• Should I uniform different API calls to a single format before caching?

  The problem is that I am recreating the social media widget/icons on http://about.me/bluedaniel (thats me). Anyhow there can be up to 6 or 7 different API calls on the page and obviously I am caching them, at the moment with Memcached. The question is, as they arrive in various formats and sizes (fb-json, linkedin-xml, wordpress-rss etc), should I universally format/convert them before storing it in the cache. At present I have recreated the html widget and then stored that, but I worry about saving huge blocks of html in the cache as it doesn't seem that smart.

• Popular open source projects using Zend Framework

  Hello, I am trying to find any open source project based on Zend Framework. Something well written and as popular as Wordpress or Drupal to see actual benefits of ZF as well as possibly use it as an example. The only 'showcase' I managed to find is http://framework.zend.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=14134. But this list looks confusing as for the 'official' PHP framework. The same is about ZF statistics by numbers (http://framework.zend.com/about/numbers) - 10 million downloads against 400 actual projects which is less than 500 examples in the user guide... Also Yahoo chose Symfony for their bookmarks service not ZF... Am I missing something? Thank you!

• Server resolve issues not consistent

  I am having some weird issues with my web server. It has a public ip address and is set-up on an openVZ virtual machine. Accessing in to the site works fine every time but when trying to access out from the server I can't always connect out. Sometimes I can connect out and resolve addresses, sometimes I can't. The issue is visible in both ssh when trying to do a wget command on Google; sometimes it works and I get the index.html page and sometimes I get nothing. The issue is more visible in wordpress where you can't view themes but after a few presses of the try again button you can then view them. I have searched google and found nothing about this issue. Does anyone here have any ideas what could be causing this strange behaviour? Ports 80 and 2222 are open for web and ssh. • How to override browser default download behavior for files?

  Lots of times we have to download files from the net. In IE we get to see the ugly download progress bar. In firefox we get to see a pop-up window opening etc. However, I have never seen this being over ridden in any manner. Until recently on the site *thesixtyone DOT com* If we get to download a song free and click on the ok link to start the download we get a pop up to select location in the default style of windows.   I need to summarize a data frame by some variables, ignoring the others. This is sometimes referred to as collapsing. E.g. if I have a dataframe like this: Widget Type Energy egg 1 20 egg 2 30 jap 3 50 jap 1 60 Then collapsing by Widget, with Energy the dependent variable, Energy~Widget, would yield Widget Energy egg 25 jap 55 In Excel the closest functionality might be "Pivot tables" and I've worked out how to do it in python (http://alexholcombe.wordpress.com/2009/01/26/summarizing-data-by-combinations-of-variables-with-python/), and here's an example with R using doBy library to do something very related (http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg02643.html), but is there an easy way to do the above? And even better is there anything built into the ggplot2 library to create plots that collapse across some variables?

I am trying to select a checkbox, but the only way that I can identify it is by the text following it.   Hello, I am searching for a rails-based CMS that provide rich text editing feature (e.g. I need an interface very similar to that of Wordpress where you can easily style up your static pages and upload pictures without knowing any css or html) AND easy to be dropped into an existing rails application. Camtose, RadiantCMS and few other ones did not seem to offer the rich interface I was looking for. RefineryCMS had conflict with my existing user authentication and I did not really find a solution to it. I am just wondering if there are any rails based cms that can meet my needs.   Hi, I'm dealing with a compromised website, in which hackers injected an htaccess instruction to redirect traffic. I can easily locate .htaccess files that contain the forwarding hack, BUT in cases where the directory already contained an htaccess file, they appended the dangerous instructions, so I cannot just deleted any htaccess file or could harm the site by letting formerly pw-protected directories wide open, or urlrewrite instructions (WordPress) be deleted, etc. I could not find the way to locate files that only contain those 4 lines of redirect hack, could you shed some light ? So far, using find . -type f -exec grep -q targetpiratedomain {} \; -exec echo rm {} \; Thanks !

• customizing Django look and feel in Python

  I am learning Django and got it to work with wsgi. I'm following the tutorial here: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.1/intro/tutorial01/ My question is: how can I customize the look and feel of Django? Is there a repository of templates that "look good", kind of like there are for Wordpress, that I can start from? I find the tutorial counterintuitive in that it goes immediately toward customizing the admin page of Django, rather than the main pages visible to users of the site. Is there an example of a "typical" Django site, with a decent template, that I can look at and built on/modify? The polls application is again not very representative since it's so specialized. any references on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I'm wondering how far back I should go back and where I should start as far as becoming familiar with coding before the iPhone SDK course on Lynda.com isn't something that makes my eyes glaze over. My experience: I taught myself html from the html for dummies book maybe 10 years ago, I've taken a dreamweaver class and built a few sites with it, and I've customized a self hosted Wordpress blog by playing with the php code. • How do I post a link to the feed of a page via the Graph API *as* the page?

