home; I just have set up the Dynamic DNS account. Is there any way to combine these features: that is, is it possible write the .htaccess allow/deny commands at my outside webhost in a way that my home IP address is not hard coded into the command, but instead is somehow derived from the Domain Name that the DynDNS has assigned me, by doing a real-time lookup every time the directory's .htaccess file is hit? • DNS records on website.. What are they for?

  Recently we had to get some ddos protection for our website because of the large attacks we were seeing after getting a bit of popularity. We handed over our domain and hosting information to our ddos protection provider. It worked perfectly but I have a question. On our DNS records we have the Host and Answer and Type. The Host has our domain name there. The answer is this: SOMETEXTXXXX.dv.googlehosted.com. And when i copy and paste it into my browser it gives me a 404 error. But our website still loads and functions as it should. I don't understand why it would need this? I asked them about this and they said it is a method for ddos protection and the other IPs are the reverse proxy (the other ips give a 404 error too). Can anyone expand on this more please. How does all this tie in together and make the internet browser know where to point the person with all these reverse proxies and stuff I don't understand. Thank you.   We would be building a facebook application in django(Python), but still not sure of where to host it economically,and with a good provision to scale in case the app gets viral. Some details about the app: i) Would be HTML based like a website,using django as a framework. ii) 100K is the number of expected pageviews in a day,if the app is viral. iii) The users will not generate any media content,only some database data will be generated by them.   I have been using hostgators hatchling plan for three months. I got an email from the hosting that my website is creating an over load on CPU. They said that I am eating up their processor and as a precaution, they have temporarily suspended my account. When I contacted their customer support, they said: You have to optimize your database and use some sort of caching mechanism, where the script does not need to generate a new page with every request, helps to lower the over load that a script will cause. I am not a technical geek, I am wondering how I will do this thing. I don't have any resource to hire a web developer to do this job. My website is down for 48hours. I was using wp super cache along with cloudfare's free support. Now I have intalled optimize-db plugin and optimized my database. Please provide me with some more tips on how to optimize my database to reduce CPU usage. Any help would be appreciated.

  I have hosted my site in a shared environment. My hosting people disabled socket function all together. and they said that we can enable only for you if i given a written statement. I did but they asked for my control panel login details so they will run some kind of script to enable it. Is it right for the hosting company to ask for credentials. They have the total control so why cant they do it? Edit: Before six months many websites in their server got hacked. So they think it would be because of socket functions and had disabled it. They say they can enable it for specific users who do programming using that and that is by email request.

• PDO - WHat is it? How do I enable it on shared hosting.

  I have a shared hosting account and PHP5 is installed and running. When I view phpinfo, I can see that mysql pdo is running. I think I need to "link" to it from the php.ini file. But I dont know for sure. I read that I needed to type "extension=pdo.so". I did that, and it did nothing. I contacted my hosting support, they said I need to rename php.ini to php5.ini. Did that and nothing. I am stuck and trying to install Kimai, but cannot without fixing this pdo problem. I have searched for a good hour and can find nothing to help me.

• Failed reverse DNS and SPF only when using Thunderbird!

  I have a reverse DNS and SPF records correctly setup for my mail server. Sending webmail from it works perfect. The problem is when Thunderbird sends out emails, it is using the client's IP address for the hostname. I have SMTP authentication and specified my mail server's as the outgoing SMTP. Mail is being sent, but it is not "signing" the email with the mail server's IP address.. it is using the client's. Is there any way to fix this? • How ssl is usually set up on shared hosting (newbie question)?

  I am quite unclear on how ssl is usually set up on shared hosting. I have account with justhost.com and they provided me with public_html folder and (its sibling) ssl folder. When I create ssl certificates via cPanel it appears in SSL folder. Now, where I should put my html files to be accessible via https:// rather than http? normal files go into public_html (I figured this out ;) what about secure bunch? Also how can I specify that secured folder shouldn't be the ssl folder (if its the one in fact) but rather some other folder I specify? Is it possible at all with shared hosting? Thank you all for your help, I googled for hours and still am heavily confused as you see :)

• DNS Spoofing and Xampp as a proxy, how to configure it?

  I have a server running Apache with mod_proxy, a module to use my localhost as a proxy server. When somebody on the same LAN visits my server (my localhost through my lan ip), he/she can see only the .html page loaded into my server. Due to DNS Spoofing restrictions on the client, if he/she clicks on a link that refers to something not on my server, Apache says correctly "Object not found", because the client cannot request the page from the Internet (remember, the DNS is spoofed to my localhost). The question is: how to configure Apache to grab the page in place of the client?
