• Running an Application on a Different Domain

  Were I am contracting at right now has a new development domain.  Because of IT security rules it is fairly isolated from the domain my computer normally logs into (for e-mail and such).  I do use a VM to log directly into the domain but one of my co-workers found this command to run things on your box but in the other domain.  Pretty cool. For example this runs SQL Server Management Tool for SQL Server 2008: runas /netonly /user:{domain}\{username} "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\ssms.exe" And this runs visual studios: runas /netonly /user:{domain}\{username} "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" It does not solve the problem I wanted to solve which would be to be able to assign Users/Groups in Team Explorer.  It instead still uses the domain I am logged into's groups.

  Trying to get my 03:03.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02) working. I just reformated and installed 12.04 on this old Windows XP machine, and I don't know where to get the firmware for this. • NetBeans does not install properly

  I'm trying to install NetBeans IDE on my Ubuntu 12.04. However no matter how many time i install/resintall it (from Software Center), it still gives this strange problem: After I complete the installation and try to launch it, Netbeans first displays the initialization window. After it completes, the window disappears and nothing happens. Then after a while Netbeans seemingly restarts and then again shows the initialization window. This goes on in an infinitesimal cycle and I'm ultimately forced to restart my computer and uninstall NetBeans. Why could this be happening? I really need NetBeans as it is a very good IDE.

• NetBeans 7.0.1 now in RC

  What would a GlassFish release be without a NetBeans version to go with it? The NetBeans team has released the NetBeans IDE 7.0.1 RC 1 which will bring full compatibility with JDK 7 as well as GlassFish 3.1.1 support (this particular RC ships with the soft code freeze build of GlassFish 3.1.1). This 7.0.1 RC 1release also includes numerous bugfixes and performance improvements across all areas and is available from the usual download page and the final version of NetBeans IDE 7.0.1 is expected in late July (once JDK 7 has shipped would be an educated guess). Note that if you're an existing NetBeans 7.0 user you'll be offered with updates to your existing install via the Update Center once 7.0.1 final ships.

• DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

  I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). A very similar issue is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/direct3d-acceleration-is-not-available-in-windows/4c345e6e-dc68-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=1 The proposed answer, which looks very promising, doesn't seem to work for me. Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time? I should also note that I've tried the following steps as Microsoft suggests, but I'm not able to do so as the "Change Settings" button is disabled. To determine this, click the Display tab, and then under DirectX Features, check to see whether DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP Texture Acceleration appear as Enabled. If not, try turning on hardware acceleration. Click to open Screen Resolution. Click Advanced settings. Click the Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change settings. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to Full. • Yet Another ASP.NET MVC CRUD Tutorial

  I know that I have not posted much on MVC, mostly because I don’t use it on my daily life, but since I find it so interesting, and since it is gaining such popularity, I will be talking about it much more. This time, it’s about the most basic of scenarios: CRUD. Although there are several ASP.NET MVC tutorials out there that cover ordinary CRUD operations, I couldn’t find any that would explain how we can have also AJAX, optimistic concurrency control and validation, using Entity Framework Code First, so I set out to write one! I won’t go into explaining what is MVC, Code First or optimistic concurrency control, or AJAX, I assume you are all familiar with these concepts by now. Let’s consider an hypothetical use case, products. For simplicity, we only want to be able to either view a single product or edit this product. Let’s see what we have: A class Product, that maps to a product record on the database; A product has a required (RequiredAttribute) Name property which can contain up to 50 characters (StringLengthAttribute); The product’s Price must be a decimal value between 1 and 100 (RangeAttribute); It contains a set of order details, for each time that it has been ordered, which we will not talk about (Details); The record’s primary key (mapped to property ProductId) comes from a SQL Server IDENTITY column generated by the database (KeyAttribute, DatabaseGeneratedAttribute); The table uses a SQL Server ROWVERSION (previously known as TIMESTAMP) column for optimistic concurrency control mapped to property RowVersion (TimestampAttribute). The other thing is the included JavaScript files: jQuery, jQuery UI and unobtrusive validations. Also, I am not using the Content extension method for translating relative URLs, because that way I would lose JavaScript intellisense for jQuery functions. OK, so, at this moment, I want to add support for AJAX and optimistic concurrency control. It returns a JSON object, which is what you would normally use for AJAX requests, containing three properties: Success: a boolean flag; RowVersion: the current version of the ROWVERSION column as a Base-64 string; ProductId: the inserted product id, as coming from the database. If the product is new, it will be inserted into the database, and its primary key will be returned into the ProductId property. Success will be set to true; If a DbUpdateConcurrencyException occurs, it means that the value in the RowVersion property does not match the current ROWVERSION column value on the database, so the record must have been modified between the time that the page was loaded and the time we attempted to save the product. In this case, the controller just gets the new value from the database and returns it in the JSON object; Success will be false. Otherwise, it will be updated, and Success, ProductId and RowVersion will all have their values set accordingly. So let’s see how we can react to these situations on the client side. Specifically, we want to deal with these situations: The user is not logged in when the update/create request is made, perhaps the cookie expired; The optimistic concurrency check failed; All went well. • DVD-ROM: Pioneer DVD-115GA not being detected.

