• Marker Recognition on Android (recognising Rubik's Cubes)

  Hi everybody. I'm developing an augmented reality application for Android that uses the phone's camera to recognise the arrangement of the coloured squares on each face of a Rubik's Cube. One thing that I am unsure about is how exactly I would go about detecting and recognising the coloured squares on each face of the cube. If you look at a Rubik's Cube then you can see that each square is one of six possible colours with a thin black border. This lead me to think that it should be relativly simply to detect a square, possibly using an existing marker detection API. My question is really, has anybody here had any experience with image recognition and Android? Ideally I'd like to be able to implement and existing API, but it would be an interesting project to do from scratch if somebody could point me in the right direction to get started. • How to incorporate WebSockets into a Cocoa application

  I am developing a Cocoa application which involves a chat element. One approach I've considered is using Websockets to handle client-server communication. This would be particularly desirable because chats will also be displayed on a website, and using Websockets could make the implementation very simple. So: would it be possible to use a WebView element, and use Websockets within it? (I know Safari doesn't support Websockets yet, so I imagine this is not possible?) Failing that, are there any Websocket client libraries for C, Objective C, or any other language I could successfully embed within my application? Suggestions welcomed.

  I'm developing a .NET wrapper for WinPcap called Pcap.Net. I'm trying to make sure this wrapper has high performance and I want to compare it to WinPcap and to other .net wrappers for WinPcap. The features I want to profile are: WinPcap native features (sending packets in different ways, receiving packets in different ways...) Interpreting packets that Pcap.Net knows how to interpret (like Etherent, IPv4, UDP, TCP, ICMP, ...) Building packet that Pcap.Net knows how to build (the same types it knows how to interpret). I also want to be able to profile the benchmark using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate profiling tools. My question is: What should my benchmark exactly do to cover these issues and how would you suggest to build it?

• C# 2008 Express v C# 2010 Express

  Can anybody post a link to a comparison chart, or even to a duplicated question here on SO, for these two products? Plenty of info on what is missing between Express and Pro for example, but I'm struggling to find much on Express v Express. Is the only real difference the ability to develop apps for .NET 4.0? I'm developing WinForms apps, targetting .NET 2.0 at the moment, so are there any benefits for me in changing to 2010 Express? Unfortunately, upgrading to VS Professional or such is not an option for me right now, so I'm stuck with the hamstrung versions. Thanks.

• Automatically enabling an output filter in Apache module

  I am developing a module for Apache which contains an output filter that I would like to always be invoked so that it can determine whether to process the request data or just pass the data along. Since I would like the module to be compatible with Apache 2.0 as well as 2.2, I do not want to use mod_filter. Ideally I would like to do this without having to explicitly enable the filter through the httpd.conf file, but I have so far not been able to find any example of this. Is this at all possible? Can someone please point me to a suitable example?

  Hi All, I am developing my first rails site (yup, i am a rails idiot). I'm writing a blog, and i got to the comments part. I installed acts-as-commentable-with-threading ( GitHub ), i made and ran the migration like the install instructions said. I have added acts_as_commentable to my Posts model and i have a Comments controller When i add @comment = Comment.build_from(params[:id],1, params[:body] ) I get the error. undefined method `build_from' for # Clearly i am doing something terribly wrong, and i don't really get the example. What should i be feeding to build_from? Can somebody explain this plugin step by step? :) Or is there an easier way to get simple threaded comments?

  Hi all, I'm looking to revamp our mobile site with something simple for phones below the ambiguous smart phone category and something a little more interesting for the phones above this category. I'm not interested in WAP/WML for this project. I'm building a ASP.Net 4 MCV 2 app and using MBDF What I'd like to know is how best to define this differentiation when using MBDF? Screen size, Javascript, SpportsTouchScreen etc. are all in MBDF along with others but I'm not sure where to draw the line and where the data is most accurate for the broad number of devices. • AutoMapper and SecurityException in IIS

  Hi everybody... I'm developing a asp.net mvc application with nhibernate and I would not like to expose my objects mappings with NHibernate, so I created DTO for each entity and I'm trying to convert my Domain objects to DTO and send it to View. So I have in my sollution: ClassLibrary with my Domain (for NHibernate) and DTO objetcs Class library to make a SessionFactory adn Factories in my Project Asp.Net MVC 2 Application So, I download AutoMapper to transform Domain objects in DTO and add a the code to do this in Application_Start of global.asax. When I run in VisualStudio (by pressing F5) it works fine and my dtos are into the view, So when I publish this in IIS, I get a security exception =( in first line of conversion: Mapper.CreateMap(); <--- this line throw exception Mapper.CreateMap(); System.Security.SecurityException: Failed request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.ReflectionPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. What can I do to resolve this to work in IIS ? When I will publish it on web server, the error will get too :( Thanks Cheers

• How to stop the android soft keyboard from ever coming up in my entire application

  I'm developing an application on a hardware device that has a built-in hardware keyboard that does not slide out so is always visible (like a blackberry). Therefore, I NEVER want the soft keyboard to display for my entire application. I'm aware of another SO question that gives the following lines of code: InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager)getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE); imm.hideSoftInputFromWindow(myEditText.getWindowToken(), 0); But I don't know where to put this code to hide the soft keyboard in all places where it might possibly appear in my Activity. I have tried adding the code to Activity.onUserInteraction to no avail. It seems the keyboard appears after the onUserInteraction executes.

