• CodeIgniter Production and Developpement server on the same domain. (no subdomain)

  Hi, I googled this many times but now I have to ask it here. I want to make a workflow for a website for Developpement/Production. My constraint is that I use Facebook Connect (Facebook Graph now) so I need to have the dev and prod on the same domain and server. (to be able to log in and test the features) I thought I will edit the CodeIgniter Index.php to redirect if I have a specific user agent (I can edit the one of my firefox) You think it's a good Idea or you have a better one ? And now comes the eternal question : how can I deploy this the easy way ? should I use Capistrano or Phing ? or simply a script with SVN ? Please help me, I'm totally new to this Deployment thing. I used to work directly in production for my little websites or on other domains. but now it's not possible anymore.

• Security in HTTP Adapters

  I just started using IBM Worklight 5.0. I have been going through the HTTP Adapters recently and have successfully been able to Run as "Invoke Worklight Procedure". But I am stuck with the Adapter execution in the App. To my knowledge I think this is some kind of security issue where the client request to Worklight Server is unauthorized (401). Can any tell me or refer to some blog/website where there are steps to overcome this problem? I already got some of the websites but at this moment I am really confused on how to use them.

  Hi, I am trying to migrate to MVC from conventional n tier applications. I am very much used to creating websites in the regular manner. But i find it difficult to adapt to MVC environemnt. Suppose there is a table products. I jus want to display the table data in a web page. I hav ROR installed and working. I have created a project by giving rails_apps rails demo The command prompt created some folders inside a folder called demo. Though i have read one or two tutorials i am not exactly clear about the working or the cycle of MVC. Can anyone please give some basic idea. I have managed to skim through the initial pages of Agile Web Development Through Rails. Also, please give me some usefull links on the net. That would really help me.

• C++: FFMPEG and SDL resources

  I'm looking for resources (preferably books, but websites are fine too) for using FFMPEG and/or SDL with C++. Stuff I'd like to be able to do (eventually): Decode and play videos in realtime to a QT widget (the QT part isn't a problem) Overlay text and images on the video (in realtime) Loop video Cross-fade from one video to another (in realtime) Some kind of DVD functionality LIVE sources? (i.e. webcam, stream, etc.) So far I've looked at (and consider helpful) the following resources: FFMPEG and SDL Tutorial by Dranger (extremely helpful) StackOverflow: ffmpeg C API documentation/tutorial (not a duplicate, btw) Sample code bundled with FFMPEG libraries (I'll try and update this list with anything helpful below) Thanks for any help... Also: Operating System is Windows (but maybe one day cross-platform) Also 2: Resources using alternatives are welcome too... i.e. DirectShow, VFW, etc.

• Mobile web development - how to?

  Hello, I would like to start developing mobile-friendly versions of websites for my clients, however, I am baffled with options and google search wasn't very helpful - there is so many options and opinions, I've been reading for few days now and still have no idea how to start. What's your opinion/experience about/with it? My main points: mobile devices supported (in order of relevance): iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G, Blackberry, Droid powered mobiles, other phone friendly numbers, phone friendly emails contact/register form working on each (or the most possible) devices listed jQTouch seems superb (simple, quick, working), I'm not sure about it on blackberry/droid and I don't want to create 6 web versions for each mobile device - Makes even less sense if you consider, that I'm starting with small web (6-10 pages, 1 contact form, 3 register forms) to play with. • How do I use multiple settings file in Django with multiple sites on one server?

  I have an ec2 instance running Ubuntu 14.04 and I want to host two sites from it. On my first site I have two settings file, production_settings.py and settings.py (for local development). I import the local settings into the production settings and override any settings with the production settings file. Since my production settings file is not the default settings.py name, I have to create an environment variable DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE='site1.production_settings' However because of this whenever I try to start my second site it says No module named site1.production_settings I am assuming that this is due to me setting the environment variable. Another problem is that I won't be able to use different settings file for different sites. How do I start use two different settings file for two different websites?

• How are clientside security vulnerabilities generally discovered?

  I mean in operating systems or their applications. The only way I can think of is examine binaries for the use of dangerous functions like strcpy(), and then try to exploit those. Though with compiler improvements like Visual Studio's /GS switch this possibility should mostly be a thing of the past. Or am I mistaken? What other ways do people use to find vulnerabilities? Just load your target in a debugger, then send unexpected input and see what happens? This seems like a long and tedious process. Could anyone recommend some good books or websites on this subject? • Would you work for an "Adult" Company?

