  • Can a client dictate whether or not HttpContext is created?

    We are getting a lot of hits from Googlebot and BingBot and it appears that none of these requests have an HttpContext. I originally thought that every http request will get a context which obviously is not the case so I'm trying to understand how does an HttpContext gets constructed, is it part of the negotiation between client and server?

    I asked yesterday how I could update only the first column that was empty. I got this of a answer: UPDATE `names` SET `name_1` = CASE WHEN `name_1` = '' then 'Jimmy' else `name_1` end, `name_2` = CASE WHEN `name_1` != '' and `name_2` = '' then 'Jimmy' else `name_2` end I tried it and it ended up updating every column with 'Jimmy' what's wrong with this? I can't find anything. It could possibly be the structure of the database. So here is what each name_* column is setup like: # Name Type Collation Attributes Null Default Extra 1 name_1 varchar(255) latin1_swedish_ci No None

  • Is undefined behavior worth it?

    Many bad things happened and continue to happen (or not, who knows, anything can happen) due to undefined behavior. I understand that this was introduced to leave some wiggle-room for compilers to optimize, and maybe also to make C++ easier to port to different platforms and architectures. However the problems caused by undefined behavior seem to be too large to be justified by these arguments. What are other arguments for undefined behavior? If there are none, why does undefined behavior still exist?

  • Why build Javascript functions as JQuery plugins?

    I've seen alot of JQuery implementations of existent JavaScript functions that merely wrap the JavaScript code in a JQuery wrapper and don't actually rely on any of JQuery's base for their operation. What are the benefits of using Javascript as a JQuery plugin? If there are none is there a speed loss to use a JQuery plugin that could have easily been implemented outside the wrapper just as well? In a normal grails app, there is a conf/Config.groovy file for that, but for a plugin there is none. Is there another way to achieve this ?     Does anyone have any experience and/or tips wrt using Xcode to build winlib binaries on the Mac? As part of a Windows - Mac OS X crossplatform port i'm looking at an initial winelib port of the app before reworking the windowing to use Cocoa. None of the winelib tutorials ive seen so far mention anything other than command line builds using make files and winegcc, so Im wondering if its worth bothering at all trying to get an Xcode project built linking against winelib.
