    Ok, I read a while back that Quantum Computers can break most types of hashing and encryption in use today in a very short amount of time(I believe it was mere minutes). How is it possible? I've tried reading articles about it but I get lost at the a quantum bit can be 1, 0, or something else. Can someone explain how this relates to cracking such algorithms in plain English without all the fancy maths?

However, according to the getting started tutorial I am meant to create an object of type "object" and in order to return a value of null (due to use of generic types).     I have a Perl script inserting data into Postgres according to a pipe delimited text file. Sometimes, a field is null (as expected). However, Perl makes this field into an empty string and the Postgres insert statement fails. DBD::Pg::st execute failed: ERROR: invalid input syntax for integer: "" I just want it to insert a null on field1 instead. Any ideas? EDIT: I simplified the input at the last minute. The old input actually made it work for some reason. So now I changed the input to something that will make the program fail. Also note that field1 is a nullable integer datatype.

  • strcasecmp in C returns 156 instead of 0, any ideas why?

    I have the following code: printf("num: %d\n", strcasecmp(buf, "h\n")); And I get the following results when I try plugging in different letters: a: -7 g: -1 i: 1 j: 2 h: 156 H: 156 Should strcasecmp not return 0 when buf is equal to H or h? Any ideas why it's returning 156? I need to figure out how to check whether the user types H or h. Thanks!

Think of it like the post-comment system in SO, but comments can be recursive: parent_1 child_11 child_12 child_121 child_3 parent_2 child_21 child_211 child_2111 Important to note that the parent nodes have different attributes and behavior than the child nodes. What is the correct (and presumably most efficient) way of modeling this relationship in Django?

  • What are the benefits of using ORM over XML Serialization/Deserialization?

    I've been reading about NHibernate and Microsoft's Entity Framework to perform Object Relational Mapping against my data access layer. I'm interested in the benefits of having an established framework to perform ORM, but I'm curious as to the performance costs of using it against standard XML Serialization and Deserialization. Right now, I develop stored procedures in Oracle and SQL Server that use XML Types for either input or output parameters and return or shred XML depending on need. I use a custom database command object that uses generics to deserialize the XML results into a specified serializable class. By using a combination of generics, xml (de)serialization and Microsoft's DAAB, I've got a process that's fairly simple to develop against regardless of the data source. Moreover, since I exclusively use Stored Procedures to perform database operations, I'm mostly protected from changes in the data structure.     I've been mandated to write an application to migrate the Active Directory access models to another environment. Here's the context: I'm stuck with VB.NET 2005 and .NET Framework 2.0; The application must use the Windows authenticated user to manage AD; The objects I have to handle are Groups, Users and OrganizationalUnits; I intend to use the Façade design pattern to provider ease of use and a fully reusable code; I plan to write a factory for each of the objects managed (group, ou, user); The use of Attributes should be useful here, I guess; As everything is about the DirectoryEntry class when accessing the AD, it seems a good candidate for generic types. Obligatory features: User creates new OUs manually; User creates new group manually; User creates new user (these users are services accounts) manually; Application reads an XML file which contains the OUs, groups and users to create; Application informs the user about the OUs, groups and users that shall be created; User specifies the domain environment where to migrate the XML input file designated objects; User makes changes if needed, and launches the task operations; Application performs required by the XML input file operations against the underlying AD as specified by the user; Application informs the user upon completion. Linear features: User fetches OUs, groups, users; User changes OUs, groups, users; User deletes OUs, groups, users; The application logs AD entries and operations performed, plus errors and exceptions; Nice-to-have features: Application rollbacks operations on error or exception. I've been working for weeks now to get acquainted with the AD and the System.DirectoryServices assembly. But I don't seem to find a way to be fully satisfied with what I'm doing and always looking for better. I have studied Bret de Smet's Linq to AD on CodePlex, but then again, I can't use it as I'm stuck with .NET 2.0, so no Linq! But I've learned about Attributes, and seen that he's working with generic types as he codes a DirectorySource class to perform the operations for OUs, groups and users. Any suggestions? In float.h, there are definitions for FLT_MIN and FLT_MAX. If you do the following: NSLog(@"%f %f", FLT_MIN, FLT_MAX); You get the following output: FLT_MIN = 0.000000, FLT_MAX = 340282346638528859811704183484516925440.000000 FLT_MAX is equal to a really large number, as you would expect, but why does FLT_MIN equal zero?

