  I wish to dual boot Windows XP and Windows 7. I wish to have my documents available from both OSes. Do I create a single partition and it just works? 2 partitions, one for each OS? 3 partitions, one for each OS and one for the "my documents"? [EDIT] I used 3 partitions, one for each partition and one for docs which is mapped as a separate drive. Works perfectly. The only think you need to do is hide the other OS partition, ie for Windows XP, hide the Windows 7 partition. You do this from partition manager.

• Why unchecked jQuery UI radio button's label appears "checked" after refresh in FF and IE?

  I've got 2 radio buttons with labels: button A is checked by default in HTML (checked="checked"). They're then processed with jQuery UI Radio Button. When I check button B and refresh the page, B's label is displayed as checked (it has CSS ui-state-active class). And A's label is displayed as unchecked, even though it's A button that is actually checked. It happens in Firefox (3) and IE (8).   What does 'this' keyword refer to when used in gloabl object? Let's say for instance we have: var SomeGlobalObject = { rendered: true, show: function() { /* I should use 'SomeGlobalObject.rendered' below, otherwise it won't work when called from event scope. But it works when called from timer scope!! • mini linux to use dd and access HD and/or USB

  I was thinking about something. I want to install a 7gb partition and store 2 compress disk image and install linux to it. I want it to be light. What i would like to do is hide the grub loader (or anything) and if i want to reformat my PC press a certain key on startup. Which will then load the linux OS and then i can use dd to restore the partition i want I plan to use windows XP and windows 7 as my main OS and virtualize anything else i need (vista, dummy XP for testing, multiple linux distos, etc). Bonus points if you can tell me how to hide the partition in windows so XP and 7 cant touch it

I tried following every step in the instructions located here: - http://github.com/gabriel/gh-unit/blob/master/README.md And step 2 of these instructions confused me: - In the Target 'Tests' Info window, General tab: Add a linked library, under Mac OS X 10.5 SDK section, select GHUnit.framework Add a linked library, select your project. Add a direct dependency, and select your project. (This will cause your application or framework to build before the test target.) How am I supposed to add my project to the linked library list when all it accepts it .dylib, .framework and .o files. I'm confused! Thanks for any help that is received.

• Multiple Schedule/Task Views (devs, customer, etc) in MS Project (or other)

  Is there a way to configure multiple views/filters in MS Project for the same set of tasks? I want to have a view that is configured for customer's only, for example. So, it would have large milestone tasks only, and hide all of the details that are there for the benefit of the team members. If MS Project doesn't do this, is there any project management software that does? A free/open source version would be preferable. Edit: Apparently, "filter" was the word I needed in my Google searches. I found how to mark a task as a Milestone and use the pre-made Milestone filter. However, that still doesn't hide non-Milestone tasks the way I want it to. I haven't figured out how to make a true custom filter.

• Data Transfer Objects VS Domain/ActiveRecord Entities in the View in RoR

  I'm coming from a .NET background, where it is a practice to not bind domain/entity models directly to the view in not-so-basic CRUD-ish applications where the view does not directly project entity fields as-is. I'm wondering what's the practice in RoR, where the default persistence mechanism is ActiveRecord. I would assert that presentation-related info should not be leaked to the entities, not sure though if this is how real RoR heads would do it. If DTOs/model per view is the approach, how will you do it in Rails? Your thoughts? EDIT: Some examples: - A view shows a list of invoices, with the number of unique items in one column. - A list of credit card accounts, where possibly fraudulent transactions were executed. For that, the UI needs to show this row in red. For both scenarios, The lists don't show all of the fields of the entities, just a few to show in the list (like invoice #, transaction date, name of the account, the amount of the transaction) For the invoice example, The invoice entity doesn't have a field "No. of line items" mapped on it. The database has not been denormalized for perf reasons and it will be computed during query time using aggregate functions. For the credit card accounts example, surely the card transaction entity doesn't have a "Show-in-red" or "IsFraudulent" invariant. Yes it may be a business rule, but for this example, that is a presentation concern, so I would like to keep it out of my domain model.

  Hi all, On my activity, im getting some big data from web, and while getting this data i want to show the user a ProgressDialog with spinning wheel. That i can do only with putting this code into a thread, right ? the problem is that after im getting this data i need to insert it into my tableLayout as TableRows and it seems impossible to access the TableLayout from the thread. What can i do to show this progress dialog and to be able access the table layout from the thread ?? Is there any event that happens on the end of the thread ? • BroadcastReceiver not triggered by Alarm

  I am trying to set up an alarm that will run in the background and trigger (eventually) a save event. At the moment I simply have this code attached to a button. Press the button and the alarm should start leaving Toast messages behind as an indication that it is functioning. At the moment everything runs except the onReceive in the BroadcastReceiver is never triggered. • How to estimate size of data to transfer when using DbCommand.ExecuteXXX?

