• I am trying to install Kubuntu, but I get a metalink error

  It looks like the ISO metalink is broken for the Kubuntu install from Wubi. Can you please fix this? Or, help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. • Fluxbox startup file not working

  I am placing apps into my fluxbox startup file as per the instructions, however nothing starts up except fluxbox. • New "delay" keyword for JavaScript

  I had a great idea for a new javascript keyword "delay", but I don't know what I can do to bring it to the new specification. Also I want to know what you guys think about it and if it's even realistic. What does the delay keyword ? The delay keyword does nothing more than stop the execution of the current stack and immediately continues to the next "job" in the queue. But that's not all! Instead of discarding the stack, it adds it to the end of the queue. After all "jobs" before it are done, the stack continues to execute. What is it good for? delay could help make blocking code non-blocking while it still looks like synchronous code. A short example: setTimeout(function(){ console.log("two"); },0); console.log("one"); delay; //since there is currently another task in the queue, do this task first before continuing console.log("three"); //Outputs: one, two, three This simple keyword would allow us to create a synchronous-looking code wich is asynchronous behind the scenes. Using node.js modules, for example, would no longer be impossible to use in the browser without trickery. There would be so many possibilites with such a keyword! Is this pattern useful?   I am having repeated and frequent crashes ending session whenever I take certain actions such as loading gmail under Chrome. Oddly, the same is not happening when I go to gmail under Chrome. • Can't shutdown Ubuntu (Wubi Installation)

  I downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 using Wubi. The installation went correctly and everything was working fine until I tried to shutdown. I clicked shutdown and then Ubuntu started shutdown, but as soon as I saw the Ubuntu logo with blank dots under, it froze. I had to perform a hard shutdown. After booting my computer back and going into Ubuntu, I tried shutting it down again but this time it took me on a black page with lots and lots of log writing on the screen and after a little while, it stopped writing stuff. I was able to input characters using the keyboard and everything, but it never shutdown. I had to perform a hard shutdown again. Now it always gives me a Ubuntu logo and freezes. What should I do? I know hard shutdowns are bad and want to avoid them. Is there anyway to make shutdowns work? I tried a reboot and it also froze on the Ubuntu logo. Sony VAIO Model E SVE17115FDB Laptop. Graphic card - AMD RADEON HD 7650M (and it installed correctly in Ubuntu). BIOS - H2O Bios. Processor - Intel i7-3612QM. Edit: I only installed the AMD/ATI proprietary drivers FGLRX, not the AMD/ATI post release drivers because they keep showing an error message. Here is jockey.log. • Bandwidth monitor for apache websites

  I am after a web application that will parse apache log files and record how much bandwidth the user has used. We have several virtual hosts that have custom log files and the I/O is recorded at the end of the logfile. However I can't find an application that will parse multiple log files and display a summary for each site. I believe awstats can do this but I want to be able to see all of my clients in one list. If there is something that integrates into cacti then that would be perfect.

• Apache connection intermittantly times out on LAN

  I'm using Fedora 12 with Apache 2.2.14, and I was having this error on 2.2.13 as well. Even when I connect to my server over LAN, Firefox will occasionally time out while connecting. I can't figure out what is causing this. The error log isn't showing anything. I even cleaned the error log file, so that if something happened, it'd be a little easier to spot. But I'm still getting time outs, and nothing in the error log. Can anybody help me find what the problem is? Here is my httpd.conf Pastebin It's the default Fedora configuration; I've only changed the ServerName if I remember correctly. I'm pretty sure it's not the Timeout setting, because on LAN it should never time out. I don't believe it's a load issue either, I'm the only one connecting to it. I'm not an Apache expert, so if more information is needed I'll need some instructions on how to get that data.

• local user cannot access vsftpd server

  I'm currently running a vsftpd server and I added the necessary configurations in vsftpd.conf so that local users can use clients like FileZilla to manage their homes in a server. • Set Default Program for All Users on Server

  I work with a large server environment that's running Windows Server 2003, 2008, and 2012 now on some boxes. We have a custom-built log viewer program that associates with two file types that I'd like to set to be the default program for all users across all boxes, so new users don't have to set the default program themselves on every box they log into. Ideally I'd like to have a simple registry script we could push out to all machines at once. I realize this likely means changing the registry entries for either HKCR or HKLM for the file extensions, but adding the program location with %1 extension to \shell\open\command value in HKLM simply opens the program and does not also load the log file. Am I just missing an open and play setting, or am I looking at this entirely wrong? (And I know the script will need to be different for 2003 and 2008, but changing the version for two scripts isn't hard) Thanks!

