  • Need to set up shared storage for Guest virtual machines that are running on a Xen host

    My environment: I am doing these things at home with the purpose of learning about virtualization techniques. My machine have quad core processor that supports Intel-VT and 8GB RAM. XEN is the virtualization platform. In short, all domUs are LVM based. Mainly I have two questions; I need to have shared storage for these VMs. Something like NFS / NAS / iSCSI etc. However, I don't know which one is the best solution. Therefore, can someone tell me which suits best? Please note that, this shared storage need to be accessed by the other physical machines in the network. How to implement the selected solution for question #1? Any tutorials / guidelines / ebooks will be a great help and highly appreciated. Thank you in advance :)

    IT is running a series of VMs that we'd like to see optimized further: if the VMs' are Windows XP, storing their NTFS images out to the virtual disk (ext3) provided by Linux/VMWare, how much of a hit are we taking - as opposed to having a partition of the host hard drive formatted NTFS to eliminate the translation layer and the extra level of operating system IO preparation?

I'm just wondering if the XP-Mode would be a large security loophole, since it's so much more integrated into Windows 7.   • How to route KVM virtual machine audio to Ubuntu 11.10 host using virt-manager?

    I've been using KVM in combination with Virt-Manager and Remmina at a fair success up until now. The issue I need to solve now is to get audio from a virtualized Windows XP and make it audible on the Ubuntu 11.10 host. Remmina / RDP works for 'simple' audio (system sounds and such), but when the source gets trickier (e.g. Flash audio), Remmina / RDP messes up. So I figured I'd just connect to the machine directly using Virt-Manager. Unfortunately, it seems that even though I have successfully configured the AC97 audio device on WinXP, it's unable to get it's output to the Ubuntu host. This is probably because Virt-Manager uses VNC (and AFAIK, VNC doesn't transport audio). Does anyone know if there is a solution to fix this? I've heard of Spice, but the installation required so much voodoo last time I checked, I figured I'd let that solution boil to maturity a little longer ;) But perhaps there are other options I haven't thought of yet (which don't require switching to VirtualBox / VMware)...

    For a long time when creating images for my development environment, I had to install the OS and then sysprep.  Only after that would I then create a differencing drive/image that would have SQL Server. So, the thought of having a base/core image for SQL Server as a template was not easily done.  Well, how do things change?  SQL Server 2008 R2 gives us the option now. Monsters/mineral veins/etc are usually on some sort of respawn timer, so other than time there really isn't a good way to limit the amount of new currency entering the system. That really only leaves money sinks to try to take money out of the system. What are some strategies to prevent inflation of the in-game currency?

  • Can't install .NET 4.0 on Windows XP virtual machine! (VMWare Player)

    So, every time I try to install .NET Framework 4.0 on my Windows XP Professional SP3 VMWare Player virtual machine, I get a fatal error. It doesn't work with either Windows Update, the Web Installer or the normal installer! I don't know if it matters (AND I HOPE IT DOES NOT), but the host OS's Operating System drive is encrypted, and the VM HDD file resides on that partition. I don't think it matters because other programs can be installed! And downloaded!

  • How to duplicate form control's checkbox in Excel 2007 with "TRUE" "FALSE" text

    For example I made check box in A1 with "=$B$1" So now, when I click it the "TRUE", "FALSE" text appears depending if check box is checked or not. The problem starts when I want to duplicate those two to more rows. Now every check box makes the B1 text to change, not the one it represents as in check box A1 should change B1 text, check box in cell A2 should change B2 text and so on, but now all check boxes change the same B1 text. Is there any workaround?

    I have a VPN to my work which is quite fast... I Remote Desktop to my work PC, which is running a Microsoft Virtual PC. Working with the PC while I'm actually at work isn't too bad, but when I try to interact with it over the remote desktop, it is VERY slow to respond. Even simple typing can be slow, but screen painting and response time is painfully obvious. Any suggestions to help speed it up?