  Although I try to distance myself from web-oriented work nowadays (unless I need the money) I've received a number of emails from clients wishing for me to help design and develop online solutions for adult websites. Hell, when I was 17 I was asked to help design an adult website that I would not legally be able to view. After talking to a few Software Engineers and Flash Developers I have heard that there is a lot of interesting work in the adult industry for those who like to work with new technologies. Have any of you worked for a company dealing with adult/pornographic content? Did you enjoy it? If you haven't would you ever consider it? More than anything I find it interesting to see how others would view the offer, whether you would be afraid to list it on a CV/Resume, how interesting the work would be, how you think future employees would see you and whether you believe that they would judge you for working in a dirty industry.

• What are some ways to identify a logged in user on the web?

  Here is the scenario: There are 5 websites (different domain names) that need to share a session. I am using a bit of code on each site which returns a "blank.gif" image and at the same time sets the session (syncing it up to the current session). Each of the sites calls a session-img from each of the other sites. Also, all sites have access to the same database (where the session is stored). This works great on FF and Chrome, but not on IE (or Safari PC)... I need to come up with an alternative method to keep a session active? The app is a small custom CMS, so really only 2-3 people will be using it. I can probably identify user logins by IP and then continue to check for the IP accross all sites... Is there something more granular such as a computer uuid that i can check for?

• Apache2 on Ubuntu Server w/ CGI, FastCGI, mod_php

  I've looked at various websites on configuring Apache with cgi and can't get mod_fcgid to work. It works fine using mod_php5, but I wanted to compare performance using cgi and fastcgi. I tried methods using FGCIWrapper among various other techniques and the only one that didn't result in an unlogged 403 or download of the file was using "Action application/x-httpd-php /usr/bin/php-cgi" When trying to configure mod_fcgid the file normally just started a download of an unprocessed file. I used wget to check headers and type was "application/x-httpd-php" At one point I was able to get to the page, but it resulted in a 403, which was listed in access.log, but not error.log (I was told it should be in there too) I tried to get it working on a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS and 10.10 and had the same results on both, so I'm not doing something correctly in terms of configuration. I tried virtualmin and could only get mod_php to work. The page just prompted a download when selecting cgi or fcgi from the control panel.

  I am using tinymce. It works great. But i want the feature in tinymce where user can upload the images from local box/or from public websites. I am using tomcat ,jsps and core java.I found couple of free third party libraries like ibrowser ,imanager,jbimages etc but all of them using PHP which looks like does not fit in my existing project (i dont know PHP but i tried to integrate one of these in my existing project they don't work and gives some weird error.) Really i am not sure how to have this feature in tinymce(if some other editor support it with jsps i can try that)?

• How to prevent a specific directory from running Php, Html, and Javascript languages?

  Hi, Let's say i have an image uploader script, i want to prevent the upload directory from executing Php or even html by only showing it as plain text, i've seen this trick in many websites but i don't know how they do it. Briefly, if i upload evil.php to that directory, and i try to access it i will only see a plain text source , No html or php is executed. ( but i still want the images to appear normally ofcourse) I know i can do like that by header("content-type:text/plain"); but that's will not be helpful, because what i want, is to set the content-type:text/plain automatically by the server for every thing outputed from the upload directory except images. Note: i'm running php 5.3.2/Cent OS and the latest cPanel. Thanks

• How to transfer visitors to the servers closes to them and where to place the servers?

  I am focusing on providing fast page refreshes for my visitors and I wonder where is the smartest spot to place my servers on? I understand that the best would be to place a server in every country or even city, but that is of course not doable with my economy. I am thinking of maybe setting up three servers, one in the middle of USA (Kansas?), one in Italy and one in Sweden. What do you think about that? I don't care about Africa since they haven't even got computers so I won't get traffic from there anyway. China, North Korea etc are probably just visiting chinese websites, they barely know english anway... The next problem is how do I redirect a visitor from Finland to the Swedish server? I don't want the visitor from Finland to be using the USA server or vice versa.

• Image ransfer using hessian protocol from client's folder to tomcat server

  My goal is to upload a image(.jpg or .png)from client's folder to tomcat6 server through hessian protocol. And do image processing using opencv on server, then return the image back to client. Question1. Is the following transfering steps correct? put a test.jpg image on client's folder -- convert the test.jpg in client.java(main.java) class to BufferedImage -- convert the BufferedImage to mat or Iplimage in server for using openCV.I have set a hello world sample from Simple Messaging Example using Hessian , and searched from Hessian with large binary data and other websites, but still dont know how to use it!   I am new to web services. I am dealing with testing APIs in my project. In the previous version the company used GET and POST methods but not PUT and DELETE methods.   This is a general question, or perhaps a request for pointers to other open source projects to look at: I'm wondering how people merge an anonymous user's session data into the authenticated user data when a user logs in. For example, someone is browsing around your websites saving various items as favourites. He's not logged in, so they're saved to an anonymous user's data. Then he logs in, and we need to merge all that data into their (possibly existing) user data. Is this done different ways in an ad-hoc fashion for different applications? Or are there some best practices or other projects people can direct me to?