• Is there anything RAD comparible to VCL?

  After years in embedded programmking, I have to develop a windows app. I dug out my old C++ builder and Delphi. These are great and the latest version costs over $1k, so I won't be going there. What I prarticularly like is the VCL (visual component library) which let's me code my own components and share them with others, plus the thousands of existing 3rd party components. I noticed that there is now also a RAD PHP form Borland too. I realzie that MSVC, QT, NetBEans, etc are good enough IDEs for RAD, _BUT_ does anything offer the ease of the Borland products for developing additional components - and does anything else have thousands to choose from? PC based? Cross-platform is good. Browser based? Free is always good ;-) I don't particularly care about the programming language.

This is the code that calls draw: render: function(ctx){ each(this.blocks,function(index){ this[index].draw(ctx); }); } The context comes from the html page, from the main canvas.

• Java,Tomcat,Sessions - JSessionId disappear

  Hi, I'm having a problem with java sessions. I'm developing a simple web app, where I have to use sessions and session attributes. Everything is fine until I close my browser. When I close my browser the JSessionId disappears. Here's my code: request.getSession().setMaxInactiveInterval(30*60); //it's 30 minutes request.getSession().setAttribute("someinteger", 10); It works great, but when I shut down the browser, and reopen it I can't find the jsessionId (before I closed the browser I could find it in the 'localhost' section). The strange thing is I can still find the "someinteger" cookie. What is the problem? What am I doing wrong? I'm using this, too: link text, and it shows that JSESSIONID cookie expires : "SESSION", and "someinteger" expires in 30 minutes Thanks in advance.

• Oracle .NET Provider DLL hell

  I am currently developing on a Win7-32bits computer. Everything works fine. It's a ASP.NET application. I was able to use Microsoft's Oracle deprecated .NET provider to connect to Oracle (using 32 bit instant client) and also ODP.NET. No problems at all. Application runs fine. The problem comes when I deploy it to IIS7 on Windows 2008 Server 64bit computer. I can't get Microsoft's deprecated .NET provider or ODP.NET to work easily. Is there a straightforward way to use a 32bit based ODP.NET or Microsoft's Oracle deprecated .NET provider in Windows 2008 Server 64bits? DLL hell here! Thanks.

• Can any Palm Pre be used for development?

  We're about to start developing software for the Palm, using WebOS. Though an emulator is available for testing, I always feel more confident seeing it run on a physical device as well. I can't find anywhere on Palm's website that tells me whether I can just buy an off-the-shelf Palm Pre and run my app on it, or if I have to buy one with a particular type of contract/ have it unlocked in some way/ whatever. • Visual Studio .NET 2003 - Ignore Specific Library for libcmt vs libcmtd

  Hi, I have a template VS .NET 2003 project, which colleagues copy and customise when developing their software. It appears the template was altered a while back to set the IgnoreSpecificLibrary property to have libcmt.lib for both release and debug builds (i.e. for both release and debug, the build should ignore libcmt.lib in the linker). Some projects based on this have since been built, with the release build pulling in libcmtd.lib (evident by looking through the project .map file) which appears to have caused some runtime issues (i.e. a dialog window being flashed up as though a breakpoint had been set). Does setting IgnoreSpecificLibrary to exclude libcmt.lib automatically make the project link against libcmtd.lib? What is weird is that building the template (with the incorrect setting) links against libcmt.lib whereas some of the customised projects (though not all) link against libcmtd.lib. Any ideas?

• WCF Certificate issue

  I am developing a WCF service on my local computer using Visual Studios built in ASP.NET development sever and I'm having issues creating and using temporary Certificates. I have created a cert call TempCA and added it to the Trusted Root Certificate folder and I have created another called SignedByCA which has been added to the personal folder. The service config file has been set up to use SignedByCA but when I run the service I get the following error. The certificate 'CN=SignedByCA' must have a private key that is capable of key exchange. The process must have access rights for the private key. I have tried using WinHttpCertCfg.exe to give other users access to the key but I have since found out that WinHttpCertCfg.exe has be deprecated in windows Vista. Has anyone had this issue before in a similar circumstance??

• Django-pyodbc mssql/freetds server connection problems on linux

  Error: ('IM002', '[IM002] [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified (0) (SQLDriverConnectW)') I'm migrating from developing on a windows development machine to linux machine in production and I'm having issues with the freetds driver. As far as I can tell that error message means it can't find the driver. I can connect via the cli via sqsh and tsql. I've setup my settings.py as such. 'bc2db': { 'ENGINE': 'sql_server.pyodbc', 'NAME': 'DataTEST', 'USER': 'appuser', 'PASSWORD': 'PASS', 'HOST': 'bc2.domain.com', 'options': { 'driver': 'FreeTDS', } }, Does anyone have any mssql experience with djano? do I have to use a dns? • Base class for windows service

  My new project has a design in which there are number windows services for performing different tasks. I have been given a task to create base class from which all of the windows service will inherit. This base class will perform common functions like creating instances of other windows services by iterating through the config file (may be like Activator.CreateInstance), do event logging on onStart, onStop etc. and may contain some more functionality. Before I start developing stuff, wondering if there is any pattern already in place or someone has good understanding of how to implement this kind of functionality. Any help appreciated.
