• Would installing debugging symbols help for reporting bugs?

  I'm running a beta version of Ubuntu (12.10) and I've been reporting crashes through apport's automated system. I've glanced at the stacktraces for a couple of the issues and noticed a lot of what look like hex addresses and these: "No symbol table info available." I was wondering if installing the debugging symbols packages from synaptic would provide better information to package maintainers when I report bugs. In other words, would the stacktrace be more useful if I installed those packages? If so, would installing those packages make any (noticeable) performances differences (will my computer run slower)?   I have AMD Radeon HD 4850, with the latest drivers. I just dont get several things, what is x.org? What is FGLRX? Also, what is RandR? And why in the info section of the control centre it says Catalyst version is 12.6, but Catalyst control centre is 2.14, what is the difference between Catalyst and Catalyst control centre? Also, why is the Driver packaging version 8.98 while the Driver package says 12.6? I am extremely confused! As well as in the installer, what is the difference between choosing "Install Driver 8.98 on X.Org 6.9 or later" and "Generate Distribution Specific Driver Package"?

• Who owns code if its written by one person with another person directing [on hold]

• Changing the content of the panel

  I am an absolute beginner on Ubuntu and Linux. I am currently migrating since Microsoft is supposedly phasing out the support of XP. Running Ubuntu 12.04 I am trying to modify the content of the panel (this is the upper bar as I understand it) so it would show caps lock and numlock status. The info I found on the web more or less said that I needed to super-alt right click on the panel and add the options available from the menu. Hoowever, nothing happens when I super-alt right click. No menu pops up, nothing. I found many posts and websites that gave this key-mouse combo as if it was common use. But for me, it does absolutely nothing. Is there something that has to be enabled to have this possibility?

  I'm interested in developing a game who's background music changes with the mood and scenario of the game's action. Of course many existing games do this (halo for example), but I was interested in any resources/papers/articles talking about the techniques to develop a system like this. I have some ideas, and I understand that this will be equally challenging to implement at the code level as it will be to come up or acquire music that fits this model. • GRUB 2 Error : No such disk

  I have gone through many pains to boot through my windows 7 partition. I had windows 7, then one fine day I installed Ubuntu and again formatted the partition where Ubuntu was installed only to find the my Windows does not boot(Probably corrupted MBR). I again installed Ubuntu later but the Grub could not detect windows. So I manually added windows by editing the file 40_custom. But when I select the win7 entry in the grub, it displays the error : no such disk. What do I do?? Additional Info : Ubuntu version : 11.10 x64|| Win 7 Home premium, 64 bit|| While in the process of debugging I once also came across the error : Sector 32 being in use by FlexNet.|| Strongly in need of booting my Win 7 without any formats or fresh OS installations. Thankful for any Diagnostics and Solutions to my problem.

• Ubuntu freezes/crash after wake when upgraded to 13.10

  Back on 13.04 it didn't occurred. I've upgraded to 13.10, systems apparently working fine, but, when I put it to sleep(using or not using extended monitor) and try to wake up, I see the screen(both), without lock-screen, but completely freeze, Neither tty open, nor the keyboard works. So, only option remains is to force shut-down. Any clue how to investigate the cause or fix it? Thanks in advance, any info that'll help you could ask! • No sound while playing multi-media in Ubuntu 12.04 for XPS15

  I have a Traktor Audio 2 DJ USB sound card (the first version of what it's now called simply Traktor Audio 2) The problem in settings it only sees one output, when there should be two (I need that for Mixxx etc.) Also I want to be able set the sample rate to one of these: 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz or at least check which one is set. Additionally if possible setting the latency would be an advantage. • Attaining credit card data

  I've read the many posts on this site that say we are not allowed to store cc numbers if we are not pci-compliant. But, I'm wondering if it is possible to send a CC number through a form to an email address? Would that be still infringing on the standards? The reason I ask is that a local business owner wants to retrieve a number through a form on his website, so he can manually enter the cc info on his end. I'm assuming the only way to properly get a credit card number is to setup a merchant account? What's the best way to get a cc number without calling the actual customer? I'm thinking email is a bad idea as well.

• Recover files from a SATA drive from USB

I have a docking station for the drive and it is connected to my linux machine. The drive appears in disk utility. Unfortunately, this is where I have no idea where to proceed.   Here's what I've created I created a view controller element (in storyboard) I created a new viewcontroller .h and .m file Here's my issue Can't seem to figure out how to get the content that I've added to the .m file to show up on the view controller element in the storyboard once the app is launched and the selection for that view controller element is made in the iPhone simulator. Although I am able to see content that is already added to a .m file on the home screen and activity screen when the selection is made in the iPhone simulator. Hope that makes sense, if not please ask and I'll be more than happy to provide more info.

• not booting from usb or cd

  I am trying to install linux on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite C6550-S5200. I did it once but something happened so I removed it then I had to destroy all data on hard drive so now I have nothing on it. Well I got a iso file burned to a CD and to a flash drive. With the flash drive I get. SYSLINUX 4.06 EDD 4.06-pre7 Copyright (C) 1994-2012 H. Peter Anvin et al With the CD it will start booting it but somewhere loading it up, the dots turn all orange and stay that way and my CD drive turns quiet. Oh and some more info the images work because I tried loading them up on another pc and it worked just fine.

• Algorithm for creating spheres?

  Does anyone have an algorithm for creating a sphere proceduraly with la amount of latitude lines, lo amount of longitude lines, and a radius of r? I need it to work with Unity, so the vertex positions need to be defined and then, the triangles defined via indexes (more info). EDIT I managed to get the code working in unity. But I think I might have done something wrong. When I turn up the detailLevel, All it does is add more vertices and polygons without moving them around. Did I forget something?

• Yandex frequently replaces page names with ampersands

  The Yandex spider is a frequent visitor to one of the sites I manage. On ocassion it replaces the page name with two ampersands and a space. So if the page is: /mypage.aspx?param=value then it will try and crawl it as: /&& ?param=value Any idea why it is doing this? [EDIT] If I remember correctly the IP that this "mistake" is coming from is based in California and not Russia. I believe that they crawl US sites from a US based IP address. Not sure if that helps.   I am a relatively new Ubuntu user and I am having some difficulty mounting my external 2TB HDD. When I first installed Linux my external HDD was working just fine, however, it has stopped working and I have a lot of important files on there that I need. Before my HDD would automatically mount and no worries. • Great User Group if based near Gloucester + Links from Entity Framework 4.0 session

  I had a really fun evening doing “my final” EF 4.0 session last night (26th May 2010) at GL.NET based out of Gloucester (although secretly I made it into a IronRuby and Windows Azure session). They are a great crowd and Jimmy makes for a fantastic host + it is a very nice venue (Symantec offices in Gloucester, lots of parking, good room etc) + free pizza + free SWAG + trip to pub afterwards (the topics were very varied!). What more could you ask for? The next session is June 16th and will be on multi-tenanted ASP.NET MVC and comes highly recommended.
