  Hi all, I am newbie for integer linear programming. I plan to use a integer linear programming solver to solve my combinatorial optimization problem. I am more familiar with C++/object oriented programming on an IDE. Now I am using NetBeans with Cygwin to write my applications most of time. May I ask if there is an easy use ILP solver for me?   The substance of an app is more important to me than its apperance, yet GUI always seems to dominate a disproportionate percentage of programmer time, development and target resource requirements/constraints. Ideally I'd like an application architecture that will permit me to develop an app using a lightweight reference GUI/kit and focus on non gui aspects to produce a quality app which is GUI enabled/friendly. I would want APP and the GUI to be sufficiently decoupled to maximize the ease for you GUI experts to plug the app into to some target GUI design/framework/context. e.g. targets such as: termcap GUI, web app GUI framework, desktop GUI, thin client GUI. In short: How do I mostly ignore the GUI, but avoid painting you into a corner when I don't even know who you are yet?

• Hiding Extended program check errors for Includes in ABAP

  How can I stop the ABAP extended program check (SLIN) from reporting errors in include libraries that I may not have write access to? I like to leave the extended check with as few errors & warnings as possible, usually when I intentionally use something in a way that may cause a warning, I use the pseudo comments ("#EC * etc) to hide the message. This also tells the next programmer that I at least thought about the possible consequences of using something in a particular way. When these statements are in includes that I have no control over, I would like to hide the messages without changing the offending libraries/includes.

• WPF DataGrid RowDataBound?

  Ok this is driving me mad, I feel like a total Newbie. I'm using WPF's DataGrid control from Dynamic Data Display with .NET 3.5. Link on Codeplex here I want an equivalent to the classic GridView's RowDataBound event, and I can't find any. I tried working with LoadingRow, but it fires every time I scroll. I'm trying to change the background color of certain cells in my grid based on a database values. I'm new to WPF. Should I be using the XAML binding?

  hi I am building a new web site in asp.net, and im newbie with using maps. For my web site i will need the following functionality: display a map of specific location. display route map between two or more location calculate distance between 2 locations. I found most of the functionality at the Bing Maps interactive SDK site: and it works fine. My questions are: does it cost money to use this SDK ? for the third task, i understand that i will have to use MapPoint Services. (is there another way??) does it code money to use it? I thought that the default behaviour of the Ajax.BeginForm was exactly not to do that? Where's my newbie mistake? My Controller is called correctly, but data passing also doesn't work. • INetCfgComponent::RaisePropertyUi arguments

  I'm trying to do some COM interop and attempting to invoke the INetCfgComponent::RaisePropertyUi method. I've gotten to the point where I can enumerate devices and get a valid INetCfgComponent for the adapter that I want to display the UI for. However, I'm a COM newbie (let alone COM interop) so I have no idea what the third argument in RaisePropertyUi() is meant to be. I've tried passing in the INetCfgComponent object that I have, but that just results in a InvalidCastException. MSDN has the following to say about the argument: Pointer to the IUnknown interface. RaisePropertyUi retrieves from IUnknown the interface of the context in which to display a network component's property sheet. RaisePropertyUi uses this interface to restrict the display of the property sheet to the context of a connection.

  Previously there have been questions on what makes a good team lead and what makes a good programming team, but I can't find any questions on what makes a good programmer. I believe the answer to this question is especially important in the context of hiring. Hiring the best people you can afford only works when you are able to identify who the best people are. Being able to consistently identify the best people is only possible when you know what makes the best people the best people. The easy answer is "smart and gets things done" (see "Done, and Gets Things Smart" for an interesting response). But surely there is more to being a good software developer than this aphorism. So, what makes a good software developer a good software developer? (Note: For the purposes of this question, I'm not interested in how to actually tell if somebody is a good software developer.)

• netbeans editor loses focus on editor and gives it to the menubar

  Hi all, I am newbie of using Netbeans and i have Netbeans 6.5 on XP. So, here is my problem: when i am working on Netbeans and switch to an another task and then come back later, editor of the Netbeans losts the focus and the menubar gains it. I don't want to press ALT key again to re-focus on the editor. I made some search on help contents of the Netbeans and google and i couldn't find any solution.   What disorders and diseases commonly afflict programmers? The only one I can think of is the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, but up to now, I still don't know anybody who has suffered from it. Please only post those disorders and diseases that you or some other programmer you personally know have acquired from programming. Edit: I was just recently diagnosed with GERD, which was caused by my excessive amount coffee, which stimulate gastric acid secretion that causes the thinning of the esophagus. Just imagine yourself without an esophagus just because you drank too much coffee. That's for drinking an average of 3 mugs of coffee a day on weekdays. On weekends, one liter a day.

• TCPlistener.BeginAcceptSocket - async question

  Hi, Some time ago I have payed to a programmer for doing multithread server. In the meantime I have learned C# a bit and now I think I can see the slowndown problem - I was told by that guy that nothing is processed on the main thread (Form) so it cannot be frozen..but it is. But I think that altough BeginAcceptSocket is async operation, but its callback runs on the main thread and if there is locking, thats the reason why the app freezes. Am I right? • Calling WCF Service from Action Script 2

  Hi All, I am a .NET programmer working with a Flash designer on a project. The design is that they will create a flash UI (implemented with AS2) to present a questionnaire. After it is completed by an end user, the will send me (a .net web service of some form) the answers to the questionnaire, I will perform a calculation, and I will send a response back (the response will likely be a single integer, though it may be a touple of (integer score, string description). Neither myself nor the designer is knowledgeable of Action Script. Does anyone have a snippet for such web service calls in AS2? Are there any soap libraries for AS2 that we could use, or should I expose a RESTful interface? Can it be as simple as having the designer concat the questionnaire answers into the query string of the service URL? What would be a typical data format for my response (xml, json, plain text) Thanks in advance for your help. Frank

