  Hi I'm new in Linux and I need your help :) Every time when i type sudo apt-get update it shows: alphaog@alphaog-HP-Pavilion-DV7:~$ sudo apt-get update E: Type 'ain' is not known on line 3 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ricotz-testing-precise.list E: The list of sources could not be read. I tried gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list and put # in front third line but it still doesn't work. Please Help! :)

• How can light sensor be enabled for control brightness and keyboard back-light automatically?

  I have A Sony VAIO laptop F-series () Nvidia and it has light sensor. When I was using Windows, this light sensor controlled the brightness and the keyboard backlight automatically due to the surroundings state. But when using Ubuntu 12.04, it only controls the backlight without automatically adjusting the brightness. How can I enable light sensor to automatically adjustment the LCD brightness without losing the keyboard backlight adjustment due to surrounding state?

• Quick run through of the WP7 Developer Tools January 2011

  In case you haven’t heard the latest WP7 Developers Tool update was released yesterday and contains a few goodies. First you need to go and grab the bits here. You can install them in any order, but I installed the WindowsPhoneDeveloperResources_en-US_Patch1.msp first. Then the VS10-KB2486994-x86.exe. They install silently. In other words, you would need to check Programs and Features and look in Installed Updates to see if they installed successfully. Like the screenshot below: Once you get them installed you can try out a few new features. Like Copy and Paste. Just fire up your application and put a TextBox on it and Select the Text and you will have the option highlighted in red above the text. Once you select it you will have the option to paste it. (see red rectangle below). Another feature is the Windows Phone Capability Detection Tool – This tool detects the phone capabilities used by your application. This will prevent you from submitting an app to the marketplace that says it uses x feature but really does not. How do you use it? Well navigate out to either directory: %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\CapDetect %ProgramFiles (x86)%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\CapDetect and run the following command: CapabilityDetection.exe Rules.xml YOURWP7XAPFILEOUTPUTDIRECTORY So, in my example you will see my app only requires the ID_CAP_MICROPHONE. Let’s see what the WmAppManifest.xml says in our WP7 Project: Whoa! That’s a lot of extra stuff we don’t need. We can delete unused capabilities safely now. Some of the other fixes are: (Copied straight from Microsoft) Fixes a text selection bug in pivot and panorama controls. In applications that have pivot or panorama controls that contain text boxes, users can unintentionally change panes when trying to copy text. To prevent this problem, open your application, recompile it, and then resubmit it to the Windows Phone Marketplace. Windows Phone Connect Tool – Allows you to connect your phone to a PC when Zune® software is not running and debug applications that use media APIs. For more information, see How to: Use the Connect Tool. Updated Bing Maps Silverlight Control – Includes improvements to gesture performance when using Bing™ Maps Silverlight® Control. • notify-send ignores timeout?

  Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but shouldn't the commands (run separately) notify-send -t 1 "test" notify-send -t 1000 "test" notify-send -t 10000 "test" Have different timeouts? The first being nearly instantaneous, the second one taking 1 sec and the third 100 seconds. In all cases it seems to take about six seconds. I'm using the development branch of Precise, if this isn't an issue in the released version I'll close this as being too localized, but I'm unable to test it now.

  Here is my app - http://www.shalgreetings.com/ I am trying to override the scroll bar going down to a imagesection in CSS, so that whole app is visible with logo, header and other controls all the times when people navigate through different #sections. I am not sure where in the CSS, I am making the mistake as clicking on #sections traverses the page. Here is this app's original inspiration code, which has got this right. • Ubuntu 12.10 install stuck at first step

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 from a DVD-R disk, and everything is just fine until I get to the first window after clicking "Install Ubuntu" I checked the box "Download updates while installing" and also the "Install third-party software" box. After clicking next, however, the install just hangs there. I've been waiting for over an hour now and all I see is the mouse cursor showing that it's "loading". What should I do to get past this? Thanks!

• Is AdWords ad blocked from top spots of SERPs until it is reviewed?

  I have an AdWords ad and a keyword with a Quality Score of 10. Inferring from CPC from actual clicks, max CPC is set way beyond that of the third advertiser from the SERP for this keyword (there are three ads in the top). Still the ad is shown on the 4th spot which located either on the right or at the bottom of the SERP. The only catch is that the ad's status is "under review". Is it the reason why it's blocked from the top spots?

• GUI for DirectX

  I'm looking for a GUI library built on top of DirectX- preferably 9, but I can also do 11. I've looked at stuff like DXUT, but it's way too much for me- I'm only needing some UI controls which I would rather not write (and debug) myself, and their need to keep a C-compatible API is definitely a big downside. I'd rather look at UI libs that are designed to be integrated into an existing DirectX-based system, rather than forming the basis of a system. Any recommendations?
