• installing win7 x64 in VirtualBox - error driver device missing

  After creating a vhd and going through that process i'm unable to install win7 x64. I've went through various settings and trying to get it right. It'll boot the windows install but then indicate the following error (image included too): A required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note if the windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step. I've also set up my storage tree like so: Would anyone know what the issue could be? It's asking for cd/dvd device drivers and i'm unable to install.

• Black screen white cursor and can't boot from live disc that I installed from just yesterday (Ubuntu 12.04)

  So, I've decided to change to Ubuntu from Windows 7 after reformatting. Install goes smoothly, I've set everything up, and it works for a day. It crashed when I had a full screen video, froze, so I rebooted, and now I can't get past the black screen with flashing white underscore cursor. If I wait a while, I get "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press any key" I've tried that, removed any boot options but the DVD drive, even tried my Windows 7 boot CD as well. Nothing boots, so I can't do anything. This is on an Asus A52N laptop, and all I can access now is the BIOS (version K52N 217), as far as I can tell.

• Writing a dynamic achievement system without hardcoding rules into the application

  I really enjoyed the solution provided here for groundwork on writing an achievement framework. The problem I have is I have game designers that would like to be able to insert achievements into a CMS at runtime. In a way, it sounds insane and complex to do this, but is it really? I think the concept of having to do a hard push of the application for every new achievement is cumbersome. I would love to be able to give our designers the capability to put together new achievements by entering them into a database. It shouldn't matter what tool I'm using, but for those interested, my backend is being written in JRuby (Ruby on top of the JVM). What are some possible ways of going about abstracting the logic in the aforementioned link even further so that rules can be interpreted at runtime?

• Proxy authentication box not showing (sometimes)

  I'm behind a proxy that require authentication by means of user/pass. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04, I think the proxy is "Squid". Usually everything works fine, that means that the browser shows me the window to insert proxy user/pass and I can navigate. The problem: Sometimes the browser refuse to show the authentication windows and if I wait enough it gives me an error like: Errore 130 (net::ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED) Even if I restart, disconnect, the situation doesn't change. BUT on Windows the network (and the proxy) works.. So, bottomline what I know is: the network is working (though only on Windows) the Ubuntu configuration is ok (because i can navigate most days) The problems resolves itself in a few hours but I don't understand why.   I have a mathematics background but also consider career in some form of software development. In particular I'm interested in finding out what sort of industries are most likely to have more algorithm development/mathematical and logical problem solving slant rather than pure application development etc. Obviously, I'm assuming that some subset of the canonical data structures and associated algorithms (trees, lists, hash tables, sets, maps with search, insert, traversals etc.) are mostly going to be present in software development. However, where am I more likely to encounter problems of more discrete maths nature (combinatorial, graph theory, sets, strings, ...) explicitly or more likely in disguise. Any pointers much appreciated (including possible open source projects that I could use for my further search for applications and also possibly contribute to).

• Creating an install drive - can not open output file autorun.inf

  I am trying to make an install/boot drive for a computer that has no operating system and no optical drive. I used the ISO from Ubuntu.com and the burner from pendrivelinux.com. When the program starts writing to the flash drive, there is an error displayed that says : "0 can not open output file E:\autorun.inf" But continues to write data. After it has finished, I remove the drive and insert to the other computer and turn it on, but it never finds a drive to boot from. What is causing this problem and how can I fix it ?

