• Microsoft Dynamics CRM -- Do people build websites with it?

  Forgive my ignorance, but do people build websites with Microsoft Dynamics CRM? I have a potential client who says that is the technology they will use for a new web project, for which I would be doing the HTML templating. I want to learn all I can as I am new to this particular system, but I can't seem to find anything related to web building and CRM. Is it more likely the client is developing another piece of technology to work with the CRM that they are neglecting to tell us about? Any experience or insight about this process is greatly appreciated!

• custom button: properties change, button should be redrawn

  Hi I'm developing an Android app. I have class derived from button to represent a special type of button. This special type has some properties (integers) and according to these one or more circles have to be drawn on top of the button. So I overrode the onDraw function, which looks the values up and accordingly draws the circles. But the class has a function to set new values for its properties. So new values are set but the changes are not reflected in the UI. It seems like the onDraw function is not called. When later I click the button or show a pop up message above my interface the onDraw function is called and the button is drawn correctly. So my question: when changing the properties how can I say that the button has to be redrawn? Thanks a lot!

• Where are config files for class libraries physically located?

  My guess is that this question will fall under the category of "duh", but, nevertheless, I'm confused. When using config files in, for example, a Windows Forms Application, the config file can be found in C:\Program files\CompanyName\ProductName\Application.exe.config. However, with the class library I'm developing I do not see a "ClassLibrary.dll.config" file in the install folder after installing it (in tandem with another project) from Visual Studio. Even though I do not see the file anywhere, retrieving data from it works correctly. Plus, running the following code from a method within the class library returns the path you would expect: C:\Program files\CompanyName\ProductName\ClassLibrary.dll.config. I would start with one choicegroup and then based on the answer to this choices give another set of question to the user- Kind of Yes/No- If Yes this question or No this question. How do we do that? • Dataset field DBNull -> int?

  SQLServer int field. Value sometimes null. DataAdapter fills dataset OK and can display data in DatagridView OK. When trying to retrieve the data programmatically from the dataset the Dataset field retrieval code throws a StronglyTypedException error. When the dataset structure is modified (Still developing) my changes (unsurprisingly) are gone. What is the best way to handle this situation? It seems I am stuck with dealing with it at the dataset level. Is there some sort of attribute that can tell the auto code generator to leave the changes in place?

• What WPF frameworks should I use?

  I'm a newbie to WPF and I'm developing a brand new windows desktop application and I would like your opinion on what WPF framework I should use. I know this question has been asked before, but the last question was asked at least several months ago. A lot has changed since then. Right now, I'm using MVVM Light which is more of a library than an actual framework, as the name suggests. I’m looking for something more comprehensive. I prefer a framework that I can use on future WPF projects. Consequently, it should be general purpose and productive. Any insights or suggestions?

• iPhone SDK: am I still allowed to develop with SDK 3.1.3 on Leopard?

  Mac OS X Snow Leopard's been in stores for a while now. Sadly, the Mac that I'll be developing on is still running Leopard, and I don't have admin access to the Mac either so I can't do anything about the OS version. Therefore I can only use iPhone SDK 3.1.3, which we've obtained thanks to this answer, to start building apps on that Mac. Am I still allowed to develop apps with this setup and deploy for iPhone OS 3.x to the App Store? Keyword is allowed because all I've seen so far are technical questions/answers, but I'm not certain if Apple's going to be a jerk and shun me because I can't use a Snow Leopard Mac despite having only started this year (and I don't even want to get started about iPhone SDK 4's revised agreement, not with its NDA still in place...).

  Hi, I'm on the market for a good (and cheap) .Net obfuscator. I'm developing a .Net windows forms application. I evaluated IntelliLock and SmartAssebly so far. I quit the first on lack of support (I sent two emails with no response, no support site, etc). SmartAssebly looks pretty good but is too rich for my blood. Has anyone used CryptoObfuscator? Any good or bad experiences? Once, I have you here, what about CryptoLicensing? Thanks

  I have a jquery content slider on a site I'm developing. I am having a strange problem that seems to be across all browsers and that is the slider slides the wrong distance if the page is refreshed via the refresh button. To re-create the problem please follow these steps - click this link http://www.aus-media.com/dev/site_BYS/index.html then click on the 'About Bikram Yoga' menu item at the bottom. Click on the 'more' and 'back' tabs on this page and you will notice it works fine. Then refresh the page by clicking the refresh button and try the more and back buttons again. • Why are error pages ignored in RESTEasy web service running on Tomcat?

  I'm developing a REST-ful web service using RESTEasy deployed on Tomcat. I've configured an error page which takes the exception's message and generates an XML based on it when any exception occurs during the request. This works fine for any application generated exceptions. However, if client sends an invalid XML which cannot be unmarshalled correctly, an javax.xml.bind.UnmarshalException is thrown and Tomcat's default error page is used instead of mine. I have configured my error page to the error-code 500 in web.xml. Is using error pages the correct way to handle errors when using RESTEasy or is there an alternative way?