I have tried many other things, double checked my settings and all seems fine. So I'm wondering whether I am not expecting nginx's cache to do something it's not meant to...? Basically, I thought that if one of my static files in my container was updated, the cache in my reverse proxy would be invalidated and my browser would get the new version of the file when it requests it... But I now have the sentiment I misunderstood many things. Of all things, I now wonder how nginx on the server can know about a file in the container has changed? I have seen a directive proxy_header_pass (or something alike), should I use this to let the nginx instance from the container somehow inform the one in Proxmox about updated files? Is this expectation just a dream, or can I do it with nginx on my current architecture?

• Why is Nginx ignoring the access_log directive when post_action is specified?

  Hi, in the location below nginx writes a custom download log. Everything works fine except when there is a post_action directive. I seems that nginx skips the access_log directive. • MySQL Server Not Starting on Boot

  I have installed MySQL on a RHEL 5 server and I'm wanting to set it up so that the server starts on boot. I've ran the "chkconfig --list mysqld" command and it's currently running on levels 3, 4 and 5. However, when I reboot the server, no mysqld process is started. • SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 Update Keeps Coming Back (KB995706)

  Hi Guys, I have installed the above update through Windows Update. The update went through, reported a successful installation, and then straight after that it came back as an available update. I have done it a few times and my update log now contains multiple successful installations of KB995706. I have tried to uncheck it in the list of updates but it keeps coming back as well. The machine is a Server 2008 RC2 Standard. It's got SQL Server 2005 Express as well as SQL Server 2008 Standard. In the Event Log: Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) followed by Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for installation. The first and only thing I did was unchecking the "Automatically start Communicator when I log on to Windows" option. I can verify that it is still disabled, but OCS ignores that and starts up as soon as I log on to Windows. There is no OCS in the "Startup" folder, and the registry setting "AutoRunWhenLogonToWindows" at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Communicator is set to 0x00000000. I am using Office Communicator 2007 R2 on a Windows 7 with Microsoft Office 2010.

• Greeter login screen cropped login options in 12.04

  I have a pretty newly installed Ubuntu 12.04, using Unity. My external monitor is 1920x1080 max resolution. In the Unity desktop itself everything looks great. I have an NVidia graphics card. When I start my computer and get to the Unity greeter login screen the display is oddly formatted and the resolution seems off. It looks like a zoomed view on the larger 1920x1080 screen. As such it crops the login options off to the left hand side of the screen. So I can only just see the edge of the password box for the user I want to log in with. I can log in with one account by default by blindly typing the password, but I am unable to switch to other accounts. Is there anything I can do to fix the log in screen display so that I can see the normal login options? Note: I first noticed it when I changed my desktop background and the next time I logged in I saw the issue.

• Switching to workspaces view shows buggy blue background

  When switching to workspaces view everything the background turns blue. Same happens when I switch between multiple windows of the same app too. Happening after having a try with gnome shell out of curiosity. Installed through official repos like normal. Tried it out but switched back, anyone have an idea of why this is happening? Got an Intel GPU and Unity 3d. If anyone can give me some direction, thanks a lot. Apparently it's not that hard to accidentally install an nvidia driver. All I had to do was remove all the stuff that had nvidia in it and I got 3d back! • How can I know which client is referring ntp server?

  Hi, I'm on process to migrate ntp server to another server. I already setup the ntp server on the new PC, reconfigure clients for the new server, but want to know nobody refers the older ntp server before shutting down the older ntp server. But as long as seeing the log files, there is no log about which client accessed the server, besides the log how the ntp-server synced with the public ntp-server. How can I make sure who is referring the ntp server? Platform is x86 Debian sarge. Thanks,

• Screencast not producing files

  I'm using Gnome 3 on 12.04 and trying to create a screencast. I start the screencast using the Ctrl-Alt-Shift-R shortcut and the red light appears in the bottom right corner. I go about my business then press the key combination again when done. The problem is that the screencast file gets generated maybe 1 out of 10 times. Is there a log file I can look at to determine the issue? How about a settings file? UPDATE: I did some additional testing. What's happening is that the screencast does work but it appends the new video to the existing file. Even if the file is renamed or moved to trash. Emptying trash does not create a new file either. Not sure where the video gets recorded to then. The only reliable way I've found to have a new file created is to log out of the session and log back in. Is this expected behaviour? Is there a way to force screencast to create a new file every time Ctrl-Alt-Shift-R is pressed?

  Folks, I'm having an issue with a bash script which runs a particular command as a different user. Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? I've tried Dr Google and all the advise hasn't helped thus far.
