  I have an approx server to speed up Debian apt updates, on my Ubuntu 11.04 desktop PC, it had ran fine in the past, but today le 9999 port is open from localhost, but not for others PC. I have not modified inetd configuration at all. • Strange Unclearable Cache Issue with Gmail and Google Apps

  I am having a strange issue with Gmail and Google Apps... have a look at this screenshot: http://cld.ly/f51ume notice the missing images for the rounded corners? Well this is not such a problem but something similar to a cache issue is causing this as well as no background image, but MOST IMPORTANTLY chat and other "clickable" features aren't working. I've already cleared my cache multiple times and quit and re-started Firefox with no change. Everything is OK in other browsers. Any other debug suggestions?

• GDM login screen is not displayed with VNC

  Hi, I set up VNC server with xinetd. Also configured GDM so that XDMCP is enabled. VNC connection seems okay, but GDM login screen is not shown. Instead I can only see old bare X screen (gray meshed background and X-shaped mouse pointer), which I can't do any interaction with it. What can I do to fix the problem? No log is written below /var/log/.   Trying to install Vanilla 2 locally using MAMP i got the error: "You must have the MySQL driver for PDO enabled in order for Vanilla to connect to your database". When I check phpinfo() I see: --with-pdo-mysql=shared,/Applications/MAMP/Library --with-pdo-pgsql=shared,/Applications/MAMP/Library/pg When I go and check out those paths I find the files: libpq.5.dylib libpq.dylib libpq.5.2.dylib When I check my php.ini file I see: ; Extensions extension=pdo_mysql.so In php.ini the path to the extension dir is correct (checked it manually): extension_dir = "/Applications/MAMP/bin/php5.3/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/" In this folder I find the file: pdo_mysql.so phpinfo() gives me two sections: PDO PDO drivers: sqlite, sqlite2 and pdo_sqlite SQLite Library: 3.6.22 So everything seems to be fine, but can't get the PDO MySQL driver working :(

• Unable to log iptables

  I'm having trouble getting iptables to log to any file. My iptables looks like: Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 1366 packets, 433582 bytes) pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination 869 60656 LOG icmp -- venet0 * 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 LOG flags 0 level 7 Syslogd is the only log helper running. The default syslog.conf didn't work, so I tried adding "kern.=debug -/var/log/iptables.log". But the file already has "kern.* -/var/log/kern.log". There are recent syslog entries, so it's not a permissions thing. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.1 with 2.6.32-042stab061.2

• Initiate a PHP class where class name is a variable

  I need some help with an error I have not encountered before and can't seem to find anywhere. In a PHP mvc framework (just from a tutorial) I have the following: // Initiate the class $className = 'Controller_' . ucfirst($controller); if (class_exists($className)) { $controller = new $className($this->registry); } $className is showing the correct class name (case is also correct). But when I run it I get this in the apache error log (no php error) [Wed Mar 31 10:34:12 2010] [notice] child pid 987 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Process id is different on every call. I am running PHP 5.3.0 on os x 10.6. This site seems to work on 5.2.11 on another Mac. Not really sure where to go next to debug it. I guess it could be an apache setting as much as a php bug or a problem with the code... any suggestions on where to look next?

• Ubuntu: move logs from /dev/tty8 to different terminal /dev/tty12 or get rid of it.

  I want to know how to move or get rid of /dev/tty8 log output in Ubuntu 9.10. /dev/tty7 is my regular X session. When I am switching user to test account where I can try and test setups and configs I am at next available console i.e. /dev/tty9 because /dev/tty8 is taken by log output. Where can I configure this ? All I've found related to /dev/tty8 is commented lines in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf. I changed it like that: daemon,mail.*;\ news.=crit;news.=err;news.=notice;\ *.=debug;*.=info;\ *.=notice;*.=warn /dev/tty12 And I've got nice log output on /dev/tty12 but where is configuration for log output on /dev/tty8. How can I change it?

• Testing php mail() in localhost problem

I need to execute a MMC Snap-in function from the Command Shell of a Windows computer. I need it to schedule this command in the same Windows PC and executes in background. Probably this questions could seem a little bit strange but I have a program that creates a debug log only through its MMC Snap-in console. • Gmail for Googleapps mail delivery issues

  I have a google apps domain running gmail. One of the owners of one of the email accounts is complaining that some emails don't get delivered to him. I sent him an email that did not get to its destination on one hand but I got no NDR on the other hand. I have already checked that the email was not on in his spam folder. The only thing that he has there is a forwarding rule that is also set up to leave the original in place. I am looking for any tools or ideas on how to debug this.

