• IE cannot download file with unicode pathname

  I have a web-app that allows users to upload and download image files by pressing buttons on a web page. A user of this page is reporting that IE 7 and 8 fail to download files when the files have Unicode pathnames. IE prompts the user with a dialog stating: "Internet explorer cannot download (file) at (webserver).". Unfortunately I have not been able to reproduce the problem using these versions on my machine. My question is, what could cause this, and how can I prevent it from happening? I have read about problems with cache control (I currently have it set to no-cache); however, I am not using HTTP-S, and the problem only occurs with file-names containing Unicode characters.

  I Am trying to connect to a method in my controller, with a button. I can connect though this link: @Html.ActionLink("Print", "Print", new { id = Model.SalesContractId}) But i Don't want a link, i want my button on my dialog to do it.   VS2008, 32 Bit Win XP In a class derived from CFrameWnd, I have an object of CDialogBar that needs to have certain controls on it. Among these controls would be 2 sliders, whose event handling is to be done in CFrameWnd derived class. How shall I go about this? class CFrameWndCustom : public CFrameWnd { CDialogBar m_wndDialogBar; // the CDialogBar object. } In CFrameWnd derived class's OnCreateClient, I have created the DialogBar using the above object like: //Create the DialogBar if (!m_wndDialogBar.Create(this, IDD_DIALOGBAR_CONTROL, CBRS_BOTTOM, IDD_DIALOGBAR_CONTROL)) { TRACE("Warning: Couldn't create DialogBar Control!\n"); return FALSE; } Here, IDD_DIALOGBAR_CONTROL is a dialog resource with Style as Child. After this, I drag-dropped a CSliderCtrl on the IDD_DIALOGBAR_CONTROL in Resource View. Now, how/where should I handle the CSliderCtrl's events? There would be 2 such slider controls. • How to Print reports in Silvelright 4

  I am wondering if there is anything built in to Silverlight, or possibly c# to allow for printing reports? I'd be happy with any number of methods: exporting files to a pdf format and printing from there, exporting as a text document of some sort and printing from there, or just simply showing the print dialog from the web application itself. I know there are ways to do this in C#, but the c# code-behind is different for many things in Silverlight applications and I can't seem to find anything that will work. So if anyone has any ideas on things I could try it would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

• With google maps, can you use google's own popup windows?

  I've implemented a google map with points and stuff that uses an address that the user inputs. When you click a point, the popup bubble appears with the name and address in. Often this name and address is a prominent location, as it's used for meetings and things, such as a university. If you google the address yourself on maps.google.co.uk then you get google's own popup bubble, which often has a photo, information, opening hours, links to directions, reviews, etc. etc. I am wondering if there's a way to use that popup dialog instead of my own, where it is available. I can't see anything in the API to do this. I'm using V2 as we support IE6 in a lot of our users, but I've been told recently I can upgrade to V3 should I need functionality from it. Any ideas?

• Win32: Reading WS_VSCROLL style from a combo box (or list box)

  I'm iterating through the controls in a dialog and I'm trying to determine if a combobox was created with the WS_VSCROLL style. The style, obtained from GetWindowLong(hwnd, GWL_STYLE), doesn't contain the WS_VSCROLL bit (0x200000), even when I know it was set on create. Clarification: I am looking to see if the ComboBox was created with the WS_VSCROLL style. Calling GetWindowLong() (or using spy++) to get the style of the combo's listbox will include WS_VSCROLL if a scrollbar is needed to based on the current contents of the list. I am trying to determine if the ComboBox was created with WS_VSCROLL, not if a scrollbar is currently visible.

• Private Accessor for method is not found

  I'm getting this error when generating a new unit test under Visual Studio 2010 using the context menu (right-click the method name - "Generate Unit Tests"): Private Accessor for methodName is not found. Please rebuild the containing project or run the Publicize.exe manually. The method is public (checked that by applying applying a filter to not show non-public methods in the "Generate Unit Tests" dialog. Visual Studio creates some kind of .accessor file automatically. Do I need to do anything in it? What else could be the problem?

• Response.BinaryWrite calls the ASPX page twice

  I am trying to open a file in the browser using BinaryWriter. This causes the a dialog window to open and prompt the user to save or open the file. That behavior is fine; however, if I select open, the aspx page is called again and after a long wait the file finally opens. • CSV file download ignored in ie8/9

  I have some code in a button click event which gets a csv string from a hidden input and writes it to the response as a CSV file. This work fine in Chrome, Firefox, ie7, ie9 in quirks mode. However it does not work in ie8 or ie9 default. Looking at this in fiddler the csv is being written to the response but the another get request is being made immediately after and the page reloads. • More swing design & actions

  Im pretty new to gui programming so i've been reading through every post on this site about swing and design. Whats been answered over and over again is that one should have a class which handles all the action. Like this: (GUI being some JFrame) Now, this works great for one-way actions, like OpenDialog. But the actions for buttons in DialogA and B will have to have access to all the components (there will be many) in its dialog, and the controller. This is where im stuck. The only sane way i can see is to put it in DialogA/B but i would then need to pass the controller all the way down, through classes that dont even need it, and it'll get all spaghetti. Really dont want that. Someone must have encountered this problem before. So where should i put this Action? Or should i just drop the whole design?

• Issues with start activity for result

  I have written an Activity using Theme.Holo.Dialog so that it works as an AlertDialog as a login/password notice. I've started this activity with startActivityForResult(...) using a request code I defined. The thing is, whenever I start the activity ´onActivityResult(...)´ is triggered immediately, the buttons get loaded and everything, but once I press them, even though I know the Activity is working because login does happen, there is no result sent back to the first Activity and I am calling setResult(...) and finish() after the buttons are pressed. Thanks in advance, first time using startActivityForResult so I'm sure I must be missing something.

