• Apache+PHP on Windows Server 2008

  I've installed Apache/2.2 and PHP/5.3 lots of times under Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003. The official *.msi installers work fine and configure everything. Now I need to install them into a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit box and I'm facing nothing but problems: There are no official 64 bit binaries for Apache and no binaries at all for PHP (official or third-party). It's alright, I'll do with good 32 bits, but it's kind of surprising. Official documentation is vague, generic and completely unaware of UAC or any recent Windows security feature. The PHP installer is unable to configure mod_php and the Apache installer is unable to configure... well, Apache. After three hours I've finally reached the point where I'm installing everything in the root folder and assigning full control access to all users in all files and directories and all I've got is a PHP-less Apache server that's able to serve static pages. So I guess it's time to stop and think. My question is: Has anyone installed an Apache+PHP production server under Windows Server 2008 in a serious, secure and reliable way and documented the whole process? Or should I just find a bundle like XAMPP and the like that requires no installation? === EDIT === I've installed Xampp Lite 1.7.3 and everything was working in 5 minutes. I'd still like to find some documentation about installing the original packages: XAMPP installs tons of stuff I don't need and offers no tool to enable and disable PHP extensions.

• Skype Connect as SIP/Trunk for Asterisk

  First off: I'm not sure if this should be on superuser or here. I have recently built a few Asterisk boxes with OpenVOX FXO/FXS ports little or no trouble. My current project is building an Asterisk box with SIP trunks. My current employer insisted on getting Skype Business/Skype connect for that purpose. After reviewing the Skype Connect plan, I agreed, because I thought it is going to be straightforward: Purchase G729 licences and setup SIP trunk/trunks. Boy was i wrong :) Here is the setup: The setup is for calling US numbers only via skype (we got skype US minute bundles in skype connect) AsteriskNOW - Asterisk 1.4 + asterisk-gui Trunks: SIP Trunk configured with Skype Connect - shows as registered Users: 2 test extensions. Both work fine when calling each other, voicemail etc works fine too The asterisk box is behind a Mikrotik router which i configured to forward all relevant ports: 5060-5090 UDP, 10000-20000 UDP. When trying out an extension outside of my LAN, it worked. I could make calls to the other extension. Outgoing rule: _NXXXXXXXXX Strip:0 Prepend:+1 Use skype trunk Inbound rule: Trunk: Skype Pattern: s Destination: Extension1 (6210) Here is the output of asterisk CLI (-rvvvvv) with outgoing calls: http://pastebin.com/eWVpL72e you can see the circuit-busy response when using trunk1 (skype) When calling my Skype Connect number from the outside, I get nothing in the logs. • Postfix aliases and duplicate e-mails, how to fix?

  I have aliases set up in postfix, such as the following: [email protected]: [email protected], [email protected] ... When an email is sent to [email protected], and any of the recipients in that alias is cc:ed which is quite common (ie: "Reply all"), the e-mail is delivered in duplicates. For instance, if an e-mail is sent to [email protected] and [email protected] is cc:ed, it'll get delivered twice. According to the Postfix FAQ, this is by design as Postfix sends e-mail in parallel without expanding the groups, which makes it faster than sendmail. Now that's all fine and dandy, but is it possible to configure Postfix to actually remove duplicate recipients before sending the e-mail? I've found a lot of posts from people all over the net that has the same problem, but I have yet to find an answer. If this is not possible to do in Postfix, is it possible to do it somewhere on the way? I've tried educating my users, but it's rather futile I'm afraid... I'm running postfix on Mac OS X Server 10.6, amavis is set as content_filter and dovecot is set as mailbox_command. I've tried setting up procmail as a content_filter for smtp delivery (as per the suggestion below), but I can't seem to get it right. For various reasons, I can't replace the standard OS X configuration, meaning postfix, amavis and dovecot stay put. I can however add to it if I wish.