  I have a PowerShell script that deploys about 12 web parts. They have all been created through Visual Studio 2010 and are being deployed to SharePoint 2010. I am getting the following error when running Install-SPSolution for one of my web parts: Install-SPSolution : This solution contains no resources scoped for a Web application and cannot be deployed to a particular Web application. Can someone help me debug this? Every other Install-SPSolution command uses -AllWebApplications, and I do not want to specify the web application directly using -URL.   How do you repair/reinstall Fedora without deleting any existing partitions or data? I was attempting to upgrade some old Fedora 13 servers to 17, following the instructions in the wiki. After the 14-15 upgrade, rebooting resulted in the output: Dropping to debug shell. sh: can't access tty; job control turned off dracut:/# Running dmesg also shows: dracut Warning: No root device "block:/dev/mapper/VolGroup-lv_root" found Googling shows this error is typically related to some weird RAID issues, but my server is a virtual machine not using any RAID. Using a rescue CD, I can chroot /mnt/sysimage, and all packages and data still seems to be there. How do I make the system bootable again?

• Upgrading Fedora 16 to 17 with crypted LVM

  As the title suggests, I want to upgrade Fedora 16 to the Fedora 17 Alpha build, but I am struggling to do so because of my crypted HDD. To avoid the hustle of CD-ROM or USB install, I thought the preupgrade would be a good idea. It downloads the stuff, stores an image somewhere and creates an entry in my boot manager. When I choose to upgrade from the boot manager it crashes halfway through because it can not access any of the prepared files (because it's crypted) and hands me a debug console. Unfortunately, this case apparently is not covered by the Fedora troubleshooting advice, at least I was not able to find anything there. I would guess I have to mount my HDD manually, but 1) how? and 2) how do I resume the upgrade afterwards? I would really appreciate a push in the right direction.

• How do I set "MaxPermSize" for Atlassian Fisheye/Crucible running as service on Win2k3?

  I have been trying to setup Atlassian Fisheye/Crucible as a service on Win 2K3 R2 for two weeks. I keep getting various "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space" errors, which crash Fisheye and force me to restart the service. I've followed the example on the Atlassian support site to configure MaxPermSize within the service wrapper. However, when I check SysInfo inside the Fisheye Admin pages and the debug log, I don't see any confirmation. The Java Heap info is in both places, so I'd expect the MaxPermSize setting to show up in both places. The error is persisting and Atlassian support has been little help. I appreciate any help.

• Run program as admin without entering credentials? (Automatic Win7 elevation)

  I'm working on my systems without admin rights, but I'd like to start sysinternals process explorer as full admin to have some debug access on my machine. Right now I run procexp.exe with parameter /e, which prompts me for admin credentials. Of course I could use runas, but for this I would need to put my admin passwort in clear text in the corresponding batch file, which is something I don't like to do. Is there a way to tell windows that this one procexp.exe is allowed to run as admin without needing to enter the credentials?

• SSH not working after Restoring Running-Config to a Replacement Cisco Router

  One of my Cisco routers died over the weekend, Cisco sent the replacement and I restored the the config using copy tftp: running-config. Everything seems to work fine but I can no longer ssh into the router (I can telnet). The connection is refused, so it isn't listening on port 22 it seems like. I had previously backed up the config by just doing ssh router 'show run' > backup_config from my workstation. So: Is there anything wrong with my method of backup vs copy running-config tftp:? I know I haven't given any debug information, but is there something typical I need to do to get ssh working?

  I need to capture all the traffic, specially during login, between nimbuzz pc client and nimbuzz server. The reason is that i need to debug outgoing packets at login that mark the user visibility status in order to reproduce them in a in-house XMPP client application I've tried doing this with wireshark, but i seem to be pretty helpless with this tool. Also, the packets i've been able to see are all before the SASL negotiation happens, after that, i cannot see the xml packets being exchanged any help for how to achieve this task is greatly appreciated (preferably on Windows, since there is no nimbuzz client for linux, in any case i can install one in a VM and monitor the traffic between the VM instance in the linux host)

I have a few hints to think that it is not: The "Desktop Effects" will not load Apps such as stardock, when attempting to use OpenGL rendering, will display black boxes instead of transparency In the games Pioneers, the number-tile icons are suspiciously just black circles Windows games running with Wine will only support software rendering, not hardware rendering When I boot into a Knoppix LiveCD, the desktop effects do work, splendidly, meaning compiz detects my computer as capable. My problem with troubleshooting is that Canonical has basically eliminated the conf-file-based mechanism of X11 as far as I can tell, thus making it even harder to ensure graphics modules are loading properly. How do I debug and test OpenGL on m Ubuntu 10.04 installation?

• new ubuntu server installation - java server not receiving packets

  I have developed a Java server which listens for UDP packets which come from mobile devices. At the moment, it works correctly if I run my Server on my windows PC. I can receive and respond to the UDP packets sent from my phone (over 3g, not wifi). However, I am trying to run the Server on a different computer which I found lying around my house. I have basically done a clean install of Ubuntu Server edition, updated it, installed the java run time environment and configured port forwarding to allow connections on the appropriate port. I have also tried to disable the firewall. The problem is, it doesn't appear as if the server is receiving any packets and I've exhausted my brain thinking on how to solve/debug the problem. Can anyone suggest to me what the problem might be? or more likely something I can do to help me find out more information about what is going wrong.
