• Installing SSL certs with nginx on Amazon EC2

  I finally got a cert from an authority and am struggling to get things working. I've created the appropriate combined certificate (personal + intermediate + root) and nginx is pointing to it. I got an elastic IP and connected it to my EC2 instance. My DNS records point to that IP. But when I point the browser to the hostname, I get the standard "Connection Untrusted" bit, with ssl_error_bad_cert_domain. Port 443 is open - I can get to the site over https if I ignore the warning. Weird thing is, under technical details, it lists the domain I tried to access as valid! When I try and diagnose with ssl testing sites, they don't even detect a certificate! What am I missing here? domain is yanlj.coinculture.info. Note I've got coinculture.info running on a home server without a dedicated IP and have the same problem, but I'll be moving that to the same EC2 instance as soon as I figure this thing out. I thought the elastic IP would solve things but it hasn't

• Freebsd Box hangs on boot loader

  I have a freebsd box that seems to not want to boot past the boot loader. It wont go past the initial boot loader phase and just lists the version number for the boot loader(btx loader). It hangs there. I am not a fluent freebsd admin and decent at command line, however I can tell clearly it wont get past and boot past the disk. Loaded up rescue cd, mounted the drive. Couldnt get fsck going without seg faulting How do i get this fixed? I have a live cd.... just curious which route to take.

• Need to create street maps images with route plotted from address 1 to address 2

  I'm looking for software to create street map images that show the route from address 1 to address 2. It needs to be able to create the map images from either a database file that contains the addresses, a delimited text file that lists the addresses to route in each row, or an Excel file. I need to do this to create custom maps in bulk- 500 to 20,000 quantity from the data file. The purpose is to provide a map with a route from a location (address 1) to a retail store (address 2). The maps will be printed on a postcard. I have the data. I just need the mapping software. Is there software available that can do this?

• Re-downloading Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard because of license issues?

  I have many clients who have purchased Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard. Unlike other Microsoft software, there is not a serial number provided for each customer to install the software. Futhermore, Microsoft's TechNet website lists this information about SQL Server instead of providing a key: "This product is pre-pidded." This means that the configuration file for SQL server contains your serial number instead of manually entering it. My question is then: does this serial change for each customer? The reason I ask: I'd rather not download a 3.2GB disc image over and over again for each of my customers individually. But, I don't want to risk using the same image over and over again resulting in Microsoft banning the serial for over use (as opposed to each customer using their copy with THEIR serial number.)   How would one (download and) convert HTML-structures into EPUB (or any other format suitable for the Sony PRS-505 reader)? My question is not how to convert a single HTML file into an EPUB file, as this is easy; what I mean is, I have some books I want to read on my Sony PRS-505 and these books are most often online in HTML format but withmany interlinked pages and there is one page with the list of contents, like this example http://www.edge.org/documents/ThirdCulture/d-Contents.html ... or sometimes it's a little bit more complicated as the list of contents only lists the chapters, and inside the chapters there are links to sub-chapters, like in this example: http:SLASHSLASHwww.hyw.com/Books/WargamesHandbook/Contents.htm (I can only post 1 hyperlink now b/c of user restriction, so this is why there is SLASHSLASH instead of //) I want to convert these examples and several others, with correct chapters, images and some acceptable formatting etc, so basically I want to make a proper ebook out of the HTML-tree. • Adding user to chroot environment

  I've created a chroot system in my Ubuntu using schroot and debrootstrap, based on minimal ubuntu. However whenever I can't seem to add a new user into this chroot environment. Here is what happens. I enter schroot as root and add a new user.(Tried both adduser and useradd commands) The username lists up in /etc/passwd file and I can 'su' into the new user. So far so good. When I log out of schroot, and re-enter schroot, the user I created has vanished!! There is no mention of that user in /etc/passwd either. How do I make the new user permanent?

