  • Developing multiple user interfaces for an application

    I want to develop an application which has a graphical user interface that could be developed by using different widget toolkits. For example I want to use Qt, GTK+ or even ncurses as a building block for my user interface for the same application. Moreover users could choose which GUI implementation will be used during the next startup of the application without recompiling it first. I wonder what are possible design strategies and design patterns used in the implementation of this design?

  • Twitter Bootstrap Navbar blocking svg viewBox

    I have a navbar fixed to the bottom and I have page that has a title and a giant svg (created by d3.js). I would like the svg to take up the entire screen (whatever is left over), but it always seems to have some part appear behind the bottom nav bar. I've tried: 1) using viewBox to auto-resize, setting the parent div and the svg to be block elements 2) adding padding-bottom to the body element But the svg still appears behind the navbar on wide screen monitors.

    I have a situation where a block of code should be executed only if two locker objects are free. I was hoping there would be something like: lock(a,b) { // this scope is in critical region } However, there seems to be nothing like that. So does it mean the only way for doing this is: lock(a) { lock(b) { // this scope is in critical region } } Will this even work as expected? Although the code compiles, but I am not sure whether it would achieve what I am expecting it to.

How would it be any different from throwing in a label in the UI and populating the errors on the server side? Also, If I am using Validation Application Block, what approaches do you suggest for client side validation if I don't want to duplicate rules on server and client side?

  • How to prevent the other threads from accessing a method when one thread is accessing a method?

    I want to search for a string in 10 files and write the matching lines to a single file. I wrote the matching lines from each file to 10 output files(o/p file1,o/p file2...) and then copied those to a single file using 10 threads. But the output single file has mixed output(one line from o/p file1,another line from o/p file 2 etc...) because its accessed simultaneously by many threads. If I wait for all threads to complete and then write the single file it will be much slower. I want the output file to be written by one thread at a time. What should i do?   • Versioning code in two separate projects concurently with subverison

    I have a need to create a library of Object Oriented PHP code that will see much reuse and aspires to be highly flexible and modular. Because of its independent nature I would like it to exist as its own SVN project. I would like to be able to create a new web project, save it in SVN as its own separate project, and include within it the library project code as well. During this process, while coding the web application code and making commits, I may need to add a class to the library. I would like to be able to do so and commit those changes back to the libraries project code. In light of all this I could manage the code in two ways Commit the changes to the library back to a branch of its original base project code and make the branch name relevant to the web project I was using it with Commit the changes to the library back to the original code, growing it in size regardless of any specific references that might exist. I have two questions How can I include this library project code into a new project yet not break the subversion functionality, i.e. allowing me to make changes to each project individually? How I can keep the code synchronized? If I choose the first method of managing the library code I may want to grab changes from another branch and pull it in for use in another.

  • Java, Massive message processing with queue manager (trading)

    Hello, I would like to design a simple application (without j2ee and jms) that can process massive amount of messages (like in trading systems) I have created a service that can receive messages and place them in a queue to so that the system won't stuck when overloaded. Then I created a service (QueueService) that wraps the queue and has a pop method that pops out a message from the queue and if there is no messages returns null, this method is marked as "synchronized" for the next step. I have created a class that knows how process the message (MessageHandler) and another class that can "listen" for messages in a new thread (MessageListener). The thread has a "while(true)" and all the time tries to pop a message. If a message was returned, the thread calls the MessageHandler class and when it's done, he will ask for another message. Now, I have configured the application to open 10 MessageListener to allow multi message processing. I have now 10 threads that all time are in a loop. Is that a good design?? Can anyone reference me to some books or sites how to handle such scenario?? Thanks, Ronny

  • How do I preserve folds in VIM when cutting and pasting?

    In vim, you can create a fold with zf, so if is %, you can neatly fold a delimited block. is there a way to select some text in visual mode and automatically fold that? I've noticed that if I select a closed fold and use dd to delete it, then go somewhere else and use P to paste it, the fold will disappear and the fold will be expanded. I want to cut the folded stuff and paste it and have it paste with the folds still intact and closed.

What resources would you suggest for getting up-to-date on the current state of java technologies? How about learning how to approach DRY (don't repeat yourself) without the use of metaprogramming? Or how to approach various scenarios where a ruby developer is used to passing in a function (proc/lambda/block) as an argument (callbacks, etc)?

The syntax is much cleaner for passing context around. However, I haven't seen any information on the performance implications of using blocks in this manner.     Hello, I get the warning "Format not a string literal and no format arguments" on the NSLog call in the following block: (void) alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView clickedButtonAtIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex { NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", buttonIndex]); } I have read in another post here that this error message indicates an insecure use of NSLog.     Is ADO.NET and ASP.NET a part of Base Class Library? The information given in wikipedia looks ambiguous to me. In the figure, it is shown as a separate block. What is the difference between Base Class Library(BCL) and Framework Class Library(FCL)? Is FCL as a part of .NET Framework? If so why is FCL not shown in the figure as part of .NET framework? Got confused!!

    I am running a store on Magento. For some reason the "Recently Viewed", "Related Items" and "Featured Items" blocks have all disappeared from my site. They where definitely there yesterday so I'm not sure what's happened to them. Featured Products is an extension I use and show on the home page using: {{block type="featuredproducts/listing" template="inchoo/block_featured_products_main.phtml"}} Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