  Specs to put things in context: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 2.00 GHz / 2 x 512 MB PC-3200 DDR RAM / 160 GB IDE HDD / 128 MB GeForce 6200 AGP / FIC AM37 / Windows XP Pro SP3 So this computer is actually an upgraded EMachines T2482. I found a used DVD-ROM for cheap... the Pioneer DVD-115GA. I originally had a plain DVD Reader (Lite-On XJ-HD166S) which was quite useless. So I basically did a simple swap of the drive and powered up the computer. The drive could open and close, and I put in a DVD and it was spinning, but no detection. Going into the BIOS, the drive was not detected. (The IDE cable connecting the DVD-ROM is connected to the CD-ROM below it and then attached to the secondary IDE port on the motherboard.) So I started all the way up and tried to scan for hardware changes in Computer Management. Still, nothing. I have the software downloaded from the Pioneer site, and that couldn't detect anything. So what else can I try to hopefully get my DVD-ROM recognized by the BIOS? Thanks in advance!

I do not have (or want) the X Window System installed. I want to change my console screen resolution (not inside X) to 1024x600. • Solaris: detect hotswap SATA disk insert

  What's the method used on Solaris to get the system to rescan for new disks that have been hot-plugged on a SATA controller? I've got an HP X1600 NAS which had 9 drives configred in a ZFS pool. I've added 3 disks, but the format command still only shows the original 9. • Does a 3ware "ECC-ERROR" matter on a JBOD when I have ZFS?

  I have a FreeBSD 8.x machine running ZFS and with a 3ware 9690SA controller. ZFS does not currently detect any errors. zpool status says No known data errors My question: Is this ECC-ERROR something that I need to be concerned about? According to the 3ware CLI 9.5.2 Manual, an ECC-ERROR means that the 3ware controller caught a read-error for one or more sectors on this drive. This sometimes occurs when a RAID array is recovering from a failed disk. I believe that ECC-ERRORS can also be detected when the 3ware Controller verifies each disk. None of the drives have failed and thus there was no drive rebuild, so I assume that 3ware discovered a bad sector when it ran it's weekly auto-verify scan of the disks. Is this a safe assumption? According to our logs, ZFS has not detected any bad sectors on this drive. ZFS can work around read errors -- if ZFS detects a bad sector on the drive, it will simply mark that sector as bad and never use it again. From the ZFS perspective one bad sector isn't a big deal, although it might indicate that the drive is starting to go bad.

• Hard drives (SATA/ATA) corrupting

  Hello All, 2 years ago I bought relatives a new computer for christmas and installed Ubuntu on it. Ever since then it has been experiencing problems with the hard drives. The hard drive supplied with the machine was a SATA drive. When it appeared it was having problems (files and folders with invalid encoding started appearing) I replaced the SATA drive with the drive of their previous computer. I replaced it (The replacement) later on, the drive being rather old and thus becoming more prone to the risk of failure. The replacement drive is a IDE drive but the same problems started to appear (files and folders showing up in nautilus with invalid encoding). I fear the files and folders that are showing are existing FS entries, starting to corrupt. As it's happening to both the IDE and SATA drive it's unlikely to be the drives themselves or the IDE/SATA controller, I believe. Any ideas as to what could be causing the (assumed) corruption? EDIT: You're right about the paragraphs. They were there in edit mode but I'm still getting to grips with the whitespace format codes. The system is a "Primo Pro" AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 920 2.80GHz SILENT DDR2, ordered from overclockers.co.uk and nothing has been added to it except for the replacement of the SATA drive with an AMD drive. It would seem unlikely for a barebones system to be underpowered.

• No internet access when using static IP

  I have just upgraded to Windows 8.1, and after the upgrade process is finished, I can't connect to internet. I tried running the "Troubleshoot problems": It concluded that DHCP needs to be activated: I let it activate DHCP, and I got internet connection back. The problem is I want to set this PC to a certain IP address (the IP address that it has been using all this time). I am also using Hyper-V, which I suspect has something to do with this problem. After I regained internet connection, I tried running one of my Hyper-V VM. From inside the VM I can connect to internet. That VM has static IP address. I also noticed that in "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections", I usually have a network connection called vEthernet (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Virtual Switch). I didn't find it there after upgrade. How do I set my PC to a static IP while retaining internet access in Windows 8.1? EDIT I have managed to recreate vEthernet (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Virtual Switch) by unchecking Allow management operating system to share this network adapter in Hyper-V's Virtual Switch Manager and then checking it again. But when I changed the adapter to use static IP, it still can't connect to internet. • How to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Apple Macbook Pro MacBookPro4,1

  I have a one year old Mac Book Pro that I am trying to get RHEL 5.4 installed on via bootcamp. No matter what I do I can't get the installer to boot. I have tried multiple DVD's and even verified the install works on a new Mac Book Pro. Most of the time the installer simply locks up. I usually use Linux text with all-generic-ide on the boot line. I removed the ide parameter and I just used linux text. The results I get are that a bunch of kernel messages appear then the background turns blue and a thin text box pops up saying its loading ata..... something it disappears too fast for me to read. Then the machine freezes. I pressed the alt function keys to see if I could look at the system log, here is what it says: Alt-f3 says "trying to mount CD device hda" Alt-f4 says status error: hda: lastFailedSense Hda: Failed opcode was: unknown Hda: Lost interrupt Hda: Drive not ready for command Ide-cd: command 0x3 timed out Above this junk it looks like it found the partition because it knew it was 20 GB and listed as /dev/sda3. I think it has something to do with the CD drive, is that possible? Thanks again for the support. • Minimum specs needed to run 1080p HD movies?

