• javaEE application layout

  I've been tasked with writing a new webapp in javaEE, which will be a first for me. I'm familar with the java language, but all of my previous projects have been in .net. So I've downloaded netbeans and I'll probably be using Hibernate, and started digging in. My question is, what's the best way to lay out a javaEE app? Should all data access go through netbeans? I was told to use webservices as much as possible so it's easy to pull data in and out of the system, and I've read through tutorials that create webservices in a seperate web application, as compared to the javaEE enterprise application. Is that really the way it's supposed to work? Just trying to wrap my head around this as compared to what I'm used to in .net. Thanks!

• Internet Explorer blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors

  I have a security certificate linked to a CDN's server. The main website is https:www.connect4fitness.com When I pull the site up in firefox or chrome, everything works fine. But in IE I get the following error: "Internet Explorer blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors." On IE 9 it shows the button "Display Content" and you can get past the error by clicking on the button. On older versions on I the error message is much more cryptic and is confusing users. Please note that I don't have the option of asking end users to add the site to Trusted Sources as some folks use the site from their work computers and do not have that access. Also, some people don't bother to call once they hit the error. I have looked at the content and all my links are "https" only. I had one namespace link and I got rid of it. Any idea about how I can find what is triggering this message?

• Adding text over existing PDFs using reportlab

  I'm interested in filling out existing PDF forms programatically. All I really need to do is pull information from user input and then place the appropriate text over an existing PDF in the appropriate locations. I can already do this with reportlab by feeding the same sheet of paper into a printer, twice, but this just really rubs me the wrong way. I'm tempted to just personally reverse engineer each existing PDF and draw every line and character myself before adding the user-inputted text, but I wanted to check to see if there was an easy way to take an existing PDF and set it as a background for some extra text. I'd really prefer to use python as it's the only language I feel comfortable with. I also realize that I could just scan the document itself and use the resulting raster image as a background, but I would prefer the precision of vector graphics. It seems like ReportLab has a commercial product with this functionality, and the specific function I'm looking for is in it (copyPages) - but it seems like overkill to pay for a 4 figure product for a single, simple function for a nonprofit use.

• Rails - how to use a plugin from github (how to install, utilize, etc)

  I'm trying to install a couple of different plugins for my rails 3 app. I cd to '/vendor/plugins/', then type git clone the_git_src_url. I see the files in the /vendor/plugins/ directory. However when I try to use any of the tags provided by the plugin I get uninitialized constant ContentsController::HTMLToTextileParser PriceTag and html2textile are the two plugins I'm trying to use. This is what triggers the error above: <%= PriceTag.html_to_textile(@content.desc) %> I'm working in development, I've tried to restart the server. Is there something I'm missing?

• Databound Checkbox list with textboxes in a webform

  Hi all, I'm having trouble coming up with a solution for the following problem and i was wondering if someone here would help me out. I need to pull a list of supplies from a db table and list them along with two textboxes (one for quantity, and another for manufacturer) so the list would look something like this. checkbox for supply 1 | Quantity | Manufacturer checkbox for supply 2 | Quantity | Manufacturer .. I also need to store all of the checked items in a db table. I'm not sure how i should go about doing this. I've heard some talk about a repeater control being useful but i've not come across any examples that do this type of thing. Thanks in advance

• TelerikProfileProvider with custom Membership Provider

  I've setup two membership providers: my custom provider and the Sitefinity provider. My custom membership provider is set as the default. I want to use Sitefinity's Profile provider for both sets of users. However, the profile provider only seems to work for the users that I pull out of the Sitefinity membership provider. After poking around with Reflector a bit, it seems that the Telerik Profile Provider assumes that the username exists in its own DB. User userByName = this.Application.GetUserByName(userName); if (userByName != null) { // magic happens here... } All the magic only happens if it was able to retrieve the user locally. Seems to violate the principles of the providers. Shouldn't I be able to arbitrarily add properties to any user regardless of the membership provider? (I've also posted this on the Sitefinity forum, but haven't got a response yet. SO has spoiled me. I've come to expect an answer in minutes, not days.)