  It was a long time coming and I hope worth the wait.  If you have SQL Server 2008 R2 installed on the same box as ClearTrace and you download the latest ClearTrace build (36) you’ll be able to read SQL Server 2008 R2 traces.  I also fixed a bug handling very, very large SQL statements.  I encountered an INSERT statement that was 12MB in size.  It was storing XML in a database.  ClearTrace uses regular expressions to clean up the SQL it finds.  Running two dozen regular expressions over this 12MB string caused the application to crash.  In this build I’m just skipping any statement over 1MB.  I’ll do something a little nicer in the next build.   Due to some issues in my site many pages are visible as duplicate using : www.example.com/page.html?task=view but it's content is exactly same as www.example.com/page.html. One way is to use http 301 redirect from www.example.com/page.html?task=view to www.example.com/page.html when anybody fetches page with arguments. But links like www.example.com/page.html?task=view will remain visible to outside world. Another way is canonicalization which I don't want to use as it is difficult to insert the tag in Joomla CMS. I want to hide www.example.com/page.html?task=view from external world. Is it possible to change the url from www.example.com/page.html?task=view to www.example.com/page.html ? I mean if there is href link of www.example.com/page.html?task=view in my web page, it should be visible to external world as without any arguments. This is different from using 301 to convert externally accessed page : www.example.com/page.html?task=view to without using arguments in .htaccess.

• Replace Android on HP Slate 21?

  I want to replace Android with Ubuntu for Androids on my new HP Slate 21. As far as I known none has ever tried it yet and I would appreciate if Ask Ubuntu would help out here. Would I need to unlock & root first my machine? (In which case I will need a second machine plugged to my Slate...) Or can I just insert the bootable usb with the distribution I need and go from there as in a normal non-optical drive situation?   I've built a new system, and I want to take full advantage of UEFI and Ubuntu. So I install Ubuntu, and try to boot from it, and my BIOS (Asus EZ Mode / Advanced Mode) simply says "No bootable medium found. Insert Bootable Medium and press any key to try again." So I've reinstalled several times, without any failures, Ubuntu IS installed, and I've tried Ubuntu Boot Repair (link below) and nothing I do seems to work. • 3G dongle and memory card detection

  My questions is about 3G dongle (Huawei E1752) that I use for my internet on Ubuntu 12.04. The big issue is that ubuntu only recognise the dongle if I plug it in before booting up. But if somehow I loses connection (due to network being low) then the only way to use the 3G dongle again is to reboot my machine, which becomes a pain. I have the same issue with the memory card reader of my laptop whereby it only reads when I insert the card before booting up. My laptop is an Acer V3 -571g. At first I thought it was an issue that the model was quite new, but I have been updating my ubuntu for a while, and this issue has kept being the same

• Wordpress Multisite (Subfolders) - Google Analytics Tracking

  I have a Wordpress multisite subfolder instance that I would like to track via Google Analytics. I guess optimally this would be a plugin which I could track each site in two places The Main Tracking Code which totals all traffic from the Multisite instance The Individual Site tracking code to see how each site specifically is doing. I think this plugin would have worked for me if I had a subdomain multisite instance: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-analytics-multisite-async/installation/ I know I can manually place the dual tracking code (http://www.markinns.com/articles/full/adding_two_google_analytics_accounts_to_one_page) but that would involve editing a theme and I have multiple sites using TwentyEleven template. I don't think I can edit the theme and not have it wreak havoc on the rest of the sites using TwentyEleven. So has anyone done this? Is there a a technique I'm missing? Is there a plugin available to do this in Multisite Subfolder installations? Is there a way to manually insert GA codes into themes which are used by multiple sites? Any insight is appreciated.

• Help with intel Imac 2008 Audio not working

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I get no audio except if i insert speakers and set them as headphones. • Unable to boot from USB boot drive for AMD Athlon 64

  I am trying to install Ubuntu 13.04 ISO for AMD64 Athlon processor using USB drive (8GB). I did create a bootable USB using the USB installer from Win7 intel 32bit processor (followed steps from here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows). This USB is unable to boot on my AMD64 bit processor. The bios is able to detect the USB and once I change the boot order to USB and save exit from bios, I get a message saying "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS CONTINUE" and unable to proceed further. However earlier to this I have successfully installed Ubuntu 13.04 on to my laptop which has Intel 32 bit core i5 processor with the same procedure but my desktop which has AMD64 is failing. I also tried to create the USB installer on my desktop which has the AMD64 bit processor and tried booting which also resulted in the same error. (My desktop currently has Win XP) Please help as I have run out of options. thanks, Nagarjun

When I insert Chinese chars into mysql and select it out, that would be proper functioning.