I know this is a newbie question, but how do I get a movie to play in the new MPMoviePlayerViewController. I am only getting audio and wish to learn the new view controller. • Spring webflow validation

  Hi, complete and utter newbie on spring webflow (and indeed, spring mvc). 30 minutes in... got the first page of my flow appearing, which happens to be a captcha, an input field and a submit button. The actual captcha value is stored in session and i need to validate that the input field values matches the value in session. In order to do validation, my model is passed a 'ValidationContext'. Question: i can't seem to access session data from the ValidationContext. How do i do this? Thanks!

• How to undo an hg merge? (I think.)

  I'm new to collaborating with Mercurial. My situation: Another programmer changed rev 1 of a file to replace 4-space indents with 2-space indent. (I.e. changed every line.) Call that rev 2, pushed to the remote repo. I've committed substantive changes rev 1 with various code changes in my local workspace. Call that rev 3. I've hg pulled and hg mergeed without a clear idea of what was going on. The conflicts are myriad and not really substantive. So I really wish I'd changed my local repo to 2-space indents before merging; then the merge will be trivial (i'm supposing). But I can't seem to back up. I think I need to hg update -r 3 but it says abort: outstanding uncommitted merges. How can I undo the merge, changes spacing in my local repo, and remerge?

• Delphi connection to OpenEdge Progress-4GL Database

  Folks: Has anyone had success connecting to a Progress-4GL database with Delphi?   I've been unable to establish any connection with the ODBC driver provided by the vendor (Progress OpenEdge 10.1C Driver). I've entered (what I believe are) the right parameters, but keep on getting an error whenever I test the connection: "[DataDirect][ODBC Progress OpenEdge Wire Protocol driver] Socket closed." Background: I've been tasked to re-design a 13-year-old application, but the original programmer did not provide any supporting documents, passwords, configuration setup, etc. (I'm on my own)!   To make things worse, online help and useful documentation about Progress is scarce (I had never heard about this database until now). I want to examine the existing data, maybe create an ERD to familiarize myself with the schema, but I can't even access the data outside of the OpenEdge code. Any help is appreciated!

• Drupal 6: Drupal Themer gives same candidate name for different type of content types

  Hi friends, I'm a drupal newbie... I have different type of contents like News, Events, etc. and their content is different. News detail page has title-content text-date. but Events detail page has title-date-content text-location-speaker-etc. So I need different layout page for these different types. So, I enabled Drupal Themer to get a candidate name. for events page, it gave me page-node.tpl.php and it gives same for News page as well :( how can I separate these pages? I expected sth like page-event-node.tpl , but no... :/ Drupal Themer also give unique candidate name for event page like page-node-18.tpl.php but it doesnt mean anything since I can not create a general layout for all events by this node name. :( Appreciate helps so much!! I have a simple powershell script that just replace text but I found that the regex replace turn my multiline data source into a single line text when the output is produced. I want the line breaks to be preserved. Here is the dumb down version of the script. $source=(Get-Content textfile.txt) $process1 = [regex]::Replace($source, "line", "line2") $process1 | out-file -encoding ascii textfile2.txt You can create a test file call textfile.txt with simple lines like this to test it line line Some line More line here Have I missed something obvious? • 10 lines of code per day is the global average!? -- true?

  Ok so last year I participated in a high school curriculum contest thing at a college(I currently attend this college). I actually got 1st in it but was still a bit angry I didn't get every single one right. The most baffling of questions on there was How many lines of code does the average programmer write per day? A. 5 B. 10 C. 25 D. 30 Aside from being a subjective question which depended on language and everything else I was more baffled at what they had as the correct answer. 10. Even on my bad days at my job I touch more than 10 lines of code(either adding, modifying, or deleting) per day. And when I took this test I had only programmed as a hobby where it was common for me to write a few hundred lines for one of my new projects per day. Where are they getting this random number of ten!? Is this published somewhere? A quick googling found me nothing.

• Drawing a route in mapkit in iphone sdk

  Hello, I want to draw a route between 2 locations on the map.. something as a tour guide.When the tourist clicks another location i want to be able to draw the route as well as inform the distance from current location. I am aware of sites on the internet which tell how to draw polylines on map. But,one such example had a preloaded .csv file with various coordinates. Is there an alternate way to get the coordinates..as the location is selected dynamically.If no, how do i get the information for intermediate coordinates? • SSRS 2005: How do I make available varbinary data for download in a report?

  Hi, SSRS newbie question here... I have a table where one column is varbinary(max) data. I would like to make a report that makes this data available for download as a hyperlink so the user can just click on the item and get a file download dialog for the binary data. In this particular case, the binary data happens to be the content of old pdf files, but that shouldn't matter. I tried searching around but I can't find any pointers on how to do this. It seems to me that it should be possible. There are ways to display images in a report using varbinary data, so it makes sense that one should be able to make arbitrary binary data downloadable on a report, right?

• How do I use ffmpeg with live streaming from an IP camera

  My question is very basic because I am a newbie to all these technologies. I have an IP camera connected to my internal network. - "http://192.168.1.20/videostream.cgi?user=admin&pwd=" gives a live streaming view in Firefox or Internet Explorer.
