  • How can I list the properties of an object programmatically in VB6?

    A friend of mine is working on a legacy VB6 project. I haven't touched that language in ten years, so I'm pretty rusty. Anyway, is there any kind of reflection API for VB6? Specifically, he needs a way to iterate the properties (and types) of a user-created Class. (In other words, not an external COM object, but an internal "Class Module" as it's called.) How can this be done?

  • Auto convert java source to use generic rather than raw types

    Is there a way/tool to auto convert Java source code from using raw types to using generic types? I have some legacy code with 677 references to raw types: ArrayList 47 Vector 420 Hashtable 61 Enumeration 64 Class 7 Iterator 78 TOTAL 677 Now I could manually look through the code to infer the generic types and replace, but that is going to take a long time.

  • What's the right way to communicate between 2 or more .Net applications running on a same computer w

    If my applications run on a same computer or even on different computers in a same LAN and need intense and quick communication, it seems illogical for me to use text-encoded web services and HTTP. I could possibly use IP/TCP/UDP sockets and invent my own protocols, but believe there is a standard way for .Net applications to send/receive object instances (and, maybe, even sharing an object by reference?). Can you tell me what's that standard way? I am only interested in .Net Framework 4 applications and don't need to support legacy frameworks.

  • Can I use MSBUILD to investigate which dependency causes a source unit to be recompiled?

    I have a legacy C++ application with a deep graph of #includes. Changes to any header file often cause recompiles of seemingly unrelated source files. The application is built using a Visual Studio 2005 solution (sln) file. Can MSBUILD be invoked in a way that it reports which dependency(ies) are causing a source file to be recompiled? Is there any other tool that might be able to help?

    Implementing agile in projects requires the ability to do refactoring. It is not really a must, but code refactoring has proven to be a good engineering practice. In an agile (Scrum) project on the iSeries platform, which requires development (new code and modifications to legacy code) in RPG, RPG LE, is it possible to implement refactoring? If so what are the techniques to do it? If someone who has tried it could share their experience or just point to references, I would greatly appreciate it.

But perhaps too general and feature-rich... multiple inheritance, operator overloading, manual memory management, templates, smart pointers, virtual destructors, legacy frameworks (think MFC), and I could just go on.     For one of my clients I'm currently building an application that communicates with a legacy Microsoft Access database. Migrating to SQL server is unfortunately not (yet) an option. I currently write the queries using OleDbConnection, OleDbCommand and –good old- text based queries. As you can imagine I'm a bit spoiled by using modern O/RM tools and I feel like I went back in time. Which O/RM tool supports Microsoft Access so I can get rid of this uglyness?

    We have successfully migrated all of our PHP and Ruby apps to use New Relic RPM both for Application performance measurements and server monitoring. We are very please with results, which have enabled us to improve the overall performance of the platfrom numeral times. We still have a lot of Perl applications which we need to support for legacy purposes, but in comparison to our New Relic powred apps we are completely blind to whats happening inside the apps and in peak hours. Is there something like "New Relic" for Perl apps?

  • Delphi exe, will it run with just BDE configuration?

    Hi, I've taken over a legacy application and I have the exe created. If I can configure the BDE then in theory it should be possible to run this. Someone indicated that Delphi needs to be installed in order for the app to run. I'm unsure of that - it doesn't quite make sense to me as there is an exe file. Here is what I came up with: declare @ymd int set @ymd = 20101122 select @ymd, convert(datetime, cast(@ymd as varchar(100)), 112) This is pretty good solution but I'm wandering if someone has better way doing it

However, this mechanism requires the model to implement IDeferredWorkbenchAdapter interface, which introduces problem to my legacy immutable model classes. Is it possible to use DeferredTreeContentManager without having model implementing IDeferredWorkbenchAdapter interface?

    Hi, I've been working with a Legacy application which interacts with a database through ADODB, and most of the changes to records follow a fairly straightforward pattern of: Create a Recordset from a query Make various change to the recordset call .Update on the recordset. What I'm wondering is, with ADODB recordsets, is there anyway to extract the 'changes'. The logic which changes the recordset is scattered about, and all I need is the changes, not how it was changed... Any suggestions for tracking changes in a recordset (in code, a trigger on the DB or similar is no use here) Thanks in advance

  • CSS3 new features...whats the point?

    I've been reading a lot of ways recently of how to avoid having to use Photoshop for things like gradients and shadows on buttons, when you can use CSS3 Box Shadow for such features. Now this is great, but obviously legacy browsers and most IE browsers don't yet implement CSS3 features, so my question is, why save yourself extra work in Photoshop when you can use CSS3 but then HAVE to use Photoshop for other browsers to see the desired effects? Isn't that just extra work?