  Hi all, I was wondering how low you could go with hardware that would still be able to smoothly run HD movies. My current plan is around $215 CAD w/o a hard drive: Intel Pentium 4 @ 3.2 GHz - 1GB DDR/SDRAM - 512MB X1600 Pro AGP - 350W PSU - ECS P4VXASD2+ - Bluray/DVD-RW drive. As for the hard drive, could I just get a 7200RPM IDE HDD? Also, I'm planning on installing XP Pro SP3, unless Ubuntu somehow has an advantage. I'm not wanting this to be a media center only computer... just want it to be a normal computer with just enough oomph to play HD movies. Thanks in advance. EDIT1: Forgot to mention that the Bluray/DVD-RW drive is SATA, but I was planning on getting an SATA-IDE adapter or a PCI card with SATA. EDIT2: Oh yes... if I get a PCI card with SATA, would you then recommend I use an SATA hard drive as well? That would leave all the IDE ports on the motherboard unused... is that a good idea?

• RAID administration in Debian Lenny

  I've got an old box that I don't want to scrap yet because it's got a nice working 5-disk RAID assembly. I want to create 2 arrays: RAID 1 with 2 disks and RAID 5 with the other 3 disks. The RAID card is Intel SRCU31L. I can create the RAID 1 volume in the console that you access with Ctrl+C at startup. But it only allows for creation of one volume so I can't do anything with the 3 remaining disks. I installed Debian Lenny on the RAID 1 volume and it worked out nicely. What utilites could I now use to create/manage the RAID volumes in Debian Linux? I installed the raidutils package but get an error when trying to fetch a list: #raidutil -L controller or #raidutil -L physical # raidutil -L controller osdOpenEngine : 11/08/110-18:16:08 Fatal error, no active controller device files found. Engine connect failed: Open What could I try to get this thing working? Can you suggest any other tools? • Computer hangs at boot screen with new RAID card

  I am trying to build a new server around a Biostar TH61 motherboard and an Adaptec 6405E RAID controller card. The machine booted fine from USB before the RAID card and drives were installed. After installing, on the first boot the card was detected, but then started to spit out the following message every 10 seconds: Error: Controller Kernel Stopped Running << Press any key to continue ... Following the troubleshooting guide I unplugged everything, reseated the card, and reattached all the drives. This time the machine is sitting on the boot screen without any error messages and flashing a cursor, but after 15 minutes of this, nothing seems to be happening. Given that there are no error messages I'm hesitant to reboot again. Is it normal for a RAID card to sit without a status message when it firsts boots, maybe to initialise the drives or something? The current screen output looks a bit like this: Controller #00 found at PCI Slot:01, Bus:01, Dev:00, Func:00 Controller Model: Adaptec 6405E Firmware Version: 5.2-0[18512] Memory Size: 128MB Serial number: 111111111111111 SAS WWN: 50000D1104AE9180 _ Update: So after waiting 30 minutes I've rebooted back to the Kernal Stopped Running error. • SATA Driver for Acer Aspire One D257

  i have a Acer Aspire One D257. In this netbook the hard disk is defect so i bought a new one. Now i want to reinstall Windows 7. Im using an external DVD Drive plugged into USB. The Windows 7 DVD is staring, Win7 setup is starting and when it comes to Hard Drive options it says that no drive was detected and i should try search for drivers. It shows me this window: Screenshot from web Now i cant find the right drivers for this netbook to continue with the installation. The laptop has the newest BIOS - 1.15, it is reset to factory default settings except that i enabled the Boot Menu prompt with F12. From the Acer Support Website i've downloaded the SATA AHCI Driver and the Chipset Driver. I unpacked both to a USB flashdrive in seperate folders. When i select the SATA AHCI Driver it does not find any drivers. When i uncheck the checkbox "Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer" it shows one driver: Acer HWID (path_to\1.inf). When i continue with this driver i got an error message that says something like: No new devices found. Check if the driver files are on the installation disk. When i show him the Chipset Driver it sees a lot more driver. When i uncheck the checkbox "Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer" it show some drivers: Intel N10 Family DMI Bridge Intel N10/ICH7 Family PCI Express Root Port Intel N10/ICH7 SMBUS Controller Intel N10/ICH7 Family USB Universal Host Controller Intel N10/ICH7 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller Intel N10/ICH7 Family Interface LPC Controller When i uncheck this checkbox i get a lot more drivers, and some SATA Drivers but the also do not work. I get the same error message as before. Can someone help me find a driver that should work or am i doing anything else wrong?