• Uiscrollview displayed with focus at its center iphone sdk

  Hi all, I'm having a scrollview and a view over it both of which I'm creating through interface builder. But whenever I run the program the scrollview displays the part of the view which is almost at its center. It is scrollable, so when I pull it down, I can see the text in the view above but when I leave it's again positioned the earlier way i.e. somewhat down the actual (0,0) position. Can anybody hint me at the property which should be set in order to fix this?

• Are there tools that would be suitable for maintaining a changelog for a Cabal Haskell package?

  I'm working fast and furiously on a new Haskell package for compiler writers. I'm going through many minor version numbers daily, and the Haskell packaging system, Cabal, doesn't seem to offer any tools for updating version numbers or for maintaining a change log. (Logs are going into git but that's not visible to anyone using the package.) I would kill for something equivalent to Debian's uupdate or dch/debchange tools. Does anyone know of general-purpose tools that could be used to increment version numbers automatically and add an entry to a change log?

• Django Caught an exception while rendering: No module named registration

  I seem to have run into a bit of an issue. I am busy creating an app, and over the last few weeks setup my server to use Git, mod_wsgi to host this app. Since deploying it, everything seems to be running smoothly however, I had to go through all my files and insert the absolute url of the project to make sure it works fine. on my local machine from registration.models import UserRegistration on server from myapp.registration.models import UserRegistration Am I doing something wrong? And this has also caused an issue for me where I cannot access my django admin interface. All i get is this: Caught an exception while rendering: No module named registration Exception Value: Caught an exception while rendering: No module named registration As far as I am concerned my app has all the relevant urls, but it does not seem to work. • Datamapper has n relationship with multiple keys

  I am working on a simple relationship with DataMapper, a ruby webapp to track games. A game belongs_to 4 players, and each player can have many games. When I call player.games.size, I seem to be getting back a result of 0, for players that I know have games associated with them. I am currently able to pull the player associations off of game, but can't figure out why player.games is empty. • 2 way synchronization of in-house gitosis repositories server with Github repositories

  We use gitosis as our local in-house shared repository and also have a private Github account that mirrors our local repository. If one does a git push to the in-house repository the post-update hook updates the Github repository. How can I make this two way without causing "loops"? I.e. if someone pushes to the Github repository, I would like it to also update the in-house gitosis repository. A pointer to an example of how to do it would be greatly appreciated. Or if there are recommendations of alternatives to gitosis that would make this kind of thing easy, I would consider migrating to that.

  I have an excel file. I wanted to pull the data from excel file to SQL Server table. And the data is successfully transferred.In the excel file, I removed a text from one column named "Risk" from one row.The text was lengthy one.now the package execution fails at the source ie from the excel file. The errors are shown as "[Audit [1]] Error: There was an error with output column "Risk" (100) on output "Excel Source Output" (9). The column status returned was: "DBSTATUS_UNAVAILABLE"." and "[Audit [1]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_INDUCEDTRANSFORMFAILUREONERROR. The "output column "Risk" (100)" failed because error code 0xC0209071 occurred, and the error row disposition on "output column "Risk" (100)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure." the error occurs only when I remove this particular text from this row.

  I'll start by quoting google's blog Project owners can now create multiple repositories for their project, and they can choose to make any of those new repositories a clone of any of the project's other repositories. These project clones share the same commit access permissions as the original project and make it easier for project members to work together on new features. A common pattern in the Mercurial world is to place each "official" branch into a separate repository with naming conventions like "project-crew", "project-stable", and so on. I've done exactly this. I have my default repository and then I've cloned that repository to a repo named "dev". I intend to use the default repository as my stable repo and then the dev repo as my primary development repo. Now I'm just wondering how on earth I should go about to pull and push between the default and the dev repositories?

  Is there any way to pull information about which client certificate was used inside of my web service method when using <security mode="Transport>? I sifted through OperationContext.Current but couldn't find anything obvious. • Import web.go error after using goinstall

  With halfdans advice, I was successfully able to use goinstall github.com/hoisie/web.go without any errors after installing git first. However, now when I try to compile the sample code given, go is not finding the web package. I get the error, main.go:4: can't find import: web On this code package main import ( "web" ) func hello(val string) string { return "hello " + val } func main() { web.Get("/(.*)", hello) web.Run("0.0.0.0:9999") } Is there something special I need to do in order for it to recognize the package? I found the package source at $GOROOT/src/pkg/github.com/hoisie/web.go/web. I tried github.com/hoisie/web.go/web as the import and it still did not like that.