• Forwarding emails to nonexisting users/aliases to external mail server

  I'm in the works of installing a postfix mailserver on a machine currently being used as web server. As of right now, I've got it working as far as that I can send and receive emails using telnet through port 25. However, as my customer is concerned with downtime, I'd like to setup all the accounts one by one over time, and making sure it works, rather than just cutting the cord to the old mail server and start creating new accounts on the new system. How can I add the domain customer.com to my mail server and just add something like [email protected] to the users and aliases-lists without the web server trying to send all emails with the @customer.com domain to the new mail server? I'm running ubuntu, using postfix and postfix-mysql on the new machine, the old mail server is on a hosted environment somewhere else, where I don't have any control.

• Recommendation for Wiki that supports WYSIWYG?

  Currently we use a MediaWiki installation for writing documentation, but several of us find the markup format horribly arbitrary and awkward, with a mixture of Wiki tags and XML in the text, and the lack of any quick formatting buttons for things like ordered or unordered lists, different heading levels, quick embedding of images, tables, code samples, etc. Sites like LiveJournal provide most or all of this while still generating backwards-compatible markup so it's not like there's a technological impediment here. There are other niceties that we'd like to see, such as being able to pick a category from a list (ala Wordpress) or maybe being able to apply syntax highlighting to code samples, etc. Do Wikis exist that provide a decent range of these features to make life easier on the editor? Something with the features and presentation of WordPress but the page organisation of a Wiki would be perfect. (WikiMatrix returns several candidates, but among them is MediaWiki, which quite clearly is not a WYSIWYG interface except in the most tenuous fashion. I'd rather not dig through each one if it's plain that WikiMatrix is not being entirely stringent about its criteria.)

  So - Android is build on top of a stripped down linux system. Most of the convenient utilities are missing but all the basics are there. I can call insmod and rmmod. No problem. But where do kernel-modules and firmware files reside? I can't find any. there is no /lib/modules in the standard distribution. Problem: I need modules. For sure don't want to compile support for each and every usb-device in the world into the linux-kernel. Where should I put them?

  How does sticky sessions relate to HTTP and HTTPS; If I place a load balancer in front of some web app servers that run a front end that supports HTTPS, will the sessions remain "sticky" on a typical load balancer that lists "stick sessions" as one of it's supported features? I understand that question is partly open ended; To clarify, would I require a load balancer that supports sticky HTTPS session specifical or is "sticky sessions" a principal that functions agnostic of the HTTP payload, be it encrypted or not?   I'm a programmer trying to fill a big hole in my understanding of networking basics. I've been reading a good book (Networking Bible by Sosinki) but I have been finding that there is a lot of "assumed" information contained, where terms/concepts are thrown at the reader without a proper introduction to them. I understand that a "route" is a path through a network. But I am struggling with visualizing some routing-based concepts. Namely: How do routes actually manifest themselves in the hardware? Are they just a list of IP addresses that get computed at the network layer, and then executed by the transport? What kind of data exists in a so-caleld routing table? Is a routing-table just the mechanism for holding these lists of IP address (read above)? What are the performance pros/cons for having a static route, as opposed to a dynamic route?

• XNA Music mixing real-time

  I've created a "format" to store segments of music (prelude part, repeated part, ending part) and time information for these segments (offset, scored length) so I can mix it up in real-time as if it were one piece of music, while repeating the repeated part (optionally) indefinitely. This way, the segments can store decay where the next segment is played, while the previous one is finished. (I've created a player for this in Java, and used the Clip class.) I wanted this format, so I can provide a finite length music (for a jukebox feature), while I play infinite length music in-games. However, when I wanted to code a class in XNA that manages this "format" I've noticed, that there is no obvious way to play "Songs" simultaneously/overlapped. How can I do this/what is the best practice, not leaving the XNA framework? (I don't want to create infinite play-lists.)

• Move samba and ldap config to new machine

  I'm not advanced administrator so this may be n00b question but I'll be grateful for help. I have following problem: I have to move my server (ubuntu server) from old machine to new. I have samba & ldap on old server, so I've copied the configuration files from the old machine to new machine, made smbldap-populate, and when I use smbldap-userlist on the new machine it lists all users from the old machine. But when I try to log in as any of these users, or show its id (id username) I get no such user error. What more I have to do to use these accounts on the new machnie?