  Is there a copy of the file saved to the ipad/ipod when using progressive http download (apple segmented) that the user could potentially copy off the device? meaning, is this scenario considered 'safe' from a content protection pov: 1. user comes to websites with movies behind paywall 2. user selects a movie to watch online (progressively downloaded or 'pseudo-streamed') 3. segments are downloaded seamlessly by html5 video tag as part of .m3u8 4. movie plays/ends. is there any full copy of this movie on the device that can be transferred off? anyone know apple's stance on this?

• how can I deliver remote content via web service?

  We have multiple websites under different domains that need to receive our banner ads. We have a server app, in PHP, that returns the HTML for a randomly-generated banner ad. Out of concern for the client side, I don't want to use an iframe nor do I want to include the jquery library because of the weight - I also do not want to duplicate code across all the domains. Any other way to do this? Maybe there is a way to do this with mod rewrite or a web service? Anyone solve a similar problem? Thanks

  Hi I am coding a web-crawler which will crawl the websites and selectively parse different sections of a web site. I am a .Net developer so the choice was obvious that I did it in .Net but the speed was very slow which included downloading and parsing of HTMLPages Then I tried to just download the contents first using .Net and then same domains using python but the python was very impressive in downloading data. I have achieved downloading using python but the later part is not that easy to code in python, which obviously i don't want to do. The same batch of domain which took 100 seconds in Python was taking 20 minutes in .Net based crawler I tried http://www.eqlit.com/ to download and in took 8 seconds in Python and same was taking 100 Seconds in .Net crawler Does anyone anyone have any idea why this is slow in .Net but fast in python?

• Ability to Choose From Multiple SQLite DBs for Iphone Application

  I am working on the design and implementation of an iPhone application ( a newbie, but I am getting the hang of it) where a person can download specific contact information about teachers based on their majors. The information is currently on different edu websites. And I have exported the information into SQLite databases. Is it possible to develop the application that when it is first initiated, it can give the user the option of which particular SQLite database they want for their application? Or if not, would it be better to merge all the DBs into one DB, and allow the user the option of downloading specific information from the SQLite db. I see that the db's can be downloaded into an app, but have yet to find a solution where there can be an option to download from different SQLite dbs. Thanks!

I've recently started learning web programming. I really like SVG + CSS, and was wondering -- why do people not design entire webpages in SVG? Context SVG provides beautiful primitive: quadratic + cubic bezier curves; lines + filling -- all as vector graphics SVG provides text SVG provides affine transformations Questions Are there examples of people designing entire websites as a giant SVG file? If not, what the limitations? Are there performance hits when using SVG primitives as opposed to divs/tables?

  I am looking for an open source search engine plugin written in php for my website(eCommerce). Before anybody answer that I have a doubt regarding the search engine. Usually search engine crawl web pages, create indexes and then use them while looking for contents. But will the same model work for eCommerce websites? Yeah, it can crawl products pages, index them but don't you think it would be better if it crawls the database directly and index the products stored in the database? And when a user search for any product, it will simply give us the rows of the table which matches the user query? May be what I am asking is a stupid question but I am new to web development, so kindly help me to understand the concept. I have looked at a search engine called Sphider but didn't get what all I have to do to make it work with an eCommerce website.

  Hi all. I've some data that i'd like to publish just on one website, ie. it should not be reused on other websites. The data is a set of numbers that change every day, our journalists work to get hard gather it. Is there any way to hide, crypt, etc. the data in a way that it cannot be reused by others? But to show it in a graph in the same time? I found the ASCII to HEX tool that could be used for (http://utenti.multimania.it/ascii2hex/). I wonder if you can suggest other ways.   Hello, my name is Tabetha and I have a question... I am a web designer, but I always find that while designing the layout and coding the design I come up with great ideas for websites. I would like to know where I need to start in order to learn back-end programming not only for the knowledge, but also for the challenge of it. I have searched online but can't seem to find the information I am looking for. If anyone can give me a simple, straight-forward "this is what language you need to learn" answer, or perhaps guide me in the right direction I would appreciate it ten-fold. I am a complete noob when it comes to this, so even the most basic information is probably a pearl of wisdom for me. :)