• Error installing pygraphviz on OSX

  I'm trying to get the graph-models to work (from django-command extensions) on Snow Leopard. It requires pygraphviz, which I installed via macports. • Unable to activate Windows XP

  The latest round of Patch Tuesday updates left my Windows XP computer unbootable. ("Fatal System Error: The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly.") After much messing around with the recovery console, an XP CD's repair mode, and manually copying registry files around, I have a system that can boot again. However, I overwrote my OEM XP installation's activation information while trying to run a retail XP CD's setup, so it needs reactivation. Here's my problem: I cannot activate it at all. I log in, Windows tells me I have to activate to continue, I click Yes, and absolutely nothing happens: no windows, no response to keyboard or mouse, no response to Ctrl-Alt-Del, nothing. Safe mode works, but I can't activate in safe mode (EDIT: not even safe mode with networking). I read a trick online of pressing [Windows Key]+U to bring up the Microsoft Narrator, and that works, but clicking its Microsoft Web Site link does nothing. My last attempt to resolve this was to reinstall Windows off of the OEM CD. Now I have two parallel Windows installations, both on the same hard drive, one with all of my stuff and no way to activate it, one fully activated with no usable programs. Any ideas? Any way to activate in safe mode? Any way to copy activation information from my activated installation to my unactivated installation (since they're both on the same hard drive)?

• How to fix Browser Blue Screen of Death?

  I am running Windows XP SP3 and Firefox v3.6.2 and Internet Explorer and have an issue with Firefox and IE causing the Blue Screen of Death. If I run in Windows safe mode, it does not occur, but running normally, it seems my firefox profile is going bad and results in certain web pages causing the BSOD. IE is also getting BSOD on some pages. For example, presently, if I visit ebay.com in Firefox, it gets BSOD. It also fails when visiting http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en&source=iglk. IT removed my Firefox profile and that seemed to fix the issue for a while. However, now it has started occurring again. I turned off all firefox extensions and it still occurs. I'd like to fix my system so this does not occur. The IT folks don't seem to be able to solve this, so I am trying to fix it on my own. The BSOD is about something like (from memory) DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Why would safe mode avoid the issue and what does that tell us about the probable cause? I don't want to have to keep deleting my profile, so I'd like to find out the cause of the corruption.

• Mac OS X Client With Static DHCP Assignment Requests Wrong IP via Option 50

  I have a number of Mac (and a few Linux) laptops getting DHCP from a Force10 layer 3 switch, the only DHCP server on the subnet. There's a global dynamic pool, and for each full-time employee's laptop I have a single IP static pool set by MAC address. One and only one of the clients, running OS X 10.7.5, consistently fails to get a static assignment. The MAC address in the static pool definition has been carefully re-checked. • Help transferring Mac OS X fonts to Windows

  I have been sent a QuarkXPress document which contains a number of unusual fonts which were also sent to me. The fonts were in a folder named fonts and then it was all zipped up into a single archive containing the document and fonts folder. I believe this was done on a machine running Mac OS X. I have unzipped the archive, but all of the files in the fonts folder have no size - i.e. they are 0 bytes files. However there is also a _MACOSX folder which has a fonts subfolder. In here I can see all the font files (prefixed with .) and they all have a size, i.e. are not 0 bytes. Presumably these are the actual font files I need but I cannot figure out how to install them on Windows. I have tried renaming the files to have .ttf and .otf extensions and then installing them but that doesn't seem to work - I just get an "Invalid font file" message. Any other ideas?

• Ubuntu 10.04 Keyboard and Mouse Freezing Problem

  I had a partition setup with Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.04 dual booting. I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 by installing fresh from CD but leaving the previous /home folder as is. Things seemed to be working fine, but started finding that my mouse and keyboard were freezing. After a quick search on the internet, I found the following suggestions as shown here:- Ubuntu Forums Here the suggestion was to:- Edit /etc/default/grub, go to the line that begins like: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= Change it to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=off" After that, run this command: sudo update-grub and Reboot This seemed to have resolved the issue but after a couple of days I again find my mouse and keyboard freezing. I also find that my parallel port printer had also stopped working. I have saved the output of dmesg and my syslog. The first can be viewed here but the syslog had too many characters, so if someone can suggest an alternative to freetexthost, I can post it there. Moreover, if there is any other information that should be provided, do let me know. I do hope we can get to the bottom of this issue. Thank you in advance for any help that could be provided.