• flex open source sdk compile error of samples on linux

  I downloaded lastest version of flex open source sdk. I wanted to compile some samples specifically explorer example. At first build.sh gave me weird error and with little search I nailed it by converting all bash files and mxml files with dos2unix. It is file type error. However now I get this error ./build.sh Error: Could not resolve <mx:Script> to a component implementation. <mx:Script> When I execute build.sh, some of the samples give this weird error. I searched this error on the net, their solution is to add -Duser.language=en -Duser.region=US as jre parameters. However, this solution is for Turkish Windows XP. My system is Pardus, yet another linux distribution.

I have relation n:n through table colporteur_in_rayons witch have attributes since_date and _until_date. • Internet Explorer defaults to 64-bit version

  My IE8 has suddenly started defaulting to the 64-bit version. I have no idea how or why this has happened, but I suspect it might be linked to the Browser Choice Screen that Microsoft was recently forced to display by EU law. However, many web sites will not display correctly in IE8 x64 (eg. sites that use Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight). I have the 32-bit version of IE pinned to my taskbar and if I launch it manually, everything is fine. But when I click on a URL from another program and IE is not already running, then the 64-bit version gets launched. This really messes with programs like BBC iPlayer which rely heavily on Adbobe Air and Flash. So, how do I get IE8 32-bit version to be the default version again? I've tried using the "default programs" control panel and that doesn;t make any difference (in fact, it doesn't give the choice between x84 and x64 versions, it just lists "internet explorer").

• Can't get powershell to return where results from GCI using ACL

  I'm trying to get Powershell to list files in a directory that are older than a certain date and match a certain user. I've got the below script so far which gives me all the files older than a certain date and lists the directory and who owns them: $date=get-date $age=$date.AddDays(-30) ls '\\server\share\folder' -File -Recurse | ` where {$_.lastwritetime -lt "$age"} | ` select-object $_.fullname,{(Get-ACL $_.FullName).Owner} | ` ft -AutoSize However, when I try and use an additional where parameter to select only files owned by a certain user, I get no results at all, even though I know I should, based on the match I'm trying to obtain (as below): $date=get-date $age=$date.AddDays(-30) ls '\\server\share\folder' -File -Recurse | ` where ({$_.lastwritetime -lt "$age"} -and {{(get-acl $_.FullName).owner} -eq "domain\user"}) | ` select-object $_.fullname,{(Get-ACL $_.FullName).Owner} | ` ft -AutoSize Am I missing something? • Windows XP does not list WPA wireless networks

  What can be the reason that Windows XP does not show WPA-encrypted wireless networks? The laptop I have problems with is an older model (Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100) with Windows XP SP3 on it, fresh install. The wireless network card in it is an Agere product that lists as "Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card". The networks showed up perfectly before I first tried to connect to one (it was set to WPA2). The connection failed (the card supports WPA only), then something must have happend and Windows hides these networks now. A manually configured WPA setup via Windows' own wizard works, I'm using it right now. The network just won't show up in the list of available network on its own. I suspect that XP incorrectly set a flag somewhere that this network card does not support WPA. Is there such a flag, and if so, how can I change it back?

• HDMI Audio drops out when display enters powersave

  I have a Windows 8 machine with an AMD APU attached to my Home Theater system through HDMI (HDMI routes through a Home Theater AMP, then into the TV). Here's my problem, Whenever the display is interrupted, usually by the TV being turned off or into powersave mode, the audio device lists as "Disconnected" in windows audio devices and I cant get it to re-recognize that the HDMI audio is, in fact, plugged in. The only solution I have found so far is to restart the machine, which will then recognize the device without any problems, until the next time the TV turns off and the problem once again resurfaces. Has anyone else seen this phenomenon? I have no idea if its the GPU, the HDMI interface, the AMP, or even the TV itself, as there really isn't much a way to tell...

