As good as Visual Studio in most cases is, sometimes it is really far away from professional coding fundamentals and best practices.

• Need Help With Fixing GRUB Dualboot Windows7 and Ubuntu

  I have a running Windows 7 and installed Precise along with it just this afternoon. I was doing a manual partition configuration. On the part where I get to set what partition to install the bootloader/MBR I chose the Windows partition. Now every time I choose Windows 7 from GRUB, it just reverts back to the GRUB menu. • After installing ubuntu, all my partitions are gone. Boot-repair log

  I have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook that came with windows 8 pre-installed. I had trouble dual booting after installing ubuntu, so I disabled safeboot on bios and proceeded to try boot-repair, nothing happened. No dual boot yet. So I tried to reinstall ubuntu, but without the manual partitioning. So I chose to erase ubuntu 13 and reinstall it. Instead it deleted all my HP recovery partitions and windows as well. Here is the log of boot-repair. http://paste.ubuntu.com/6354919/ Gparted and fdisk only show one partition: /dev/sda1 I am wondering if you could suggest any way of recovering my windows partition and have a working windows 8 again? I need some information there with urgency. If you could help me I will be welcome. I am desperated. Thanks

• I was going to get an iPhone, BUT ..

  My cell phone contract expires in a couple weeks and I was all set to buy an iPhone.   Do you use E-mail Center Auto-Processing functionality?  Auto-processing rules can be defined which will process an email and initiate actions such as sending an auto-reply, auto-acknowledgement or service request update or creation.  If you're using auto-processing in your environment, then you will have noticed that, when things go wrong, often the only indication that there is an issue is if the email goes to the Supervisor Queue for manual processing instead of being sent.  Oracle Development has developed a script to help you debug when an email is meant to be auto-processed but is failing.   it seems /usr/src (apparently old kernels) used up all my inodes Dateisystem Inodes IBenutzt IFrei IUse% Eingehängt auf /dev/sda4 489600 489600 0 100% / devtmpfs 219658 539 219119 1% /dev none 219844 474 219370 1% /run none 219844 3 219841 1% /run/lock none 219844 8 219836 1% /run/shm /dev/sda6 5963776 8361 5955415 1% /home tried everything to remove/purge etc. the old kernels, without success.. dpkg is not working anymore, tried a few manual commands but 12.04 gives me nothing. apt-get etc. is not possible due to lack of space on the hard drive...which is not the problem obviously. however cannot install/ remove anything! read a lot about users with the same problem, but their solutions are not working for me. Anyone out there who could help? thanks a lot!

• How to load kernel from live cd on UEFI install of Ubuntu 12.10?

  Running a GYGABYTE FM1 motherboard which is using a AMD 3870k APU with a new WS Caviar 1TB HDD. Following the advice in the Motherboard manual and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI have now got to grub screen for UEFI install. The dvd.iso being used is Ubuntu 12.10 desktop amd64. The hdd has had a gpt partition table made for, by using gparted when in a live desktop session(booted in bios mode)but decided to leave it unformatted with the intention of using installer to set up partitions. Booting live dvd gives grub list with the option to "install ubuntu" but get "can not read cd/0" and "the kernel must be loaded first" errors; when that option is selected. Any pointers on how to get installer going for UEFI install would be good. Thanks in advance.

  I got a hosting account at HOSTGATOR. it was a shared account and i had three websites present over there. now, i have upgraded my account to VPS at HOSTGATOR and i want to transfer only ONE website over the new VPS. say, mydom.net. this website includes wordpress installation and other custom pages and setup can somebody please guide me How can I transfer the web to my new account? with speed, accuracy, and such that my website remains in working condition.. what will I do about wordpress? simply copy it will work?(I dont thnk so), if not how can I move it?   Is it possible to create a stand alone deb packages by merging dependancies without manual repacking.?? I've looked at this question but it doesn't really answer what I'm trying to achieve above. if possible how to do it? update 1 No tools available yet(?) So what about creating new deb package containing all packages which will copy dependencies to the cache and executing main package. Is it possible? update 2 Above method appears to be impossible because dpkg cant handle more than one operation at a time. • Fonts have gone small for (almost) all users

  We have four of us using the same PC with an account each. Recently noticed that the other 3 had smaller fonts than usual and the fonts for the log-in screen were smaller too. My account seems unaffected. I wonder if I might have done a manual change on my fonts at some point, but don't remember doing it. What would have changed this and where is it set? Still using Kubuntu 10.04. Just not got around to upgrading.

  What policy do developers have when it comes to supporting earlier versions of Android? I still support Android 2.1 and above, but this means that I am unable to use features such as the action bar. Over 40% of my users are still running versions below 3.0, so I feel somewhat constrained about this. The problem is that 3.x was not very successful, so 2.3.x will be with us for some time. But all new devices will now be shipping with 4.x. I am wondering whether 4.x users are more likely to pay for an app, while most 2.3.x users are just looking.