• Google Chrome not loading web pages correctly unless multiple refreshes

  Webpages in Google Chrome do not load correctly from time to time. I can't reproduce it, it just happens. Some times it happens when I load the browser other times it happens when I am just browsing. Just now I went to five different web sites which 3 out of 5 of them did not load correctly. I have attached a photo of how Super User loaded the first time I loaded it. If I refreshed it it will load correctly. Facebook is bad like this. Some times Facebook will load correctly but some of there back end scripting may not load so the page may not refresh automatically. Not sure what is going on. I have tried other browsers (Firefox and Internet Explorer) and they seem to be working correctly. Chrome seems to be acting up only on this computer. All my computers are running Windows 8 and I have removed Chrome completely off this computer and re-installed. I even disabled all extensions and cleared all the caches. I even tried running Chrome without being logged in. Not sure what else to do at this point. An example of superuser.com not loading correctly: When I refresh the problem will go away until it happens again. Sometimes it takes two or three refreshes in order for it to correctly load.

  We have 5 static IP addresses from our ISP: XXX.XXX.XXX.180 XXX.XXX.XXX.181 XXX.XXX.XXX.182 XXX.XXX.XXX.183 XXX.XXX.XXX.184 On our firewall box, the NIC that is connected to our cable modem, appears to have all 5 IP addresses set on it. A previous IT guy set this thing up, and I'm not sure exactly what he did. Are these virtual interfaces on this NIC or what? • Tomcat web application intermittent freeze

  I have a Grails web application (just a standard war file) deployed on a Ubuntu 10.10 server running on tomcat 6. My database is postgresql. The problem is that every so often (once or twice a day after inactivity) when I try to log into this web application it just freezes. I can navigate to the login page but when I try and login (first time the DB is hit, might be a clue..?) the application just freezes indefinitely, no 500 response code... the browser just waits and waits. I followed the instructions detailed here because the problem described sounded the same as mine. My GC logging showed no long running GC, all sub sec. When the application freezes a jmap heap output is... using parallel threads in the new generation. using thread-local object allocation. • Upgrade Debian to unstable on VirtualBox: udev problem

  I'm running Debian stable on VirtualBox on Windows Vista 64-bit Ultimate. It's been running great, but I needed some newer packages, so I put sid in my sources.list to upgrade to unstable (as I've done a dozen times on various Linux boxes over the years). When I upgraded, something went screwy and it asked me to run apt-get -f install to fix them, which gave this: (Reading database ... 77846 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace udev 0.125-7+lenny3 (using .../archives/udev_151-3_amd64.deb) ... Since release 150, udev requires that support for the CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED feature is disabled in the running kernel. Please upgrade your kernel before or while upgrading udev. AT YOUR OWN RISK, you can force the installation of this version of udev WHICH DOES NOT WORK WITH YOUR RUNNING KERNEL AND WILL BREAK YOUR SYSTEM AT THE NEXT REBOOT by creating the /etc/udev/kernel-upgrade file. • PHP 5.3.5 Windows installer missing php_ldap.dll

  I'm working with Windows Server 2008, Apache 2.2. I'm using php-5.3.5-Win32-VC6-x86.msi as the installer, using the threadsafe version. I've gone through the install process four or five times just to make sure that I'm not missing anything ridiculous, but I don't think I am. The problem is that the php_ldap.dll extension simply doesn't seem to exist. It's not present in the installer interface (where the user is asked to choose which extensions to install), and it definitely doesn't appear in the ext/ directory after install. I found a lot of mentions of this issue for 5.3.3, including links to download the extension individually. Those links no longer exist, of course, and besides: they were for 5.3.3. I'd really rather use an extension that belongs with PHP 5.3.5. Anyone else encounter this problem? Any ideas as to what's going wrong? Anyone seen acknowledgement by the PHP folks that the file is indeed missing, and that it's an oversight? It's quite a frustration because the server I'm building has no purpose if I don't have PHP LDAP support. Cheers all, and thanks in advance for your assistance.

