    I'm looking for a way to search for a specific string e.g. '=UUID:' and delete it and all following characters per line. I would prefer a way/macro/addon for notepad++.     For some reason when I boot my laptop now (winxp), it doesn't start explorer.exe automatically; I'm left with a desktop background and a mouse pointer. I have to run taskman and start explorer.exe manually. Recently I had Spyware Dr. detect a severe threat, and I was wondering if there was anyway to re-hookup explorer.exe on startup.

    See this NYTimes url: http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/02/war-in-the-cabinet/?hp If we type opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/02/war-i in browser, it automatically redirects us to the above article, the only article in that folder starting with "war-i". How to do this in a site with apache, which serves static html files only? That is, if there is a apache module, without adding scripts, that would be best.

    I have a VMware Workstation 10.0 installation with several virtual networks including the default host-only and NAT networks. After upgrading to Windows 8.1, the NAT network was not working. I booted an Ubuntu VM with the default network setup that was previously working, and it sat for a long time during startup saying it was waiting for the network. After it finally started up, an ifconfig showed no IP address for eth0. How can I fix the broken network?

    Is there a way to monitor ec2 instances without using cloudwatch? I ask this since ec2 instances are basically VPS's, and using output from commands like top, vmstat, htop in scripts may not give the clear picture as the CPU cycles are shared between other instances as well. What should one keep in mind while monitoring CPU usage on a VPS?, should one have alerts based on top load or % of CPU used by user processes coupled with other factors like processes waiting on disk io, hardware interrupts?

  • Batch convert AppleWorks files into PDF within originating folder, delete original file?

    Probably AppleScript is the way to go with this - I have found scripts online that do this, but snag on oversize printable area and put files in the same folder - I need files to stay in the folder the source came from. If the script also deleted the original AppleWorks file, that would be even better, but not required.     I have some old classic asp scripts. They used to work on my 2003/IIS 6 server. But on my Vista/IIS 7 and now Windows 7 Ultimate/IIS 7 server the asp pages don't work. I did what they said here: Deploying a Classic ASP Server (IIS 7) (Microsoft TechNet). I enabled those 3 features in IIS 7 but that just went from getting 404 to 500 error.

  • Why don't cfn-init logs get sent by rsyslog?

    I just signed up for Papertrail to aggregate logs from some AWS instances I'm setting up with CloudFormation::Init. I've followed the instructions and added *.* @logs.papertrailapp.com to the end of '/etc/rsyslog.conf'. Some logs are showing up on Papertrail, but notably the contents of '/var/log/cfn-init.log' never get there, and those are the ones I'm interested in right now. Have I set up rsyslog incorrectly? Or do the CloudFormation::Init scripts just not use syslog to write log information?

  • Starting/Stopping services as a program start and end

    I have some applications like VMWare, SQL Server, which have a lot services started even without me using the software. I have changed the startup of this services to manual and have created a .bat file to start the services up and then I launch the program. But, its not a efficient solution. I would like to start the services once the application starts and stop once the application closes as well. Does anyone know of any solution?