  • How would I broadcast a subdomain/virtual name on a local server with people connected to the same network

    I have a server connected to the router which has ubuntu 12.04. It is has apache/mysql/php all installed ready to go. the folder structure is like this: /var/www -- this isnt the root -/libs -/logs -/public - this is the root -/vhosts - all subdomains go here I have a folder in vhosts named mysite. I went into /etc/apache2/sites-available and created a file and here are the contents - (vhost file). and I also added an entry in /etc/hosts file containing: 127.0.1.1 mysite.dev and I also did sudo a2ensite mysite i tried accessing the site from a computer via mysite.dev and our public ip into the server but i was not able to view it. the public directory in the structure above does display on all computers when i try our public ip. but for anything added in vhosts the site wont show. there is no domain attached its just our ip. I tried changing the port from 80 to say 9999 in the mysite file in sites-available and tried myip:9999 but that didnt work either. what am I doing wrong? edit: i forgot to mention that the server is dmzed on the router.

    Greetings! Goal: transparant ui dialog box in IE7/8 with fade in/out effect upon open/close. Opacity was set in css and works just fine (safari, chrome, ff ie7/8) using native effects blind / explode etc. But when using efects.fade.js on the dialog box the opacity does not work on ie7/8 We want fade in/out because that looks awesome. Anyway here is my code. Any help much appreciated. Maybe something to do with filter or cleartype. (I'm on word 2003 if that matters and Python 2.4) The first part of my replace method below works on everything except text in text boxes. The text just doesn't get selected. I notice when I go into Word manually and hit ctrl-A all of the text gets selected except for the text box.     Hi, I am new to jQuery and would like to know how is it possible for me to hide an option in a selection box based on the selection of another selection box. I have 5 selection boxes, this is for the administrator to select the users of a limited criteria. The <options> are create dynamically from the results of a database query and php, and they all have the same <options>. e.g. this is an example of the selection boxes with their option values. userbox1 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox2 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox3 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox4 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan userbox5 - Amy, Bosh, Cathy, Daniel, Ethan So if the administrator selects Cathy in userbox1, Cathy will be automatically be hidden from the selection on the rest of the userbox. And if the administrator changes his/her mind and reselect another user call Ethan. The userboxes should be able to show the availability of Cathy in the selection. I am not sure is hide/show the correct status to be used in such cases. May I know how is it possible to write the function as stated above? If I am missing some current references, kindly point me to it. Thanks in advance.

I've tried using the addItemsWithObjectValues outside the for loop along with the suggestions at this question: Is this the right way to add items to NSCombobox in Cocoa ? But still no luck. If you can't tell, I'm trying to combine two strings from the files with a hyphen in between them and then put that new string into the combo box. There are over 400 codes and matching names in the two files, so manually putting them in would be a huge chore, not to mention, I don't see what would be causing this problem. The compiler shows no warnings or errors, and in the IB, I have it set to use the internal list, but when I run it, the list is not populated unless I do it manually. Some things I thought might be causing it: Being in the applicationDidFinishLaunching: method Having the string and array variables declared as instance variables in the header (along with @property and @synth done to them) Messing around with using appendString multiple times with NSMutableArrays Nothing seems to be causing this to me, but maybe someone else will know something I don't.   • How can I prevent the "... has stopped working" window on my Server 2008 R2 dev box?

    I'm using a Windows Server 2008 x64 R2 machine as a development box. Amongst many other things I've got Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installed on it. When I'm working on a project, I sometimes need to use Debug Start without Debugging (Ctrl + F5). If the program throws an exception, I get a new R2-style window appear. I'm pretty sure I didn't see this on my XP box - this is the first time I've developed directly on a server. Is there any way to avoid this - it's really beginning to bug me? E.g. my current project is accessing a WCF service - I'm using Ctrl+F5 to start a console program client. I run it and get the window. The title is the name of the project I've just started and it contains: [insert-project-name-here] has stopped working Windows can check online for a solution to the problem. --> Check online for a solution and close the program --> Close the program --> Debug the program V View problem details. Clicking on "Close the program" will actually close the window and the exception message appears in the console, which is what I want (but without the extra window-faffing). How can I avoid this annoyance?

    Hi Everyone? I am trying to add a select box to the base of my create form that decides if an action runs from the controller...if that makes any sense? What I would like to happen, is if the select box is checked the project is sent to Freeagent. If not, the case just gets created locally as normal but without the Freeagent data being sent. If I use the above code, I get an exception caught error: SyntaxError in KasesController#new controllers/kases_controller.rb:114: syntax error, unexpected '\n' Any idea what I am doing wrong, also is it possible to make the check boxes checked as default?
