• Problem with joining to an empty table

  I use the following query: select * from A LEFT JOIN B on ( A.t_id != B.t_id) to get all the records in A that are not in B. The results are fine except when table B is completely empty, but then I do not get any records, even from table A. Later It wont work yet!   I have a table w/ 3 columns: name, phone, date. I have 3 indexes: 1 on phone, 1 on date and 1 on phone and date. I have the following statement: SELECT * FROM ( SELECT * FROM people WHERE phone IS NOT NULL ORDER BY date DESC) as t GROUP BY phone Basically, I want to get all unique phone numbers ordered by date. This table has about 2.5 million rows but takes forever to execute....are my indexes right? UPDATE: My EXPLAIN statement comes back with 2 rows: 1 for primary table and 1 for derived table. It says I am using temporary and using filesort for my primary table. For my derived table, it says my possible keys are (phone), and (phone, date) but it is using filesort.

• copy an identity column into another table

  I have 2 tables that are related,both have identity columns for primary keys and i am using a vb form to insert data into them,My problem is that i cannot get the child table to get the primary key of the parent table and use this as its foreign key in my database. the data is inserted fine though no foreign key constraint is made.I am wondering if a trigger will do it and if so how. All my inserting of data is done in vb. The user wont insert any keys. all these are identity columns that are auto generated. If a trigger is my way out please illustrate with an example. If there is another way i can do this in VB itself then please advise and an example will be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance

• Finding data file location while using Microsoft Test Framework

  I have been using NUnit and now I am switching to the Microsoft Unit Test frame work. In my test project I have a folder called TestData and I kept all my test input data files there. I want to use that files for my unit testing. In my test code, I am using Application name space and assembly name space but I can not get to the data folder directly until unless I write a code to find and replace some string to point to the data folder. I am sure someone might have run into the same problem, is the solution to change the path through program or is there a API call which will let us get to executing assembly folders? Thanks,

  I have a stored procedure on a busy database which constantly come out top in the list of expensive queries (by some way). The query is very simple, it takes a single parameter (@ID, int) which is the primary key of the table, and selects the record that matches that ID. The primary key is an identity field with a clustered index, so I am stumped as to how to optimise this any further?   I have a content type with important "created" date field. And I have a menu link (in primary links) which is link to page that shows list of all nodes of my content type. (http://example.com/mycontenttype) I want to have menu links (visible in primary links) to each year when nodes of my content type are displayed (http://example.com/mycontenttype/2010). And I want to add these menu links from mymodule_nodeapi function, when the node is creating and only if it has a "created" date of new year. I know that I can create a pathes in mymodule_menu function, but it doesn't create a visible menu item. (Maybe I can somehow set parent_link_id or something else to do it?)

I have the following constraints on my choice: I want the read-only load to be spread accross the primary and the secondary (mirror, subscriber) server Write load can be sent directly to the primary server The solution should be nearly maintainance free. Schema changes should just replicate to the secondary server (attention: replication has some serious constraints here as it seems) Written data should be accessible very quickly (in under 1s, but better would be instantaneously) on the secondary server On server failure I can tollerate up to one hour of data loss easily.   In java is easy to "hide" classes from outside your package(namespace), as you can define them as package-protected. There seems to be no equivalent keyword modifier in C#. Is there any way I could mimic that behaviour in C#? I have a couple of classes that I really wouldn't like the rest of the assembly to know of. It is ok for classes in the same namespace to know of, but I'd like them to be hidden from the rest of the library/application. I know of the internal keyword, but that only hiddes classes if you try to access them from outside your assembly. That is not really my case, as I'd like to keep everything glued in just one .DLL/.EXE. Thanks

  I am following this article on creating persistent login cookies with my ASP.NET site: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.security.formsauthentication.encrypt.aspx The issue is that when I navigate to the page, I get the following compiler error: Compiler Error Message: CS1061: 'ASP.administration_login_aspx' does not contain a definition for 'Login_Click' and no extension method 'Login_Click' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.administration_login_aspx' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Can anyone tell me why this is. The error message doesn't really say much and I don't believe I am missing a directive or assembly reference. The code builds without any problems. EDIT: I did not include code because I said I was following that link which includes code. I copy/pasted from the example.

  I am looking to dynamically load javascript that has been parsed as PHP so that I will be able to pass PHP variables to javascript, and then load this file into the primary PHP document. I have a document called myscript.js.php that includes the javascript and PHP. I attempted to load it into the primary document using jQuery's getScript like this: $.getScript("myscript.js.php", function() { alert('loaded script.'); }); This attempt failed - I am assuming because of the .php extension on the file. Is there anyway to dynamically load javascript that includes PHP? I have a few session variables that I am looking to pass through javascript that will be updated frequently, creating a need for the javascript to be reloaded.

  Hi, Following the setup that I have for my Cisco devices, I got some basic level of functionality authenticating users that loggin to 3Com switches authenticated against a RADIUS server. Problem is that I can not get the user to obtain admin privileges. I'm using Microsoft's IAS service. According to 3Com documentation when configuring the access policy on IAS the value of 010600000003 have to be used to specify admin access level. • Kernel panic when bringing up DRBD resource

  I'm trying to set up two machines synchonizing with DRBD. The storage is setup as follows: PV - LVM - DRBD - CLVM - GFS2. DRBD is set up in dual primary mode. The first server is set up and running fine in primary mode. The drives on the first server have data on them. I've set up the second server and I'm trying to bring up the DRBD resources. I created all the base LVM's to match the first server. After initializing the resources with `` drbdadm create-md storage I'm bringing up the resources by issuing drbdadm up storage After issuing that command, I get a kernel panic and the server reboots in 30 seconds. The best solution so far seems to be NPOI, this can create excel files without installing excel on the server, and has a nice API simillar to the excel interop. However i can't find a way to dump an entire datatable in excel similar to CopyFromRecordset Any tips on how to do that , or a better solution than NPOI ?

• Create a UPnP Control Point in Silverlight

  I'm interested in creating a UPnP control point in Silverlight. To me that implies that I'll need to use COM interop with Microsoft's upnp.dll (and the SL application will have to be out of browser and platform specific). Is there any source code available in C# that shows how to create a control point with Microsoft's stack? If there are other options available I'd like to hear about it, from reading around the web it appears the MS stack is buggy.

I've used Office Interop before to generate Excel spreadsheets, but those apps run on a PC that has office installed.
