  • How to clean unused app files

    I've finished working on a web app and looking back at the process, I can see that a lot of extra files have been accumulated - backup css, php files, javascripts, images. I'm using an MVC workflow (codeigniter) and I would like to clean the app from unused files. There are also libraries which I've downloaded but referenced some of the files in my code, yet I've kept the unused files too. Total mess really, I'll take a note for the next app to become more organized. There is also a fair security concern regarding these sorts of situations, plus I think that it would be better to omit all the extra files when search engines are indexing the app. Has anyone been in that situation and what is the safest/fastest way to clean the app?   • Online File Library

    I'm looking for a preferably PHP and web based system, to run on Ubuntu server. Basically it should be a "file forum" in the sense that users can register and be approved to post files to categories. Users with "read" privileges can then go through the categories and download files. Basically I sort of want a FTP-like system, but it should be as easy to manage users, categories, etc as that of a forum system like vB or phpBB. If it could have a forum look and feel that would also be great, but I don't want any discussions taking place.

  • Mouse works only in some applications

    Recently my mouse has been buggy (actually one of the reasons I'm switching from Windows 8.1) (I say mouse, but I mean mice, I've tried several). It will work just fine, but when I try to click in the unity launcher to switch to a program such as Terminal it won't work. If I then use alt+tab to switch to Terminal I cannot click in the still-exposed Firefox to switch to that, AND it will change the mouse cursor to show things in Firefox as if I was still focused on the window (show the hand when hovering over a link). But if I then try to type in Firefox, thinking Terminal is now just shown over all windows, it types in Terminal. In Windows 8.1 I had a similar problem, I would run a program, but would only be able to use my mouse in it to click and right-click and everything for about 20 seconds before it would stop responding. NOTE: my mouse still moves around, I just can't click and sometimes it won't even register as hovering over something. I'm currently on Ubuntu 14.04 and the other OS is Windows 8.1. Any help is appreciated, Ethan

  • Deploy to web container, bundle web container or embed web container...

    I am developing an application that needs to be as simple as possible to install for the end user. While the end users will likely be experience Linux users (or sales engineers), they don't really know anything about Tomcat, Jetty, etc, nor do I think they should. So I see 3 ways to deploy our applications. I should also state that this is the first app that I have had to deploy that had a web interface, so I haven't really faced this question before. First is to deploy the application into an existing web container. Since we only deploy to Suse or RedHat this seems easy enough to do. However, we're not big on the idea of multiple apps running in one web container. It makes it harder to take down just one app. The next option is to just bundle Tomcat or Jetty and have the startup/shutdown scripts launch our bundled web container. Or 3rd, embed.. This will probably provide the same user experience as the second option. I'm curious what others do when faced with this problem to make it as fool proof as possible on the end user. I've almost ruled out deploying into an existing web container as we often like to set per application resource limits and CPU affinity, which I believe would affect all apps deployed into a web container/app server and not just a specific application.   • How would you organize a large complex web application (see basic example)?

    How do you usually organize complex web applications that are extremely rich on the client side. I have created a contrived example to indicate the kind of mess it's easy to get into if things are not managed well for big apps. Feel free to modify/extend this example as you wish - http://jsfiddle.net/NHyLC/1/ The example basically mirrors part of the comment posting on SO, and follows the following rules: Must have 15 characters minimum, after multiple spaces are trimmed out to one. If Add Comment is clicked, but the size is less than 15 after removing multiple spaces, then show a popup with the error. Indicate amount of characters remaining and summarize with color coding. Gray indicates a small comment, brown indicates a medium comment, orange a large comment, and red a comment overflow. One comment can only be submitted every 15 seconds. If comment is submitted too soon, show a popup with appropriate error message. A couple of issues I noticed with this example. This should ideally be a widget or some sort of packaged functionality. Things like a comment per 15 seconds, and minimum 15 character comment belong to some application wide policies rather than being embedded inside each widget. Too many hard-coded values. No code organization. Model, Views, Controllers are all bundled together. Not that MVC is the only approach for organizing rich client side web applications, but there is none in this example. How would you go about cleaning this up? Applying a little MVC/MVP along the way?     Hi All, I've seen a number of post about Proxy Authentication, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a SharePoint Web Service consuming desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. The normal -dhttp.proxyHost ... settings does not seam to help any. But I have found that by creating a ProxySelector class and setting it as default, I can regain access to the authentication web service, but I still can't retrieve the list of web sites from the SharePoint server. It's almost as if the authentication I provide is going to the proxy rather than the SharePoint server. Anyone have any experience on how to make this work?   • A "First" at Oracle OpenWorld

These firsts keep the conference fresh and are the reason people come back year after year. An important first this year is our Fusion CRM customers who are using the product and deriving real benefit from Fusion CRM. Everyone can learn from and interact with them -- including us!  We love talking to customers, especially those who are using our solutions in unexpected ways because they challenge us! At previous OpenWorlds, we presented our overall Fusion vision and our plans for Fusion CRM. Those presentations helped customers plan their strategies and map out their new release uptakes.