  I'm working on a plugin for a Wordpress blog that posts a link to every article published to a Facebook Page associated with the blog. I'm using the Graph API and I have authenticated myself, for the time being, via OAuth. I can successfully post a message to the page using curl via a POST request to https://graph.facebook.com/{mypageid}/feed` with e.g. message = "This is a test" and it published the message. The problem is that the message is "from" my user account. I'm an admin on this test page, and when I go to Facebook and post an update from the web, the link comes "from" my page. Is there a way to authenticate myself as a page? Or is there an alternate way to POST to a page feed that doesn't end up being interpreted as a comment from a user?   I have a slight problem with .htaccess redirect. I have a dynamic site with 2 levels of variables - content="type -(alpha)" and ID="number" but this is very not seo friendly what I really would like to create is a rewrite rule that generates a "friendly" url for serach engines & users alike. Very much like WordPress does. Each ID is already unique (obviously) and on creation is creating a unique "permalink" field so for example ID=1 has a "permalink field" as "2009/10/27/page title" and ID=100 would be "2010/10/27 page title". I would like folder/wall.php?content=type&ID=number to redirect to folder/permalink.php/html/htm (don't mind a non dynamic extension) Any clues? - this is not right (I know) but it also "breaks" my css file RewriteEngine On RewriteRule wall/content/(.*)/ID/(.*)/ wall.php?content=$1&ID=$2 RewriteRule wall/content/(.*)/ID/(.*) wall.php?content=$1&ID=$2

• android webview returns blank page when load dynamic html page

However, I always get a blank page. load function works fine because if I try to load a static page, it works. • Nivo Slider thumbnails not displaying properly in IE

  Making a new site but something is happening to it in IE. I've purchased the Nivo Slider for wordpress plugin and it working fine however it's not displaying the thumbnails under the banner in IE. This is what it looks like in firefox This is what it looks like in IE Because this is a plugin (and the website isn't giving me any support after 2 days) I dont really have the source CSS but I was hoping you could take a look at it with come developer tools to see why it might not be showing in IE? • How Do I change the list-syle in page/sidebar?

  Using wordpress. I would like to the change the style of my lists in the main page as well as the sidebar. Right now I have a little circle with an arrow in it. I'd rather have it be just a black circle in the main page and I'd like there to be nothing before the text in the sidebar. I've looked everywhere for the code but can't find it. I figured it would be in the sidebar1.php or sidebar2.php files but I haven't been able to find anything.

• Lightweight open source CMS - current situation

  Hello, It happened that I need to pick up PHP based open source CMS. I did a small research and found many candidates. CMS made simple seems to be right choice, but I am not sure what's the current state, I know it was widely used time ago. I need it to be fully compliant with web standarts, lightweight (especially interface). It needs to be as simple as possible - basically just style and page content editing (news, maybe some image gallery) is enough. Sure content and style have to be separated from each other since content will be edited by non-programmer. One of the main goals is SEO so I'd like it to have friendly URLs. I think CMSes like Joomla, Drupal and Wordpress are too big for this project. Are there any recommendations ?

  Hi guys, I am trying to install PEAR in my WAMP-server. The go-pear.bat is running as intended, but when it comes to changing the directories, it all goes wrong. I have followed this guide: http://phphints.wordpress.com/2008/08/26/installing-pear-package-manager-on-wamp/ The 9th line of configuration, Public Web Files directory, will not change upon command and instead says Input file error, no file extension in C:\documents I am running XP SP3. Is there anyone else who had experienced this slight issue? Thanks!

• How do I modify a string printed by a script?

  I'm having problems with wordpress mishandling accented characters, or maybe the problem is with some plugin. Whichever the case I need to "translate" some strings, removing accents which i do with: $value = strtr($value, $trans); I really need to change this string which renders the user's location but it's printed with a script so I have no idea how to do it: <script language="javascript"> document.write('' + geoip_city() +''); </script> Is there a way to assign it's result to a php value beforehand or something? Maybe removing the accents with a script. I really need to modify it, how could I manage to do it? Thanks

• URL Rewriting from a subdomain to main domain!

  Hello. I am developing a pretty large website for a client, and its about 90% complete. It is currently hosted on a subdomain like so: now: v2.websitehere.com when complete: www.websitehere.com My problem is that SO much of this site is linked to the temporary subdomain. The newsletter service, multiple google apis, etc. I also have multiple blogs installed that would be hard to move over. Literally, I have over 20 blogs hosted on the subdomain. I also have other PHP scripts that utilize SQL databases. So, what I am getting at is that a migration would be very difficult: time consuming, frustrating, and not something I want to do. I am looking for a a good solution...similar to Wordpress's URL rewriting. Is there something I can do with .htaccess file? Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated.
