  • Some hint to program a webservice "by subscription"

    I have some web sites programmed, I know to do it with python and PHP basically. Normally they are simple web sites, but now I want to provide REST web services but only for allowed users (allowed by me). I saw that a lot of services uses the "KEY" and "SECRET_KEY" concepts, which seems to be what I need (if I understand it right). My suppositions are: If I only do a GET service to retrieve, e.g., all my clients, without anymore, anyone can retrieve my clients without limitations. I will need some KEY generator to provide keys for my allowed users, so they can use my webservices. Only with a KEY is not enough: someone can steal a KEY and supplant my user (and this is the reason because exists a SECRET_KEY, right?). If all this is right, how can I make/use a system like that in my web services? Some open source example? Or maybe there are another easy solutions I'm not considering? My objective is to allow some users to use my web services.

This kicks automatically in, whenever authorization fails in the application (e.g. when the user tries to get to an area the requires authentication or needs registration). Checking and transforming incoming claims In the claims authentication manager we have to deal with two situations. Users that are authenticated but not registered, and registered (and authenticated) users. Registered users will have claims that come from the application domain, the claims of unregistered users come directly from ACS and get passed through. In both case a claim for the unique user identifier will be generated. That means you need to authenticate before you can register (crazy eh? ;). The controller then fetches some claims from the identity provider (if available) to pre-fill form fields. After successful registration, the user is stored in the local data store and a new session token gets issued. This effectively replaces the ACS claims with application defined claims without requiring the user to re-signin. Authorization All pages that should be only reachable by registered users check for a special application defined claim that only registered users have.     I am a software developer having an experience of 3 yrs. I want to play with latest technologies always. But this is not practical. Because say, I developed a web application in .Net 3.5, now its 30% done. After the release of .Net 4.0, my mind is always goes with .Net 4.0. I think like this, lot of features are in new version, so why shouln't I implement those versions in my application. When I worked with IT companies, most of them code with very old versions, some body use VB.NET, C, even Classic ASP. So what might be the points should I consider if I revamp an application?

I'm not sure how pricing high and selling few copies will compare in revenue to pricing low and selling lots of copies in my case. Can somebody point me to books/articles/blog posts/etc that elaborate on the subject, preferably taking into account stuff like competition, number of features, being the first one to the market, research if this kind of app is even needed, etc?

  • How should I handle a redirect to an identity provider during a web api data request

    Scenario I have a single-page web app consisting purely of html, css, and javascript. After initial load and during use, it updates various views with data from one or more RESTful apis via ajax calls. The api calls return data in a json format. Each web api may be hosted on independent domains. Question During the ajax callout, if my authorization token is not deemed valid by the web api, the web api will redirect me (302) to the identity provider for that particular api. Since this is an ajax callout for data and not necessarily for display, i need to find a way to display the identity provider's authentication page. It seems that I should trap that redirect, and open up another view to display the identity provider's login page. Once the oauth series of redirects is complete, i need to grab the token and retrigger my ajax data call with the token attached. Is this a valid approach, and if so are there any examples showing the ajax handling of the redirects?

    Ubuntu 12.10 32 bits, fresh installation. How can I make Unity maximize or minimize a window? I see no button,option, anything, do I miss something big? Quick googling did not give me a piece of answer, too: On first screen, I have a terminal window. Only clue about maximizing it I found was pressing F11 which made it fullscreen, hiding left bar as well. I would prefer it to take whole free space instead of whole screen. How can I do that? On second screen, I have an opera browser which takes bigger part of the screen but I can't make it take whole screen. Restarting opera did not work. How do I minimize/maximize apps? Also, in case I would like to see the desktop, only solution I found was closing everything Help guys. I kind of like new GUI, but I can't have simplest tasks done there, I feel like I miss something big there.

    It is pretty common for a web application to display a list of items and for each item in the list to indicate to the current user whether they have already viewed the associated item. An approach that I have taken in the past is to store HasViewed objects that contain the Id of a viewed item and the Id of the User who has viewed that item. When it comes time to display a list of items this requires querying for the items, and separately querying for the HasViewed objects, and then combining the results into a set of objects constructed solely for the purpose of displaying them in the view. Each e.g li then uses the e.g. has_viewed property of the objects constructed above. I would like to know whether others take a different approach and can recommend alternative ways to achieve this functionality.