  I want to show the user detailed progress information when performing potentially lengthy database operations. Specifically, when inserting/updating data that may be on the order of hundreds of KB or MB. Currently, I'm using in-memory DataTables and DataRows which are then synced with the database via TableAdapter.Update calls. This works fine and dandy, but the single call leaves little opportunity to glean any kind of progress info to show to the user. I have no idea how much data is passing through the network to the remote DB or its progress. Basically, all I know is when Update returns and it is assumed complete (barring any errors or exceptions). But this means all I can show is 0% and then a pause and then 100%. I can count the number of rows, even going so far to cound how many are actually Modified or Added, and I could even maybe calculate per DataRow its estimated size based on the datatype of each column, using sizeof for value types like int and checking length for things like strings or byte arrays. With that, I could probably determine, before updating, an estimated total transfer size, but I'm still stuck without any progress info once Update is called on the TableAdapter. Am I stuck just using an indeterminate progress bar or mouse waiting cursor? Would I need to radically change our data access layer to be able to hook into this kind of information? Even if I can't get it down to the precise KB transferred (like a web browser file download progress bar), could I at least know when each DataRow/DataTable finishes or something? How do you best show this kind of progress info using ADO.NET?

• RESTful design, how to name pages outside CRUD et al?

  Hi all, I'm working on a site that has quite a few pages that fall outside my limited understanding of RESTful design, which is essentially: Create, Read, Update, Delete, Show, List Here's the question: what is a good system for labeling actions/routes when a page doesn't neatly fall into CRUD/show/list? Some of my pages have info about multiple tables at once. I am building a site that gives some customers a 'home base' after they log on. It does NOT give them any information about themselves so it shouldn't be, for example, /customers/show/1. It does have information about companies, but there are other pages on the site that do that differently. What do you do when you have these situations? This 'home-base' is shown to customers and it mainly has info about companies (but not uniquely so). Second case: I have a table called 'Matchings' in between customers and companies. These matchings are accessed in completely different ways on different parts of the site (different layouts, different CSS sheets, different types of users accessing them, etc. They can't ALL be matchings/show. What's the best way to label the others? Thanks very much. =)

• Notepad Automatically Launches Upon Boot Up of my Windows 7 64-Bit Desktop PC

  Around 12 months ago, When my Windows 7 PC boots up, Notepad started to appear automatically on the desktop (as a duplicate ie one on top of the other), both displaying the same writing inside, and the name of the Notepad was: desktop-Notepad. [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787 I cant remember the exact details as its been so long now but a friend told me, this was due to a "hidden attribute" belonging to notepad becoming "unhidden"and therefore showing itself on the desktop at startup. He showed me a series of steps to either hide the attribute again or to delete it ( telling me that upon restart of my computer it would be recreated/regenerated.) I did indeed follow his guidance however after trying to hide it or delete it (it was never recreated after restart which supposedly it should have done) One notepad still is autolaunched with the text as shown above everytime I startup my PC. As I found this forum I thought I might try again for a solution to prevent notepad from launching. Thankyou

  I'm trying to use an FtpWebRequest to get the size of a file on a company FTP. Yet whenever I try to get the response an exception is thrown. • Home link on the menu does not highlight

  My menu shows the active links when clicked on it except for the home link (http://www.obsia.com). It is never highlighted. I tried playing around but I can't seem to figure it out.   Our company publishes our software product's documentation using a custom-built content management system using a dynamic URL namespace like this: http://ourproduct.com/documentation/version/pageid Where "version" is the version number to which the documentation applies, and "pageid" is a unique string which identifies that page in our back-end content management system. For example, if content (e.g. a page about configuration best practices) is unchanged from version 3.0 and 4.0 of our product, it'd be reachable by two different URLs: http://ourproduct.com/documentation/3.0/configuration-best-practices http://ourproduct.com/documentation/4.0/configuration-best-practices This URL scheme allows us to scope Google search results to see only documentaiton for a particular product version, like this: configuration site:ourproduct.com/documentation/4.0 But when the user is searching across all versions, we don't want Google to arbitrarily choose one of the URLs to show in results. Instead, we always want the latest version to show up. Hence our planned use of rel=canonical so we can proscriptively tell Google which URL we want to show up if multiple versions are being searched. (Users who do oddball things like searching 2 versions but not all of them are a corner case, so we don't care which version(s) show up in that case-- the primary use-cases we care about is searching one version or searching all versions) But what will happen to scoped searches if we do this? If my rel=canonical URL points to version 4.0, but my search is scoped to 3.0, will Google return a result? Even if you don't know the answer offhand, do you know a site which uses rel=canonical to redirect across folders in a URL namespace. If so, I could run a few Google searches and figure out the answer.