    Hi, all. I'm pretty new to C++, and I'm writing a small library (mostly for my own projects) in C++. In the process of designing a type hierarchy, I've run into the problem of defining the assignment operator. I've taken the basic approach that was eventually reached in this article, which is that for every class MyClass in a hierarchy derived from a class Base you define two assignment operators like so: class MyClass: public Base { public: MyClass& operator =(MyClass const& rhs); virtual MyClass& operator =(Base const& rhs); }; // automatically gets defined, so we make it call the virtual function below MyClass& MyClass::operator =(MyClass const& rhs); { return (*this = static_cast<Base const&>(rhs)); } MyClass& MyClass::operator =(Base const& rhs); { assert(typeid(rhs) == typeid(*this)); // assigning to different types is a logical error MyClass const& casted_rhs = dynamic_cast<MyClass const&>(rhs); try { // allocate new variables Base::operator =(rhs); } catch(...) { // delete the allocated variables throw; } // assign to member variables } The part I'm concerned with is the assertion for type equality. Since I'm writing a library, where assertions will presumably be compiled out of the final result, this has led me to go with a scheme that looks more like this: class MyClass: public Base { public: operator =(MyClass const& rhs); // etc virtual inline MyClass& operator =(Base const& rhs) { assert(typeid(rhs) == typeid(*this)); return this->set(static_cast<Base const&>(rhs)); } private: MyClass& set(Base const& rhs); // same basic thing }; But I've been wondering if I could check the types at compile-time. I looked into Boost.TypeTraits, and I came close by doing BOOST_MPL_ASSERT((boost::is_same<BOOST_TYPEOF(*this), BOOST_TYPEOF(rhs)>));, but since rhs is declared as a reference to the parent class and not the derived class, it choked. Now that I think about it, my reasoning seems silly -- I was hoping that since the function was inline, it would be able to check the actual parameters themselves, but of course the preprocessor always gets run before the compiler. But I was wondering if anyone knew of any other way I could enforce this kind of check at compile-time.

    I have a bunch of functions which are currently overloaded to operate on int and string: bool foo(int); bool foo(string); bool bar(int); bool bar(string); void baz(int p); void baz(string p); I then have a bunch of functions taking 1, 2, 3, or 4 arguments of either int or string, which call the aforementioned functions: void g(int p1) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); } void g(string p1) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); } void g(int p2, int p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } void g(int p2, string p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } void g(string p2, int p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } void g(string p2, string p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } // etc. (The implementation of the g() family is just a placeholder. actually they are more complicated.) More types than the current int or string might have to be introduced at any time. The same goes for functions with more arguments than 4. The current number of identical functions is barely manageable. Add one more variant in either dimension and the combinatoric explosion will be so huge, it might blow away the application. In C++, I'd templatize g() and be done. I understand that .NET generics are different. <sigh> But I have been fighting them for two hours trying to come up with a solution that doesn't involve too much copy&paste of code. To no avail. Surely, C#/.NET/generics/whatever won't require me to type out identical code for a family of functions taking five arguments of either of three types? So what am I missing here?

Specifically, he needs a way to iterate the properties (and types) of a user-created Class. (In other words, not an external COM object, but an internal "Class Module" as it's called.) How can this be done?

    I have read in many places that integer overflow is well-defined in C unlike the signed counterpart. Is underflow the same? For example: unsigned int x = -1; // Does x == UINT_MAX? Thanks. I can't recall where, but i read somewhere that arithmetic on unsigned integral types is modular, so if that were the case then -1 == UINT_MAX mod (UINT_MAX+1).

  • Adding Google Map to Contact Info Page in Drupal

    I'm trying to display a Google Map inside a drupal page. The map will only have the business location marker on it, with no need for a user to submitted their own markers. So far I've loaded the Gmap, Location, and CCK modules. I've attempted to enable a location field for Page content types, which allows me to input an address, but this doesn't display the actual map. I'm sure I'm missing something simple here. Any help?

    I have very simple (in fact empty ) project which i have created by rails new MyProject command from command-line. So, i want to import it to NetBeans IDE. I click "new project" - "RoR" - "from existing source", select Ruby 1.9.2 (instead of embedded JRuby) in the wizard form. After that i have got errors [see the picture below]: So.. i click OK.   • Drupal permissions not showing for custom content type

This content type is also bound to a module, but this module doesn't have any admin screens, all node creation is done through the standard cck interface. any ideas?   • Grails validateable not work for non-persistent domain class

It always returns false, even when the name is 25. Is this a Grails bug, if yes, is there any work-around? I'm using Grails 1.3.3 UPDATE: I have updated the simplified code. And now I know that constraint "size" can't be used with "blank", but still does not work. I've attempted to set the messagetype in the receive shape as Microsoft.XLANGS.BaseTypes.XLANGMessage, but this basetype is not serializable. This then causes a build error. Is there an object type that can capture both XmlDocuments of well formed xml messages as well as malformed xml and non-assembled flat files?