• Python coding with VLC player (quite a basic query I expect)

  I'm fairly new to the whole coding realm so my knowledge is fairly limited, and I can't seem to find any basic tutorials on how to use scripts with VLC player. More specifically, the reason I'm asking here is because I stumbled across a post on this site about playing random clips from random videos on VLC player automatically. This is the forum post: Playback random section from multiple videos changing every 5 minutes My situation is similar to this lovely gentleman's was, though he clearly knows a lot more about coding than I do. In short, I'd like to copy this coding into a file of some sort and apply it to VLC player myself. Only I'm not sure what file type I'd have to save it as (I have Python by the way, and I tried saving it as a .py file but I didn't know if it was correct or where to go from there). Additionally, I'm not sure how to get VLC to "read" the script, so to speak - is there a specific location the file needs to be, and do I run the script from another program or through VLC? I'll reiterate that I'm relatively new to this, so if anybody would be so kind as to post a quick list of steps on how to save/place the file and use it with VLC player I really would appreciate it! P.S. I'm not computer illiterate, I'm fine with most programs and I'd understand if you just said things like "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\plugins" or "in VLC, select Tools Plugins and extensions", I just wouldn't catch on to anything about adding a line of coding that does something without being told exactly what to write! • 32 core (each physical core) 2.2 GhZ or 12 core (6 physical cores) 3.0GHZ?

  I am working on a multithreaded application (Forex trading app built on C#) and had the client upgrade from the 12 core 3.0GHZ machine (Intel) to a 32 core 2.2 Ghz machine (AMD). The PassMark benchmark results were significantly higher when using multicores doing Integer, Floating and other calculations while for a single core calculation it was a bit slower than the pack (others that were being compared to with similar config as the 12 core one). Oh it also comes with 64 GB RAM (4 times as the other one) and a much faster SSD. So after configuring and running the application on that machine, not only did it not perform as well, it was significantly slower. We're talking about 30seconds - 1 minute slower on an app that usually completes processing within 5-20 secs. The application uses MAX DEGREE of PARALLELISM (TPL) which I've tried setting to number of cores and also half of that. I've also tried running single threaded and without setting any limits in parallel threading. While it may be the hardware has some issues, I am wondering if the CPU processing speed is the issue. I can overclock to 3.0 GHZ. But is that even a good idea? • VoIP setup for one external PSTN line

  I'm completely new to VoIP and the likes, and I'm trying to find information about what could be the best setup for this. I need 4 (maybe more in the future, but maximum 5 or 6) wireless extensions, connected to 1 PSTN line, and maybe 2 in the future. I've been trying to gather information about the gear needed but everything I find seems too much over-the-top (and extremely expensive). The main problem is that the physical place we are on doesn't have possibilities of having a decent internet connection, so using a external VoIP "virtual PBX" is not an option. Thing is, even if small, phone is critical to this organization. I currently have an analog DECT/GAP PBX which does what I need, however the PBX is very bad and the call quality is horrible, and that's why I want to change it. The requirements would be: 4 wireless terminals (routing cable is not an option), all of them ringing on incoming PSTN calls. Ability to do internal calls (4 separate offices) and ability to pass calls between terminals. The 4 terminals should be able to access the external PSTN line without dialing any special codes. Very important: terminals should be able to issue commands on the PSTN line to the external operator in the form *nn*nnnnnnnn# . Don't know wether this could face to be a problem, but I've had problems with analog PBX which would take any * as a PBX command and wouldn't allow terminals to send it to the external lines. Not so important, but would be nice to have: call waiting music Could anyone recommend such a setup? I need to be able to do this on a EXTREMELY LIMITED budget (that is: I don't have a limit, but all should get as much to zero as possible). I have enough spare powerful computers and a 300mbps wireless network which works just fine, so that's not to include in the budget. Don't really know if this is the best place to ask, but it's the most StackExchange-related site I've found to this subject.