  I'm trying to create a standardized show/hide element system, like so: <div class="opener popup_1">Click Me</div> <div class="popup popup_1">I'm usually hidden</div> Clicking on the div with the opener class should show() the div with the popup class. I don't know how many opener/popup combinations I'm going to have on any given page, I don't know where on any given page the opener and the popup are going to be displayed, and I don't know how many popups a given opener should call show() for. Both the opener and the popup have to be able to have more classes than just what's used by jQuery. What I'd like to do is something like this: $(".opener").click(function() { var openerTarget = $(this).attr("class").filter(function() { return this.class.match(/^popup_([a-zA-Z0-9-_\+]*) ?$/); }); $(".popup." + openerTarget).show(); The idea is that when you click on an opener, it filters out "popup_whatever" from opener's classes and stores that as openerTarget. Then anything with class=popup and openerTarget will be shown.

Its users are running an antivirus, but there's always the risk that something slips past and the way I see it, once the system is infected the antivirus is useless because the malware can hide itself from the AV. I think the best way to go (besides clean reinstall of the OS) would be to have an antivirus running at a boot time from a CD or a USB key. That way, the malware is just lying on the disk and cannot do any of its hide-and-seek stuff (provided the AV comes from an uninfected PC and all that). So, I'm looking for something that: Runs at boot time (off USB key or CD-ROM) Does not touch or require the local OS Discovers malware fairly well (like, Avast, AVG, Norton, whatever -- I think the're all the same anyway) Can handle Windows filesystems (FAT 32, NTFS, WinFS ;-) ) Comes from some sort of trusted source (no Windows Antivirus 2009) I know that this is no silver bullet (nothing is, really*), but I do have a feeling it's more likely to help than doing the scan* within the infected system.

  So, I have an RSS feed with variations of each item. What I want to do is just get entries that contain a specific section of text. • Selecting and inserting text at cursor location in textfield with JS/jQuery

  Hello. I have developed a system in PHP which processes #hashtags like on Twitter. Now I'm trying to build a system that will suggest tags as I type. When a user starts writing a tag, a drop-down list should appear beneath the textarea with other tags that begin with the same string. Right now, I have it working where if a user types the hash key (#) the list will show up with the most popular #hashtags. When a tag is clicked, it is inserted at the end of the text in the textarea. I need the tag to be inserted at the cursor location instead. Here's my code; it operates on a textarea with class "facebook_status_text" and a div with class "fbssts_floating_suggestions" that contains an unordered list of links. I did some tests executing the code of my "show" method from a QMetaObject::invokeMethod stuff using Qt::QueuedConnection but nothing works properly. I know I could use Jambi... but I know that it could be done natively too and that is what I want to do :) Any ideas on this? Thanks in advance! Ernesto

• Webpage shared with like button not showing in users timeline

  I have a single pages and a one page that lists all of the single pages. On the overview page you can like each single page with their url. And of corse you can do the same when you are viewing a single page. My issue is very strange. Most of the pages that I would like show up on my timeline. But then there are some that don't show after I click like, not even if I click on "Post to Facebook". This page will not show in a users timeline if liked ore "Post'ed to Facebook". http://www.inspiredbyiceland.com/inspiration/iceland-airwaves/valdimar/ But this one will http://www.inspiredbyiceland.com/inspiration/iceland-airwaves/snorri-helgason/ But these pages are excls the same, they use the same template so the code should not be any different, and in fact I cant see any differents between these pages that could be causing this kind of problem. Most of the content on the site works fine so far as I know. There is an Facebook application defined on the page. I'm not sure if that is related to this problem.

• Why do compiled Haskell libraries see invalid static FFI storage?

  I am using GHC 6.12.1, in Ubuntu 10.04 When I try to use the FFI syntax for static storage, only modules running in interpreted mode (ie GHCI) work properly. Compiled modules have invalid pointers, and do not work. I'd like to know whether anybody can reproduce the problem, whether this an error in my code or GHC, and (if the latter) whether it's a known issue.