• Dual boot (Win 7 & Ubuntu 13.10 clock problem

  I'm a "newbie" to Ubuntu, but I've been wrestling with this problem for several hours and don't seem to be able to solve it: When I set the time in Windows (Indianapolis, Eastern U.S. time zone) and then re-boot to Ubuntu, the computer time goes to Hawaiian time. When the time is set in Ubuntu, and the computer is rebooted to Windows the time is advanced by 5 hours. I've set the time in the BIOS, and it seems to make no difference. I've tried setting the time from "automatic" to "manual", all with the same result. Not a big problem, but it shows some underlying glitch. Could anyone explain?

Ideally, I would change the settings so that any user with sudo permissions could install packages. If that is not possible, I would like to be able to list all users that should be able to install. I know that this involves making changes to Policy Kit, and I have read a page with a similar question. • How do I disable auto-away for online presence?

  I am using Natty with with classic GNOME desktop. I use Empathy and sometimes Skype. Both these get the online state from the system itself somehow. If I don't touch my keyboard for a few minutes - even when watching a YouTube clip or something - the inactivity triggers an auto-away state on my messaging apps. It's synchronized so I imagine its coming coordinated from the system, and not the two apps making the same decision individually. How can I disable this? I want manual control - I'm only away when I set it to away in a messaging app.

His usage of these functions appears correct in order not to lose a byte; although he seems to be using them now for everything. The manual only says: For arbitrary precision mathematics PHP offers the Binary Calculator which supports numbers of any size and precision, represented as strings. How much is any size? Is it really necessary? How big is the default float in PHP? Are there any good advice regarding this or things to keep in mind?

  ok, I have a few questions regarding mysql. I am currently running ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS command line version. I am looking for a database that I can use. I am confused at this point because I am uninformed. mysql is just one database that is on the server? or can it contain several or many databases What programs do I use to access it on the server or is it a vt-100 type access? I understand that mysql comes with lamp? or ubuntu. I am thinking that it is already installed but not sure how to access it, but that is another question for later. • What is the sudo password after I deleted the password for the user?

  To have an easier access to the computer I deleted the user's password so it is blank. But now I'm still asked to type in a password for sudo actions such as installing programms, etc. I know that this belongs to Ubuntu's outrageous security policy (which is why I use Ubuntu in the first place..) but I don't have any password to enter any more!! The old user password is not accepted and anything else (like just hitting enter) doesn't work either. I already tried the recovery mode (root shell) way passwd USER< but it replied that it can't access the password or it has no authority. Thanks in advance for your help!

• Google Analytics + External Site Statistics Tracking in one application?

  My company is a broker in the real estate industry. As such, we send a lot of our listings to sites like Trulia.com and Zillow.com, among others. These sites direct leads to our realtors, and provide us with reports every month detailing the activity our listings have had on their site-- links back to our website, emails generated, etc. Our Marketing and Advertising departments want to take that information and enter it into a system to keep track of everything in one place, for the purpose of producing comparison reports. I cannot find any externally available product that provides this functionality. I would sincerely like to avoid writing this tool myself. Does anyone know of a tool that could do this? In short, an ideal system would: Imports Google Analytics data via API Imports real estate listing site data via CSV import / manual entry Provides comparison reports based on data Does anyone know of anything pre-made that can do this?

• How do I get sleep and hibernate working on an Asus K53z?

  Help! New ASUS K53z laptop that has a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 install... However, sleep doesn't work... Tried to follow the manual process in this thread... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1460790 The dropbox package was a 404, and my results are working... closing the lid of the computer shuts the wireless off, and the screen remains lit up. • Making flexible C# code in MVC2 for Stored Procedures

  Thanks to Darin Dimitrov's suggestion I got a big step further in understanding good MVC code, but I'm having some problems making it flexible. I implemented Darin's suggested solution, and it works perfectly for single controllers. However I'm having some trouble implementing it with some flexibility. What I'm looking for is this; To be able to make dynamic column names in json Instead of using "Column1: 'value', ..." and "Column2: 'value', ..." inside the json, I'd like to use for example "id: 'value', ..." and "place: 'value' ..." for one stored procedure, and "animal" and "type" in another (inside the json format). To be able to make dynamic amounts of columns dependent on which stored procedure is called Some stored procedures I'll want to read more than 2 rows from, is there a smart way of accomplishing that? To be able to make numeric (floats and integers) rows from the database be presented inside the json without quotes Like this (name and age); { Column1: "John", Column2: 53 }, I would be very grateful for any feedback and suggestions / code examples I can get here. Even imperfect ones.
