    Is there any tool to log current observers of a given object, in the spirit of what "gdb info gc-roots" does? I found "gdb info gc-references" could do that (sort of) as a by-product of its original purpose, but that won't work with non garbage collected apps. Thanks!

I would like to know after the global solution compilation, which projets fail and forward errors to developers.   • Unable to boot from SATA II and vista

    Trying to use a SATA II hard drive on toshiba satellite notebook. The hard drive has vista installed on it from another notebook. After inserting the hard drive, the boot starts.. shows "Microsoft windows" the progress bar, and reboots, in a loop. The existing hard drive is SATA with xp on it. The replacement one is SATA II with vista on it. I wanna troubleshoot. But, don't know where to start. Any help is much appreciated!!

  • Pxe boot ubuntu server - corrupt packages

    I have set up a cobbler pxe boot server and managed to get centos5.8 to fully automatically install. Unfortunately with Ubuntu 12.04-server-i386, it stops mid-way through with a message stating that packages are corrupt. I tried following this tip to unzip the Packages.gz file which results in an empty Packages file with nothing in it. Other people suggested doing a touch command which essentially does the exact same thing, an empty Packages file. That results in me getting a different message that states: Couldn't retrieve dists/precise/restricted/binary-i386/Packages. This may be due to a network..... Does anyone know how to work around this issue? Hitting continue before having made the tip/workaround resulted in ubuntu installing fine, but I need to be able to provide no manual input. Any advice appreciated, Stu

  • Why UFW has to be (re)started at boot time if it's only iptables rule manager?

    README from source package says: When installing ufw from source, you will also need to integrate it into your boot process for the firewall to start when you restart your system. Depending on your needs, this can be as simple as adding the following to a startup script (eg rc.local for systems that use it): # /lib/ufw/ufw-init start For systems that use SysV initscripts, an example script is provided in doc/initscript.example. See doc/upstart.example for an Upstart example. Consult your distribution's documentation for the proper way to modify your boot process. On my system I have this: # /etc/ufw/ufw.conf # # Set to yes to start on boot. If setting this remotely, be sure to add a rule # to allow your remote connection before starting ufw. Eg: 'ufw allow 22/tcp' ENABLED=yes So, why does simple iptables rule manager need to be started at boot time? Is there any secret to that, or it merely checks if all rules are in place ?

  • Xenserver boot error

    I'm trying to get Xenserver 5.5 running on a spare computer here, hardware specs: Intel Q6600, 4GB Ram, and Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard Xenserver itself installs fine onto a 150GB sata hdd, however it fails to boot whatsoever, giving this garbled mess: http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/9918/biosi.jpg it's not frozen because if I press enter it just prints a different garble and it also says "could not find kernel image". The strangest thing is if I put that hdd in my desktop and assign it to a VMWare desktop vm (under the ESX profile no less) it boots perfectly... leading me to believe there are no problems with the install or the hdd itself. From what I can tell the error seems to be occuring completely seperately to Xenserver, in the bootloader extlinux?. If there was a motherboard compatibility issue I would think it would also have manifested during installation, and the fact the problem seems to be with the booting into Xen makes me doubt this. Any ideas guys? (I'm using Xen because it can do PCI passthrough without VT-d.)

    Hey guys, I've installed Windows 7 for a dual-boot setup on my new Core i7 MacBook Pro. Now, just for the looks, I'd like to change the volume icon. The partition is in NTFS format. I remember that in the past (with Leopard), you just had to add a .VolumeIcon.icns file at the root of a volume to set its icon. It seems this trick wore off with Snow Leopard. It apparently still works with CDs and DVDs, but hard drives keep that old, boring drive icon, no matter how lovely the .VolumeIcon.icns file I've put at the root. How can I change that?