• Alternatives to amavis for RAM-bound server

  I'm running a small VPS server that works as web and mail server. It has only 256MB of RAM, and it's sucking 100MB of swap constantly. I've found that one of the culprits is amavis, taking about 30MB of resident memory, and would like to ditch it and use some alternative. I don't have much mail daily, so it being a bit slower wouldn't be a problem. I'd like to avoid Spamassassin altogether, if possible, because it's quite big even if used in offline mode. I'm already using RBLs and a few small blacklists, and used greylisting for a while but abandoned it because it gave me a few problems (don't remember which; I think it was related to not configuring properly white lists for several big ISPs). So, is there some alternative to amavis that I could use without much RAM (and if possible, CPU) usage? Thanks in advance.

  I have the following command that lists all files with the extension doc, docx, etc. find . -maxdepth 1 -iname \*.doc\* The command returns numerous files some of which I would like to delete. So for example the results returned are Example.docx Dummydata.doc Sample.doc I would like to delete Sample.doc and Dummydata.docx. How do I delete the files using the -exec option. Am I able to pass in the names of the files e.g. rm Dummydata.docx Sample.doc hence the command would look as follows find . -maxdepth 1 -iname \*.doc\* -exec rm Dummydata.docx Sample.doc Can I pass the names of the files within {} afterrm`? e.g. find . -maxdepth 1 -iname \*.doc\* -exec rm {Dummydata.docx} Sample.doc Is there a better way of doing it?

• Bulding an multi-platform SWT application using Ant

  I'm writing an SWT application which can be used on Windows (32/64 bit) and Mac OSX (32/64 bit). Apart from the JRE I rely on the SWT library found here. I can find four versions of the SWT library depending upon my target platforms (as mentioned above). When building my application, how can I compile using the correct SWT Jar? If possible, I'd like to try and avoid hard-coding the Jar version, platform and architecture. The SWT Jars are named like this: swt-win32-x86_64.jar swt-win32-x86_32.jar swt-macosx-x86_32.jar swt-macosx-x86_64.jar (My project will be an open source project. I'd like people to be able to download the source and build it and therefore I've thought of including all the four versions of the SWT Jars in the source distribution. I hope this is the correct approach of publishing code relying on third-part libraries.) Thanks everyone.

Here's things I've covered; No memory leaks Tested performance on an actual device Doesn't crash :) Using correct certificates / profile What I'm a little unsure about are how to configure the "Bundle Display Name" /"Bundle Identifier" and "Bundle Name" in info.plist. I understand the first is the text that's shown on the iPhone itself, but what about the last? Does this have to match Bundle Identifier? Are there any other things I should add to the info.plist? I've noticed that when built for Adhoc distribution my app does not have any author/title information in iTunes.

• Belkin Wireless G router not working on Windows 7

  I have a Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G router which used to work on XP. I have a clean Windows 7 install (on the same desktop PC), and it just won't work. Device Manager lists the adapter as a USB device, but it says "The drivers for this device are not installed", even though the driver installer said the installation was OK. Manage Wiresless Networks says "wireless is not currently enabled". The WLAN AutoConfig service is running. My specific question is which of the two symptoms above should I go for first? Should I try to fix the driver installation somehow, or should I try to enable wireless? Is one caused by the other, or is this two independent problems? Any other thoughs that could help me are also appreciated.

• How to run an executable as a system service?

  I've got a file and data distribution application written in .NET 2.0 I've written similar to Steam. This application will need to run in Windows 7 and will need to be able to run and install applications that require administrator rights. However the users will not have admin rights. My thought was to run the application as a Local System Service. I figured by doing this the application could perform admin rights actions (registry edits, launching apps, etc) when the user isn't an admin. Are my assumptions correct? What steps do I need to take to have this app install as a Local System Service? An Administrator will be installing the application but it will be run by a user without Administrator rights.