• Java Authenticator on a per connection basis?

  I'm building an Eclipse plugin that talks to a REST interface which uses Basic Authentication. When the authentication fails I would like to popup my plugin's settings dialog and retry. Normally I could use the static Authenticator.setDefault() to setup an authenticator for all HttpURLConnection's for this, but since I am writing a plugin I don't want to overwrite Eclipse's default Authenticator (org.eclipse.ui.internal.net.auth); I thought of setting my custom Authenticator before loading and putting Eclipse's default back afterwards, but I imagine this will cause all sorts of race issues with multithreading so I quickly lost that notion. Google searches yield all sorts of results basically telling me it's not possible: The Java URLConnection API should have a setAuthenticator(Authenticator) method for making it easier to use this class in multi-threaded context where authentication is required. Source If applications contains few third party plugins and each plugin use its own Authenticator what we should do? Each invocation of "Authenticator.setDefault()" method rewrite previously defined Authenticator... Source Are there any different approaches that might help me overcome this issue?

• Codeigniter: How to handle direct link to controller/function/param?

  I have a simple controller function which deletes a DB entry (it uses a model function to do so). I have a link to this in one of my views (e.g. http://www.example.com/item/delete/3) and I’m using jQuery to display a confirm dialog to make sure the user really wants to delete it. All fine. However if you just enter that URL in your browser the item is deleted without warning. Is there a way to handle this either in the way I code the controller function or in the model?

  How would I force the current thread to wait until another has finished before continuing. • Issuew while checking in in TFS client explorer 2005

  We have recently installed Team Explorer client for 2005 and TFS server 2008.. We have been using VS2005 and VSS earlier. To connect to TFS server 2008 we have installed a hotfix VS80sp1-KB932544-X86-ENU.exe. Everything has been setup well. However I noticed that when the files are checked out and u make some modifications , during checking in resolve confict dialog box asking to merge changes done by others isn't appearing. Instead the file is getting checked in overwriting the changes done by others. Is there some setting that needs to be done on TFS server 2008? Kindly help.

  Hi, I would like to know if it is possible in rails to run some test cases through my application. I mean, i want show the test results to users. So i was thinking to be able to call my tests through a controller and put the tests output in a dialog. Imagine that i'm doing an application where before to apply a rule, i want to run some validation tests. I could write methods in my rule model to do it, but i would like to use something like shoulda or any other kind of DSL where the "fixture" would be a record itself. Any tip or idea?

• How can I filter out the "My Computer"-option in a SWT DirectoryDialog?

  Hello *, in our Eclipse RCP application running on Windows XP we use a DirectoryDialog, in which the user should... ahmm... choose a directory! :D The problem is: If the user selects the "My Computer"-option (in German Windows "Arbeitsplatz") the Dialog returns null. The DirectoryDialog provides a method setFilterPath(String path) in which I put the File.pathSeparatorChar (to remain OS-independant). My suggestion was that if there has to be a file separator in the directory the "My Computer"-option would be ignored cause it is null - for example the "OK"-button would be greyed out or sth. like that... but it is also valid to klick "OK". • VS2010 (older) installer project - two or more objects have the same target location.

  This installer project was created back in 2004 and upgraded ever since. There are two offending dll files, which produce a total of 4 errors. I have searched online for this warning message and did not find a permanent fix (I did manage to make it go away once until I have done something like a clean, or built in Release, and then in Debug). I also tried cleaning, and then refreshing the dependencies. The duplicated entries are still in there. I also did not find a good explanation for what this error means. Additional warnings are of this nature: Warning 36 The version of the .NET Framework launch condition '.NET Framework 4' does not match the selected .NET Framework bootstrapper package. Update the .NET Framework launch condition to match the version of the .NET Framework selected in the Prerequisites Dialog Box. So, where is this prerequisites box? I want to make both things agree on .Net 4.0, just having a hard time locating both of them.

• MessageBox not shown when opened processing WM_CLOSE from taskbar thumbnail close button

  Trying to put up a "Do you want to save"-dialog when trying to close window with close-button in taskbar thumbnail in windows 7(with aero peek active). Using MessageBox() when processing WM_CLOSE does not work. MessageBox won't show until you move mouse cursor outside thumbnail so aero peek is disabled. Lots of applications have this buggy behaviour so it's probably a design flaw in Windows 7, but for some programs it works (Word, Notepad, Visual Studio, ...), so I'm wondering what trick they are using(or what it takes to "exit" aero peek-mode programmatically). The small "Sound Recorder" application that comes with Windows 7 has the same problem (if you have recorded something without saving and try to close it using thumbnail close-button)...

• UI: where to display a status result from a drag & drop?

  So I've got drag & drop working. When a drop occurs, I do some processing, and sometimes there is a result that I want to make the user aware of. Right now I am just outputting to the console which isn't very nice. What's an appropriate way to display a status result from a drag & drop? Somehow a modal dialog box seems inappropriate, and a status bar is too space-constrained, I think.

• How can I determine new & previous cell value on SheetChange event in Excel?

  I have some special cells in my Excel workbooks which are managed by my Excel Add-in. I want to prevent users from changing content of those cells, but I also want to know, what value users wanted to enter to those cells. On the SheetChange event I can check what users entered to my special cells, but how do I determine the PREVIOUS value in those cells and REVERT user changes? It is not a solution for me. If I lock cell in Excel, it becomes read-only - user can not even try to enter anything to this cell - Excel popups warning dialog in this case. My problem is that I want to catch what user entered to my cell, do something with this value, and then revert cell content to original value.