  • Acer Aspire 5719 with Windows XP does not boot

    Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 5710 which came pre-loaded with Windows Vista. O/S has been changed to Win SXP SP2 and was working fine till today. The laptop starts up and then hangs (does not reach till the Windows screen). Have tried the following Repair with XP CD. Re-install with XP CD (In both cases the error "No hard disk" is displayed.) Tried F5/F8 to boot with other options. Guess the hard-disk is not being recognised. The 160 Gb SATA disk is shown as IDE0 in the Phoenix Bios. There is no floppy drive. Any suggestions.     Hello, Q1 - As far as I know, Visual Studio doesn’t use aspnet_compiler.exe when compiling web application projects. And since Web Deployment Projects (WDP) tool is only used for manipulation the output created by aspnet_compiler.exe, I don’t understand how VS 2008 also has an option for using WDP with web application projects?! Q2 - What is a stock project? thanx EDIT: So I was right about the fact that Visual Studio doesn’t use aspnet_compiler.exe when compiling web application projects? much appreciated

  • Darik's Boot And Nuke - ERROR /dev/sda

    I'm trying to wipe the drive of an old company computer with DBAN so I can install Redhat Enterprise and learn Linux (it's a Dell Inspiron 1210, if that matters). I burnt DBAN to a CD and boot from that CD (running on an external USB CD drive). Whenever I try to run the utility--whether it's Autonuke, or any of manual wiping methods-- it spits on the errors: ERROR /dev/sdb ERROR /dev/sda From what I've read on some other forums, there are some issues with other drives or removable media interfering however I've disabled all other drives in bios, leaving just CD/DVD and the Hard Disk but still no luck. Any advice on how I can reconcile these errors and wipe the disk?

  • Mac OS x 10.4 Tiger Will Not Boot

    My G5 Tower all of a sudden is ONLY booting to the Registration page, the where after you installed the software you are suppose to Register. I cant get it to boot in safe mode, so I am using my usb 2.0 SATA cable to connect my drive to a my macbook pro and I am using (CCC) Disc to Disc Clone and it is copying to my external WD passport drive and that makes a startup disc along with all my info from my drive. My question is was there anything easier and less time consuming than that? Does anyone know why this would happen all of a sudden? Thank You All in Advance for your help and support! Keith B

  • Disk boot failure in Windows 7 64-bit after installing the latest NVIDIA drivers

    I successfully installed the newest NVIDIA drivers (275.33) in Windows 7 64-bit and rebooted afterwards just in case. After the reboot, I got an error about missing MBR. I disconnected the slave disk so that Windows doesn't get confused and got this message: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER It seems that Windows doesn't recognize the main disk anymore. I booted from Windows install disk but the main disk doesn't get listed as possible Windows locations to repair, and I can't get to it from the recovery prompt. The BIOS does recognize it, and I'm able to see it if I run diskpart - however "detail disk" in diskpart says that there are no volumes on the disk. I also tried bootrec /FixMbr without effect, and bootrec /FixBoot which gives the error message: Element not found. What else can I do? Why would diskpart say there are no volumes on the disk?

    I have 4 VMs on a linux host, call them A, B, C, D running on Z. I really don't care when A and B come up, but I would like to make sure that D comes up before C. I believe that in VMWare 2.x it's possible to change the boot order. Is this possible in 1.x as well? Is this done in /etc/vmware/vm-list? I see that there are a number of vms listed there, including some that have long since been deleted. Thanks! Bo

  • Open a screen session inside a certain user on boot Ubuntu Server Linux

    I currently have a private server which I test my web apps on which runs Ubuntu Server 10.04 I also host a few game servers (rather than having wasted CPU time :-D) for some of my friends. These game servers I run in the game user account and each one has it's own screen session (so friends can ssh in and reboot the game server etc...). For example screen -R l4d2 runs ./start in the L4D2 folder. However if I reboot the server (which I have to do occasionally) all these sessions close and I have to manually create all the screen sessions and run the required games within them. Is there a way to set these screen sessions as Daemons or services or just boot on server start so they restart themselves on server reboot?     There was this old sql server tool called Lectoneth or something like that, you'd put sql queries in it, and it would rewrite it for you. I think quest bought them out, but I can't find where to download a free copy of that software. Really helps when you have no dba, and have lots of sql queries to rewrite. Thanks Craig