• Combine DVCS with Visual Source Safe

  I'm forced to use Visual Source Safe 2005 at work. I'd like to combine that with a DVCS, so that I can check in files locally without disrupting my co-workers if there's a bug or it doesn't compile. In my attempts with Mercurial, it works, but causes a few weird issues. Namely, it thinks someone else has checked out the files I have checked out. Here's my thoughts on how I should manage it: Disable auto-checkout. Work locally in Mercurial When I'm ready to push my changes... Clone my Mercurial repository. Update my Visual Source Safe repository Pull and merge the two repositories using Mercurial. Check everything into Visual Source Safe. Does this sound reasonable? I'm always hearing bad things about VSS, is this just asking for me to see those problems firsthand?

B) Sort by will contain by employee number, date of birth , Salary , and many more C) Filter by will contain like employee on vacation, or employee terminated etc etc. Now for a single webreport I am first taking a DataSource and binding data to labels. to achieve the above webreport I have to take 40 different Datasource and I have to assign to the labels? Should I be doing this?

• IoC and Design Time

  I have a WPF application which I am using to learn MVVM and IoC. The problem is that the Model used by one of the Views expects to pull one of its dependancies in the constructor from an IoC container. When working on this View in the Visual Studio designer it cannot show the design because an exception is being raised in the model. Is there a way around this? Am I pulling my dependancies in the wrong place in code or is there a way I can pass in constructed dependancies, perhaps through Constructor injection. How does this differ from the System.Lazy<...> construct now available in .NET 4.0 (and perhaps earlier)?   I have a table where we record per user values like money_spent, money_spent_on_candy and the date. So the columns in this table (let's call it MoneyTable) would be: UserId Money_Spent Money_Spent_On_Candy Date My goal is to SUM the total amount of money_spent -- but only for those users where they have spent more than 10% of their total money spent for the date range on candy. What would that query be? I know how to select the Users that have this -- and then I can output the data and sum that by hand but I would like to do this in one single query. Here would be the query to pull the sum of Spend per user for only the users that have spent 10% of their money on candy. • Multiple aggregate functions in one SQL query from the same table using different conditions

  I'm working on creating a SQL query that will pull records from a table based on the value of two aggregate functions. These aggregate functions are pulling data from the same table, but with different filter conditions. The problem that I run into is that the results of the SUMs are much larger than if I only include one SUM function. I know that I can create this query using temp tables, but I'm just wondering if there is an elegant solution that requires only a single query. I've created a simplified version to demonstrate the issue.   hi guys, i'm totally new to the asp.net mvc stack and i was wondering what happened to the simple Page object and the Request ServerVariables object? basically what i wanted to do is to pull out the client's pc ip address. but i fail to understand how the current MVC structure has changed all of this. as far as i can understand, most of the variable object has been replaced by the HttpRequest variants? anybody care to share some resources? really a sea of stuff to learn in the asp.net mvc world :) thanks.

• SyndicationItem.Content is Null

  I'm trying to pull the contents of an RSS feed into an object that can be manipulated in code. It looks like the SyndicationFeed and SyndicationItem classes in .NET 3.5 will do what I need, except for one thing. Every time I've tried to read in the contents of an RSS feed using the SyndicationFeed class, the .Content element for each SyndicationItem is null. I've run my feed through FeedValidator and have tried this with feeds from several other sources, but to no avail. XmlReader xr = XmlReader.Create("http://shortordercode.com/feed/"); SyndicationFeed feed = SyndicationFeed.Load(xr); foreach (SyndicationItem item in feed.Items) { Console.WriteLine(item.Title.Text); Console.WriteLine(item.Content.ToString()); } Console.ReadLine(); I suspect I may just be missing a step somewhere, but I can't seem to find a good tutorial on how to consume RSS feeds using these classes.