• How to prevent DOS attacks using image resizing in an ASP.NET application?

  I'm currently developing a site where users can upload images to use as avatars, I know this makes me sound a little paranoid but I was wondering what if a malicious user uploads an image with incredibly large dimensions that will eat the server memory (as a DOS attack), I already have a limit on the file size that can be uploaded (250 k) but even that size can allow for an image with incredibly large dimensions if the image for example is a JPEG that contains one color and created with a very low quality setting. Taking into consideration that the image is uploaded as a bitmap in memory when being resized (ie. not compressed), I wonder if such DOS attacks occur, even to check the image dimensions it has to be uploaded in memory first, did you hear about any attacks that exploited this? Am I too worried?

• JAX-WS with JAXB tutorial

  I'm getting started in developing web services using JAX-WS. I'm trying to implement classes I can send between my service and client using JAXB, but having trouble getting it to work. I've tried following the example at this site but cannot seem to get it to work. After following the instructions, the test page that's displayed doesn't have any way of defining the Die objects as is suggested by the article. All of this is very new to me, so I'm really not sure where to go. I've checked the WSDL file linked from the test page, and my best guess is that the JAXB is not working properly as I don't see the Die class or its properties mentioned anywhere. A good, fully worked example would be very beneficial. Does anyone know where one can be found? If it's any help, I'm working in Netbeans. Thanks!

• How to setup a DotNetNuke Development Environment with Source Control?

  My team is developing a new DotNetNuke web application and would like to know what is recommended to setup a development environment with source control and automated builds? We would like to keep the DNN source code separate from our custom modules and extensions source code. The DotNetNuke Compiled Module template for Visual Studio wants us to store the source code in the DesktopModules directory of the DNN source code and output to the DNN source code bin directory. Is this the recommended structure? I would rather keep the files in different locations, but then it becomes more difficult to run and debug locally as it would require an install of the module for each change. Also, how should an automated build deploy any changes? How have others set this up? Is there a recommended best practice?

• Using WebParts results in blank page

  Hi, I'm developing an ASP.NET (C#) application using EPiServer CMS 5. On the startpage we have four WebPart-zones and everything works great running it through Visual Studio. When publishing it to the production-server the startpage shows as a blank page, no error what so ever... • Experiences with UI Automation and WPF

  We are developing a rather large WPF based application and would like to include some automated UI testing in our test suite (which already contains a number of unit tests). The UI Automation Framework from Microsoft partly sounds like a perfect fit for programatically launching and interacting with the application in a test setup. However, I've struggled to find solid references for samples and experiences with the technology, the articles and small samples available on MSDN is not enough to convince me that it is a solid choice. So, does anybody have real world experiences using the UI Automation Framework in their test suite? What are the caveats and the gotchas? Any best practices when written tests scripts, can you "record and replay" to a scriptable format, how much should you facilitate the testing from the application, how did you incorporate it in the automatic build? Should we be looking in another direction than the UI Automation Framework? Feel free to post you experiences here or link to some good references I might have missed

I have an http handler that listens in to the requests and does what it needs to do. Problems start when in the handler I need to access information stored in the page , from where the asynchronous call started.   According to Niklaus Wirth, Algorithms + Data Structures = Programs. So I use this as a start point to object-oriented modeling and inheritance design: in a way that I separate the 'Objects' from 'Operations'. then look for patterns and inheritance hierarchy. But now after practice I guess it's not a good idea for every modeling problem, because sometimes it's not effective. (I mean there is no possibility of developing (or is very hard to develop) codes of Turing-Completed languages based on this paradigm.) What is your viewpoint for designing an OOD structure as an experienced programmer?

In my answer to his question (which is related to something else), I told him that I would discourage him from using such an approach, but without giving any real reasons. He is now wanting reasons why it is not a good idea, and I'm using this question to see if the community can come up with a compelling enough list of reasons for him to use another approach, such as one using a dbms, code-reuse, url-rewriting, MVC, and what not.

  Hi, I'm trying to draw an image in an ImageView, but i want it to be unscaled, with scrollbars as necessary. How can I accomplish this? Right now I just have a drawable set as the android:src of the ImageView in the XML. This autoscales the image to fit the screen width. I read that this might be because of the compatibility mode (developing for 1.5, testing on 2.1), but then I added <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="3" android:targetSdkVersion="4" /> to my manifest, and nothing changed. Any clues?

  Hello, I am currently developing a web application that receives data from an on-site oracle database. The database developers have developed some web-services that I am able to call and send/receive data to and from the the database. When I want to display an image the method returns the image in BLOB format. My question is: what is the best way to convert BLOB to .jpg or .bmp so I can display the image correctly?