  Hi, I'm running an instance built off ami-595a0a1c. I am trying to install the sqlite3 (or sqlite) gem and it's failing with the below error: $ sudo gem install sqlite3 Building native extensions. • High latency issue for web service call from amazon aws ec2 to local server

  We have a legacy web application that is running in our data center on premises located in Houston. We have a developed a new .net 4 based web application in order to provide new features to customers. The new web application is hosted in amazon aws ec2 environment (N. Virginia region us-east-1b zone). In order to get seamlessly integrate with the legacy application the new web application makes web service calls to retrieve data. We are seeing an unusually high latency time in the order of 5+ seconds for these web service calls. The exact same web service call returns in less than a second on our local PCs (which makes sense given physical proximity to the actual server). The weird part is that we have developers in California who also have the same milliseconds response time. We are testing the web service response using third party tools such as SoapUI, Google Chrome extensions such as Advanced REST Client, Postman REST Client, etc. As if this wasnt weird enough, we have noticed the same low latency from certain other ec2 instances while testing which are in the same region and availability zone as well. If we experienced the high latency consistently from all the ec2 instances I could understand. But there is something else going on. Comparing the various stats and results between the low latency and high latency ec2 servers do not show any significant differences: ping (constant 40ms), tracert, winmtr, etc. We have instances that are in the VPC as well. So I tried both the public and private IP address of the web service host server and that didnt make a difference either for the above results. We need to resolve this latency issue as this is causing the resulting web pages to load very slowly (almost 15+ seconds which is simply unacceptable). The ec2 instances have Windows Server Datacenter 64 bit. Let me know if there is any other infor I can provide to help diagnose this.

  I have three Windows XP guests running on a recently upgraded 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 system. Occasionally (on the order of once every few days), one of the guests will become non-responsive and the kvm process on the host which is running that guest will start consuming 100% CPU. It will continue to do so until it is killed. When restarted, it will be fine for a while, and then the issue repeats. • Apache /server-status/ gives a 404 not found

  I am trying to solve a problem where Apache stats aren't displaying correctly in Munin. I've ran through quite a bit of checks and tests regarding Munin setup, but I think my issue is related to Apache, but my skill set there is lacking. first, system info: monitored server CentOS 5.3 kernel 2.6.18-128.1.1.el5 Apache/2.2.3 "server-status" directive in httpd.conf (i've cross-compared this with another system that i did a successful parallel install of Munin on, correctly showing Apache stats, and the directive below is the same for both) ExtendedStatus On <Location /server-status> SetHandler server-status Order deny,allow Deny from all Allow from 127.0.0.1 </Location> ran lynx http://localhost/server-status got HTTP/1.1 404 taking a look at Apache access_log: 127.0.0.1 - - [13/Oct/2010:07:00:47 -0700] "GET /server-status HTTP/1.0" 404 11237 "-" "Lynx/2.8.5rel.1 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5" mod_status is also loaded: % grep "mod_status" /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf LoadModule status_module modules/mod_status.so iptables is turned off also i did notice that the ownership status on httpd.conf on this system is root.root.. whereas the system that is displaying correctly is apache.www -- not certain that this matters?? its got to be permission issue, but i'm not certain where the permissions are messed up. any thoughts on why the test of server-status is giving me a 404?

• MySQL problem with many concurrent connections

  Hi, here's a sixcore with 32 GB RAM. I've installed MySQL 5.1.47 (backport). Config is nearly standard, except max_connections, which is set to 2000. On the other hand there is PHP5.3/FastCGI on nginx. There is a very simple php application which should be served. NGINX can handle thousands of request parallel on this machine. This application accesses MySQL via mysqli. When using non-persistent connections in mysqli there is a problem when reaching 100 concurrent connections. [error] 14074#0: *296 FastCGI sent in stderr: "PHP Warning: mysqli::mysqli(): [2002] Resource temporarily unavailable (trying to connect via unix:///tmp/mysqld.sock) in /var/www/libs/db.php on line 7 I've no idea to solve this. Connecting via tcp to mysql is terrible slow. The interesting thing is, when using persistent connections (add 'p:' to hostname in mysqli) the first 5000-10000 thousand requests fail with the same error as above until max connections (from webserver, set to 1500) is reached. After the first requests MySQL keeps it 1500 open connections and all is fine, so that I can make my 1500 concurrent requests. Huh? Is it possible, that this is a problem with PHP FastCGI?
